Finding Balance: My Journey Through the Chakras
There was a time when I felt disconnected, scattered like leaves in the wind. My thoughts raced, my emotions swirled, and I struggled to find solid ground beneath my feet. That's when I discovered the ancient wisdom of the chakras, and through them, I learned to root myself like a willow tree – flexible yet unshakeable.
Grounding with the Root Chakra
My journey began where all journeys must – at the foundation. The root chakra. It sits at our base, governing our sense of safety and security. I remember the first time I truly connected with it, laying in hammock in a university courtyard beneath an old willow tree. As I watched its branches dance in the breeze, I noticed how deeply its roots must extend into the earth to support such movement.
I closed my eyes and imagined myself as that willow tree. With each breath, I sent my own energetic roots deeper into the earth, drawing up its stable, nurturing energy. Like the tree, I learned to sway with life's challenges while remaining firmly anchored. This practice became a daily ritual, transforming my relationship with the earth and my body.
Opening the Sacral Chakra: Permission to Play
For years, I had forgotten how to play. Somewhere between balancing grocery lists and adulthood. I had convinced myself that life wasn't supposed to be fun. My sacral chakra had become blocked, stifling my creativity and joy.
The breakthrough came during a rainy afternoon when I found myself alone in my living room. A favorite song came on, and instead of just listening while doing chores, I gave myself permission to dance. Really dance – wild, uninhibited movement that came from deep within. I twirled and jumped and laughed like I hadn't done since childhood. In that moment, I felt the sacral chakra burst open like a flower in bloom. Finding My Voice Through the Throat Chakra
Perhaps the most profound transformation came through working with my throat chakra, As a child, I had always been told to be quiet, to take up less space, to keep my thoughts to myself. These messages had lodged in my throat like stones, blocking the flow of my authentic expression.
Writing became my salvation. Late at night, when the world grew quiet, I would sit with my journal and let the words flow out into poetry. At first, they came as a trickle – hesitant and unsure. But gradually, the stream grew stronger. I wrote about my fears, my dreams, my anger, and my joy. Each word felt like a small act of rebellion and liberation, clearing the energetic blockages that had accumulated over years of silence.
Creating Harmony Through Balance
Working with the chakras taught me that balance isn't a destination – it's a daily practice. Like a symphony, each energy center needs to be tuned and attended to. Some days, I need to focus on grounding through my root chakra, while others call for the heart chakra's healing embrace or the crown chakra's connection to higher wisdom.
I've learned to recognize the signs when a chakra needs attention:
- When I feel scattered and anxious, I return to those willow tree roots.
- When life feels too serious, I turn on music and dance.
- When words feel stuck, I open my journal and let them flow.
The practice has become as natural as breathing. Each morning, I take time to scan my energy centers, feeling where attention is needed. Sometimes it's as simple as placing a hand over a chakra and breathing into it. Other times, it requires more focused work – meditation, movement, or creative expression.
The Ongoing Journey
Today, I stand taller, speak clearer, and laugh more freely. Like that willow tree, I've learned to bend without breaking, to stay rooted while reaching for the sky. The chakras have become my internal compass, guiding me back to balance when life pulls me off center.
To those beginning their own journey with the chakras, I offer this advice: start where you are. Listen to your body's wisdom. Trust that each small step – each grounding breath, each moment of play, each written word – is part of your path to wholeness.
For in the end, working with the chakras isn't about achieving perfection. It's about coming home to yourself, again and again, with patience, curiosity, and love.

Really liked how straightforward this video was and even offered a new take I've not heard and love, time blocking for parts or aspects of self-care. Further breaking down self-care into areas that might need attention is really smart for those who struggle to figure out what they need when in the moment of approaching, or at fatigue/burn out, or just have random free time but feel as if they don't know what to do with it to really benefit from it to feel actually refreshed from it.
I think i unconsciously started to do this when planning my week due to the concept i found within many neurodivergent guides and such that i'd come across, "task break down", which began invading every part of my life when i realized that thinking 1 thing was that and not the sum of many little things was the root of a lot of things going unattended to for me.
Giving myself more grace on less important things on my list and focusing on putting time aside to keep prioritizing my long list of goals, areas of interests, and basic to do's really helps me stay on top of keeping balance in my day to day, months, and years. Along with trying to keep some level of making down of what i'm doing which helps me see what's working and what didn't. I tend to also have a rough guide of a daily routine now that works for me but by allowing reworking to some level day to day as needed within the weeks progression/things changing/my own battery and needs shifting etc. helps me ALWAYS make some time for catering to parts of myself that foster self-love; compassion; growth; resilience; my discipline to continue consistently due to remembering my why which keeps any "work" in the tone of curiosity when approaching tasks, making them enjoyable (despite any possible level of difficulty); and to ensure i recharge regularly to reignite my passions due to allowing regular time for reconnecting with myself and values.
I think the best advice i found a few years back is learning how to work with your mind and lifestyle to make everything as fun as possible. IMHO, limiting time on things that don't actively bring much if any reward with them is key so you can figure out what your mind is really hunger for when reaching for that quick fix. Taking that information and self-examination into account, with brutal honesty, allows one to move forward to finally release that tension of feeling like any moment that thing you're running from is going to hit you with a hard truth. Facing it all head on, one step at a time will show you just how resilient you are and ready for anything. We don't need to live with extremes of none or all, we also need to figure out what that spectrum looks like for us and accept how we are, then who we are, and working with these things moving forward. Learning how to make life your own game where the levels have areas of focus important to you and your dreams makes everything fun again. You learn to see the work as a new level reached and the little steps on that as loot acquired. You connect more and more with your ideal self until you realize that you are molding yourself by every choice much like in a game. You don't feel like "dreams" and "ideals" are out of reach, but merely new chapters of the game unlocked for you to figure out how you'll achieve those too.
I'll try to write this sort of idea into a video soon but i just felt the need to rant since it is a new year and we are all trying to refocus ourselves, remember to keep pouring into your own cups so you can actually keep at those aspirations though. <3 prioritize taking care of yourself, even in ways that seem little.

There’s no such thing as work-life balance for neurodivergent & chronically ill people.
This is because everything in my life requires work:
maintaining friendships
keeping up with my hygiene
managing bills
making money
remembering my basic needs
sleeping regularly
outputting creatively
All requires some aspect of work for me.
And when everything in your life requires work, your balance goes out the window.
If you're neurodivergent and overwhelmed — I see you.
If you're chronically ill and overwhelmed — I see you.
You're not dysfunctional.
You're not incapable.
You're doing your best.

Start planning 2025
Make a list of all the emotions you want to feel at the end of 2025.
Now work backwards and write down all the tasks you need to do in order to feel that way.
Make a separate list of all the “gaps” - what do you currently not have in order to do those tasks to make you feel the way you want?
And lastly, write down how you can fill those gaps. Do you need a gym membership to become fit to feel good about your yourself? Do you need to learn how to cook better meals in order to feel healthy and energised? Do you need to start applying to jobs, in order to secure one, in order to feel financially safe? Do you need to buy an old school alarm clock that’s going to wake up your entire apartment building in order to wake up early? what do you need to DO?
also, make a list of all the things that worked out for you in 2024. Learn to celebrate and appreciate, even the smallest of wins.
For the next two months start the trial and error process of this program. Let’s say you decide that you want to work out 7 days a week in order to feel good about your body. Now halfway through November you realise that 7 days is probably too much, and 5 days would be better for your schedule. Or you decide to read 3 books a week, but realistically, maybe a chapter a day is better.
November and December are your trial months. By the time January starts, be ready with a program that is built for you, works for you, and can be completed by you.
Don’t forget about keeping a reward mechanism. If you complete your daily tasks for 1 month straight, buy that little purse you were eyeing, or take yourself to a spa. Reward yourself in ways you like so that :
a) you’re not in an endless cycle of never being satisfied
b) you don’t drop everything for a man or a friend who shows you the slightest bit of affection because you won’t show it to yourself
c) it encourages you to work harder for yourself.
