What many do not realize as you have mentioned, that truly working to blend in is its own work of art. To be able to actively manipulate the curtains of life, pull and close them when you please. Then to unfurl them wide open, presenting a performance is the exact way you catch the attention of others. The way you have control to dictate what you would like them to see and what you would not. You can shock all those to watch, but fostering a false sense of attachment to you is the best way to know you can do whatever you please and still always be held in a high sense of self by others around. Being the villain of the story is not standing out, it's simply becoming a part of the background. The unknown is in your hands to work with and manipulate, they will never see when you strike. And when you do you can blend back into the darkness and disappear like smoke.
Something the Hannibal television show does phenomenally, that the books and movies don’t really do at all, is showcase how well he actually blends in.
In the Thomas Harris works, every scene that Doctor Lecter is in manages to make it very clear that he’s dangerous, and everyone else is basically Damocles without being aware of the blade. He’s unsettling even when he’s charming, and the audience is always aware that he is the lion in the room. We can see the swords dangling by the hair over every other character.
But in the show, Hannibal is just a guy, maybe pretentious and nerdy, but charming and kind for the most part. We are taken in with him, just like the other characters. Then, when he does lash out, moving like the predator he is, we’re left absolutely shook, almost ashamed that for a moment we forgot who he is. In the next scene, he’s as soft and charming as ever, and the deception begins again. We slowly fall under the spell again, because he’s just that good. We experience what the characters do, even though we’re granted the behind the scenes knowledge that he’s the villain of the story.

It’s really funny being a system that renames everything. Like, hello! Welcome to our complex. We all have very important functions. I’m the vanguard, and some other adaptants are near the anterior, like incarnates and vexes. We don’t pivot very often, but we would love to meet all of you!

i remember in 2020 or smth a lot of people were calling themselves polyfragmented systems, and then explaining that it was when you have 100+ alters
i was one of the people that were brainwashed into that belief (as well as many others but i'm better now), and finding out that that's actual at NOT what polyfragmented means is crazy to me
being polyfragmented means your system is primarily made up of fragmented alters, aka not fully formed AND high amnesia barriers. i know we only have a few fragments in our system, they don't even have names nor proper pronouns. only one of them actually has a "name" but someone just gave it that name to dehumanize it—
Tumblr media
looking back on all of those videos of people saying they're polyfragmented while having seemingly well identified alters/fragments makes me realize just how many people back then were misled😭😭
ik it's a stupid revaluation like "no shit ozzy a lot of people in 2020 were misled" but i mean as in im STILL discovering things we were lied to about

being a system dating two other systems is so cool. like. we all understand. we get it. that’s so beautiful to me. we can all be authentic and not worry about hiding parts of ourselves. more systems should date systems. plural4plural

it is genuinely the funniest fucking shit when a sysmed comes onto OUR posts, fakeclaiming us, being a giant piece of shit, and then we reply with literal PARAGRAPHS of proof that endogenic plurality is real, and then they block us 💀💀 like aww, did da wittle swysmwed weawize tat they hav no pwoof ?? awwwww 🥺🥺🥺
[plain text : aww, did the little sysmed realize that they have no proof ?? awwwww 🥺🥺]
like im sorry do NOT be commenting on our posts if you dont wanna catch these hands (and by hands, we mean peer reviewed, published papers about non disordered plurality from respected doctors that specialize in dissociation, OSDDID, and trauma)
so uhhh,,,, if you wanna get a sysmed to leave you alone, just tell them about dr. eric yarbrough, or dr's nijenhuis and van der hart, or the ICD-11, or the DSM-V-TR, or dr richard loewenstein, or a paper published by zarah eve, kim heyes, and sarah party called "Conceptualizing multiplicity spectrum experiences: A systematic review and thematic synthesis" ( https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1002/cpp.2910 ) or the acedemic article dating all the way back to 1991 that talks about non-disordered plurality (ross. 1991), or like. just reference the lived experiences of hundreds of people and ask them why they think their opinion is more valid then peoples lived experiences
if anyone wants us to make a post compiling all the sources we can find that prove endogenic plurality exists just let us know and we'll try !!! it'll definitely take us a while though lol

The regressive nature of sysmedicalism in regard to trauma survivors
Sysmedicalism is usually attributed to being directed towards endogenic systems in particular, but what happens when those beliefs are turned against the groups they wish to protect? Where does the line get drawn between the seemingly noble desire to stop misinformation and the outright witch-hunting of systems online?
As a system who has relabeled their identity after years of self-discovery, I have engaged with sysmed rhetoric from the side of an endogenic system as well as from that of a traumagenic one. Unfortunately, I continue to find myself negatively impacted by its effects even now. Despite being the very thing that would be recognized affirmatively in the eyes of a sysmed, I worry I still am not good enough.
This feeling of personal inadequacy is mixed with a sense of fear, a sinking dread of never fitting a diagnostic mold that will validate me in the eyes of my traumagenic peers. I have no reason to feel this way; I have a trauma history beginning in childhood and my therapist has affirmed the existence of both my system and the individual identities within. I have rushed after a CDD diagnosis to assuage my own fears when my treatment without one has yielded positive results regardless.
Why do I continue to feel this way? A large part of it is how online communities handle system origins. I find that in attempting to protect traumagenic and/or disordered systems, the medicalized plural community has inadvertently left scars on their own members. When encountering the level of vitriol often directed at non-traumagenic, “non-valid” system types it becomes very easy to develop a mindset of fear.
Sysmed rhetoric is inherently exclusionary. It promotes dichotomies fundamentally designed to separate:
Individuals as “valid” vs “invalid” Experiences as objective truths vs experiences as subjective realities “Them” vs “us”  The truth, of course, is that individual experiences are widely variable even within a clinical environment. Diagnostic criteria serve as guidelines but cannot hope to fully encompass the range of structures that function within it.
The hyperfocus on these comparisons is of course problematic, but it is especially so in a community full of traumatized individuals. Knowing that you will be turned on for not fitting a mold, feeling a growing anxiety at presenting yourself in an inoffensive manner, never speaking, behaving, or acting out of line. The need to fawn and placate for fear of harassment and abuse is a perpetuation of trauma cycles that many of us have experienced firsthand. More drastic results of sysmedicalism–fake-claiming and targeted harassment–come from a place of pain; a need to exert control over perceived threats real or imaginary.
We silence because we have been silenced.
We tell others they are not good enough because we have been made to feel not good enough.
We hurt because we have been hurt.
It is not my goal to attack or condemn others for feeling their feelings. What is my goal, however, is to invite plurals to approach one another more compassionately. Viewing my therapy process as personalized to my lived experiences has been incredibly healing when engaging with spaces that often push one-sided viewpoints. Trauma healing and mental health treatment is an individual, tailored process, and that is what we traumagenic plurals should be emphasizing.
