Alright, so. I went and played Portal Reloaded again, and until I figure out some more things from Mel, the timeline is looking like.

Rexaura -> Portal Reloaded (stable/past side) -> Portal -> Portal Reloaded (unstable/future side) -> Portal: Revolution -> Portal Stories: Mel -> Portal 2 -> Portal 2 (Co-op main campaign) -> Aperture Tag -> Portal 2 (Co-op additional campaign)

Slowly checking out the co-op of Portal Reloaded to see if that adds something

This server focuses on an expansion in Aperture's scope of testing beyond simple portal testing. With the success of the cooperative testing initiative, GLaDOS has begun to explore the possibilities for additional testing initiatives, as well as the return of the original singular portal testing tracks she began with.

Hello! You may know me from my main blog @chaoticcutiewhirl but this blog can be basically seen as a sort of ad. Before you Scroll, let me explain. Portal New Age of Testing is an RP server, me and my friend Fludd worked hard on, there are so many plans such as adding game elements to the RP and trying to create a world set after Portal 2 that will eventually touch upon Half-life. I will be planning to post a couple of RP snippets through my time here, as possible ideas of what you are getting into, and yes, I will mark it when it is other Writers other than me on the RP which will be almost always.  If you see this and think RP is childish, well you are kind of right, only thing is, that RP is also played as a game as well as a possibility to get better at writing. Do you want to better thrink of how to write internal dialogue, boom you have testing and having your character try to figure out what to do. Do you want to test a character idea for something you’re writing? Well as long as it fits within canon, test them in RP. Do you just want to find possible online writing friends? Well this server can also have your back. We are already on Disboard but I am trying to reach out here as well because Tumblr is mainly an artist alley, which includes writers and writing side of Tumblr, if you played Portal (and its tumblr, of course you have, its ome of the most lgbtq+ kinda games from a big company), come over and join, we will be happy to have you. We also have a fairly strong artist side of the server with members like Fludd for example creating the gif and video from above, all on his own may I add. 

Simply put, if you have an itch to write portal and you don’t want to write a fan fic, come over and join us, everyone is welcomed!

Ryu the Lunar Pugilist

I made this for Rexaura on the official Sea of Stars Discord. It's his Solstice Warrior OC - a Lunar Lucario. I just kind of did it on a whim - I very much enjoyed the idea of crossing Pokemon - especially Lucario - over with this game. It was pretty fun to work on!

Oh yeah also, there are plans to include affects of Half-life down the line as the server will explore the lives of the escaped protagonists as well as the canon characters within and it also can include your OCs.

Portal Stories: Mel is defiantly my favourite. It has fun puzzles, the most complete story, fits in well with the official games story/timeline and Virgil is my favourite core. It's as good as the official games and I possible like it a little bit more than them.

Portal: Reloaded is my second favourite. It’s Portal with a whole new dimension! Fun puzzles but lacks a fun story to go with it. The bits of story we get are fine but I like a good story.

Aperture Tag is slippy slidey bouncy fun. I dislike Nigel and get fed up of the toilet humour but mostly find the game an enjoyable ride.

Thinking With Time Machine is okay for what it is. It’s a short little game with an interesting machinic. It could be argued that it’s an early Reloaded but, unless you want to play every single mod its fine to miss this one.

The only other fangame I’ve played is Rexaura. It’s another short one and again, it’s one you can miss. It’s fine but nothing to write home about.

So far, I have beaten Portal: Revolution today, which was released just yesterday, I'm currently working on Rexaura and Portal Reloaded.

I decided to start playing some Portal mods I never got around to, and Portal: Unity is...disappointing. So far, it does a nice job recreating Portal 2 testing elements in Portal 1, but the puzzles are like if I took that one fling that was too precise for Portal's physics engine from ZC07 and made a whole series of chambers like that.

Also, if you make a chamber so obtuse I give in and Google the solution, and the answer was to shoot a portal at a blank black wall that you can secretly shoot through and has a secret switch on the other side, you failed at puzzle design 😑

More broadly, the number of dead ends, lack of indicators between switches and what they activate (to the point pressing a button might instantly kill you without warning), testing elements working inconsistently, and liberal use of rocket turrets for lazy tension all feel so unpolished I am surprised this made it on my radar alongside the likes of more polished mods.

Edit: Granted, IDK how old or experienced the folks who made this were. If they were in high school like I was when I made the first iteration of PortalZ, zero judgement, but PortalZ also does not end up on lists alongside Prelude, Rexaura, and TFV.

Edit 2: Ughhh, the final battle would have been so fun if they just added some indicator lights and closed the elevator doors until they needed your attention instead of making you trial-and-error your way through the whole thing. Instead it just ended up tedious 😕

Edit 3, a few days later: I actually looked into it further the other day and learned he made the original mod with some friends while in high school, which kind of makes it even more impressive despite its issues! It is still not the first Portal mod I would recommend someone try, of course, but makes me even more want to look into what he has made more recently when I have time!

Rexaura

I had a huge gap in playing Rexaura (almost 4 years), so my memory is more than a bit hazy. I don't really recall how I felt about Rexaura, but I clearly did not dislike it, as I didn't bother to uninstall the game. The puzzles in my final session were challenging but fair, and the ending was suitably horrifying.

Why doesn’t anyone ever talk about the other portal mods there are? Open your mind (and heart) beyond portal stories. Also I need to know if there are any other good mods pls interact I’m starving for portal puzzles

So far it's not that i have "favorite mods", more like i found only two other campaign in the steam shop and i've downloaded them.

I've been playing Rexaura lately - it's based on Portal 1, and it's a neat balance of challenging without it being TOO hard either (glaring at you Portal Reloaded)

the other one i downloaded but haven't tried yet is based on Portal 2 and it's Portal Stories: Mel. it looks interesting so far but i wait until i finish Rexaura to start it

so here u go my dear fellow Portal addict :3c a good place to start until we eventually run out of Portal content and start crying.

(apparently a few community mods are planning on releasing next year or so though so gotta keep an eye on them. I put them on my wishlist in the meantime so i get warned when they go live DLFKJDf)

Can anyone recommend some mods/maps for Portal 1/2 which I can play rn? I've played most major ones, but stopped tracking somewhen around PS: Mel and Rexaura. PS: Mel in VR was fun, so VR experiences are appreciated.
