Het wemelt in Moerwijk (dan ook) van de professionals die gezondheid als het hoogste goed zien en preventie als laaghangend fruit: minder roken, meer bewegen en gezonder eten. Bij veel bewoners roept dat de vraag op van wie hun gezondheid is. Want vrijwel niemand van de onderzoekers komt zelf uit de stad, laat staan uit de wijk. De onderzoeksvragen en de plannen worden geformuleerd en gesmeed op de tekentafel. De Moerwijker komt pas in beeld bij het zoeken naar antwoorden. A positive slant on my life
Living through trauma isn’t easy, but how we see our experiences through the other end is important. No matter how negative my experiences or life was, it was important I didn’t sugar coat those, in terms of my mental health; it was important I was able to stay present and positive.
A Positive Mental Attitude allows you to assert yourself positively, so that no matter the situation your positive disposition attracts positive change.
Anyone who is mentally positive will always seek to find and execute ways, to put a positive slant on what could be very negative circumstances and to find a desirable outcome for themselves. How we come through the other end is important.
Seeing and having a positive slant on your situation, doesn’t mean we dismiss what’s happening to us or that what happened didn’t happen. Those things will still be part of our experiences, but it will allow us to take a more balanced approach on what we deal with.
I could either continue to think positively on my trauma, or I could continue to see my trauma negatively and that would negatively impact my mental health. Being positive, carried me through my experiences, through my life. No matter what I dealt with around a disability I didn’t know I had, I always put a positive slant on things.
Putting a positive slant on our experiences, doesn’t take away the initial deed, what’s been done is done, but it will always allow us to focus on and look for the positives and that helps us come through the other end with a more positive disposition.

A couple reminders to those struggling- you are not alone ♡ I always struggle with feeling lonely, isolated, and disconnected from my reality. Even around my friends and family, it can be hard to relate to society. My eating disorder pushed me to escape my life whenever it got hard because i was convinced I didn't deserve a good life and I didn't think I could handle it. I realize as I go along and improvise living my life, that i would regret not even trying to put up the fight. This may always be a struggle for me, a boundary I'm going to try to break daily. But at least i know- I am not alone in this. There are people out there fighting battles just as hard as me, and harder. I can fight for them. And i can fight for myself.

April is stress awareness month. Be mindful of how you feel and don’t let your stress become too much to manage. Taking care of yourself daily is the best way to handle stress. So we would like to give you some tips to keep your stress level under control. 1. Daily “Me time” Daily dose of “me time” is important. Set some time for yourself in every day to do something that you like. Make it be the time for you to enjoy fully of what you’re doing: reading, drawing, cooking, watching TV, listening to music, or just resting. All is good as long as it’s your enjoyable time. 💛 2. Being in present Regular practice of mindfulness is one of the most effective ways to de-stress. Bring your naughty mind to focus on “here and now” and be still for a little while. Breathe deeply and just be in the moment. 🧘‍♀️ 3. Talk it out Simple as that. Just saying it out can help already to de-stress. Talk to someone that you feel comfortable to do so, someone close to you or a community you can trust (like our EMHO!) 💙 4. Keep moving Exercises help the brain to release the “feel-good” hormones, which will rebalance your feelings & emotions. "Same Period, Different Years"... . Gisteren was ik door oude foto's aan het bladeren op Zena's telefoon. Het blijft confronterend om jezelf terug te zien op mooie herinneringen maar moeilijke tijden. De bovenste foto is van april 2017. Op dat moment was ik net in behandeling en had ik net mijn eerste chemo gehad. Het verdriet is letterlijk in mijn ogen te zien. Op de linker foto was het vorig jaar net bekend gemaakt dat ik een half jaar in stabiele was. Mijn tumor en uitzaaiingen bleken zelf nog steeds te krimpen, ondanks dat ik niet meer in behandeling was sinds oktober 2017. De derde foto heb ik genomen om te vieren dat ik al anderhalf jaar niet in behandeling ben met voorlopig nog steeds mooie resultaten. Ik heb de regie zelf in handen kunnen nemen...
