Specifically "cracked clean slate". A clean slate is a fresh start, what happens when its cracked? Was it already cracked when it was handed to you, not really a clean state, there was still all the pressure and all the expectation of perfection weighing on you? Did you crack it? Was it a faulty slate and you were never gonna be able to reach that perfection because it was never possible to begin with?

Also all those hard sounds, laquered claws, cracked clean, its so evocative of hard unyielding surfaces and also them breaking at the same time.

And everyone is the hero of their own story, "I am the villain in every story" you dont even get to see yourself as your own hero.

This song - Portrait of Us, by Seven Spires - I initially assumed it was a jilted lover kind of song, but then listening again, and then when the music video released, this is a song of bitterness at ones parents for unrealistic pressures and expectations.

The refrain mostly in the background

"Am I your carbon copy

Am I your unborn son"

Its chilling. Am I supposed to be exactly like you? Did I fail the moment I was born for being a daughter?

It might specifically be angry at ones father actually. Because of

"I am a portrait of you,

me, and

Her eyes sparkle in illustrated firelight

While yours are wide in apprehension"

This is towards the end of the song (the bridge maybe?). The mother is eyes sparkling she seems fine, while dad is apprehensive at all this pain and rage being expressed at him.

More thoughts that arent quite in words yet about portraits and "pain and blame and judgement are stored in your reflection" the kid isnt at fault they reflect the parenting something along those lines.

Also its just incredibly catchy and rhythmic and fun.
