"THE BENEFITS OF FASTING"

WHY DO WE FAST? There are different kind of fasts. There are private fasts that you do privately: Matthew 6:16-18, “And whenever you are fasting, do not look gloomy and sour and dreary like the hypocrites, for they put on a dismal countenance, that their fasting may be apparent to and seen by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full already. But when you fast, perfume your head…

I am feeling very hurt today.

For context, I went to high school in well-off, suburban Utah, although I didn't grow up there. My family still lives there. It's a VERY Mormon- and white-dominated location.

Last night, I was on the phone with my mom, just catching up, making plans for the weekend, the typical Phone Home Because Your Mom Misses You.

She told me that there were plans to build a warming shelter for the homeless in the town. I was excited -- I'd just been to a workshop about homelessness, and me and my friends had exchanged some heartfelt stories about our experiences with homeless friends, family, ward members, et cetera. But then she followed it up by telling me that many folks in the town were strongly against it -- mad that there would be a warming shelter in the town, yelling about it on Facebook groups, protesting at city council meetings. None of them wanted a warming shelter in their town. Hundreds of people, upset.

I've never felt more disheartened. Over half of the people in that town are members of the Church. The chances that there were Mormons at that city council meeting, yelling angrily about a warming shelter are astronomically high.

What God are they following?

What Christ did they get baptized to?

What scriptures do they read? Did they not get the chance to read Proverbs 19:17, Matthew 25:35-36, Luke 3:11, James 2:15-16, 1 John 3:17, Deuteronomy 15:11, Psalms 82:3-4, Proverbs 14:31, Isaiah 58:10, Mosiah 4:16-26, Alma 34:28-29, Mosiah 18:28-30, 3 Nephi 12:3, or Jacob 2:13-17?

What commandments are they following? What "love one another" do they ascribe to?

What has the name of Christ become in this day and age?

The devil turning evil into good and good into evil has never been so obvious. What perversion of gospel principles can possibly lead someone to riot against a warming shelter -- not even a homeless shelter? A place for people to stay alive in the blistering cold.

"Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me." The 'members' that have fought against this have, effectively, spit in the face of the Lord. Where has Christlike compassion gone?

THOUGHTS:

    Being humble is something we all must do when it comes to going before God, and a lot of times, it’s hard to humble ourselves because we are used to being a certain way. We are used to doing certain things, but the most significant way to humble ourselves is fast.

 Fasting is the most selfless thing we can do because we are telling God that food isn’t what we live for. It’s you who I live for. The Bible says this man doesn’t live by bread alone but by every word that comes out of the mouth of God.

  But when we fast, the Bible gives us strict instructions: “Matthew 6:16-18 And when you fast, do not look gloomy like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces so that others may see their fasting. Honestly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, your fasting may not be seen by others but by your father, who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.”

 See, the Bible tells us when we are fasting not to make it known but to go ahead and do what we must throughout our day. When we do this in secret, we will be awarded, and for the ones that fast in the open and allow everyone to know they are fasting, you got your reward; your reward was in you telling everyone you're on a fast

  Some people look at fasting as good works or something to applaud someone for, and when we do this, we are rewarded by the applauds of others and by the pats on the back; we have to understand that fasting is something that will get Gods attention, it will show him that your sacrificing food to draw near to him fasting is showing him that, you desire to know him more, fasting is an intimate moment between you and God.

  Psalm 69:10 When I weep and fast, I must endure scorn;

   Many people won't understand why you are fasting. We will have people make fun of us, say ugly things, and be cruel, but when we fast, we aren’t doing it for people. That’s why this goes back to the verse in Matthew: don’t tell a single soul what you are doing because people are going to see it, they won't understand it, so then what you must do is explain it to them.

    That’s precisely why we shouldn’t tell people what we are doing; some people say a water fast is better, some say a fruit fast is better, some say eating nothing is better, but whatever you can do on a fast is okay with God if your beginner it's even best to do a half of a day but whatever you do unto God do it in secret and ask God what do he want you to do and always do it with a contrite heart.

  •Luke 4:2 For forty days, being tempted by the devil. And he ate nothing during those days. And when they were ended, he was hungry.

•Matthew 4:4 But he answered, “It is written, “‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”

 •Isaiah 58:3: ‘Why have we fasted, and you see it not? Why have we humbled ourselves, and you take no knowledge of it?’ Behold, in the day of your fast, you seek your pleasure and oppress all your workers.

    Each of these verses is about fasting; you can see Jesus went on a no-food, no-water fast, and it says that we don’t live by bread alone. We live by the word, and when we fast, we are sustained by God, not by our works, nor by fasting, but because we are relying on God to take care of our needs and not food; the other verse lets us know when we do this we are humbling ourselves, we must humble ourselves if we want to grow in God and draw closer to him and when we fast the Holy Spirit can break chains and destroy yokes people of God, we must fast, a lot of people don’t want to fast, but fasting is critical, to growing in God more.

  Joel 2:12 Yet even now,” declares the Lord, “return to me with all your heart, with fasting, with weeping, and with mourning.

    This is precisely what God is asking us to do: go back to him with weeping, mourning, and FASTING because when we do this, it’s done with a contrite heart. Many people fast so they can let go of things they are struggling with, like yokes, but when we fast to show off and this” look at me kind of way”, we won’t grow at all, and we won’t change. Still, God wants us to draw near to him with a humble heart; it’s hard to be humble; sometimes it is it’s hard to be humble and let go of what we desire, but when we are humble, that’s when God sees us.

  ***Today, we learned how to be humble, and one of the ways to do this is fasting; another way is drawing near; a lot of times, we fast, and we do it wrong, or we do partial fasting because we aren’t dedicated to breaking free from what we want. Still, God wants us to have a contrite heart and depend on him alone; fasting can change who we are and our relationship with him.

  We don’t have to struggle with our burdens with our fleshly ways because we say, " I know you can change me; I know you can break this in my life. Sometimes, we under estimate God because we feel there’s no way he knows how I’m feeling, but he does. When Jesus was on his fast, he drew away and was led by the Holy Spirit; when this happened immediately, he was tempted by the devil. It sounds familiar: we can be doing good on our fast, and here comes the enemy to tempt us to break our fast, but just like Jesus, we must be strong and deny the enemy by using the word of God. If you ever feel alone, discouraged, and overwhelmed, remember Jesus is there for you; all we must do is humble ourselves and pray. ©Seer~ Prophetess Lee

Ten Reasons Why the Sabbath is Not Jewish:

1) Adam and Eve were not Jewish. “God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it” (Genesis 2:3) before sin entered. “Sanctified” means “to be set apart for holy use.” The only ones in the Garden of Eden for whom the Sabbath was “set apart” were Adam and Eve, who weren’t Jewish.

2) “The Sabbath was made for man.” Mark 2:27. Jesus said this. It was “made” in the Garden of Eden before it was “written” down on Mount Sinai. The Sabbath was “made” for “man,” not just Jews.

3) The other nine commandments are not “just for Jews.” God wrote “Ten Commandments” on stone, not just nine (See Deut. 4:12, 13; Ex. 20). Does “Do not commit adultery,” “Do not murder,” “Do not steal,” and “Do not bear false witness” apply only to Jews?

4) “The seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord thy God.” Exodus 20:10. God calls the Sabbath, “my holy day.” Isaiah 58:13. The Bible never calls it “the Sabbath of the Jews.” It isn’t their Sabbath, but God’s.

5) The Sabbath commandment is for the “stranger” too. The fourth commandment itself says the “stranger” is to rest on the Sabbath. Exodus 20:10. “Strangers” are non-Jews, or Gentiles. Thus the Sabbath applies to them too. Read also Isaiah 56:6.

6) Isaiah said Gentiles should keep the Sabbath. “Also the sons of the stranger … every one that keeps the Sabbath … for mine house shall be called an house of prayer for all people .” Isaiah 56:6, 7. Thus the Sabbath is for Gentiles and “all people,” not just for Jews.

7) “All” mankind will keep the Sabbath in the New Earth. In “the new earth … from one Sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, says the Lord.” Isaiah 66:22, 23. Here God says that “all flesh” we will be keeping the Sabbath in “the new earth.” If this is the case – and it is – shouldn’t we start now?

8) Gentiles kept the Sabbath in the Book of Acts. “The Gentiles besought that these words might be preached to them the next Sabbath … Paul and Barnabas … persuaded them to continue in the grace of God.”‘ Acts 13:42, 43. Here saved-by-grace Gentiles kept the Sabbath (see also verse 44).

9) “The law” [of Ten Commandments] is for “all the world,” not just for Jews. Paul wrote these words. Read Romans 2:17-23; 3:19, 23.

10) Luke was a Gentile who kept the Sabbath. Luke was the only Gentile who wrote any New Testament books (he wrote The Gospel According to St. Luke and The Acts of the Apostles). Luke traveled with Paul and wrote, “On the Sabbath we went out of the city by a river side.” Acts 16:13. It was the seventh-day Sabbath, the memorial of the creation (see Ex. 20:11). Both Luke and Paul knew it.

Cross In The Heavens - September 25, 2023

"Then I will send rain on your land in its season, both autumn and spring rains, so that you may gather in your grain, new wine, and olive oil. I will provide grass in the fields for your cattle, and you will eat and be satisfied." - Deuteronomy 11:14-15

Many of us have recently undergone an intense time with a lot of warfare and opposition. However, even amidst the very opposition we may have experienced, the Lord was strengthening us. We will be found coming up out of our wilderness season, leaning on our Beloved (see Song of Songs 8:5). His desire during that time was to prepare and establish us for the new oil and abundance that He is getting ready to pour out.

PREPARED FOR THE NEW

The Lord does not waste our pain. Through the stretching and trials we have endured, we have been made stronger. We are now prepared for the "new" that He is ready to entrust us with.

Mark 2:22 says that, "No one pours new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise, the wine will burst the skins, and both the wine and the wineskins will be ruined. No, they pour new wine into new wineskins."

We are becoming new wineskins in this very hour in order that we may be able to contain the new, fresh wine and steward the increase well. "Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life" - Proverbs 13:12. The Lord is reviving weary hearts back to life, and He is healing hope deferred. The hardness of the previous season has lifted, and we entering into a time of singing and rejoicing!

"See! The winter is past; the rains are over and gone. Flowers appear on the earth; the season of singing has come, the cooing of doves is heard in our land. The fig tree forms its early fruit; the blossoming vines spread their fragrance. Arise, come, My darling; My beautiful one, come with Me" - Song of Songs 2:11-13.

The Lord sends rains that will wash away the pain, weariness, and heartache from the previous seasons that you've experienced. "You gave abundant showers, O God; You refreshed Your weary inheritance. Your people settled in it, and from Your bounty, God, You provided for the poor" - Psalm 68:9-10. "Then your light will break forth like the dawn, and your healing will quickly appear; then your righteousness will go before you, and the glory of the Lord will be your rear guard." - Isaiah 58:8

Many have continued to stand and contend for God's promises even in the midst of great, personal pain and misunderstanding. "Lift your eyes, O weary ones, for your redemption draws near" - Luke 21:28b. Not for a moment has the Lord left your side or forsaken you. The Lord is our burden bearer, and even now, He is breaking chains that have sought to keep us bound. Our Father is removing those heavy burdens that have weighed down His children. Be encouraged! Our Savior has seen every tear that you have ever cried, and He is rushing on the scene like a mighty warrior.

"Yahweh is a warrior, Yahweh is His Name" Exodus 15:3. The Lord is strong and mighty in battle. He is bringing His beloved Bride into a season of great refreshing. For where you were previously not able to let down because of the consistent battle, now you will be able to rest and drink deeply of the Holy Spirit's ongoing guidance.  He, Himself, is fighting for you!

REFINED BY FIRE, REFRESHED BY RAINS

You have come through the fire of the last season, forged and refined like the gold, and you are about ready to see and experience a season of fruit bearing that remains for God's ever-advancing Kingdom.  What He is ready to release in your life is revelation that will move you forward in your Christ calling.

John the Baptist Prepares the Way

1 In the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, Pontius Pilate being governor of Judea, and Herod being tetrarch of Galilee, and his brother Philip tetrarch of the region of Ituraea and Trachonitis, and Lysanias tetrarch of Abilene, 2 during the high priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas, the word of God came to John the son of Zechariah in the wilderness. 3 And he went into all the region around the Jordan, proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. 4 As it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet,

“The voice of one crying in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight. 5 Every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be made low, and the crooked shall become straight, and the rough places shall become level ways, 6 and all flesh shall see the salvation of God.’”
