forcing myself to function through anxiety feels like im piloting an animatronic of myself

#very out of body like keep urself warm bc that helps with anxiety and forcing myself to eat and drink and i even wrote a whole cover letter #and im about to handwash laundry and the whole time my body feels like static #listen im like fine im anxious bc my grandma is now on hospice care and is declining fast and im across the globe from my family #and i was already anxious about a job interview thursday and about not having ajob yet and about my lease ending and about some minor healt #problems im experiencing and about my current research fellowship abroad so now im just in a constant anxiety attack #and tbh i want to talk to my mom about it but shes busy handling everything with my dying grandma #which like her health has been declining for two years it just took a rapid turn this weekend so its not a surprise just this is #bad timing for me personally to be processing this and dreading a call from home #like i'll be fine its just anxiety and stress and like certainly not the first time ive faced grief #i dont really want to talk about it #i just needed to vent it in some way bc i dont really want to talk to the students here about it

#i tried to small talk #and they werent rly listening and were like i just wanna get this done w so i can eat #yet talked to me abt smth random after #but the moving the laptop is what made me draw this 😭#like is that not absurd????#i dont wanna rewatch the video #but i wanna see what the camera frame looked like #bcs from what i saw my drawing is p accurate #but yeah they also talked for the majority of the time #even tho i did more research bcs they took up most of the slides #AND ALSO TOOK MY IDEAS #im like uhhhh im p sure [insert slide topic] is required!!!#and i went to go start writing it #and theyre like oh okay ill do that slide #and even tho i kept reminding them of the slide requirement #they kept being like ugh i cant think of anything #and then would take my ideas when i proposed them #like the conclusion part was to write a proposal abt what solution can be made for the current event topic #AND i took notes the night before and wrote down the idea for the solution #and i told them and theyre like oh yeah thats okay and started writing those slides #i know i should be more assertive but im so conflict avoidant and was kinda like oh. okay. ah.#lmao i hope this doesnt make me come off as someone victimizing themselves #im just annoyed 😭😭#and also this person was on my abroad trip and we all hated them #but i felt bad abt how much we hated them and theyre(I THOUGHT) much more chill in a classroom setting #so i kinda softened my hate for them and theyre the only person i know in my class rly #so im like ahhhh we should work together!#and now i remember why i dislike them 😭😭#catie.rambling.txt #catie.art.

Day 4/100 of The 100 Days of Productivity Challenge

Today I:

slept for 3 hours

woke up at 6am

had a proper breakfast

attended classes for Numerical Methods (matlab is super fun) and Compressible Aerodynamics (studied mach number and speed of sound, flow regimes at different mach numbers, did some mathematical derivations, more like stuff we've already studied in earlier courses but i liked it cause now it's from a compressible perspective.) The rest of the day was free so that was nice. came back to my room and had a 3 hour nap

had two teas and a slush to hydrate

read up on Heat Transfer (this cengel guy really writes good books y'all. heat and mass transfer looks like an epic book)

walked ~ 6.5k steps (the biking yesterday destroyed me istg)

calories burned: 190

moisturized and stuff (lmao)

watched The Wind Rises for inspo (oh man amazing stuff. a. aesthetic, b. motivation)

#tokyo mew mew #ichisaya #ichigo momomiya #masaya aoyama #yes I’m still here #got some ideas still coming down the pipeline #just been really busy and stressed lately #but yeah I wish we could get a canon reunion like this #Masaya would probably still need to travel a lot for his work but I think it’d be shorter stretches of time than the abroad program #and especially while he’s so young he’d probably do more of them and ichigo would even come along for a few #and when he’s ready to settle down and have a family he’d do more domestic research and work #I could even see him being a professor at some point #I think these two do a lot of shuffling with their careers but they always make it work in the end depending on what their needs are #my dumb art #Oh also for that second page if anyone is wondering why she’s on top of him #that’s cause I headcanon she likes to lie on top of him in her sleep #Like she does it unconsciously #so he got back and saw she was sleeping and settled down in the bed next to her waiting for her to wake up and she just did that lol #I have another comic showing the same headcanon

#hello i just watched this video and started crying when they said the original sculptor's finger prints are preserved in the bronze casting #this is so cool and i love this sculpture so much #im also thinking i need to start looking into archaeology in turtle island and see if there's any Indigenous archaeologists to work with..#bc ive always wanted to do archaeology but archaeology in turtle island has such a bad past #and is very closely associated with theft and disrespectful practices for Indigenous peoples past and present #so i never really considered doing archaeology here as an option #thought the only way to do archaeology in a way that honoured and respected the people of the past would be to go abroad #but this video and the care that was taken when recreating the pots in bronze makes it clear that no #it is possible to do archaeology in a good way here too #i just have to find other Indigenous people who are the ones leading the research teams #anyway. this is a v cool video and it made me emotional so here. for you all to see as well!#indigenous #indigenous art #sculpture #experimental archaeology #archeology #video

in news from grad life, my supervisor asked me about phd plans today and upon hearing i want to take a few years to do various non-academic things before i start one, immediately produced an application form for a scholarship to study abroad in iceland for a year? like this was not remotely on the radar of what i was planning for next year but tbf i hadn't actually planned that much, and i was initially looking at a master's programme in iceland before i settled on the one i've actually ended up on, so... why not! could be living in iceland this time next year! sometimes niche, half-buried teenage dreams do come true!

#it is a scholarship to study the first year of the BA in icelandic as a second language #and i think after that year you can choose whether to reapply for the scholarship and keep going with the rest of the degree or not #i have other vague post-masters ideas such as enrolling in a 6ish month long creative writing course i've had an eye on for a while #but that is online and could theoretically be done alongside a uni course in icelandic #if anyone following me for whatever reason knows anything about being an international student in iceland i am eager for advice #spending my evening hyping myself up and going down study abroad research rabbit holes #15 y.o. magnus studying a beat-up second-hand icelandic grammar book on their school lunch breaks is thriving rn #oh i am also taking very *very* beginner's icelandic classes at uni alongside my master's this year but it's not certified/accredited #i don't even think the teacher is qualified i'm p sure they just enlisted the first icelandic man they found who happened to be in the city #rambles

i was reading such a good book on my aunt’s tablet and i even wrote the title down to not forget but it was all just a dream…tragedy…

this might sound a bit. asshole-ish? but the type of gay ppl that go on vacation somewhere and go "cant believe we have to pretend to be roommates in this country because being gay is illegal here :(" get extremely on my nerves

#is it the fact that they make it seem like homophobia only exists abroad?#like they think the country theyre visiting is specifically gonna target THEM to imprision instead of like... the actual gay locals #that are more at risk???#or even when a single lgbt person goes abroad and is like 'i had to research what countries i could go to that are lgbt friendly'#as someone who is extremely cishet passing. and YOURE ALONE. and even if they yell slurs at you youre not gonna understand them so? idk #and its usually white people saying this too (and i say this as a white person). it just feels like them using their oppression bc they LIK #bc they LIKE to feel oppressed. like theyre cool. as in 'look at me i also have a hard time traveling'#(in comparison to poc's racist experiences abroad)#z xarre

Day 7/100 of The 100 Days of Productivity Challenge

Today I:

woke up at 9.40

had a proper brunch

enjoyed the day because the weather was nice

celebrated some girls' birthdays

had a coffee

tried to make some headway on my Mechanical Behavior of Materials assignment

walked ~ 7k steps and plucked some pretty roses (got a bit of an allergy but welp i love flowers too much, idc about allergies anymore)

calories burned: 250ish

relaxed a lot and feel nice about it. Since my weekend plans were so rudely destroyed, I just relaxed a lot. No guilt kinda.
