ROYAL BLOOD is an 80-page rules-light heist roleplaying game for three or more players and a gamesmaster. To play, you’ll need a deck of tarot cards and a handful of coins.

You’re one of the court cards from the tarot deck – the impetuous Princess of Wands, the calculating Knight of Pentacles, the empire-building Queen of Wands, and so on. You use magic like a brick through the window of the world.

THEY are the Arcane – Death, The Hanged Man, The Devil, The Lovers, The Star. They are reality-bending monsters that wear human skin like a suit.

TONIGHT, before dawn, you are going to corner one of them and take their power for your own in a heist the likes of which the worlds have never seen. The city is going to burn. It’s going to be beautiful.

Rock Duo Royal Blood on Jimmy Page

"There’s this really nice, gentle guy beneath all the mystery he’s built up over so long.”

Royal Blood have revealed that Led Zeppelin’s Jimmy Page was “really encouraging” when he showed up at one of their gigs earlier this year.

The legendary guitarist turned up to watch the band at a gig in New York back in May when they played the city’s Grasslands venue.

In an interview in this week’s NME, which is on newsstands or available digitally now, the band describe the scene as Page walked into their dressing room.

“All these security guards came into our dressing room and scouted out the area, these big motherfuckers with earpieces,” drummer Ben Thatcher says.

“There was a wall of security [but] there was no ego; our conversation was all about guitars and amps. He was really encouraging: ‘Go and smash LA.’ There’s this really nice, gentle guy beneath all the mystery he’s built up over so long.”

“When you leave people like Jimmy Page I think, ‘Fuck, we could be that to someone else and no-one could really know who Royal Blood are. We could be this mystery, this illusion.”

What do you remember from meeting Jimmy Page?

Kerr: “We heard the rumour he might be coming, and it was at the Mercury lounge in New York which holds about 200 people, so it’s on the intimate side. I just remember walking onto stage, and in that venue [with] the dressing room you have to walk through the crowd to get to the stage, and I walked out the dressing room door and I literally brushed shoulders when I walked past, and was overcome with a wave of excitement and fear.

“I also have the memory of opening up the show, playing that first song keeping my head down, and when I plucked up the courage to look up [and] gauge what his reaction [would be], and I just saw him with a big smile on his face, loving it. That moment will never leave me.”
