Recent research explores why music seems to act as a good cue for evoking memories.
youtube
Associated people and places are remembered, a common experience known as music-evoked autobiographical memory.
It often manifests itself as an unconscious memory, and it often grabs our attention through the way music affects our minds, bodies and emotions.
When music grabs our attention, this increases the likelihood that it will be encoded in memory along with details of life events.
Positive recall In a recent study, the emotionality of a piece of music was an important factor in its ability to act as a memory cue.
We compared music to other emotional memory cues, including "emotional sounds" (such as nature and factory noises) and "emotional words" (such as "money" and "tornado").
Music consistently evoked more positive memories than emotional sounds and words, especially for negative emotional stimuli.
Music seems to be able to reconnect us with past emotionally positive moments, suggesting that its use in therapy may be particularly effective.

🔹 We are growing all the time - it may not be in the way or direction we had once hoped for as life has a way of taking us on journeys we did not envisage or anticipate. Sometimes our growth can be actually be stifling - if we learn unhelpful coping strategies that prevent positive change, the growth in the unhelpful habit expands, stretches and forms better ways of establishing itself. Unhelpful behaviours can quickly act as a way suppressing emotions that seem overwhelming and can quickly confirm negative self beliefs like ‘I can’t do it so there’s no use trying’. If the unhelpful growth continues and isn’t challenged the unhelpful beliefs and thoughts can soon create an environment where change is really tough. Much harder than it initially may have been. 🔹 Natural growth doesn’t mean giving in to what may be easier to do. It can mean to try to follow what feels natural, right and positive. Following your interests, pursuits and interests because they make you feel grounded and fulfilled rather than doing what you think is expected of you by friends, family, society as a tick box exercise. Obviously we all have duties and responsibilities but your self care needs to be something that allows you to grow. To grow naturally and to grow freely in ways you may not have thought about. It can be more useful to let go of ideas about our future and live in the moment to understand what is truly meaningful to us and allow it to grow. 🔹 Like the branches on a tree, allow your growth to blossom, flourish and take routes that cannot be predicted but provide support for future growth, connection and grace. #naturalgrowth #corestrength #grounding #strength #resilience #reachout #grounded #treetrunk #mindfulness #growth #yougotthis #meditation #reflection #thoughtful #support #therapy #onlinetherapy #psychology #psychologicalgrowth #development #motivation #sundayselfcare #mindset #personaldevelopment #drkaurtherapy (at London, United Kingdom) https://www.instagram.com/p/BujBhY4BPKX/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=qi2lxoqyxe8p

🔹 The term core strength is mostly associated with exercise - strengthening your core muscles through various physical techniques. This is no doubt important. However core strength is also a term that can be borrowed to refer to psychological well-being. Building an inner resilience to guard against the stresses we all experience in life. Often the resilience building comes through experiencing difficulties in life. Just as muscles develop when they are pushed to their limit, psychological strength develops in the same way. Through adversity comes strength, if there is a willingness to learn and reflect. 🔹 A tree holds its strength in the trunk and roots through grounding. In the same way each of us can use our experiences to strengthen our resolve and develop courage in learning to stretch out and reach for our goals and aims, knowing that we can hold our own. 🔹 Your strength is within you and has come from everything you have experienced in life so far. Stay grounded. Keep going, keep reaching, keep striving. #corestrength #grounding #strength #resilience #reachout #grounded #treetrunk #mindfulness #growth #yougotthis #meditation #reflection #thoughtful #support #therapy #onlinetherapy #psychology #psychologicalgrowth #development #motivation #sundayselfcare #mindset #personaldevelopment #drkaurtherapy (at London, United Kingdom) https://www.instagram.com/p/BuQq8-1hLAL/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=o5xfwj3lgu3o
