can i say something. about the way you people talk about dungeon meshi. i find it extremely... interesting how headcanons about laios being nonbinary are framed exclusively as a way to shoot down other people's headcanons about laios being transfem. like you are aware when you have a hc that a character is nonbinary you can just... say it... and you don't need to preface it with "well i don't think they're transfem BUT".

and also i think its interesting that i never actually uhm. see anyone discussing their nonbinary laios hc in literally any detail. obviously i can't read anyones mind but it comes across to an audience like you saw someone hc laios as a trans woman, got irrationally irritated about it, found a 'progressive' and 'trans friendly' way to shoot it down, and then proceeded to continue treating him like a cis man in every post, meta, fic, etc, only ever bringing up the fact that you think laios is nb when someone else thinks laios is a woman. almost like you don't actually think that at all, and keep the idea around exclusively because transfem hcs make you uncomfortable for reasons you refuse to interrogate.

i don't think this is necessarily intentional on anyone's part, but i do think considering the discussions we have been having about transmisogyny on this website its not unreasonable to ask (especially of fellow tme trans people) that you have a long hard look at the way you respond to things like transfem hcs. while obviously fandom is #notthatdeep, it does not bode well for your ability to make room for your trans sisters for things that actually matter if you can't even do it regarding gender headcanons for anime characters

Classism, Privilege, & TMA (synopsis)

Here’s a little content analysis for ya’ll because I think ya’ll missed some of the bigger points of tma.

It is absolutely a commentary on privilege and classism. Point blank.

There’s a reason all the major families that play a role in trying to bring about an apocalypse or have otherwise dedicated their entire blood lines to a specific entity are implicitly white and explicitly aristocratic and extremely privileged.

That includes Jonah, Peter, Simon, etc.

This is also made apparent with Leitner who — although wasn’t evil — did try to contain and control the books related to the entities. This is clear commentary on his old money and privilege and how that translated to his over inflated sense of importance and ability.

Mary Kaey is explicitly attempting to glorify her GERMAN heritage in order to hoist her own bloodline up in the esoteric community — other than saying it directly, JS cannot get more explicit about what that is about.

Just about every other avatar simply did not choose to become an avatar and often become one because of either the mistakes or desires of the aristocratic avatars (the most prominent case of this being Jonah with Jon).

JS even says that the changed world was meant to explore the horrors of our reality.

Both Selesa and Annabelle (canonically poc) fuck off on their own because of what can be summarized as “fucking with the entities too hard is rich white people shit”

This is also why I like the interpretation of Jon being Indian (which this post is getting long so I’ll summarize this) because it creates a much more fascinating interpretation on the intersection of race and classism in modern England that dates back to colonialism.

I immediately thought of Sirius and Thalia, they're both similar in character (good people who will get pissed the fuck off easily) and are, despite not necessarily seeming so at first glance, mum friends.. also they could kill somebody, they wouldn't be too perturbed by it if they thought the person deserved it, or if there was no other way

Lily I'd assign Rachel E. Dare, they both go headfirst into a world they don't know and are insanely brave + clever, they make friends easily (also they're both redheads, I just realised that, cheers to me forgetting how characters look like)

Remus I'd probably give Frank Zhang.. quiet, feeling like an outcast even among their peers, in a role they don't think they can do well. Also they're both nerds, idk if that's canon, but it's my hc, and I like to think both of them appreciate LotR

I'll say Peter and Leo Valdez, not bc I think Leo would ever betray people (I don't imagine Peter assumed he would as a teenager) but bc they both feel like the weak link in their group of friends, they're both afraid to be left out..

James I'd say Hazel Levesque.. I know the most similar might seem Percy but Hazel's even more loyal than Percy, and frankly, goes further to defend her friends from injustices the way I imagine James would. She also faces death with impeccable courage
