"just as I did, in 1983."
you'd never know my favourite parts of the show are the fucked up insane bits when my first instinct is to draw the cheesiest thing imaginable

No spoilers but I never thought anything could top the animation, color palettes, and the overall visuals of Into the Spiderverse but Across the Spiderverse absolutely did without a doubt in my mind. Just gorgeous animation and compositions all around and I can’t wait until it comes on dvd so I can pause and admire every single frame. Everyone who worked on character designs, backgrounds and lighting etc should be so so proud of the work they’ve done.

dan and phil have proven themselves to be fans of freakish gay arthaus horror movie stuff with their dnpc universe and whatever the hell dan was on when he wrote The Urge so in my head ive created this fake short horror film starring them wherein phil dies and his body is possessed by this creature that retains all of phil’s memories and simply wants to live as him normally but dan knows he’s a fake and HE knows he’s a fake and so dan is stuck in this emotional saw trap incapable of telling anyone without sounding insane and forced to grapple with the grief of phil’s death while 99% of phil is standing right in front of him BUT his only other option is to force the creature out of phil’s body and thereby live the rest of his life alone with none of phil at all so eventually he just gives in and lives with this fake phil and no one knows but him. a soul is small dan. very very small.

There's something poetic about the parallel journeys of Ryuk & Light's boredom. Both begin the story by doing something incredibly rash to try to escape mundanity, and by consequence of that action, meet someone that alleviates that feeling and makes them feel alive again. Then they eliminate that person due to circumstance, without much consideration for the long-term internal impact that will have on their future; and slowly re-descend into boredom and meaninglessness, never fully realizing their attachment to the person they killed and that they might actually miss them.
The way they react in opposite ways to their person's replacement is interesting too, though. Light reacting to Near with disdain because he could never replace L in his mind. And Ryuk specifically choosing Minoru because he reminds him of Light. Choosing is interesting to me because it's something Ryuk scoffed at, and made fun of Light for assuming. And yet, here he's doing just that.
L changed Light, and while the bond between Light and Ryuk is of a different shade, Light changed Ryuk, too.

Y'all, acting is so much funnnnnn, ahhhhhhh! I love it so much! If you haven't tried it, I highly recommend it, even if you're just reading over lines of something with your friends. c:

Want to know how I know Frozen 3 will most definitely not be great? The announcement of a Frozen 4.
The problem with Frozen 2 was that it had many, many ideas and they attempted, and utterly failed, to condense them into one singular linear story; the problem with Frozen 3 is that they "have so many ideas" that they realized they can't realistically condense them into one singular movie so their solution to "not repeat a frozen 2" is to instead push for ALL ideas to move forward which in turn has given them an overly lengthy cut.
Watching Frozen 1 in cinemas for the first time in a long while really reminded me how Frozen worked because it was very very simple and most of its heart was in the two "main" characters and how they navigated through life after a horrendous situation they were put through.
The heart of Frozen is not all the mystical and mythical elements that they can't get enough of attempting to push, hell, the most compelling part of Elsa as a character was just how raw and human she felt DESPITE having otherworldly powers.
I truly don't know which road they're taking the franchise through, but if the podcast and the books that have come out are anything to go by, it's straying way too far from what made the first movie compelling and enjoyable: its freaking simplicity.
