Growth. And the Uncomfortable Feeling That Follows:
Growth is always followed by excruciating discomfort. If you haven’t felt discomfort, you haven’t grown.
I remember entering 2024 with the most naïve and confident mindset—as though the universe always gives me what I want when I want it. I believed I would achieve everything I aimed for this year—physically, financially, and mentally.
It’s 22nd September, 9:18 pm. I sit here in the corner of my bed, contemplating the events that have unfolded this year. I’d say this year peeled itself like an onion. The onion being me, and the layers represent resilience, wit, and the courage to be uncomfortable and even disliked. The lessons came in the form of experiences and people.
Will I see you next year, Paati?
The mere thought haunted me as I boarded my flight back to the United States at the end of January 2024. She passed away in March 2024, with the sweetest smile on her face. All I could picture was her lying in bed as she bid us goodbye.
That moment marked the beginning of my growth—a dawn of voicing my opinion and asking for help. I reached out to a friend in Buffalo, asking her not to leave me alone when I heard the news of my granny passing away. She carried my grief with me for a week, reminding me that though it was mine to carry for life, she would always be there to help me bear it.
I told my best friend I missed her after a month of no contact. I admitted I couldn’t do this without her by my side. She set aside our quarrels, our differences, and fought my battles with me.
This year also emphasized the importance of setting boundaries. I asked friends, acquaintances, potential partners, and even family members to understand—gently but firmly—that life didn’t revolve around their reality. If something made me uncomfortable, uneasy, or restless, it didn’t stay with me, gnawing at my mind just so someone else could sleep peacefully at the cost of my own mental health.
I couldn’t resist this change. I felt burdened by the existence of who I used to be—a culmination of saying multiple "yeses," a fear of being disliked that hid my true self. Though I had withdrawn from people-pleasing over the years, this year it left its deepest imprint.
A surge of bold words, impactful—sometimes even impulsive—decisions, broken friendships, and lost potential relationships defined this year.
Yet, in calmer, quieter moments, people stayed.
Though the storm inside me was shockingly typhonic, some told me I did the right thing by setting boundaries, even if it meant losing access to certain people for my own well-being. I stood by what was right for me, even though the process was uncomfortable.
When everything felt like it was falling apart, as setting boundaries became even harder with the pressures of finding a job as an international student, two of my best friends reminded me that I was going to be okay. They told me they could see my growth, even if I couldn’t see it yet.
And I reminded myself that I was going to be okay. With every boundary I placed came the fear of losing yet another friendship or relationship, and with every rejection I faced from the job market, my self-worth seemed to sink a little deeper.
In those fleeting moments, I remembered how deeply I am loved. I am a human who believes in love and gives people the benefit of the doubt, thanks to my grandparents’ upbringing—a trait I love myself for. I am deeply loved by my parents.
I am passionate about research, and I came here to create a name for myself. There is no stepping back from that, certainly.
And, oh, how deeply I am loved by my friends. The love I’ve given out to the universe has always come back to me through my platonic friends. The universe is taking some time to cook up what I am asking for, but I know it’s worth the wait, and I know I am worthy of it.
So, if life has gotten a little out of control, my friend, have a good laugh about it. Ask for help from your friends, tell them you need a shoulder to cry on, and, more importantly, pray.
I have found faith through resilience. I pray you find the courage to do what is right, even if it makes you uncomfortable, even if it means losing people whose presence once made life easier for you.

UNVEILING THE POWER WITHIN: NEVILLE GODDARD’S PHILOSOPHY ON SELF-REALISATION AND MANIFESTATION
Neville Goddard's profound statement, "You are already that which you want to be," encapsulates a powerful philosophy that transcends conventional thinking and delves into the realms of self-realization and manifestation. At its core, this statement challenges the common notion that our aspirations lie in some distant future or external reality. Instead, it invites us to recognize the inherent connection between our present self and our desired state.
Goddard, a mystic and metaphysical teacher, advocated for the idea that our imagination plays a pivotal role in shaping our reality. He emphasized the concept that the subconscious mind, when impressed with a vivid mental image, has the ability to bring forth circumstances and events that align with that image. In essence, Goddard suggests that the key to achieving our desires lies in recognizing and embodying the desired state within ourselves.
The statement encourages a shift in perspective from a sense of lack or longing to a realization of abundance within. It urges individuals to tap into their creative power and embrace the belief that the seeds of their aspirations already exist within their consciousness. This approach aligns with the broader philosophy of the law of attraction, suggesting that like attracts like and that by embodying the qualities of our desires, we draw them closer.
Moreover, Goddard's quote underscores the importance of self-awareness and the acknowledgment of our own capacity for transformation. It challenges the conventional mindset that perceives personal growth as a linear journey, emphasizing that the journey towards becoming what we want to be is not one of acquiring external possessions but rather a process of inner realization and alignment.
Practically, this philosophy encourages individuals to engage in vivid mental rehearsals, visualizing themselves already living the life they desire. By consistently impressing these mental images onto the subconscious, one is said to set in motion a series of events and actions that lead to the manifestation of those desires in the physical realm.
In conclusion, Neville Goddard's quote, "You are already that which you want to be," encapsulates a transformative perspective on personal growth and manifestation. It challenges individuals to recognize their inherent creative power, inviting them to bridge the gap between their present reality and their aspirations by embodying the desired state within themselves. As we internalize this philosophy, we may find a profound shift in our approach to goal-setting and self-realization, realizing that the journey towards our desires begins from within.

Carrying Others' Karma
As I continue to blog about the things that bring understanding and may resonate, I hope they bring understanding and can resonate with you too. Karma isn’t always easy to understand.
When we talk about 'living other people's karma,' we're referring to the idea that individuals can be influenced or impacted by the actions of others, either positively or negatively. Honestly, we're all living and carrying others' karma, collectively and personally in one way or another.
Brexit
The economic downturn in Britain, can be seen as a consequence of the uncertainty surrounding Brexit and its impact on trade, investment and financial markets. Similarly, the freedom of movement loss, is a direct result of the decision to leave the EU's single market and customs union.
The Pandemic
The pandemic is another situation where people are collectively living others' karma. 4-years in and the politicians' decision to lift all precautionary measures is leaving the vulnerable even more exposed and even more isolated. Although the vaccine helps, with it you can still catch and spread the virus. The physical protections should still be in place to protect the vulnerable.
Here are some more perspectives on karma:
Interconnectedness
Some belief systems emphasise the interconnectedness of all living beings, where the actions of one person can have a ripple effect, influencing others in a web of interconnected relationships. This leads to the idea that we are all part of a collective karma, and our actions contribute to the state of the world.
Family and Community Dynamics
The actions of family members or community members can shape an individual's values, beliefs, and behaviours. Growing up in a loving and caring family or community can instil positive values and promote healthy behaviours. Being exposed to negative influences or engaging in harmful behaviours within the family or community, can lead to the adoption of negative or unhealthy habits.
Additionally, it can also directly affect the wellbeing and development of an individual. Positive actions, such as support and encouragement, can create a nurturing environment that promotes emotional growth and success. Negative actions, such as abuse or neglect, can have long-lasting harmful effects on an individual's physical, mental and emotional wellbeing.
Empathy and Compassion
Understanding and acknowledging that others may be experiencing the consequences of their actions can foster empathy and compassion, but it can also foster judgment. On the other hand, it can also encourage individuals to approach others with understanding, recognising that everyone is on their own karmic journey and dealing with the consequences of their past actions.
We all have a collective responsibility
The concept of living other people's karma needs to highlight the importance of collective responsibility. In society, individuals need to be responsible for their own actions, although from what we're seeing innocent people are getting caught in the consequences of collective actions, such as political decisions, environmental policies and societal norms. It is important to be mindful of the impact on the collective karma of communities and of society as a whole.
Personal Accountability
While external factors influence our lives, philosophical traditions also emphasise personal responsibility and the idea that individuals have the power to shape their own destiny through their actions and choices.
While many view karma as a cosmic justice system, others may see it as a guideline for ethical living. The idea of living other people's karma invites contemplation on the interconnected nature of human existence and the serious impact our actions have on others and ourselves.
While it may be tempting to assign blame or responsibility to certain individuals or groups, understanding karma encourages us to view these events as reflections of collective choices and actions. The bottom line is that we are all interconnected and the repercussions of our collective decisions affect us all.

I usually end the year with a reflection piece, somewhat detailing the lessons of my year.
However, this year I have taken on the attitude that what’s dead is dead and everything I was meant to take with me is now a part of me without having to explain it.
Instead, I am choosing to preserve my energy and work with it as part of my creativity.
This small entry is my transitional statement as we enter into 2023.

"I will show you something different from either
Your shadow at morning striding behind you
Or your shadow at evening rising to meet you;
I will show you fear in a handful of dust." - T.S. Eliot (The Wasteland)
Sometimes the deepest wounds come from the people we love and care about the most and sometimes the only way to overcome those wounds is to transmute the pain, the blood, sweat, and tears from something meant to break us into something beautiful. Healing can be a long arduous process. This art print serves as a reminder that regardless of the "sins" we've endured we can stand empowered. We are sovereign, dark, majestic, beautiful beings regardless of what has happened. We can twist the ugliness of this world and turn it into something beautiful, if we so choose.

I am a mother
To my inner child.
I will nurture her with
A gentle hand
And feed her kind words
And loving touch.
I will take her on the adventures
She dreamed of
Sitting on the swing in the
Back garden each summer
Wishing she was
By the sea.
I will cook her favourite meals
And give her extra desert
And dust the dirt
From her knees when
She falls.
I am a mother to my inner child
And I will be good to her.
