I had to had these thoughts so so do you<3
Harry Hook/Ivy de Vil
In Dead Beauty AU or variations thereoff, cos if Uma's here, Harry channels how unhinged he is in different direction (less fun one for this case) (and also I ship Huma)
But I already have the AU so why not ✨Mutual self-destruction at it's finest
As in, they had to be stoped from playing Russian Roulete with actual loaded gun. Multiple times.
Poison's fine enoughyou can always drag them to the Mims or Ginny, Bonny, or Marya, even Faciliers.
Gun, not so fun.
Oh, and actually ending up together, that'd be one of the worst cases scenarios
And joyrides in Cruella's car
Yes, it is terrible for everyone around.
No no, no one can stop them.
Well, Cruella could, but it goes about like this:
Ivy: „Auntie, I'm taking the car!“
Cruella: „Fine, just remember-“
Ivy: „I know, I know. If I have to choose between hiting a wall or a pedestrian, always hit the pedestrian. It damages the car less.“
Cruella: „That's my girl.“
Especially the Tremaines are having a horrible time ✨
Also, they're both actors
Too much alike
Always playing up how crazy they are, how flirty. Holding up their reputation and their name
Acting almost all the time
You know that kind of thing, the "only around eachother, they can take off the mask and be who they truly are"?
Okay, now forget it.
They're not taking off that mask, but- when it slips for just a heartbeat, when one of them freezes, expresionless, and just looks at nothing?
The other doesn't say a word, only pours another glass of alcohol or passes another cigarette.
They're actors, and they know it.
Also another fun game than russian roulette:
At a bar, whoever manages to pick up someone first gets free drinks for the rest of the night from the other.
This game can be over very quickly, especially if either of them decides that free alcohol is more important than any pretence of class.
The record is about ninety seconds.
Sometimes, Diego plays also, and he insists they do not cheat
Wanna know how they cheat?
Ivy ✨ accidentally ✨ collides into a lonely looking "gentleman" and spills white wine all over herself and a bit on him. She starts apologising, all "Oh NO, what a clutz I am-"
... it's white wine cos she ain't cleaning red
I'm keeping Alala's as Hooks mother so Harry cheats with siren song. It's not superpowerful, imagine if he was ugly, it'd keep a girl out of his League talking to him for five minutes instead of minute and half, but this is Harry HOOK and also he looks like that.
The lowest he went was when he went for a pirate and just straight up ordered them to.
Ivy refused to pay after that
#disney descendants#harry hook#ivy de vil#like I ship Huma a LOT but watching these two spiral is entertaining

Immediately looked up the quote you put below the zine art and 👀 good quote choice!!!!
Ahh thanks!! I did a dive into russian folklore a while back when I found out that the name 'Koschei' came from the story of Koschei the Deathless, and I immediately had to know what that entailed, naturally. That quote is, as you probably noticed, slightly changed from the original, but that's because (as I said in the tags) it's actually something I had planned for a doctor who fanfic based on the folklore. It's a fic I would love to write some day but alas, I only got so far as chapter 1, but it basically involves the Doctor diving into the Matrix to find the Master after TTC, and there's just russian folklore everywhere. Tecteun is Baba Yaga, the Timeless Child is the Firebird, the Doctor is mostly Prince Ivan (and the magical stead is the TARDIS), but sometimes Marya Morevna, and the Master is mostly Koschei the Deathless but also sometimes Marya Morevna too. I'd probably have the wizards who marry Prince Ivan's sisters as previous incarnations of the Doctor as well, but I hadn't thought that far.
Anyway, part of the reason it's doomed to never be finished is because I was going to do art for it based on Ivan Bilibin's illustrations of the original stories. I only ever ended up sketching one, but funnily enough it was the one for that quote that's on that other art! In the original story, Prince Ivan comes across a battlefield full of dead and dying soldiers, and asks who killed them - and they tell him it was the person in the white tent, who turns out to be the warrior princess Marya Morevna. In my fic, I was planning for it to be that the Doctor steps into a new part of the Matrix and finds the battle field of Skull Moon, or some other battle in the Time War - and, of course, asks who killed everyone. And the answer given is 'the man in the barn' - which turns out to be the War Doctor, of course. So that then sparked the idea of 'child, it was you' - originally, for that print, I was planning to write that entire quote in gold Gallifreyan, because I liked how it kind of referred to both the Doctor and the Master as children of Gallifrey, but also kind of twisted them both together - both the destroyers of the planet, mirroring each others, the same in more ways than they can stand. And that's kind of the meaning of that piece of art.
Anyway - here's the sketch that I did for that fic, and the original Bilibin illustration it was based on!
#long post#taka draws#taka replies#praxeus-13#russian folklore my beloved#there is just SO much in there yknow#doctor who#doctor who fanfic#the doctor#thirteen#fic#I had to dig through my 2021 folder for this rip SKSKSK#i have technically done more art for this#but it's traditional inks and in a weird notebook that's hard to scan rip#not that I ever scan things but yknow#i just love the fact that ivan steals a magical stead from baba yaga#and then the doctor steals the tardis#also i will put koschei in a box. and then i'll put that box inside another box. and then -

Marya ''bell'' was raised in Kazan, I did a twist on this oc, her mother was an American immigrant, but her father was A Russian man.
{ if I get any Russian wording wrong pls don't be afraid to comment}
Cliffside 1986
16 hrs
Marya Bell Belyaev
you know how it feels like to be betrayed by someone you trusted, in the end, someone you know who nearly destroyed your life. This was the moment right here both of them were walking with one another Adler slowly turned his head toward her.
'' I hope you know this is nothing personal. It's being professional. '' She heard Adler now noticing him reach for his gun a reaction sparked as Bell reached for her own gun. But in this instant, he took the moment and shoot her. It was like a blinding to her, as she felt her body hit the ground. Turning her head as she watched him walk past her now
another light flashed in her eyes than
It felt like another wound by her old wound. Surely enough she could see his fading figure going away now. She was so sure this is where she was going to die. Can you blame her? She would have given up and just die until she heard the footsteps rushing toward her body. Till she was flipped on her back. having spotty vision now looking at this man. He looked around 56, having scratchy facial features after all ''Здесь! Я сказал вам, что слышал этот выстрел '' [Over here! I told you I heard that shot] After hearing what the man said
Noticing the man speaking in Russian. ''насколько плохо?'' Another voice ask before Bell Could feel her body slowly being lifted up then ''Help me carry her.'' The voice now spoke Plan English as she felt another arm wrap under her chest. ''Grab Er' Legs will you?''
the voice said to the other one. Right on time, they began dragging Bell's body away. ''How bad' is the wound?'' The other asks his friend. ''Not as bad as I thought' Minor trauma.'' The one responded to his friend then. ''Alright, we got to put er' down so we can call an evac.'' An Evac? Russian soldiers? Bell tried to think even the minor part of her brain was still working. I wasn't dead yet right? The one lifted her head back for a second. ''Her eyes are opened.'' One commented.
┊ ⋆ ┊ . ┊ ┊ ┊ ┊⋆ ┊ .
''How long until they'll get here?'' One asks. ''Not long.'' Another one said. ''Alright, exit wound?'' ''да'' the man who tilted bell's head back responded to the question. ''We'll tend to the wound and wrap it up, that'll all we can do for now got it?'' She could see the man nod his head physically he lowered his head down to get into her line of eyesight.
''We are getting you out of here. Got it, keep your eyes open.'' The male commented as they had to cut off some of the material around the wound to add medicine when trying to add it, They saw her muscle tense up which gave them signs she was still at least holding on. ''Muscle tensing she's hanging on.'' One whispered, before wrapping it up
Not long the rotating of helicopter blades could be heard from close by as the wind began to pick up. '' Здесь '' The man waved his arm as they carried out a stretcher, before anything Bell could feel her body being put on the stretcher in a careful manner. ''You found her like this? '' One of the pilots asks now looking over.
┊ ⋆ ┊ . ┊ ┊ ┊ ┊⋆ ┊ .
After the helicopter began to take off. Her head was being rested on the stretched, overall she could still hear them “ Do you think she’ll make it ?” The pilot ask now
” Most likely. American ? “ the pilot ask now . “ Nonsense I think not.” The other replied. “ closest hospital is Berlin as much we have enemies this is a emergency.
that’s all she could hear before everything had turned white in her eyes. She could hear yelling. The sound of rushing footsteps
the breaching of the door before, feeling a oxygen mask being placed on her mouth. Her blurry vision was blurred by lights. “ She’s waking up !” She heard a nurse physically yelled.
her senses were out of control for a moment. A light being pointed in her eyes. Her eyes tried to follow the light for a second.
“ You’re name? Do you remember it.” She could physically hear the women voice now. As her eyes lowered for a moment “ Hey, keep your eyes open.” She felt someone turned her head
to look at the doctor he now leaned over the table. “ do you remember.” He ask once again with determined tone of his. Maybe it was he had faith that she’d make it through this did he believe that
┊ ⋆ ┊ . ┊ ┊ ┊ ┊⋆ ┊ .
The doctor stared down at her for a second reaching toward the oxygen mask than. It was a barely whisper “ Marya. Belyaev.” She muttered now he pressed his hand against the table
” who did this ?” He ask as he looked over at the nurse who looked at this holding a clipboard. Marya now tried turning her head the other way.
” It’s okay, it’s okay. You can tell us later .” The doctor said realizing overstepping his boundaries . Oddly enough the doctor had a American accent. “ just rest.” He simply stated
She now rested her head. Feeling she was shifted to a bed as they moved it to a room so she could, as they proceed to hook her up to a heart monitor. Turning off the lights as the staff left
even in this state she found herself looking off into the corner, as numbers dates flashed in her eyes for a moment, faces. That were implanted in her head
We got a job to do .
the words keep repeating in her head, before closing her eyes now to rest up now .
[ next chapter will be a perspective , mainly through her thoughts . Might chance it up after .]

Russian name for dandelions is "одуванчик", which roughly translates to "the one that can be blown off" :з.
We also have other banger flower names, such as:
Мать-и-мачеха, "mother-and-stepmother" (tussilago), because one side of their leaves is soft like mother's love, and another is not.
Иван-да-марья, "Ivan and Marya", a colloquial name for a few plants that have two distinct flower colors on a single plant; usually it refers to Melampyrum nemorosum, known as "natt och dag" (night and day) in Swedish. There's a mini-legend that explains the name, something about two lovers in a doomed relationship. Also apparently it originally was named after the pagan Slavic gods, but got renamed after the spread of Christianity.
Безвременник, something like "the out-of-time one" or "the timeless one", a name of a whole genus, Colchicum, aka autumn crocus. Pretty obvious imo.
Вороний глаз, "crow's eye" (paris). It's a single tiny black berry sitting in a massive four-leaf socket; the eye imagery is kinda fitting. And it's toxic, so probably witch imagery plays a part in it as well.
Волчье лыко, "wolf's bast fibre"/волчеягодник, "wolfberry" (daphne). Also poisonous, but other than that, no idea what the wolves have to do with anything.
Подорожник, "the one that grows by the road" (plantain). Fun fact: one of the English names Wikipedia lists is "white man's footprint", which, uh, lol. Literally named for being an invasive species.
english flower names are so evocative. snapdragon. wolfsbane. even as loanwords they're still pretty; dandelion traces back to old french for "lion's tooth". meanwhile the actual french word for dandelion means piss-the-bed

because i wanted to drop some expanded folklore/retelling/alternate interpretation recommendations:
the mere wife by maria dahvana headley: inspired by the epic Beowulf, the mere wife centers around dana, a traumatized young veteran who returns to her rapidly gentrifying mining home town to raise her son gren. mistrustful of society and humanity in general and terrified of losing gren, dana raises him in near total isolation in the mountains bordering herot hall, the first of many shining new suburban expansions.
as gren grows, he becomes curious about the world outside their cave dwelling and eventually befriends dylan, the troubled son of willa, a neurotic socialite with her own baggage. gren and dylan’s unlikely friendship becomes an increasing risk as they age into teenagers, as gren is everything the pampered, bigoted and fearful residents of herot hall have trained themselves to hate.
the mere wife is an extremely compelling tale of two scarred mothers as it switches perspectives between the privileged and dissonant willa and the hardened but loving dana, both of whom are trying to protect their children from the abuse and trauma they suffered as they grew into adulthood.
also a pretty searing look at police violence, the intersection of racism, classism, and homophobia, and the military industrial complex’s exploitation of impoverished black and brown youth to fight its wars.
i, tituba: black witch of salem by maryse condé: i, tituba is a satirical in one sense but deadly serious in another take on tituba, the slave accused of spreading witchcraft to the young puritan girls of salem.
it tells the epic life story of tituba, from her conception aboard a slave ship headed to the caribbean to her childhood as an orphan raised by her foster mother mama yaya, who teaches her the power of healing and communion with the dead.
while tituba grows up technically a free woman, living in the shadow of the plantations but without an owner, she willingly enters slavery again to be with her beloved john indian, and winds up sold to the cruel and tyrannical reverend samuel parris and transported to boston and then salem massachusetts alongside his terrified family.
i tituba systematically unpacks ‘the protestant work ethic’ of the ‘upright and noble pilgrims’ who carved out their existence on the backs of the enslaved and the indigenous population.
tituba suffers just about every abuse and humiliation imaginable but refuses to allow herself to be dissuaded from practicing her own spiritual practices and actively seeks to show compassion and care towards her captors, despite it repeatedly backfiring.
ultimately she survives the witch trials and finds herself back in barbados, where her final fate as a devoted rebel against the plantation system that killed her parents awaits.
the bloody chamber by angela carter: probably carter’s most well known and popular set of short stories, the bloody chamber is a series of original takes on the most gothic and disturbing of european folklore, from bluebeard and his murdered brides to beauty and the beast to all sorts of werewolf and vampire mythos.
carter’s language is as lush and purple prosey as ever, and she vividly paints a series of terrifying and alluring pictures of decrepit castles and manor houses, unhinged inbred aristocrats preying on the peasantry, vampiric maidens and girls raised by wolves, men turned into beasts and beasts turned into men, and lots of sex, gore, ghostly music, and rustling taffeta.
deathless by catherynne m. valente: yes, endlesssly overhyped by tumblr but still a very compelling take on the russian folklore of koschei the deathless and his mortal turned goddess bride, marya morevna, this time set in parallel with the unfolding of russian history in the 20th century.
valente gives an absolutely merciless look at the spiteful and selfish whims of gods and what it means to give up your humanity for love, as well as a tortured narrative surrounding power and control in intimate relationships and questions of gender roles and sexuality.
deathless is probably a most capital R Romantic romance, mostly because both marya and koschei have heaps of charm and beauty and passion... and heaps of obsession, jealous violence, and power hungry ambition.
wide sargasso sea by jean rhys: should be required reading for everyone who has devoured Jane Eyre, rhys’ novella tells the take of the reviled and scorned first wife of rochester.
born to a plantation owning family whose fortunes are crushed when the british empire bans slavery, antoinette grows up a lonely and emotional child, rejected by her grieving and closed off mother and longing for a family and place in the world.
as a young woman her stepfather arranges her marriage to rochester, who wants what’s left of her inheritance, and antoinette finds herself caught between her island home where she is still seen as the hated daughter of slave holders, and england, where she is seen as an impure creole woman who will never be able to conform to victorian propriety.
although initially hopeful of a loving marriage, antoinette quickly realizes that rochester’s passion for her is propelled by fear and insecurity, which quickly makes itself known as he turns against her, labeling her ‘bertha’ after her ‘insane’ mother and treating her as a mentally unstable invalid and then as little more than a prisoner.
lovecraft country by matt ruff: lovecraft country both skewers and embraces the eldritch abominations of hp lovecraft, and tackles his own inhuman racism head on, through the perspectives of the courageous and clever atticus turner and his eccentric and loyal extended family. their adventures take them all over america and into a series of increasingly horrifying encounters with cults, monsters, and white supremacy - sometimes all three at once.
circe by madeleine miller: not nearly as discussed as its predecessor The Song of Achilles, Circe tells the story of Circe, daughter of the arrogant sun god Helios and by some accounts, the ‘first’ witch and sorceress to walk the earth.
exiled to her own desolate island kingdom after defying the gods, Circe becomes a powerful and infamous enchantress, painted as a villain while the gods, who amuse themselves by tormenting and impulsively rewarding men in turn, are honored and venerated. circe quickly realizes her growing powers make her a threat to mortals and gods alike, and must decide what her legacy will be and if she cares at all.

Entomology Specimens stitched by Skittle_kittle.
My entomology cross stitch project, 3 years in the making! I started this project because I wanted to collect real specimens, but at the time it was too much money for the size of the collection I wanted! I had also just started cross stitching, my first project being a butterfly, so i kept at it and here we are!
[The VW Beetle] was my husbands idea and at first I was like no that’s dumb but now I love it!
At the end, these past few months, I specifically looked for blue and purple insects to make the rainbow, not a ton of purple out there!

Comet Theory Thursday: Color Theory & The Great Comet of 1812
This topic won by an absolute landslide this week! It had more votes than the other two combined!! Possibly because of my 'all the baddies wear green post lmao' So I'm gonna try to deliver here. Content under the cut!
First, let's find what we can use for this analysis in the show. What has colors? Costumes, obviously. Lighting. The stage itself, of course. And also any mention of colors in lyrics.
Section I: Lyrical Mentions of Color
There really aren't that many here. The only notable one (that I can think of right now) is the word scarlet, which Natasha uses when she first meets Hélène ("I blush scarlet,") and Hélène uses during Charming. ("You are not a child when you're draped in scarlet and lace.") The word scarlet itself is interesting, as it means a specific shade of red, not just red in general. Scarlet evokes feelings of maturity, luxury, and so on. Both times are when Natasha is interacting with Hélène, and being introduced to the lavish life of Moscow, as well as discovering sexuality.
Section II: Costumes
(Im not going to go back into the all-the-baddies-wear-green-theory right now, I already talked about that in a different post.) Natasha and Sonya wear white throughout the whole play. White often evokes the impression of kindness, angels, purity especially, etc. It's also the color of snow, which is mentioned a few times. So it can give off either pure/good vibes, or it can be cold, stark, and harsh. White also gives off feelings of luxury. Anatole also wears white when we first meet him, and later, white and black. (Before his green coat.) In Act II, Natasha adopts Anatole's affinity to white and black with her dressing gown.
We have our allies, our 'good guys', in warmer, more inviting colors. Marya in red, Pierre in yellow. Red gives off the feelings of luxury, royalty, dignity, anger, and passion, as well as other things. A fitting choice for Marya. It's also a color of celebration in a lot of cultures, so that's fun! Yellow, especially warm yellow like that of Pierre's waistcoat, is most oftenly associated with softer, gentler feelings of kindness. Like comfort and happiness. It's also a color associated with alcohol. Another fitting choice.
Then we have our other characters in black and white. Princess Mary, and my boy Dolokhov. These are as far apart on the brightness scale as possible (duh) and may represent some kind of internal conflict. We see both characters going through some shit. Mary with her... everything, and Dolokhov with his own debate of whether or not to keep supporting the abduction.
Section III: Lighting & The Stage Itself
We all know that GC has an absolutely fucking BONKERS stage. But we're just gonna talk about the colors for now. The stage is red with mostly gold railings. It feels very Russian, and very luxurious and fancy. Royal, even. It brings you into the world before the show even begins.
Then, we have the lighting. Oh boy, the LIGHTING. I could go on about the lighting for HOURS. But c'mon Audrey, just the colors right now. Of course we have the normal, warm lights for a lot of the play, which are good in setting the mood along with the stage. When Anatole first shows up, we get this huge fucking BURST of BRIGHTASS WHITE LIGHT. Bitch is ANNOUNCING HIMSELF. Remember the feelings of coldness, luxury, and shit I mentioned earlier? Yeah. We have that here.
Also we've got some beautiful blues during No One Else, which I just have to mention, because it makes Natasha look like a fucking ANGEL. "How beautiful you looked in the snow" DAMN RIGHT SONYA-
Then of course we have whatever the fuck's happening during The Duel. The bright flashing at the beginning disorients you, just like you'd feel if you were in an actual club/drunk. Then we have the lights mostly dimmed with a bluish tone to them, while the ensemble runs around in their fuckin light-up sketchers and shit. The bright neons definitely bring out the club feel more.
All in all, GC does some great shit with colors. Big brain, guys. Round of applause. Sorry this is a bit rushed and stuff- hope you enjoyed! Remember to vote for next week's topic!
