2010s feminism really fucked up when it all but accepted patriarchy as this naturally occurring phenomenon and not a system of power & domination that is reproduced in all levels of society from the family unit to schools to the workplace. It's conceded so much & has worked to legitimize the most alarming reactions men have to the current cultural moment. Like to me the tragedy of this is that it distracts from any systems-level conversation we could be having about what patriarchy does to children. Too often people neglect to discuss the fact that turning a boy into a patriarchal man is an emotionally, spiritually, and often physically violent process of stunting a child. The conversation about, say, how punishing boys for poorly regulating in schools impacts them later in life could be focused on contending with the ways certain types of discipline enacted on boys' and men's bodies and emotions are justified by the logic of patriarchy as applied across all levels of society. Instead, people would rather bioessentialize the behaviors, offer surface level critiques of the particularities of the American schooling system, and lay a significant amount of the blame on high achieving girls and women.
If people really gaf about not reproducing these types of dynamics they would take a long hard look at whether their feminist politics are really conducive to dismantling patriarchy from the family level up instead of cowing to the reactions themselves. Whether men eventually see that collaborating with women on moving forward is conducive to their collective well-being or not is entirely up to them, if you really care about pushing men in that direction the best way to do it is to stop validating the temper tantrums and keep your politics and rhetoric firmly focused on systems.
