Verse recs for combating lust?

The Pharisees and Sadducees Demand Signs
1 The Pharisees also with the Sadducees came, and tempting desired him that he would shew them a sign from heaven.
2 He answered and said unto them, When it is evening, ye say, It will be fair weather: for the sky is red.
3 And in the morning, It will be foul weather to day: for the sky is red and lowering. O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times?
4 A wicked and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given unto it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas. And he left them, and departed.
5 And when his disciples were come to the other side, they had forgotten to take bread.
6 Then Jesus said unto them, Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees.
7 And they reasoned among themselves, saying, It is because we have taken no bread.
8 Which when Jesus perceived, he said unto them, O ye of little faith, why reason ye among yourselves, because ye have brought no bread?
9 Do ye not yet understand, neither remember the five loaves of the five thousand, and how many baskets ye took up?
10 Neither the seven loaves of the four thousand, and how many baskets ye took up?
11 How is it that ye do not understand that I spake it not to you concerning bread, that ye should beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees?
12 Then understood they how that he bade them not beware of the leaven of bread, but of the doctrine of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees.
13 When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am?
14 And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets.
15 He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?
16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.
17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.
18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
20 Then charged he his disciples that they should tell no man that he was Jesus the Christ.
21 From that time forth began Jesus to shew unto his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day.
22 Then Peter took him, and began to rebuke him, saying, Be it far from thee, Lord: this shall not be unto thee.
23 But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men.
24 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
25 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.
26 For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
27 For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works.
28 Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom. — Matthew 16 | King James Version (KJV) The King James Version Bible is in the public domain Cross References: Job 34:11; Psalm 42:2; Psalm 49:8; Psalm 129:2; Proverbs 26:5; isaiah 22:22; Isaiah 57:3; Jeremiah 1:1; Matthew 1:16; Matthew 3:7; Matthew 4:10; Matthew 5:20; Matthew 6:30; Matthew 8:20; Matthew 10:38-39; Matthew 12:40; Matthew 14:17; Matthew 14:20; Matthew 21:25; Mark 8:15; Luke 9:18; Luke 12:54; Luke 12:56; John 1:42; John 12;25; Revelation 3:7

does the Bible say marriage is only one man and one woman? I’ve been seeing some controversy about that on my dash and some saying the scripture was never clear about that.
The Bible could not be more clear about this. Marriage is rooted in the created order. Genesis 2:24
For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.
Jesus affirms that design in Mark 10:6-7 citing God's created order of marriage between a man and woman committing to each other until death is not meant to be broken. God wants this relationship to be completely pure, no third parties involved, not even in the thought life which He considers adultery of the heart (Matt 5:28). Proverbs 5 warns to be faithful to the wife of your youth and not go straying into relationships with adulterous women.
This design of God is good because He is good. Humanity cannot exist without this design. Man and woman getting together is how human beings are born. It doesn't work any other way. Nature makes it obvious, but our sinful opposition to God makes us pursue unnatural desires
Romans 1:24-28
Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen. For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error. And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind to do what ought not to be done.
God hates unfaithfulness in marriage and the corruption of His design because He created marriage to reflect His own goodness.
Ephesians 5:31-32
"Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.” This mystery is profound, and I am saying that it refers to Christ and the church.
Paul, quoting God's created order in Genesis 2, says that the relationship between a husband and wife shows us what Christ has done for His Church. Christ nourishes and cherishes those who believe in Him and gave up His life for them, and the Church loves and honors Him.
When we say marriage doesn't really matter and can mean whatever we want it to mean we are saying God's love does not endure forever, that we do not need Him to provide for us and we do not need to honor Him. We can be our own gods and find love in our own ways. You cannot have love without God because God is love (1 John 4:16).
Love becomes entirely about me and what I want instead of sacrificing and serving for someone else. That self-centered world is how we create our own destruction.

THOUGHTS:
======================
What does faithful mean to you? I can say faithful means loyal, dependable, and consistent. That’s what that means to me when I hear the word faithful. I used to diet a lot, and I would eat everything healthy. I would hardly eat any chocolate things of that nature because I had a goal in mind, so I would go to the gym, workout 6 days a week, strength train, and meal prep I did It all I wanted to lose a bunch of weight, but as I got burnt out, I would slowly eat things I shouldn’t , like ice cream and other things, and I started going to the gym less, so I became not so inconsistent but slowly lost the love I had for dieting and the drive because I did it for so long, I got burnt out.
This is just like our spiritual life when we read our word and pray. We do things we should do to maintain our spiritual growth, and we learn to stay faithful. We learn that, that’s what we must do to stay faithful. We must push through the hard times and not get burned out, but sometimes, even in this, we get burned out because we don’t allow ourselves to do this in his strength; we do it in our strength, and that’s what causes us to burn out, we become less consistent, and we become less driven to stay in the fight. Still, God wants us to know that we must remain faithful and consistent, and no matter if we don’t, he will always be dependable because that’s who he is in our lives.
1 John 5:5 Who is it that overcomes the world except the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?
We can overcome burnout and what's happening because we believe in Jesus. Many of us lose hope because we see what this world has, but they don’t have anything on us. They might seem to have the upper hand right now and seem like they are winning, but they aren’t. But we must stay faithful regardless of what's happening around us.
Psalm 44:18 Our heart has not turned back, nor have our steps departed from your way;
David said he hadn’t turned back, nor has he departed; from the ways of God, it is easy to depart from God. It was easy for me to quit my diet and start doing what I wanted to do, but what would’ve been better if I stayed in it and pushed through the tough times and not lose heart? But we must have a want to do this. We must have the drive to want to live for Jesus.
A lot of us don’t want to live for Jesus because we think it's easier doing what we want, but God wants us to know that we must remain faithful we must, push through the hard times, and not falter because we feel we can't make it we have to push through in his strength be accurate with Jesus and say, Jesus, I am failing, Jesus I am having a hard time
The reason why we are burnt out is because we are do things in our way and our strength; we think because we are so strong, we can do it ourselves; and we are too busy allowing everyone’s opinions to run our lives, we let them say oh you can do this or oh you don’t need anybody, or oh your independent but let me tell you something friends we are weak. We can’t do it on our own; we are not strong enough to do anything by ourselves; the only way to get through prayer without distraction is in his strength; the only way to make it through the day in holiness is through Him , burnout happens when we try to conquer every mountain by ourselves.
Sometimes, in our burnout, we allow our hearts to turn and our steps to depart his ways. Because we are allowing what we feel to get in the way of having emotions, and to feel isn’t the problem; it’s the way we do it; it’s the way we allow our emotions to run our life, and we don’t allow God to check our emotions they will steer us wrong. Sometimes, the enemy will place situations at our door to get us to acknowledge how we feel , because he wants us to be bitter, filled with rage, and anger, but we can’t allow them to surface, which causes us to steer away.
The Holy Spirit today is speaking to someone; he’s saying your burnout because you allow the enemy to take over your emotions; your burnout because you're not feeding your spirit man the way you should; he said your burnout because you let situational things to determine your life, he said you should stop and turn around and allow me to your strength you , you need to allow me to be your everything in your time of burnout.
***Today we talked about burnout, and a lot of us deal with this and don’t know how to let go of it; some of us deal with it, but we just kind of let it rest in our life, but God wants us to let go of the season we are in he wants us to come back and rest in him a lot of us don’t know how to do that because we have gotten comfortable in our problems we have gotten comfortable in this season we’re in and to get out burnout we must hand everything over to God.
Proverbs 14:14 The backslider in heart will be filled with the fruit of his ways and a good man will be filled with the fruit of his ways
We can’t allow our burnout to let us backslide. We can’t allow our burnout to conduct our spiritual life because if we do, we won’t come out of this loop hold until we trust in God; that’s what it boils down to: do you trust in God? Do you allow him to be the conductor of your life? Do you allow him to help you during your rough season? Seasons can come and go, but some seasons stay longer because we don’t know how to move through them. If you feel this, is you, ask God to help you through this season of your life.

Lord, we thank you for everything you have done in our lives and ask you to help us through this season. Good morning World Daily Devotionals for November 17, 2024
Proverbs: God's Wisdom for Daily Living
Devotional Scripture:
Proverbs 28:10-12 (KJV): 10 Whoso causeth the righteous to go astray in an evil way, he shall fall himself into his own pit: but the upright shall have good things in possession. 11 The rich man is wise in his own conceit; but the poor that hath understanding searcheth him out. 12 When righteous men do rejoice, there is great glory: but when the wicked rise, a man is hidden. Proverbs 28:10-12 (AMP): 10 Whoever leads the upright astray into an evil way, he will himself fall into his own pit, but the blameless will have a goodly inheritance. 11 The rich man is wise in his own eyes and conceit, but the poor man who has understanding will find him out. 12 When the (uncompromisingly) righteous triumph, there is great glory and celebration; but when the wicked rise (to power), men hide themselves.
Thought for the Day
Verse 10 – Pay attention to the reckless investments of those who remain upright and have a good inheritance but those who cause the righteous to go astray are warned that they will fall into their own pit. Those who peddle drugs, evil and nonsensical merchandise fall into this category as they squander their money and disregard the poor and suffering of others. Offering cigarettes to children or teaching them to dishonor their parents is another example of causing the innocent to go astray. Men who exploit children and young adults by using them for pornography and evil doing are in a class of unspeakable wickedness deserving death.
"And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me. But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it was better for him that a millstone was hanged about his neck, and that he was drowned in the depth of the sea. Woe unto the world because of offences! for it must needs be that offences come; but woe to that man by whom the offence cometh!" (Matthew 18:5-7).
Verse 11 - Rich men can easily become conceited, as we are witnessing today. Many think they are invincible, believing their money will buy them out of any situation or establish a nonsensical goal. However, a poor person who follows God has a greater advantage than the rich man does. The Lord will give poor men who listen to Him the understanding and wisdom that they need to thwart the schemes of the wealthy. Evil men throughout the ages have used their money and power for selfish and wicked agendas. Does not our politics usher the same thing in today as well? The Lord can strip positions and power from those who abuse them. "For promotion cometh neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south. But God is the judge: he putteth down one, and setteth up another" (Psalm 75:6-7).
Verse 12 - People openly rejoice under righteous leaders, knowing they are safe, but the wicked are cruel and vengeful. Any power that they gain will be used to damage, ruin, or even kill people who oppose them. Men hide themselves when wicked rulers are in charge, to protect themselves and their belongings.
Prayer Devotional for the Day
Dear heavenly Father, we thank you for those good and righteous leaders in our businesses, in our cities and in our nations. Lord, remove those who are wicked, so that righteousness might reign in the earth. Father, cleanse our societies of those who prey on the weak, the helpless, and the innocent children. Deliver us from evil. May Your kingdom come in the earth, as it is in heaven. Hallowed be Thy name, and in the name of Jesus I pray. Amen. 11/17/2024 4:18:46 AM Jacksonville, Florida USA From: Steven P. Hebrews 10:19-23 (NLT). [19] “And so, dear brothers and sisters, we can boldly enter heaven’s Most Holy Place because of the blood of Jesus. [20] By his death, Jesus opened a new and life-giving way through the curtain into the Most Holy Place. [21] And since we have a great High Priest who rules over God’s house, [22] let us go right into the presence of God with sincere hearts fully trusting him. For our guilty consciences have been sprinkled with Christ’s blood to make us clean, and our bodies have been washed with pure water. [23] Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise.”
“The Promises of God” By In Touch Ministries:
“How do we know which part of God's Word applies to our current situation?”
“God made many promises in the Bible. But there is confusion among Christians about which verses we can claim as a definite commitment from Him. Three questions are useful in determining whether divine promises apply to our personal situation:
Is this promise limited to a specific individual or circumstance, or does it apply to all believers? For example, the pledge made to Abraham and Sarah about the birth of their child (Genesis 18:10) is restricted to them. But Hebrews 13:5 contains a guarantee to all Christians that Jesus will be with them forever.
Are we asking the Lord to meet a need or a desire? A need is something that we must have in order for God to complete His work in our life. A desire is something we want for satisfaction.
Before fulfilling a promise, does God require some action on our part? Proverbs 3:5-6 is a conditional promise, which pledges God’s direction on the basis of our trust in Him. On the other hand, Jesus’ assurance of His presence with believers is unconditional; it does not depend on anything we do (Matthew 28:20).
By evaluating Scripture on the basis of these questions, we’re able to know which promises apply to our own circumstances. And remember: As 2 Corinthians 1:20 (NIV) says, “No matter how many promises God has made, they are ‘Yes’ in Christ.”

97. Oh, how I love your law! I meditate on it all day long. (For I delight in your commands because I love them. Psalms 119:47 NIV)
(PRAISE THE LORD! Blessed is the man who fears the Lord, who greatly delights in his commandments! Psalms 112:1ESV)
(PRAISE THE LORD! Praise God in his sanctuary; Praise him in his mighty heaven. Psalms 150:1 ESV)
98. Your commands make me wiser than my enemies for they are ever with me. (Keep them and do them, for that will be your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the peoples, who, when they hear all these statutes, will say, "Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people." Deuteronomy 4:6 ESV)
(And keep the charge of the Lord your God, walking in his ways and keeping his statutes, his commandments, his rules, and his testimonies, as it is written in the law of Moses, that you may prosper in all that you do and whatever you turn. 1st Kings 2:3 ESV)
(Only be strong and very courageous, being careful to do according to all the law of Moses my servant commanded you. Do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may have good success wherever you go. Joshua 1:7 ESV)
99. I have more insight than all my teachers, for I meditate on your statutes. (I meditate on your precepts and consider your ways. Psalms 119:15 NIV)
(My eyes are awake before the watches of the night, that I may meditate on your promise. Psalms 19:148 ESV)
(When I remember you upon my bed, and metate on you in the watches of the night. Psalms 63:3 ESV)
100. I have more understanding than the elders for I obey your precepts. (You shall diligently keep the commandments of the Lord your God, and his testimonies and his statutes, which he has commanded you. Deuteronomy 6:17 ESV)
(If you walk in my statutes and observe my commandments and do them. Leviticus 26:3 ESV)
(Because Abraham obeyed my voice and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws. Genesis 26:5 ESV)
101. I have kept my feet from every evil path so that I might obey your word. (My son does not walk in the way with them; hold back your foot from their paths. Proverbs 1:15 ESV)
(Do not enter the path of the wicked, and do not walk in the way of the evil. Proverbs 4:14 ESV)
(Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers. Psalms 1:1 ESV)
102. I have not departed from your laws, for you yourself have taught me. (That his heart may not be lifted up above his brother, and that he may not turn aside from the commandments either to the right hand or the left, so that he may continue long in his kingdom he and his children in Israe. Deuteronomy 17: 20 ESV)
(Therefore, be very strong to keep and to do all that is written in the book of the law of Moses, turning aside from it neither to the right hand nor the left. Joshua 23:6 ESV)
(Every sickness also and every affliction that us not recorded in the book of this law, the Lord will bring upon you, until you are destroyed. Deuteronomy 28:61 ESV)
103. How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth! (More to be desired are they then gold, even much fine gold, sweeter also than honey and drippings from the honeycomb. Psalms 19:10 ESV)
If you lay gold in the dust, and gold of Ophir among the stones of the torrent-bed, then the Almighty will be your gold and your precious silver. Job 22:24-25 ESV)

(Keep them and do them, for that will be your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the peoples, who, when they hear all these statutes, will say, "Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people." Deuteronomy 4:6 ESV)
(Therefore, keep the words of his covenant and do them, that you may prosper in all that you do. Deuteronomy 29:9 ESV)
