MAJOR SPOILERS FOR SUPERMAN

I actually think the change regarding Superman’s parents is pretty interesting. As time moves forward, more and more stories have the House of El and Krypton itself be more evil and more colonizing.

And honestly, it’s not a horrible choice and it still works well with Clark’s story of being an immigrant. Krypton is a shitty place, and that is undeniable. It is why the planet died and it why Krypton is given a bad rep in the comics.

Krypton was destroyed through generations of work and it died through its actions. My Adventures with Superman actually highlighted this in such an interesting way as well.

On a personal note, often a lot of immigrants leave their homes because they have to leave because the values that are within its government or just in its surrounding are just not good. And that creates a deep feeling of alienation in young immigrants or immigrants’ children.

And it is the shittiest feeling on Earth because that doesn’t mean you won’t miss them. In fact, you’re going to grieve it everyday. You will miss a language you can’t understand, the smell of a culture’s food and the feeling of belonging that settles right into your bones.

You will spend the rest of your life missing a place that cannot welcome you back. And you will spend your life wondering what your life could’ve been if just somethings were just different.

Often immigrants and especially their children/first generation have to reckon with that and that is what this movie highlights.

The movie highlights that and that immigrants and first generation are often judged on our ancestry rather than our actions.

People see Clark as an outsider due to his blood. That no matter what he does, what he says, he will perpetually be a foreigner in the house that raised him, and he will spend his life trying to change that. It will break him but he will get up back, and he chooses to do so above all. He chooses to believe in people’s capacity for love rather than hate.

It also highlights how even though we can come from shitty places, we can still be good. We are not defined by generalization, we are not defined by the actions of the past but our own actions. We take in the beliefs of the people around us and that is reflected by Clark.

Clark Kent is Superman because of the Kents, not because of anything Jor-El did.

so much happened in this whole episode but i’m still on fig infiltrating ruben’s dream, making it look like the place where his friend was murdered, and then disguising herself as kipperlilly & repeatedly saying different variants of “somebody needs to take the fall for this, and it’s not going to be me. it’s going to be you.” while adaine as the elven oracle shows up next to her. can you imagine waking up from that, the idea of a horrible truth being pinned on you by your friend to save her own skin while the personification of fate and destiny stands there, almost as a promise that this is GOING to happen to you. we don’t even know if this kid is guilty. my god.

The other day, I saw a non-fandom text post along the lines of:

“What we had was so special you’ll look for me in every new person” (sorry I haven’t been able to find it again)

And I haven’t stopped thinking about it since.

Because to me this perfectly describes Durgetash + romancing your companions.

I can’t help thinking about amnesiac Durge missing something, always searching, but can’t remember what.

They find echoes of it in Gale’s intelligence, his enthusiasm and knowledge when he speaks about magic. And yet, it doesn’t fit entirely.

They find it in Lae’zel’s easy superiority, her ruthlessness and determination. And yet, it’s not quite enough.

They find it in Astarion’s deception and easy charm, the way he manipulates a situation to his advantage, the way he doesn’t need magic to have people literally bare their necks to him.

They find it in Shadowheart’s snark, her secrecy, her dark goddess. They find it in Karlach’s rage (though she burns hot instead of cold which is odd..), in the smell of sulphur and hellfire that clings to her. They especially find it in her mechanical heart, that makes them want to reach out, bury their hands in it, just to see if it feels as familiar as it seems. If maybe owning her heart will fill the hole in their memories, their chest even.

And yet, surprisingly, they find it in Wyll’s pact, Wyll’s past, but also Wyll’s manners and they way he dances, his stories, that make them feel closer to a city they don’t much care about otherwise.

They find it in the deep possessiveness, maybe even hatred, when Raphael first comes to camp.

And yet none of it is enough, none of it fits quite right, and while maybe eventually they manage to look past that familiar feeling and find new things to admire about their chosen partner…deep in their heart they know.

In the end, they’ll always look for something none of them can give them.

Not until they first encounter that handsome young man with an easy smile, and all the jagged broken edges click together like horrible little puzzle pieces.

A reworked headcanon now that we have new games:

Using a Pokémon to fly between locations requires a licence in most regions, however the criteria needed in order to obtain one varies from region to region.

In most regions, a Flying Licence is obtainable to anyone holding a valid trainer's license, provided they've collected a set number of gym badges. Trainers are also expected to pass a short certification test, which really just confirms they know not to exceed certain altitudes, to avoid flying within the vicinity of an airport, to avoid leaving the region's airspace, and to ensure they're aware they MUST use a domesticated Pokémon.

In Galar and Paldea, a much more thorough (and prohibitively expensive) exam is required to obtain a licence, hence the presence of aerial taxis within these regions.

In Fiore, the rules are the absolute strictest, with Flying permits only being granted to Pokémon Rangers, who also must use a bonded Pokémon. Fiore is also the only region which requires permit holders to contact local air traffic control to avoid collisions.

These restrictions don't apply to the Dragonite Shuttle, since it flies a pre-trained route that's already been cleared by the appropriate authorities, however the Dragonite must wear a tracking device to ensure it doesn't veer off course.

Almia is the only region to allow permit holders to fly on wild Pokémon, however as stated in game this is a privilege only extended to Rangers in the upper echelons of Almia's Pokémon Ranger Union.

Oblivia is a free for all because it's the quickest way to island hop and nobody cares enough to regulate it.

imagine you're kevin, practically born with a racquet in your hand, you grow up with your mother for a while and maybe you ask about your father and she tells you not to worry about it, or maybe you just never ask because she doesn't mention it and you don't know how important it is, yet. then she dies, you're moved to evermore, it's so different from what you've seen previously but you have no choice so you just bow your head and do your best to survive, clinging onto your mother's sport, clinging onto the idea that you'll become a star.

you're there for so long you eventually forget you've ever been outside of it, but you see how desperate riko is for his father's attention so you start wondering, however briefly, about the concept of a father.

then you're in high school, you find the letter and suddenly it's not just a vague concept you have to wonder about, suddenly it's something real and tangible. you've heard of david wymack, it would've been impossible not to since he was a friend of your mother's and considering the kind of team he's taken up to creating, maybe you've even met him extremely briefly at some point. you know enough about the industry to think his team isn't just a publicity stunt, and somehow you know that if he finds out he'll do everything in his power to get you out.

you're not stupid enough to tell riko this, but you do tell jean and he laughs at you. of course he does. but you've been there for too long, you've seen too much, and you're old enough to understand what the master would do if he deemed david wymack to be a threat. you can't leave riko's side therefore you can't tell him any time soon, possibly ever, so you resolve to reading the letter over and over instead. (riko reads it almost as often as you)

then you're 19 and the erc thinks riko is holding you back. you're 19 and you're watching riko stomp on everything you've built up through the years. you're 19 and the letter is the only reason you have the strength to leave.

you tell wymack and the team as much as you dare because they deserve to know the risks of having you here, and wymack takes it in stride, he puts himself and his team at risk and even takes out loans to keep you here, like you knew he would. he signs you and he deserves to know about the letter, the more time passes the worse it'll be when you do tell him, but you can't yet because it's too soon and you don't trust yourself to tell riko no when the time comes.

then neil is asking for your help

now imagine you're wymack. your childhood was shit and you didn't have the support you needed at the time, but you believe you can be better than the hands that shaped you. kayleigh taught you everything you know about exy, and you loved her so it stung when she died and you couldn't be there for her only son. but, no matter what you might think of tetsuji moriyama, you don't think kayleigh would send her son to an unsafe place. you just go on with your days, maybe tune in on the news to see that kevin's doing well. you have no reason to think otherwise.

when you have the opportunity to start an exy team from scratch, you dedicate it to the kids that need another chance, the kids the world has given up on. you'll never give up on them.

then, what feels like a lifetime later, kevin day is standing in front of your hotel room and asking you for help. he's saying his 'beloved brother' broke his hand, he's saying the moriyamas are part of the yakuza, he's saying they'll kill him if they find him. throughout the year you get to know him better, you see that he's grown up to be a caged and abused wreck, you see he was raised to care about nothing but exy, you see him having a panic attack at the mere mention of having to face his former team, you see him drinking himself to oblivion to cope. you can't undo the past so you do your best to support him now, but damn if you don't wish you could've been there for him.

then he's telling you he's your son
