Here is a brief description of those who returned home:
Tumblr media
▪️ Nikolay Shvets was accused by the Belarusian authorities of blowing up a Russian A-50 long-range radar detection aircraft at the airfield in Machulishchi.
▪️ Valeriy Matyushenko was detained by the occupiers in the Donetsk region in July 2017. For some time, he was held in the Donetsk torture chamber "Izolyatsia", and later he was sentenced to 10 years in prison. In August last year, the Ombudsman wrote that Matyushenko's health condition was critical and the man needed to be released immediately.
▪️ UGCC priests Ivan Levitsky and Bohdan Geleta were detained by the occupation authorities in Berdiansk in November 2022. After the full-scale invasion, they remained in the temporarily occupied territory, where they continued to hold services for the faithful. The Russians accused the priests of illegal possession of weapons.
▪️ Olena Pekh is an art historian and researcher at the Horlivka Art Museum. She has been in Russian captivity since August 2018. In March 2020, she was sentenced to 13 years in prison.
- Don't cry, my daughter. I'm already in Ukraine, such nice guys met me and gave me a bouquet of flowers.

Other versions of the photo (assumed to be Ukrainian because of the shirt on the torso "все буде Україна"/ "everything will be [,] Ukraine" and the account that posted it) are gruesome so I don't advise looking it up you are ready to see a dismembered body.
I've seen Kara-Murza's statement to remove sanctions from 'ordinary Russians'. To be clear, Russians also fundraise and work in factories that create weapons and drones for their army. It's not just Putin's war. It wouldn't have lasted this long if it was just Putin's war. I don't know how much info those political prisoners had in prison, but I'd advise them to catch up.

Nothing to see here, just:
(1) russians complaining that ukrainians don't donate to the families of convicts who voluntarely joined the army to earn money by killing ukrainians;
(2) calling a dude who served 24 years in maximum-security penal colony for a murder and organised crime a "political prisoner"
(3) blaming SBU for.... doing prisoner exchange according to international law? To which the prisoner consented, as accodring to international law??? For prioritising ukrainians POWs over russian thugs?
Y'all lecture us every day on how we're too hard on russians, since you know them oh so better than ukrainians do. Yet you know nothing about how prison culture - "ponyatiya" - are ingrained in their culture. You have no idea how imperialistic is their mindset, how they expect ukrainians to always put them before ourselves.
Like, for real, this is not the only russian that blames Ukraine for the death of this dude because "SBU should have known Wagner would have executed him". So, you think we should have left our soldiers in their hands? All this sacrifice to save the precious life of a russian murderer - WHO VOLOUNTEERED TO COME HERE TO KILL US? And they dare to get offended at us when we didn't follow these ridiculous demands?
And this is not a bot, nor a putin supporter. This is a so-called anti-war opposition. This is the best they can offer.

[ 📹📸 A Russian military transport plane, was in the process of flying 65 Ukrainian POWs to a location in the Bolgorod oblast to facilitate a prisoner exchange when it was shot out of the sky by Ukrainian missile, killing everyone on board.]

UKRAINIAN MISSILE SHOOTS DOWN RUSSIAN MILITARY TRANSPORT PLANE FILLED WITH ITS OWN POWs
74 are dead, including 65 Ukrainian POWs, after a Russian military transport plane being used to facilitate a prisoner exchange scheduled for Wednesday was downed somewhere over the Bolgorod region of the Russian Federation, near the border with Ukraine. The prisoner exchange has since been called off by Russian authorities.
In an article published by Ukrainian Pravda, a Ukrainian news periodical, a source is cited as saying that the aircraft was downed by Ukrainian forces near the border with Russia's Bolgorod region, however they have since retracted the source, and are now claiming they cannot confirm the news. The Russian authorities have since confirmed that the plane was in fact downed by a Ukrainian missile, likely using either an American Patriot air defense missile or a German-made Iris-T.
In a statement released by the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, the Russian authorities say that the crash took place at approximately 11:15am (local time), when a Russian Il-76 military transport plane filled with Ukrainian POWs was downed near the Bolgorod region.
“At about 11:00 Moscow time, an Il-76 plane crashed during a scheduled flight in the Belgorod region. On board there were 65 captured Ukrainian Armed Forces servicemen, <including> six crew members and three accompanying persons,” the statement says.
In its statement, the Russian Defense Ministry slammed the missile strike, declaring the "Kiev regime committed a terrorist act" in downing the military transport.
According to Russian sources, the aircraft had been en route from the Chkalovsky military airbase in Moscow, and was shot down by air defenses stationed somewhere in the Kharkov oblast in the northeast of Ukraine, killing everyone on board.
The Russian and Ukrainian authorities had agreed to conduct a prisoner exchange later on Wednesday, with the exchange set to take place near the Russian village of Kolotilovka, also in the Bolgorod oblast, close to the border with Ukraine.
A second military transport aircraft carrying some 80 Ukrainian POWs was turned around before reaching the danger area, and was successfully diverted to another airbase after news of the downing reached Russian authorities.
The Ukrainian officials have so far refused to comment on the crash, remaining mum as news of the event spreads, although Andrey Yusov, a spokesperson for the Main Directorate of Intelligence (GUR) confirmed a prisoner exchange had been scheduled for Wednesday, adding that the exchange has since been cancelled.

Ruslan Mesutov was illegally sentenced by the occupiers to 18 years in prison on charges of alleged "terrorism".
Even though the 58-year-old man's health condition has deteriorated, he is not being provided with appropriate medical care. Ruslan Mesutov is forced to go on hunger strike, because, contrary to his religious beliefs, he is fed food with pork in it. The prison where he is being held is called a "criterion" because of its harshness. There are four people in a damp cell, who are taken for a walk on the roof of the prison once a day.
Life before detention: Ruslan Ametovich Mesutov was born in Uzbekistan, in 1988 he returned to Crimea and got a job as a turner at a factory in Alushta, where he was allocated a land plot.
Later, he brought his parents and sisters to the Crimea, married Elzara Hodzhenova, and had two sons. Ruslan was a member of the Crimean Tatar People's Movement. In the village of Malyi Mayak (Buyuk-Lambat), Ruslan organized the Muslim community "Avdet", which is part of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Crimea, and became one of the founders of the religious community of Alushta. He was a security guard at the mosque, engaged in social activities, organized Muslim holidays, helped with funeral issues, took care of paperwork, and held prayers. Representatives of the occupation authorities detained the man on June 10, 2019, along with other Crimean Tatars. The occupation investigators charged Mesutov with violation of Part 1 of Article 205.5 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Organization of a terrorist organization"), which provides for imprisonment for a term of 15 to 20 years. And even Part 1 of Articles 30 and 278 of the Russian Criminal Code ("Preparation for the violent seizure of power by an organized group by prior conspiracy"), which provides for up to ten years in prison. In May 2020, Ruslan was transferred to the territory of the Russian Federation. An illegal sentence was handed down on August 16, 2021, and the man was sentenced to 18 years in a strict regime colony with a 1-year and 6-month restriction on his freedom after release. Mesutov was arrested two weeks before the court hearing, which was to consider the claim of the religious community of Alushta regarding the transfer of the city mosque by the occupation administration to the illegal formation of the "Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Crimea". The main real reason for Ruslan Mesutov's detention is his religious and public activities, identity, and support for his people. The 58-year-old man is being held in a Russian prison in the Lipetsk region. According to his lawyer, Siyar Panich, his client's health condition has deteriorated and he is not being provided with medical care. Since November 2022, Ruslan has had difficulties with nutrition, as pork has been introduced into the main diet. According to his religious beliefs, Ruslan Mesutov does not eat such food. The Muslims serving their sentences in this institution wrote an appeal to the administration, but the problem has not yet been resolved.
The political prisoner's Quran was also taken away from him. "The Quran in Arabic was taken away from Mesutov to be examined by a specialist, who said it was a 'normal Quran' and not an 'extremist' one. Since then, since November, he hasn't been able to get it back, and it depresses him quite a bit," said lawyer Volodymyr Bilenko.

Oleksandr Demenko joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine in his second year at the Faculty of Management at the Zaporizhzhia Institute of Economics and Information Technologies. From 2019 to 2021, he served in the Air Force. In 2021, he signed a contract and joined the 9th Operational Regiment of the National Guard of Ukraine (later to become the 15th Brigade of the Kara-Dag Offensive Guard). During the defence of Mariupol, Oleksandr was injured and spent more than a year and a half in Russian captivity – from May 17, 2022, to January 31, 2024.
Life in captivity
Interview conducted by Kostyantyn Grechany K.G.: How were you treated in captivity?  O.D.: We were held by the Russians, who called themselves “DPR” (Donetsk People’s Republic). Basically, they fed us, but the attitude was, how can I tell you… There was moral pressure, and physical pressure, regular interrogations, beatings. International humanitarian organisations were not allowed to visit us.   The beatings were so-called “regular”, i.e. for non-compliance with the rules of detention. Someone fell asleep at the wrong time, someone did something in the house contrary to their routine – they regularly beat them for that. We were also beaten for not knowing the anthem of the Russian Federation, for not learning Soviet poems and songs that they forced us to learn (we were always walking around in the organised pattern listening to Soviet songs). Of course, there were beatings during interrogations.  There was also an operational department where prisoners were selectively taken in order to tell them who did not follow their “rules of detention”. They asked them to inform on each other. K.G.: Were representatives of the “KGB of the DPR” present during these conversations? O.D.: No, there were only colony employees there. Actually, it went on like that until January 23, 2024, when we were transferred to Taganrog [a city of regional subordination in the Russian Federation – ed]. There we were beaten several times a day. There, the treatment was worse than brutal. The food was terrible, and very little food was given, the conditions were terrible. All the clothes were ragged, there was no heating (and I need to remind you, it was January), no hygiene, no medical care. While in Horlivka, we could somehow adapt and survive, but in Taganrog, it was a complete nightmare. K.G.: How long did you stay in Taganrog? O.D.: I stayed in Taganrog for a week, during which I learned all the nuances of being in Russian captivity. When we arrived, we were beaten so badly that we couldn’t even walk or sit. I can’t even imagine what it was like for the guys who spent all their time in captivity there. They told me such things as torture with a stun gun and a tapik. It’s a device like a dynamo from a field phone with a high current. You are connected to it and turned around so that a current passes through your body. It’s worse than a stun gun.
