spottedleaf hates bluestar and she hates featherwhisker and she hates thunderclan for not doing anything about thistleclaw, she sees how they were willing to let his behavior slide because he was a respected warrior. Anytime bluestar tries talking to her she wants to vomit she wants to tear off her bandaged paws and slice into bluestar until her face looks like shredded pork bluestar has tried apologizing to her but it was so shitty it was so ass, not even about spottedleaf's own trauma it was all just "If I had known" "If I knew better", bluestar makes it all about *herself*. every apology spottedleaf has gotten by any of the older thunderclan cats, she could tell it was done to relieve their conscious and not actually make an effort to help her or mend broken bonds. She can't get mad either that is the bullshit part, she *must* be okay with what they're saying otherwise she's just being difficult. Then she will be blamed for her own abuse for lashing out, thunderclan doesn't care about her they just want to forget everything that is a detriment to their own social morale she wants to poison the food supply in camp and watch everyone die she wants to hurt them

Process, WIPs and detail rambling under the cut:

Sara and I rarely get to do detailed, non-comic page illustration work, and wanted to get some painterly texture to set this apart from regular comic panels. We did some tests early on in the process:

(inked lineart on the left and graphite lineart on the right)

Sara used some soft, chunky (8B!!!) graphite pencils to get the storybook texture we ended up going with. I also used a gritty digital "gouache" brush to softly paint the whole illustration, and used a watercolor texture overlay I had on hand for added crunch.

These are the rough sketches I sent in to our editor and designer- I normally do a rough color pass at this stage. It's a little extra work, but it's worth it to not feel totally lost on color later in the process.

More WIPs...I think it looked pretty good in black and white too, honestly!

Like, she represents all the cats that have been hurt before her, either by the clans or otherwise, she falls back and rises up like a tsunami or a tempest, destroying all in her path

She was called, by her own self, her own memories and unbridled righteous rage, to conquer pain and destroy those who shattered the peace

She’s been here, in those woods before, frightened and fleeing

she’s there now, blood on her claws and fury in her voice

She’ll be there after, dead and in memory or alive and a whispered threat

Au where SpottedPaw flees Thunderclan after she grows to fear that ThistleClaw is going to kill her to make sure nobody finds out him abusing her and later on she forms Bloodclan as "Scourge"

spottedleaf became the sole medicine cat of thunderclan only a couple of moons before the events of into the wild, when a greencough pandemic raging through thunderclan took featherwhisker’s life (as well as poppydawn and five unknown kits). mousefur is always there for her when the weight of her duty is too heavy to bear alone, but spottedleaf’s new responsibility plants fresh seeds of fear in their minds about the future of their relationship.
