I will be posting about things we can do to make the world a better place for people and nature. It's not that hard!

Actually it's really really good and so much more! Bc there's a bunch of stuff in that new law. It's not just smartphones. It's about all portable batteries and their waste.

Here is an article doing a good job, here is the EU press statement and here is the law itself.

Tldr: EU is changing it's laws for portable batteries forcing companies worldwide to adapt and taking steps towards a better life-cycle for batteries, including accessiblity to repair and responsibilty for their waste. It's a good thing for both consumers and the enviroment.

It's not just smartphones. It's ALL portable batteries. That includes from laptops and tablets to e-bikes and "industrial batteries, starting, lightning and ignition (SLI) batteries (used mostly for vehicles and machinery) and batteries for light means of transport (e.g. electric bikes, e-mopeds, e-scooters)" (EU Statement) basically anything with a rechargeable battery.

and it's not just so that every normie can do the batterie swap - it also makes rules about how they're responsible for the waste of the batteries and that they have to be collected. It's about how the batteries need to be recyled instead of disposed, so that instead of batteries needing to be more and more and more, it's about using the ones we already got or at least part of them. It helps not just the enviroment, it helps (hopefully) with the explotation in other countries were the materials for the batteries are coming from, often exorting the workers.

For that batteries are going to need lables and sources were they come from with that law. That makes the sourcing of their batteries a problem for the company were they can't just hide behind the fact that nobody can see wtf is going on. It's a bit for transperency and it opens up the market to reycling of batteries as a lucrative deal.

Pretty nice step in the right direction when it comes to repairing things as well! They specified for smartphones and the like that you need to be able to do it even as a newbie with no clue and that for more complicated things an independent third party proffessional should be able to do it. That's a pretty major 'fuck off' when it comes to tactics like specialized screws etc. that make repairing currently such a pain in the ass. And if you can reach the battery than chances are high that you can reach other parts of the phone as well, espacially in case companies go away from just glueing everything together.

And yeah. This is an EU law, not a world wide one. But the EU is a pretty major client. Apple will not make a phone specifically for the EU. It's gonna have a world-wide impact on how batteries are handled. That's pretty awesome.

1 a, 1 b, 2, and 3 fit how many people view technology, I call these people techno fetishists. These are futurists, techno "optimists," and tech bros. They have fetishized technology and some even treat it with religious reverence. Technology is a tool, it can help and it can harm. We have reached the point where we could use our technology to destroy our civilization, maybe even wipe our selves out completely. These techno fetishists have only made the use of technology more harmful, their fetisization of technology has led them to use or to let others use technologies in harmful ways. It is not hyperbole to say that techno fetishists are destroying the world.

Air pollution, water pollution, plastic pollution in the ocean, the health effects of micro plastics, deforestation, desertification, etc, these come from technology. But they don't have to. Social media has created social division while making a very few very wealthy and powerful, contributing to the growing wealth divide. It didn't and doesn't have to though. The world is heating up because of human caused climate change and climate change that will harm us and is harming us. It didn't have to be this way though. The negative effects of technology comes from how we use it, these negative effects of technology could have been mitigated, some of them could have been prevented. Part of the reason these harms have not been mitigated or prevented has been the techno fetishists. The fetisization of technology has only undermined efforts to deal with the consequences of technology, and those who fetishized technology ignored the warnings of the scientists who told people about these consequences. The repeated failed predictions from the futurists, the techno optimists who ignore the potential harm of advancing technology reducing our abilities to preemptively deal with them, and tech bros have been around long before Silicon Valley (they just didn't have a name tech bro until the 00s) and have only ever cared about short term financial gains, all have worsened technologies effect on the world.

Futurists are the best people to start with because there is a lot of overlap with techno "optimists" and tech bros. Even when they don't overlap, techno "optimists" and tech bros have stolen many ideas from futurists while ignoring deeper philosophies they are based on and ignoring the more cynical futurist predictions.

Futurists are the kind of people who will point to Moore's Law saying "computers will continue to get more powerful indefinitely". Moore's Law refers to the number of transistors on a chip, not processioning power. More transistors does usually mean greater possessing power but referring to Moore's Law in terms of possessing power misses the causal connection between transistors and possessing power. Transistors can only get so small, they are physical things, made of matter. At a certain point it becomes physically impossible to make them smaller. Futurist look at technological trends and technological uses of their time and extrapolate those into the future ignoring physical, practical, and economic limitations, and ignoring the demonstrable historical facts that technological development does not work that way. Technologies develops in an S-curve. A technology starts out expensive and it advances slowly, over time costs come down and the technology advances faster. The advances continues to accelerate until the technology reaches physical, practical, and economic limitations that makes it more and more difficult and expensive to advance the technology. The technology can and often does continue advancing but at a much slower rate.

If you look at science fiction you'll notice that science fiction often does the same things, extrapolating trends and uses into the future. Science fiction is science fiction though, it can get away with it for the same reason fantasy can get away with magic, fantastical creatures and worlds, they are not real. Futurists are basically science fiction writers and enthusiasts who think their science fiction is a plausible depiction of the future. These science fictions have proven not to be, but that hasn't stopped them from continuing to create science fictions thinking they are plausible. The fact that we are in the future and it is nothing like what anyone predicted speaks volumes about deep into the "fiction" part of science fiction futurists are.

Trends change. Moore's law is not a scientific law, it is trend in technology observed by a the engineer and businessmen Gordon Moore. Between 1903 and 1969, a period of 66 years humans went from barely getting off the ground to landing on the Moon. After five missions to the moon, we stopped going. The Concord was the first and only supersonic passenger airliner. It entered service in 1973, it ended service is 2003. The Space Shuttle first launched in in 1981 and it's last launch was in 2011. Since 2011 US astronauts have been going up in Russian Soyuz rockets which use 1960s technology, then Falcon 9 rockets that while are more advances in terms of computers, materials, and other components, in many way work like rockets from the 1960s and 1970s. There has been advances in flight technology, slow evolutionary advances, not the revolutionary advances of the 80 years after 1903. It's not just flight and space flight technology, this is how useful and popular technologies advance, it is the S-curve of technological advancement. This doesn't mean a new technology can't initiation a new rapid period of development but very few have accurately predicted these new technologies, mostly focusing on science fictions.

How futurists imagined people would use computers.

Futurists get more wrong than how technology will develop, often technologies are used in ways few predicted. How long have people had the ideas that computers in the future will work they was they do in Star Trek? In Star Trek, from The Next Generation onward, everything was touchscreen and everyone mostly told the computer what to do. It's a cool idea, the kind that futurists like. We've had the technology to have voice control on any internet capable device for well over a decade. How often has it been used? Not often (though there are time when it should be the only interface used like when you are driving). LLM chatbots like ChatGDP will not make people use them more, the problem has not been that the devices that couldn't talk back, the problem is there are better ways to use these devices. Touchscreen is similar, it works on phones and tablets but most laptops sold today don't have touchscreen and most desktop monitors are not touchscreen. There are better ways to use a computer than touching a screen. Key boards, mice, and touchpads will be the dominant interface for desktops and laptops because they are just better than touchscreen, touchscreen will continue to be used on handheld devices because it is just better than voice control. Voice control will be used in cars and other places where one's hands and/or attrition is taken up by something else, and voice control will be what is used in these situation into the future, not the techno fetishist idea of a neural implant. Futurists would never predict the internet or how it is used, they would never predict texting, smart phones, or social media for the same reason they are rarely used in old science fiction. They didn't not fit the trends, how technology was used at the time, and they wouldn't have been seen as cool.

Next are the so called "techno optimists," though "optimist" is not the right word for them as their "optimism" is just toxic positivity. While futurists get so much wrong, many, if not most are not overly optimistic about technology, some are very pessimistic about it. The reality is these toxic techno "optimists" are not optimists, they are utopianists who think technology will solve all of our problems. These utopianists, like singuleratists and tanshumanists (which overlap with them) are very much like an end times religion. They have their prophecies about what is gong to happen, when the prophecies fail, reinterpret and redate. Like all utopianists; Communists, Nazis, Islamists, Fundamentalists, etc, their ideologies are only destructive and only make the world worse. I go so far as to call them an existential threats to humanity as we have reached the point where we can destroy ourselves with our technology.

Technologies are tools, they can help us and they can kill us. A hammer can be use to build a house or bludgeon a man to death, a knife can be used to whittle a peace of art, or slit a woman's throat. Social media can bring people together, forge friendships, give people the freedom to speak out, and allow distant people to keep in contact, it can also be used to divide, turn people against each other, control people, and create violent mobs. Video games can be be a form of art, express ideas, and tell stories that couldn't be told in any other medium, they can also be addicting, used to distract the populace from the problems in the world, and used to spread propaganda. Technology is a double edged sword, which way it cuts depends on how we use is it. The toxic positivity of "techno optimists" ignores the harm technology can do, and when potential harms are ignored, they inevitably happen.

As much as technology has made the world better (and it has), it has also created new problems, and these problems can't always be solved with new technology. Global warming, pollution, and environmental destruction can't be solved with technology alone, we are going to have to make changes to our lives if these problem are to be solved. New technology will help but not nearly enough. The problems and societal divisions social media has created can not be solved by any technology, it can only be solved by cultural changes and media education. Changes in us, in how we use the technology, how media literate we are, and how money is made from it. For the world to get better, we need to change, not have a religious faith that new technology save us.

Next are tech bros, the AI bros, the "AI artists," the crypto bros, the tech investors, the tech businessmen and the corporate executives. These people don't understand the technology, they don't care to, they only see it as a means to make money. These are the FOMO filled people who flocked to crypto, meteverses, and now "AI," because they want to be on the ground floor of the next big thing. They never stop to think of the social or environmental effects of a new technologies. When they care they'll tell them selves and others "that the problems will be solved later, we have to develop the technology now" (showing the overlap with techno "optimists"). Ultimately what really matters to them is short term financial gain.

These people don't look at the long tern social and environmental costs of the of technology they flock to new technologies because of their FOMO, they don't even look at the short term tern social and environmental costs, many don't even stop to ask if a new technology will give them gains in the short term, fearing that if they stop to ask they will miss out. Both crypto and "AI" have a huge environmental costs, those environmental costs affect peoples lives and will affect peoples live into the future even of both technologies vanish. The damage has been done, and there is no sign or evidence that crypto and "AI" will ever use less power, in fact they will need more. The worst part is that because tech bros, executives, and investors are so filled with FOMO they will go all in on new technologies even before the new technologies have been shown to be profitable. This happened when the internet was still young, inverters and companies went all in on selling online before anyone figured out how to make selling online profitable, leading to the dot com bubble. We are seeing something similar with "AI" today, companies like OpenAI and Microsoft are loosing money on "AI", while investors and other companies are throwing money at "AI". To make the situation worse, "AI" LLMs are already running into limitations. OpenAI is already running into diminishing returns with the data they stole to "train" ChatGDP, and the internet is not big enough to continue making ChatGDP better. Tech bros and scammers are still making money from it though. They make money in the form of salaries, salaries funded by investment, investment that is likely never to get a return. They make money by selling "AI" related products to gullible executives, companies, and people, and many are making money through start up scams.

We are in a world of growing problems, technology is part of the causes for these problems. Techno fetishist are only adding to those problems. We can deal with the problems we have, they are not insurmountable and not as difficult as been presented. The things holding us back are political and cultural, part of that are the techno fetishism. The science fiction ideas of the futurists clouding any meaningful attempt at looking at where technology is going, the techno toxic positivist utopianists pushing for more technology regardless of negative effect of new technologies, and the tech bros who don't care about the social and environmental costs so long as they make short term profit, or just to not miss out, all of these are making the world worse. They are destroying the world.

you guys are definitely my spiritual warriors. red headwear/accessories might be significant for some of you! pigeons/birds as well. you guys are absolute sweethearts!! like hachi from nana :) definitely the kid of the friend group! terribly optimistic, you guys remind me of strawberry cheesecake. a lot of friends know to seek your comfort when down, because you can also be the therapist friend. i'm thinking of one of my own friends typing this and god she's so sweet! you guys are tender and not ashamed to show your emotions, and this is such an appealing quality, because you attract people with a lot of depth who, unlike you, don't show it very easily because they struggle with self-perception. good news is, you do have a tendency to attract people who are smart and clever! you may come off as a bubblehead, but you're more than that. you have this intense capability of being a deep thinker and you prefer deeper talks to ones about the weather. however, you're also very self-sacrificial. you feel like you were born owing things to the world, and owing things to people who have been through pain even if they keep hurting you over and over again. you have a very naive perspective on love even though you've been through hell and back--be careful not to confuse your naivete with hopefulness. some people don't deserve your sweetness, babycakes. you're one of a kind and that's meant to stay that way. your power lies in your circle, so you really have to be careful with who you let in. you guys also feel like your struggle with consistency shows, but it's really something more internal. sorry, that was something that jumped out of me.

you guys are deeply honest, deeply intuitive, and deeply softhearted individuals. a lot of you might be drawn towards 'softer' music. i'm thinking erykah badu, sufjan stevens, a lot of music from countries that are outside of your own. you guys are good analyzers and observers, and you make connections by relating things to other things. you may give compliments that seem backhanded but in your mind you mean it in a very pure and genuine way, but be careful, because it can come off as something different! #idothesame #guiltyascharged. other than that, you guys are the lifeee of the party! fervent and bright, you guys are an eternal cascade of firecrackers. you guys seem to have two sides, and it's such a big privilege if someone has access to both of those things! you guys loveee the materialistic aspect of life and are so deeply talented in it, like, you guys are destined for material success, i'm hearing because you guys know how to be socially apt and you, at your core, wanna help the world. unlike pile 1 you guys are my realists, you realize that there are truly some genuinely evil people out there, and you guys have such a low tolerance for bullshit. you defend your people with such a tender cadence, but you don't play about them. a lot of older siblings here. a lot of you went through pain at a young age and it's deep inside of you, so this little hint of tragedy is definitely visible; you may feel drawn to people and always end up finding out they had some kind of trauma, so that's definitely something to beware of because unlike you, there's a lot of people out there who wield their trauma as a weapon, y'know? you guys are very honest and intricate with what you guys do. the problem is you believe others are the same (rather used to) and then your whole worldview crashed, so you're still recovering from that. a lot of you are true believers that others are as good as you...not always, babycakes, not always. you guys look really good in darker colors. a lot of u like makeup that accentuates your features to stand out!!

you're verryyyy friendly and hard to make upset if a person's just existing. you understand that not everybody has to be the same person as you, and you're very tolerant and probably have a diverse friend group/people in your life! you guys like the riches in life and chase success so hard, which i think is such a good quality to have in this life because so many people are bums and settle for bums. you guys are GOOD and you chase after GOOD so i can assure those of you that are worrying about your future; keep putting in that effort and soon enough you'll be very happy. a lot of you deal with paralyzing anxiety and panic attacks, however, and practicing slowing down would definitely help you guys. you internalize things, but you guys are meant to let things out, in one way or the other. it's different for each and every one of you. a lot of you smell really good and love body mists and perfumes. i love you guys, make sure to take care of yourself babycakes 💋

you guys are def my loners out of all these groups. and honestly, a lot of you are at peace being alone. you understand that your very presence is like a secret; only deserving of people who share that same specific quality you do. this varies for a lot of you, but you probably know what i mean! you guys are very proud of who you are, in a non-egotistic way, and others understand why you are. you are probably still very insecure deep inside, but that's something that you're actively working on, so i applaud you! a lot of you struggle with battles deep inside your head (if you're ever struggling hard, please reach out to someone). when you're with people you truly like (which is not a lot...) you guys BEAM a lottt and honestly your smile is to die for and people love when you choose them, because when you do? it means that they're something special. a lot of you are lionhearted but are also very quick to rage (leos? aries? fire signsss). you guys are effortlessly sensual and you're so raw with everything that you do. your presence is very addicting because you pull everyone else up with you, you make sure that when someone's granted a bit of your existence, they know how much you value them. you guys can be very childlike at times, and you have such a good sense of humor. you carry yourself so well and a lot of people see you as authority and may look for your reassurance/advice because you seem like you know everything. life, to you, is a pattern of intricate designs, and you honestly have a good sense of it. it's an art to you, and i think that's honestly such a good way of viewing it, until your romanticization becomes too much and you're sent to rock bottom. you guys are full of passion, so definitely be careful. try to be in the middle instead of flying through the state of great depression, and the state of great happiness.

you guys can unintentionally come off as aggressive, but when people get to know you? you're the softest person everr. it just takes time to get those walls down. people can tell that you're guarded because they see you alone, then they see you with those you truly love, and you're so kind and sweet and it's like ughhh. it'd feel really good to be chosen by you. people easily get offended when you choose someone over them which is kinda bullshit if you ask me 💀💀. a lot of you, especially if you're a woman, dealt with a lot of issues with masculine figures in your life, and you're fiercely protective over the feminine energies in your life, but despite being a protector at times, you wish that you didn't always have to be the caregiver. i assure you that all of you will find someone who WANTS to make sure that you're okay, who holds you in their arms. a lot of you remind me of halsey? listen to some of her songs. also, a lot of you hold this brighttt glow to you which is visible. out of all my piles, you guys are most like the sun. so bright, you can burn. you guys seem unreachable to some people, unapproachable (hello rbf?!?!). if i could hug you right now i would. you guys need to know you'll end up okay. i love you babycakes, make sure u rest 🧡

height: 6”2, friendly type of height, tall enough to deal with all sorts of animals who get into high spots; and always willing to grab equipment for his employees

build: lean. not overly muscular, though they’re definitely there. biceps big enough to trap your head under…or a little lion’s. always climbing up trees to pry the stubborn monkeys out of them.

age: mid to late twenties, but the maturity of a man much older. doesn’t look a day over twenty, though, clean shaven and neatly combed hair, though you love when it gets all soft and gives him that boyish look.

glasses: wore contacts the first time you met him. wore them when handling animals, rarely wore his glasses because he disliked the look of them. first time you saw them and melted? had them on. always. had to claw it back from a monkey after it snatched it off his nose.

clothes: t-shirts that stretch over his biceps, unaware of the amount of ladies he gets drooling over him. basic, unbuttoned shirts, sleeves rolled up to his forearms over a white tank. cargo pants/shorts, same mountain boots. and watch where a non venomous snake tried to sink it’s fangs into the leather.

personality

caring: the most gentle soul to exist. cares for the environment and animals, devoting his life to them..and you. soft words and touches, playful and considerate. no argument ends in tears on his watch, will forever help you overcome your fears and make sure you’re okay.

optimistic: no challenge is too hard for him, or impossible. if you’re scared of animals, he’ll help you through it. if a species is going extinct, he’ll do all his research and see what he can do. he’ll care for every sick animal in his conservation, even when times get rough. rare to see him without a lingering smile on his mouth.

adventurous: loves travelling to countries like kenya, or india, places where he can discover more. enjoys learning to befriend ‘deadly’ animals, loves the thrill, even when it borders dangerous, and you have to reel him back. who would he be without this?

confident: people on kildare don’t quite get why the projected business shark, somehow turned into a shark tamer. it’s still a business, an amazing one at that– though rafe claims it’s not the for the money he makes a ton of it– but it’s not in economics like they all thought. nonetheless, rafe doesn’t care for their judgement. he’s confident and assured in what he does because it makes him happy.

THE MYSTERY TWINS ⇆ THE ORIGINAL MYSTERY TWINS

Stanley and Stanford Pines take on the roles of Dipper and Mabel! Stan's curious and is the more mystery focussed one whereas Ford is more energetic and active than his base counterpart.

Stanley is an adventurous young boy, looking for the next interesting trip to go on, initially thinking spending the summer at Levity Rises was going to be a waste of time. Though after arriving and finding the scrapbooks alongside the anomalies happening across Levity, he and his brother quickly became obsessed with finding out the secrets of the Rises, as well as who the mysterious Smile Pup(swapped with bill cypher) is.

Ford (often going by 'Six' or 'Sixer) is a happy go lucky and optimistic young child who is alot tougher than his base counterpart was at his age. Since it's typically only just been him and his brother, so he's eager to make the best of his summer by meeting new people, though he hides his polydactyly with gloves he changes frequently.

DIPPER ⇆ STANLEY

Dipper takes the role of Grunkle Stan in this au!

Owner of the mystery shack, Grunkle Mason- or (Big) Dipper to people around Levity Rises- is the resident faux scientist of the town. His personality is more eccentric, tending to get hyper fixated on paranormal paraphernalia, to the point in where he does lock himself away for periods at a time.

Not much is known about his origins, he just kind of always existed on the outsidea of the town, but after opening the shack to the public, people quickly accepted his presence due to his quirky personality.

MANLY DAN ⇆ SOOS

Dan actually takes the role of Soos in this au, being the resident handyman of the mystery shack! Though often the lines blur between his role and Wendy's from the original. Wanted to keep it flexible yk?

Dan's a real dude's bro, pretty dim witted and blunt but often chill and level headed- Unless he's challenged- dude's competitive as hell, it's actually crazy. His mother, dubbed 'womanly wendy', is the toughest lady in town, owning a diner, aptly named 'Wendy's'.

Dan enjoys working at the Shack as it's one of the few places that'll let him freely experiment with his logging with the nearby trees for his own projects and adding fixtures onto the shack, which Dipper is pretty thankful for since he can focus his efforts on other things. It's also because of this reason that Dipper puts up with Dan's outbursts and semi airheaded personality. So it's safe to say, he's there the majority of the time.

Stan admires Danny alot and the events of 'Into the bunker' happens with Dan in place of Wendy. This does mean Stan had a passing crush on Danny during the episode, but even afterwards Stan kind of puts him on a pedestal. Ford enjoys Dan's company often being called 'little man' and playfighting on occasion. The twins act like his little hype men and he enjoys hanging with them.

As for Soos in this au, he initially built the mystery shack and is frequently seen around Levity Rises taking on odd jobs and making people as happy as they can be, though it's implied that he hasn't found his true calling yet.

LAZY SUZAN ⇆ WENDY

Lazy Suzan takes the role of Wendy in this au! Hazy Jane is a part time worker at the mystery shack, and is stan's first crush upon arrival to the Rises. She's a bit of an odd soul with a less than perfect memory, but is incredible at making a homely environment for the shack. Despite that, she can be extremely co-dependent in some situations, especially with her boyfriend. Otherwise she's earnest and does her best at her job. The events of 'Soos and the real girl' occur with Jane instead of Soos (and Rumble instead of GIFanny). Despite wanting to help, Stan is incredibly pouty throughout the episode.
