These golden hues remind Brambleclaw so much of his mother, Goldenflower. He sees his mother in his children; this pleases him.

In actuality, the gold came from Sandstorm.

Though, they were never his to begin with. And these traits he believed to have seen were simple illusions of a cat whose features he had already started to forget.

But oh, how her fur would shine in the sun, a lovely shade of gold. It must be a match for their fur shined in the sun as well.

can i ask how exactly jayfeather's power works in your universe? i'm quite curious to know!!

In my universe, his powers are sort of complicated.

For one, Jayfeather can not walk in dreams,

Instead, Jayfeather can feel "true" emotions. These emotions feel like the warmth of a hug or the touch of icy water to Jayfeather.

For example, if someone is sad and says they are not, Jayfeather can "feel" their lie.

Second, unfortunately, in a more complex manner, Jayfeather can read concentrated, conscious, thoughts.

For example:

Here Mousepaw recalls Berrypaw's complaints. He thinks specifically about asking Lionpaw to go easy on his brother.

For this reason, Jaypaw can read these thoughts.

Yet, Jayfeather cannot read "unconscious" thoughts.

Think of it as a filter, almost. There is a stream of "thoughts". As a whole, Jayfeather can not discern each specific idea. In the blur of things, "concentrated" thoughts can trickle out. These are the ones Jayfeather can read per se.

Sorry if this is so complicated. Please remember that this is also my own terminology in the manner of how I define things; which can be different than yours.

It's so much fun to talk about it though.

CHAPTER 5

Mousepaw’s senses stirred before his mind fully caught up. The world around him was slow to come into focus, his limbs aching as if weighed down by stones. A gentle and persistent warmth seeped into his fur, easing the dull throb in his muscles. Slowly, he cracked open his eyes, only to squint against the golden light streaming from above. 

The distant rush of water reached his ears, a rhythmic sound that pulled his attention outward. 

A river.

Blinking against the brightness, Mousepaw took in his surroundings. His heart jolted. He didn’t recognize this place.

Unsteady, he pushed himself onto trembling legs, his white paws pressing against smooth, sun-warmed stone. The heat beneath him was comforting, grounding him in a moment of quiet confusion. He stood atop a rock formation that sloped gently toward a river’s edge, where the water surged with an undeniable force. The current would have dragged him under if he had been any closer.

Beyond the river, marshland stretched into the horizon, blurring into a thick forest. The canopy above was alive with movement, shifting leaves dappling the ground in ever-changing shadows. The air itself carried an energy, vibrant and rich with the scent of growth and damp earth.

Yet something felt… wrong.

Mousepaw inhaled deeply, his nose twitching at the familiar yet distorted scent of ThunderClan. It was similar but strange, like a word spoken in the wrong tone or a face that almost—but not quite—matched a memory. An uncanny wrongness that made his paws itch.

i always love when the fic updates <3 no rush or anything!!

Thank you!! I love working on this fic, and I've been feeling pretty confident about my writing.

Though I just uploaded another chapter and didn't feel too confident, but oh well!

Mousewhisker trains in the dark forest. But I did a whole revamp of the concept. Characters are still evil and have their own gains, but its done differently, I'm also revamping the concept of Starclan in this fic, as well as Jayfeather's powers.

I always liked when Starclan was this blurry/abstract concept from the first series. It just made it more fun and mysterious.

I'm definitely trying to focus more on character relationships with one another- especially between the apprentices. So hopefully that comes across well :)

i wanna know more about mousejay! what made you like them? is there some connection they have in canon? i’m so curious!

It just sorta happened!

Mousewhisker is one of my favorite background characters since there’s so much about his character that hasn’t been, and probably will never be explored!

A lot of the silly interactions of them are my own headcanon!
