Teft has a falling out with Phendorana but realises they can't go more than five feet from eachother without damaging their bond. nvita (paraphrased): Was Phendorana's soul obliterated?
Brandon Sanderson (paraphrased): The soul of Phendorana wasn’t obliterated, and it could’ve reached the Beyond. Nothing can be obliterated in the cosmere. Things can be changed but not destroyed.

I think Ashaf has competition in the Little Bastard Man department. Johan really grabbed a stool and made his way to the necromancer's lair with it all while delaying his regeneration so he could do a dramatic reveal while the guy's back was turned
Johan and Ashaf are on opposite ends of the Dramatic Bastard Spectrum, Ashaf is distinguished and Johan is pathetic. But they're both such bastards and they're both so dramatic. The Order can afford to hire one type of guy and to top it off, they're all simps

Randomly Paired Cosmere Characters On A Date
I have a list of 112 Cosmere characters I feel vaguely comfortable writing for and a random number generator. Let's see what happens!
(Upon my honor, I did not finagle with these results beyond rerolling any repeat characters and not allowing Tien to go on a date with Gaz because gross.)
[Spoilers for the end of Mistborn Era 1!]
1. Eshonai & Teft
Eshonai: I am excited. This is the first date I've been on with a human! Teft: Sorry you got stuck with someone like me, then. I'm...not the best example that humanity has to offer. Eshonai: Really? You have an Honorspren, though. That speaks highly of you! Teft: I- How did you know I had an Honorspren?? Eshonai: She's behind you, giving me a thumbs up. Teft: Phendorana! I said I didn't need a wingman! Eshonai: You clearly do, though.
2. Marasi & Blushweaver
Blushweaver: Oh my...you're cute. I love the buttoned-up look! Blushweaver: I can't wait to get them all undone. Blushweaver: Oh that's quite a blush! Do you like me? Marasi: W-WE HAVEN'T EVEN ORDERED FOOD YET
3. Galladon & Bleeder
Galladon: You got crazy eyes, friend. Bleeder: Yeah, I kill people a lot. And I already have a man. Galladon: Shall we eat in slightly hostile silence then? Bleeder: Works for me. Galladon: Not the worst date I've been on.
4. Lopen & Shallan
Lopen: You know, I used to have only one arm. I kinda miss it! Lopen: You know why? Shallan: Because back then, you were always all right? Lopen: ... Lopen: I LIKE you, gancho! Shallan: Thanks! I'm pretty quick on the uptake...not that there's anything wrong with being stumped of course. Lopen: I may be in love.
5. Szeth & Lightsong
Lightsong: Well you have an...intense air about you. Lightsong: What do you do for fun? Szeth: There is no fun for one such as me. Szeth: ... Szeth: I guess I talk to my sword, sometimes. Lightsong: Oh, I'm gonna need to be drunk-drunk for this one.
6. Ann & Sazed
Ann: And after I got these spectacles, I got way better at firing guns AND cannons! Ann: My crewmates no longer fear ol' Ironeyes when I line up a shot, ha ha! Sazed: ... Sazed: ... Sazed: W-What was that? Ann: Hmm? What was what? Sazed: C-Can I ask you a billion questions about your planets mythology and religions, please?
7. Demoux & TenSoon
Demoux: So...this is just a little weird, right? Demoux: I mean, we were both there, back in the day, with Kelsier and Vin and all of them. Demoux: And we both seemed to die but didn't and we're still out there, bein' in books and stuff. We have so much in common! Demoux: But it's still weird. Demoux: ...It might be because you're in your wolf body. TenSoon: Humans love dogs. Demoux: I don't think this is going to work out.
8. Cord & Parlin
Parlin: That bow...it's amazing. Cord: Thanks! It's a Shardbow. Very flashy. Cord: Yours is nice too, though. Simple, but i can tell how well made it is. And well cared for! Parlin: Thank you. I think you can tell a lot about a person by how they care for their weapons. Cord: So true! Man, can you believe we BOTH brought our bows on a first date? Parlin: Do...most people leave their weapons at home or something? Cord: Actually, yes. Parlin: Strange. Cord: I know, right?
9. Gaz & Dockson
Gaz: ...So yeah, that's how I ended up with that lady, Shallan. Now I work for her--well, when she actually has something for me to do. Dockson: I can see why my stories about Kelsier made you think of her. They both seem like charismatic, damaged people. Dockson: Heh, do you think your Shallan and my Kelsier would get along? Gaz: ...Somehow, I feel like they'd try to kill each other. Dockson: You could be right.
10. Radiant & Adolin
Radiant: Tell me all the tales of your bravery in war! Radiant: I will not ask you about pooping, even a little! Adolin: Aww, but I kinda liked it when Shallan asked me about pooping. Radiant: Yes, and after this date proves to be much more stilted, I'm sure Shallan will feel all the more secure that she is meant to be with you, poop questions and all. Adolin: So this is a date about helping ease Shallan's lingering insecurities about how our first date went? Radiant: Well, yes. Adolin: Yeah, that tracks.

So you're telling me that Moash killed Teft. And Phendorana. I'm in denial, this can't be happening.

Oh, and now that I've read the Sunlit Man, I have a prediction: the horrible experience that made Sigzil avoid leadership positions is going to happen in Wind and Truth. It's going to involve his honorspren getting killed the same way Phendorana did, but he's going to survive. Doubtful that he'll bond Aux in Wind and Truth though

ok I know I just posted but it's been a long day and insane cosmere theorycrafting time now, guys
So: the Cosmere Character Pins. (yes this is a post about enamel pins. shut up.)
Last year, we got 18: thirteen in the Year of Sanderson swag boxes, including the #000 pin of Brandon, and five at the-con-currently-known-as Nexus. This year, so far, we have had... *checks notes* five?
I should clarify: five pins are confirmed to exist. The Kholin Family pins were released at FanX this year, and will presumably become widely available starting Lightday (Oct 29)? I think that's the current state of things, but they could show up sooner, I don't know. Thing is, the Kholin Family pins are numbered as: Series 2, #011-#015.
I saw this and was like, yeah, okay, that makes perfect sense, since the first 10 pins are from the Words of Radiance kickstarter. Obviously I don't have complete confirmation of this, as they still haven't locked my address (let alone sent me my pledge), but so far we've been told that a full pledge comes with 10 radiant spren pins that look roughly like this:
Tumblr media
Yes, it's blurry and vague, but that's all we got. I find this very interesting because the only spren I can 100% identify here are the Stormfather, and Wyndle (due to the chair). The inkspren and Cryptic do match the descriptions of Ivory and Pattern respectively; I guess the highspren and Reacher could be Szeth's spren and Timbre; and the peakspren, mistspren, and ashspren really could be anyone at all. Glys maaaybe, but I highly doubt it, there's no way he looks that normal. As for the honorspren, it's so tempting to say that's Syl- it really looks like her- but.... we already have a Syl pin. Series 1 pin #011 is a very different looking Syl. I guess it could be Phendorana, but that's highly unlikely for so many different reasons.
Ok, that's completely unrelated, ignore me. Taking into account the spren and the Kholin family, that's 15 pins so far this year, presumably numbered #001-#015 of series 2.
Then I went and checked the Wind and Truth fan bundle that just got announced. Szeth is getting a character pin in there. He's numbered #018, which is vErY InTeReStInG, iSn't iT.
Now. I could be out of my little mind. I just think it's intriguing that this heavily implies the existence of new merch that has not yet been announced. It's my personal belief that whatever pin comes with Emberdark, since it's next summer, will be in Series 3. But what characters they're going to pick, and what occasion they will be released for, before Wind and Truth- is very intriguing to me. I would kill for a Lift pin but I'm not sure we're going to get that. Given what little I know about book 5- I haven't been reading the preview chapters- maybe Rlain? Taravangian? Maya? Cultivation?
Thank you for putting up with me-

i think it’s interesting that you included that the spren dagger was probably meant for syl (i don’t think it was specifically meant for her, but that’s a different point) as a crime, as if killing syl is worse than killing phendorana. it’s telling that you think so because the only reason that would be worse is because syl is dearer to the readers and the gravity of that death is based solely on the perspectives we’re given rather than any in universe logic. which is exactly why a lot of these other things you’ve listed are bad too.
i’m not gonna go down the list because these are all statements i’ve made before, but i will say, it’s not correct to characterize moash fans as saying that he’s never done anything wrong or everything he’s done is justified. yes, we are commonly pointing out that there’s nuance to all of these things, and there is, but that doesn’t mean we think they weren’t wrong at all or that they were 100% justified. we are commonly replying to people who think in black and white shades that moash is 100% evil, like you, and so our arguments focus on the justifications and nuances that do exist, but that’s not the entirety of our opinions or perspective.
without justifying any of the above, moash’s known kill count is seven (off the top of my head, sorry if wrong). i urge you to think about the crimes of other pov characters and compare them. was jasnah 100% in the right when she arranged to have her sister-in-law assassinated or killed the men in the alleyway? was dalinar 100% justified when he waged bloody war for decades, killing countless civilians? think about why moash might have taken the actions he has and where moash might be in his journey compared to where these characters are in theirs.
i also find posts like this to be patronizing because all you’ve done is listed events in the book in the barest sense. fans of any character will have read the books as well. we all know what the events are. you can’t make an argument by just stating what happens in the book. we all know.
Moash fans: "Moash did nothing wrong/his actions are justified"
Me, unrolling a giant scroll: So, Moash's crimes are (spoiler alert):
WoR: Betraying Kaladin, and the whole Bridge Four
OB: Killing Elokhar in front of Kaladin while he tried to protect him, then doing the Bridge Four salute. Killing a Herald for no reason.
RoW: Killing Roshone in front of Kaladin, claiming he did it for Kal. With Odium's help he tormented Kal with nightmares to break him, and also verbaly tortured him. Killed several Radiants for no reason. Killed Teft's spren just to hurt Teft. Killed Teft, then threw his corpse in front of Kaladin. Had Kal's father taken as hostage, planning to kill him to drive Kal to suicide. Then he casualy went to kill Navani.
Also the Spren killing dagger was proly meant for Syl.
Soooo....

Upon re-reads, I'm always struck by the reasons why Rhythm of War (SPOILERS AHEAD) is my favorite Stormlight book. Don't get me wrong, I love the whole series to death, love the characters, the worldbuilding, the interconnectedness, the whole nine yards, but I just think RoW has some really great parts. There's is sleep deprived sadboy antics in the tower. The Dog and the Dragon. His swearing the fourth ideal. There is the Venli/Eshonai flashbacks, along with Venli's growth into a true Willshaper. Rlain finally getting some screentime, like he deserves. There's Dabbid, also getting some well deserved love. Shallan's formless arc, and the hinting at worldhopping. The Trial of Adolin Kholin, especially the 'We Chose' scene, along with all the budding implications of the bond between Maya and him. The interludes. Taravangian's last gambit. And, of course, the NavanixRaboniel Mad Scientist, Gaslight-Gateopen-Girlboss part, which is my personal favorite part.
RoW is, however, also Sando's greatest crime. I will never stop being mad about him (again, HEAVY spoilers ahead) introducing a character as fantastically interesting and brilliant as Raboniel, AND THEN KILLING HER OFF IN THE VERY SAME BOOK, although it helps trying to convince myself that he thought she would be too powerful for the Coalition to handle with all the things she and Navani taught eachother.
But then there is poor Teft, and poor, poor Phendorana.
This book Hurt me many, many times. Many of them were good hurts, emotions overcoming me as the characters grew and learned. Most of them were bad hurts, as I felt a relation to their struggles, and felt their pain. But the hurt I felt the first time I read of Phen and Teft's deaths, it hurt me so, so bad that I just wanted to stop right there, in the middle of the sanderlanche.
But upon rereads, the worst hurt came in Tefts POV chapter after he was awakened, knowing what was to come. The chapter where he finally opens up about his past. The chapter where he finally seems to begin accepting himself, accepting that he deserves love, accepts he deserves his bond, and that his friends deserve to have him too.
The chapter called Worth Saving.
Fuck you Brando Sando, I love your books.
