#Passion Vine

Today, prior to mossscaping, I encountered a Fallowtide miracle!

For about fifteen years I have had a passion vine, which started its life as a potted plant, and then got to live in the ground when I moved into this house about 11 years ago. Every summer since being an outdoor plant it grew huge and glorious, before dying back in winter.

Passion vines are also called "May pops" because (depending on your climate) they pop back up every year around May. Well, this year it never popped back up. All summer long I was looking for signs of life, to no avail. I wasn't sure if it was because of the ice storm we had last winter or what, and when I looked into it, I learned that passion vines supposedly have a life span of 5-7 years. If that's true, then my plant lived to twice its life expectancy.

Except today, while I was pruning the rose bush which sprang up to 12 feet tall as soon it started raining again, and which scrapes against my bedroom wall when it's windy, I discovered that it had sent up a new vine, over behind the rose bush! So if the lifespan thing is true, I think my plant managed to clone itself (it's never fruited, so I think it's unlikely that it reseeded). Possibly not for the first time.

Regardless, given the plant's name, I think a resurrection is pretty on-brand. It is risen!!

what's the one plant or tree that you wish you could grow but are unable to due to it not loving your growing zone? (unless you won the lottery and could afford making *the perfect environment* for it)

hmmmmmm, i would say mango trees or echium candicans (pride of madeira). the echiums are easy to grow, but annoyingly hard to overwinter :(
