WoR: Betraying Kaladin, and the whole Bridge Four

OB: Killing Elokhar in front of Kaladin while he tried to protect him, then doing the Bridge Four salute. Killing a Herald for no reason.

RoW: Killing Roshone in front of Kaladin, claiming he did it for Kal. With Odium's help he tormented Kal with nightmares to break him, and also verbaly tortured him. Killed several Radiants for no reason. Killed Teft's spren just to hurt Teft. Killed Teft, then threw his corpse in front of Kaladin. Had Kal's father taken as hostage, planning to kill him to drive Kal to suicide. Then he casualy went to kill Navani.

Also the Spren killing dagger was proly meant for Syl.

If Moash dies in WaT I want to cry at his death. I want him to make a heroic sacrifice so Kaladin doesn't have to. I want him to die a hero's death, after everyone except Kaladin have given up on him.

Like, if his redemption/sacrifice is handled well it could be so much better than Kaladin or any other character killing him. Because imagine Sanderson making a character more and more hated throughout 4 books, making him truly despicable just to pull a redemption. This is the kind of insane shit he would do.

Do you guys ever relate to a character that's nothing like you? Like, something happened in your life that CONNECTS you to a character? For me, that's Dalinar.

No. But I did lose my mom to cancer in 2022. My internal landscape changed overnight. The things I deemed important changed. I was able to finally see my flaws, made bare by my immense regret (a normal feeling when grieving) and it look a LOT of therapy to forgive myself. I didn't like the person I was. I was selfish, was quick to judge and didn't desire human connection, and I was so mad at myself that it took my mom dying to spark that change.

Without making this a TED Talk, I deeply connected to Dalinar's grief that struck me in an unexpected way.

Blackthorn Unleashed was an amazing chapter. He went into Bloodstance - a stance for someone who didn't care if he got hit and he was RAGING

But you know what I also noticed about this chapter? Gavilar like, casually put a hit out on Highprince Kalanor and juts points Dalinar wherever he wants. And I GET IT, right? Like, the Alethi are good at war. Everyone talks about it, it's what they're known for.

HOWEVER, the enabling of Dalinar's behavior is, at times, sickening. Even though I know this is a cultural thing and they all see it as a good thing. There were several times in this book where Sadeas or Gavilar said something to push Dalinar towards violence that I was like YO this is super fucked up.

Tangerine had a interesting quote too. He was telling a story about how if there were 3 people and one was a murderer, would you hang all of them, let them all go and risk someone killing again, or keep them all in prison despite some being innocent. And Tangerine said

"Eventually you will execute someone who does not deserve it. This is the burden society must carry in exchange for order." And I'm sitting here in the US of A like

she tried so hard for Dalinar. even that scene when Adolin crawled down from the carriage and he saluted Dalinar...and Evi said Adolin asked her the best way to talk to him and when she told him he was a war general he decides to salute

that's just....that moment was so sweet despite Dalinar still not understanding how to be a father

oh, Shallan was supposed to take notes but was drawing Kaladin instead ok girl

Teft being addicted to firemoss and Rock saving Kaladin with the Shardbow were both so amazing characters moments. teft having so much self hatred and selling his uniform which ended up coming back around when the person who attacked bridge 4 for the herald blade had his vets on PHEEWW and Rock saving the day I SCREAMEDDDDD!!! Lift and Dalinar eating fruit together in silence is, I fear, iconic

i cracked up at the myth wit told about the queen who switched places with Mishim (the moon) to fuck Nomon (the other moon) and that's why Natanatan people are blue

I do like the little hints left, like he sees red (which we see later is the Unmade) and all the times he's briefly seen red and flashes of red we know was the Nergaoul, who was thought to be the origin of the Alethi "Thrill" which I found fascinating

I LOVED Dalinar's flashbacks. With the Nightwatcher (then Cultivation after Dalinar asked for forgiveness and NW was like ??? and Cultivation was like "I got it from here bitch"), and when he breaks down and holds Renarin ("They talk about you, but they're wrong. You just need to rest, after all the fighting you did. I know. And I miss her too." RENARIN PLEASE!!! THE TEARS I HADDD!!!!!), when Adolin lights up after Dalinar tells him he's proud of him, how he thinks of himself as an animal, that he deserves to be hated. It's all just so MUCH.

The PANIC ATTACK he was having when the Thrill like, chased him around and threatened to consume him...

he is not the class conscious bae the stans seem to think he is but at the same time it is okay for a character to be kinda dumb and revenge motivated

like yeah it is sexy to assassinate the king and avenge your grandparents but also. Moash why did the diagram not just drop you when you tried to bring kaladin in on your plot bc that was a STUPID move. He did not even have the capacity to appreciate what a difficult position he was putting Kaladin in. If you're gonna do an assassination don't half ass it and DON'T tell your superior officer who you know is deeply motivated by honor no matter how much he hates the class system. I'm not mad bc he made things difficult for Kaladin I'm mad bc he was dumb to expect any outcome other than the one that happened

But to moash's credit, he did learn his lesson eventually. He realized that elaborate assassination plots were not in his wheelhouse and stabbing people with shardblades is. I appreciate the self awareness

I despise everything he does in RoW. I don't see him getting a redemption arc, in fact I would like him more if he had the capacity to enjoy being evil. Not a fan that at this point in the narrative he seems to fall into the disability as punishment trope though

tl;dr I only stan villains who hit the right balance of poor little meow meow and magnificent bastard. Sadly Moash fails at being both

RoW villains pt 2

This is part two of my analisis of RoW villains, because I think they are awesome

Part 1

Moash - You have to admit he is a wonderfully written character. And your hate for him is a testament to that. Truly, characters with a personal vendetta are not that rare. Enemies who were close with the character before are also not a rare sight.

But there is a reason why Moash is so hated. In the previous books he betrayes Kal, kills Elhokar, but it is in limits of "traditional villiany" so to say. But in RoW he is on a new level. There is something uniquely wrong to us in dilberately trying to make a person kill themselves, something so horrifying in seeing him strike at all the sore spots in Kaladin, knowing that Moash has the power over Kaladin.

And then we get Moash POV's. And we see just how chill he is with that. How logically his mind explains the horrible things he does to Kaladin. And we see that underlying fear. The fear of pain that drives him to do everything he does. All of that works so well to ignite fear in us. And we are right to fear. We are so very right.
