Got a box from Scrap PDX today.
A little vintage wedding doll and a bag of random slides.
Thinking about livestreaming the scanning of the slides. I want witnesses if there's pictures of crimes in there.

Whole Wheat Orzo Pasta Salad
This is great as a hot side dish or main dish with a decent amount of protein that the garbanzo beans, cheese and orzo pasta bring. Throw in a cup of sunflower seeds if you like to really bring on the protein. It's great served with a green salad or fruit. Give it a whirl...
Orzo Pasta Salad
4 c. water
1/2 c. whole wheat orzo pasta
2 T. margarine
1 - 4 oz. jar capers, drained
1 - 6.5 oz. jar marinated artichoke hearts, drained, chopped
1 t. garlic powder
dash salt/pepper
dash chili flakes
1 med. lemon, grate rind and juice
1/4 c. Parmesan cheese, fine grated
1 - 15.5 oz. can garbanzo beans, drained
Bring water to a boil, add orzo pasta. Cook uncovered until tender - 8 to 10 min., drain. While the orzo is still hot, add the margarine, capers, artichokes, garlic powder, salt, pepper, chili flakes, lemon, Parmesan cheese, and garbanzo beans. Toss together well and enjoy!
When I'm not working out new ways with garbanzo beans, I'm sewing cotton pocket server aprons for my online shop - www.etsy.com/shop/topdrawerthreads .
Or I'm putting the finishing touches on handmade knit hats worked by me from upcycled recycled thrifted yarns from my favorite creative reuse source SCRAP PDX. This knit work is available through my online shop - www.etsy.com/shop/topdraweryarns .
My daughter's have an online shop - www.etsy.com/shop/yesdesigns - where they design and sew cotton pockets knickers for fun time wearing.
My older daughter has an online shop - www.etsy.com/shop/wildwovenwomen - where she works upcycled recycled thrifted yarns into eye catching striped cozy warm knitted afghans.

"Cockroach From Sponge Show" - Medium: Recycled Materials
I did this at Scrap PDX during a queer craft night! I had so much fun doing this! I made the sculpture by memory of the image so not everything is exact.

COLLAGE ON VIEW
Scrapbook
Joe Rudko at PDX Contemporary Art in Portland, Oregon, USA through 2 March 2024. Over the last decade, Joe Rudko has dissected found photography to create drawings, collages, and sculptures. As he's worked, piles of scraps have accumulated from thousands of different images—some found at shops, purchased on eBay, or received from friends and family. Each of these works follow a framework and logic built on chance, intuition, and resourcefulness. Read More

Life's A Drag and I Love It
It's been nearly 3 months of heavy hitting the streets trying to do this burlesque/drag thing. Of putting rhinestones on stuff, of listening to songs over and over again until I'm sick of them, of having panic attacks while I put on my makeup. But I see that that putting the effort in thing... it's the basic thing to move towards what you want. Just a little more work each and every day.
I want that in every area of my life. I'm slowly seeing it. I see it in queer collective. I see it in showing up for the farm every weekend. I see it in building these relationships with radical organizations. Each connection is leading to another necessary to make not only my dreams but the dreams of a fuck ton of people come true.
This next week I want to:
work out finances break down
follow up with Dustin about the job at the coffee shop.
apply to a couple gyms
apply to unions
figure out audition schedule for the week
meet with PDX for Palestine for the first general meeting
drive
buy a new moisturizer
figure out way to make payment on credit card
figure out next meeting with RM
spend the day cleaning out the office so marina can help me design it (put posters and signs to the side for the wall)
being a pink little cutie at Luv is Blind PDX speed dating
Make wig stands out of cardboard
make "the machine" out of cardboard and tubes/bottle nipples from REUSE or SCRAP
Make "brown" costume for the albino
find thigh high black stripper boots
touch base with Melissa re: lion number for Burly Q;AF (Big Cat as the song???)
spending the day with justice setting up the pole in their home gym area
Check in tomorrow to see what I actually get done.

More places for my blog challenge!
I’ve only lived in the Portland area for a little over a year, and, like most crafters, I make friends with other crafters in part to find out the best (cheapest) places to find supplies. Several of my friends said that I must go to SCRAP PDX.
It took a while for me to make the time to head on out there, but I finally made the journey. For those of you who haven’t seen it, I’m not sure if the pictures in this blog will do the store justice, but the pics will certainly give you an idea of what wonders there are to behold.
As I walked through the store, my first thoughts included how impressed I felt at the level of organization. Although you may never have seen such an arrangement of random stuff, the fact that everything is arranged, labeled, separated into individual boxes, and often color-coded blows your mind away.
At the same time, the sheer amount of everything, and the peculiar items for sale, can feel overwhelming, hence the heaven and hell in the title. Fortunately, the variety of items everywhere you look keeps you distracted, and it heightens your curiosity concerning what you’re going to find next.
Like many things in Portland, SCRAP PDX promotes the idea of minimizing waste, and their items for sale emphasize that idea to the extreme. These items for sale are often donated from individuals and businesses.
While the majority of the items in the store are legitimate craft and art supplies, the rest of the items are somewhere between what most would call junk and what others would find typically at a flea market or garage sale.
With prices unbelievably low for the majority of items, this store is definitely the place for mixed-media artists to gather supplies and inspiration. Teachers also would make out like bandits at this store, especially on their limited budgets.
I feel that some, not all, of the fabric and notions were slightly overpriced for a secondhand store. I admit, I am a penny-pincher, so my view on prices is no doubt jaded.
Despite some overpriced fabric, SCRAP PDX seems like an excellent place for a multitude of customers. Similarly, if you just need a store to walk through and look around, your eyes will never want for more in a store like this.
SCRAP PDX, located at 1736 SW Alder Street in Portland, is a nonprofit organization that was founded in 1999. They offer educational classes, including classes for children. Promoting greener living through reusing everything and anything, according to their site, “SCRAP diverted 140 tons of usable materials from the waste stream” in 2016. Find out more by visiting their website: www.scrappdx.org
Heaven and Hell for the OCD: SCRAP PDX More places for my blog challenge! I’ve only lived in the Portland area for a little over a year, and, like most crafters, I make friends with other crafters in part to find out the best (cheapest) places to find supplies.

Got my ballot for Oregon and I will admit, beyond the role of Governor, I don’t know much about the candidates running for other offices. However, I noticed a Progressive running for US Senator, Chris Henry, and while there’s not a chance in all hell of him ever winning (like holy shit are his numbers bad), boy do I wish he would.
Man is a post-roads kinda guy which is sooo my type (politically, no offense, Chris). He advocates for quote: “De-construct the fossil fuel infrastructure of asphalt streets in neighborhoods to re-connect communities...turn streets into farms, community gardens, parks, food forests, arboretums, etc.”
Man after my own heart (and vote), I swear.

Smokey Goat Gouda Eggs
Say it fast or slow, this is an omelette elevated. The smokey goat gouda makes this a Sunday morning brunch favorite. Chop the tomatoes and cheese the night before so you are ready to go with the next mornings welcome breakfast offering...
margarine
4 eggs, whisked
dash black pepper
dash garlic powder
1 c. cherry tomatoes, halved
1/4 c. smokey goat gouda, cut into pea sized pieces
In an omelette pan, melt margarine coating entire bottom of pan. Add the seasonings to the eggs, stir well. Gently pour the eggs into the fry pan. As the eggs firm up, onto half the omelette position the tomatoes and cheese. With a rubber spatula, release the sans tomato side of the omelette folding it over the filling. Gently release the egg from the pan and slide it onto a waiting dinner plate - enjoy.
When I'm not road testing intriguing cheeses, I'm sewing cotton pocket wrap aprons for my online shop - www.etsy.com/shop/topdrawerthreads .
Or, I'm putting the finishing touches on hand knit stocking caps worked by me from upcycled recycled yarns thrifted from my favorite creative reuse source (SCRAP PDX) for my other online shop - www.etsy.com/shop/topdraweryarns .
My daughter's have an online shop - www.etsy.com/shop/yesdesigns - where they design and sew cotton pocket knickers for fun and frolic wear.
My older daughter has an online shop - www.etsy.com/shop/wildwovenwomen - where she works upcycled recycled yarns into soft, supple rainbow striped afghans and scarves.

Here you see Earthworm Jimothy in his natural habitat, stealing from the office first aid kit. Jimothy hordes hand sanitizer, despite having no hands. Don’t be like Jimothy.
He was made out of a thrifted Furby, faux fur from Scrap PDX, and one legwarmer from an IKEA children’s Halloween costume.

David Best wanted to honor a friend who died when he created a Temple out of scrap wood for Burning Man. My favorite was the “Temple of Joy” from 2002. Yes, I carry a ladder with me, even to camp in the desert, and made this photo from the top of my ladder. Ok so this is a tutorial on how to make a box style loom out of a cardboard box and some brads (aka paper fasteners) which you can usually get wherever they sell school/office supplies for pretty cheap. I know I've gotten some for around 3 dollars or less. It also requires an exacto knife and a ruler but I think you could probs get away with scissors if you're careful. You'll also need a pen or a pencil for marking out stuff and to poke holes, and you will need some masking tape.
here's the cutting templates for doing it by hand

Remembering my first project with recycled material and stuff I had at home. It was for a show facilitated by @1111accgallery501c3 a few years ago, it was a fun and challenging experience. Back in the #sfv #la #818 I didn't think I would be doing something similar again. This year I am working on some recycled repurposed materials provided by @scrappdx where my challenge is to create a robot or monster. I think I am doing good so far.... #artist #pnw #pdx #recycledart #art #scraps #imagination #positivevibes #creativity
