usually when he came by barry’s for a fix, or some stash to distribute across figure eight, you were there alone. low cut dress, flowy, enough for men to lift up and peek under. that sullen smile that held more melancholy than seductiveness.

today your boyfriend had his arm hooked around your waist, muscles flexing as he locked you on his lap a little too tightly.

you looked..uncomfortable. no matter how much you tried to hide it with timid smiles, rafe could tell you didn’t want to be here.

occasionally, he’d lean down, whisper something in your ear, squeeze your thigh and you’d shiver. blink his way, search his face, then look away.

rafe caught your eyes once, and narrowed them at you. your gaze flicked from his so fast you’d think he stung you.

then your boyfriend caught it: the way rafe kept looking at you with furrowed brows. never focused on barry, hyper-focused on you. “the fuck you lookin’ at rich boy?” he grumbled.

“nothin’..nothin’ at all,” rafe murmured, challenging his gaze.

“really?” your boyfriend probed. “the way i see it, you’re fuckin’ ogling my girlfriend an—”

barry clears his throat.

the two men snap towards him.

rafe nods, silently. but he sees the way you’ve quietened even more, like you’ve gone in on yourself. he sees the way your ex mutters words into your ear, harsher this time, and how soulless you seem to get.

and for the life of him, he’s never wanted to help someone before like he wants to help you.

Technically speaking, my mum is Muslim and my dad is Sikh, so I was raised no specific way. But I think I’m more inclined to say that I’m Muslim, or at least my beliefs more or less align with that more. However I have an understanding of both to be respectful towards my parents.

The practice you’re referring to is called Sati– and I believe it’s common in India, but mostly in Hindu regions. I also think it’s been banned because it’s obviously very dangerous, but they throw themselves into the funeral pyre

I just wish they'd bother to look into the fact we do actually have a *beautiful* culture built off of thousands of years if history, and many parts of England (mine included) do in fact celebrate morris dancing, maypole dancing, the green man, paganism, ect because they're the ones who *actually* care about our culture, and if they did that they'd realise it isn't the immigrants stealing our culture, if anyone's to blame its the government. most countries governments have their schools teach the students the country's culture and fund traditional practices but they just don't, if they wanna blame someone they need to group up on Nigel farage on one of his once in a lifetime visits to Clacton and batter him, but they won't because hes their oh so glorious reform king

These so-called “patriots” are the ones who don’t even have much of an understanding of their own culture. They’ll eat Indian or Chinese takeout, claim tea is part of their culture, but that’s bullshit because it’s not. England has its own culture that years of colonisation, and taking from the immigrants that now seek to claim refuge here, has evidently hidden. And if they’re so in love with their country, then they should focus on that! Not just waving around St. George’s flag, which by the way, his parents were immigrants!!

He’s used enforcement agencies to target opposition leaders and media that doesn’t go along with what he believes and spreads (js look at the assassination of Sidhu Moose Wala). He’s driven a religious wedge between people in India, being a Hindu extremist himself, and currently there’s a lot of threat towards Muslims and Sikhs (of which I am). He’s done this through using private media (Godi Media) and he doesn’t take accountability for anything. It took him months before he spoke up on the issues in Manipur, and I’m unsure if he even spoke on the Covid disaster. Obviously, I do not live in India, and while I know he’s benefitted the economy in many ways, a large majority of the labour workers (which he aimed to target and provide jobs for) have still not been aided.

I keep calling it patriotism, but like “patriotism” because that’s how they’re trying to sell it but it’s obviously nationalism. And the way that, I don’t really think it is about immigration, but just that it’s being used as an outlet for racism. Because obviously, it’s all white people protesting (from what I’ve seen) and I doubt they’d bat an eye if a white immigrant was walking down the street. I’m sure if I walked down the street though (being British Indian, even though my parents were born here too and I’ve never even been to India) they’d immediately assume I was an immigrant. The British empire- what quite literally built our country- was based off of taking advantage of other countries, and after the war, they literally relied on immigrants to help build back the country. So I’m sorry (not), but how can you be so against immigrants, if history has shown your country needed them? And thank you, because British culture is supposedly what? Tea? As in chai from Indian? Curry with chips? Indian again. Pleaseeeee

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the flags normally, it’s the intent behind it. People are using the flags to demonstrate “patriotism” in response to hotels being used to accommodate asylum seekers in the England. It’s representing anti-immigration, and blatant racism, with the suggestion behind it being to keep Britain filled with only British people. They’re using patriotism as a weapon, essentially, to fuel racism.

I think it’s sickening, because so many of these people are asylum seekers who genuinely need the refuge!! And I hateee this “take care of your own first” narrative. Blatant racism, as if Britain didn’t invade so many countries and doesn’t leech off of their cultures! Honestly Britain is made off of the Commonwealth and the countries they colonised, so how can you hate migrants/immigrants? Oh! And if you’re so patriotic don’t travel! Stay in your country, and give back to your economy!!
