You gotta read and watch some old books and films that aren’t 100% modern politically correct. I’m not saying you should agree with everything in them but you need to learn where genres came from to understand what those genres are doing today and where media deconstructing old tropes is coming from.
Also, more often than you might think, they’re not actually promoting bigotry so much as “didn’t consider all the implications of something” or just used words that were polite then but considered offensive now.
Kill the censor in your head.
#the redwall glorifying site can sure be squeamish about books with no more problematic premises#if you’re asking what’s wrong with redwall it’s the good/evil species essentialism and the one book that doubles down on it#but like you still read it if you want to write animals having cozy adventures so you’re not ignorant of half your own genre

How Phishing Simulators Help Companies Strengthen Cybersecurity Defenses
What is a Phishing Simulator?
A phishing simulator is a software solution that organizations use to test their employees' ability to recognize and avoid simulated phishing attacks. These simulated phishing emails, texts, or other messages mirror the look and content of actual phishing attempts from hackers. By launching simulated phishing campaigns, security teams can see which employees may be more susceptible to these types of social engineering attacks. Assessing Vulnerabilities Through Phishing Tests Phishing Simulator campaign, an organization can gain valuable insights into potential vulnerabilities. They can see how many employees interact with the simulated phishing emails or texts by clicking links or downloading attachments. Those who interact may need additional cybersecurity awareness training. Analyzing the results also shows which departments or roles within a company are more likely to fall for a phishing attempt. This identifies focus areas for improving security knowledge and protocols. Tracking Improvements Over Time Phishing simulations aren't a one-time exercise - they are most effective when run on an ongoing basis. Repeating phishing tests at regular intervals, such as quarterly or biannually, allows an organization to track whether security awareness training is having an impact. If fewer employees are interacting with simulated phishing messages over time, it means the training is resonating and vulnerability levels are decreasing. Ongoing testing also accounts for employee turnover bringing in new potential risks. Tailoring Training to Needs The detailed reports generated by phishing simulators provide extremely useful data for tailoring security awareness training programs. Training can then target specific departments, roles, or individuals and focus on weaknesses exposed by the phishing simulation results. This makes education more relevant and ensures it adequately addresses the types of phishing messages, websites, and behaviors employees fell for. Pinpointing shortcomings in knowledge allows training to fill gaps and strengthen defenses. Phishing Simulation vs. Reporting of Actual Phishing While educating employees about actual phishing attempts remains important, simulated phishing significantly improves security awareness. Studies show employees are far more likely to interact with simulated phishing messages than voluntarily report actual attempts, due to embarrassment or inaction. Phishing simulations tackle this by proactively identifying vulnerabilities without endangering computer systems or data. And testing enables organizations to potentially catch weaknesses before they are exploited by real cybercriminals. Developing a Strong Security Culture Ultimately, ongoing phishing simulator play a key role in cultivating a cyber-aware security culture throughout an organization. Employees understand the importance of vigilance and staying informed with the latest phishing risks. Leadership demonstrates commitment to protection by regularly measuring vulnerabilities through simulations and addressing weaknesses. And simulations empower employees to take control of security through informed decision making, mitigating social engineering threats before they cause costly damage or data breaches. A consistent phishing program strengthens an organization's total security posture over the long run.

there really are few emotions i find more compelling in a story than "you should be afraid of me. please don't be afraid of me"

this is just my opinion but i think any good media needs obsession behind it. it needs passion, the kind of passion that's no longer "gentle scented candle" and is now "oh shit the house caught on fire". it needs a creator that's biting the floorboards and gnawing the story off their skin. creators are supposed to be wild animals. they are supposed to want to tell a story with the ferocity of eating a good stone fruit while standing over the sink. the same protective, strange instinct as being 7 and making mud potions in pink teacups: you gotta get weird with it.
good media needs unhinged, googling-at-midnight kind of energy. it needs "what kind of seams are invented on this planet" energy and "im just gonna trust the audience to roll with me about this" energy. it needs one person (at least) screaming into the void with so much drive and energy that it forces the story to be real.
sometimes people are baffled when fanfic has some stunning jaw-dropping tattoo-it-on-you lines. and i'm like - well, i don't go here, but that makes sense to me. of fucking course people who have this amount of passion are going to create something good. they moved from a place of genuine love and enjoyment.
so yeah, duh! saturday cartoons have banger lines. random street art is sometimes the most precious heart-wrenching shit you've ever seen. someone singing on tiktok ends up creating your next favorite song. youtubers are giving us 5 hours of carefully researched content. all of this is the impossible equation to latestage capitalism. like, you can't force something to be good. AI cannot make it good. no amount of focus-group testing or market research. what makes a story worth listening to is that someone cares so much about telling it - through dance, art, music, whatever it takes - that they are just a little unhinged about it.
one time my friend told me he stayed up all night researching how many ways there are to peel an orange. he wrote me a poem that made me cry on public transportation. the love came through it like pith, you know? the words all came apart in my hands. it tasted like breakfast.
#warm up#writeblr#actually this is because again i don't go here#i don't read/write fanfic but i have nothing but respect for my troops#but i also have never played minecraft. im sorry. please ask me any question about pokemon tho i love that shit#anyway#out of some banal and thoughtless curiosity i watched the minecraft movie trailer#and again i know nothing about minecraft. i am aware im in an endangered population#but im watching this going: this is so fucking.... BAD#there is NO LOVE in it!#like if someone who has NO history in minecraft watches that and is like - ohhh this is soulless#WHO IS THE AUDIENCE????#ppl who love minecraft are gonna hate it!!!#at some point it's the ''mean girls musical movie'' problem --#some people will always hate the premise of what you're doing and some people will love it#make it for the ppl who love it#and usually that somewhat convinces the haters to like. chill enough to TRY it . bc it IS good#but when you try to make it for the haters..... nobody likes it. it doesn't have passion. energy. footwork#which is a small way of saying a big thing: if you love something. fucking make it and assume someone will love it too.#i love u . be brave . be bold. be in boston and come to my reading#where i wrote a really weird fucked up little book.#love u love u love u etc

Apparently, back in the day, there was a really notorious tie in novel for Star Trek that had a lot of slash elements called Killing Time
The slash elements were requested to be removed by Paramount, and they were, BUT due to a mistake, the original was sent to print without the edits
When it was caught, they’d printed 250k of this “first edition” which subsequently became collectors items for Kirk/Spock fans, since later editions DID include the edits censoring the slash
NOW, I bring this up because my friend who’s into the original Star Trek found and was reading the first edition at the desk at the library we work at, cause we’re slow on weekends and we’re the only ones here. She laughs at it, so I ask and she tells me about the general backstory of the book, and that she laughed because (among other things) Kirk, who doesn’t get mad in the og series really, was being described as hot headed and apparently just getting into fights left and right
So I’m looking over her shoulder at the scene, commenting on the character changes that resemble modern fic-degradation of characterization for the sake of a shipping dynamic, when I realize something
Now, my only interaction with the Star Trek series directly was the 2009 reboot, and my friends hasn’t seen those and is only interested in the originals. As I’m looking at this scene, and my friend is pointing out the character changes to Kirk, I realize that this is the fucking premise of the reboot, down to the fucking alternative timeline shenanigans, the rank swap, and Kirk being a hotheaded fuck up
The 2009 film was literally based on this slash fiction misprint they tried to bury!
Im reeling.
I can’t be the only one who made this connection.
So I google to see if anyone else has, and oh yes, good, there was someone
The fucking author of Killing Time
…I feel like I’ve uncovered a conspiracy. I’ve still got 3 hours left in my shift and I can’t focus. The world must know.

I'm curious. what job would you do if money was no object (you just automatically had an income you could live comfortably on)? including work like volunteering, studying etc. please share in the tags :)
#under this premise part time work is valid too!#personally i think i'd probably study. maybe do another masters maybe part time across two years this time#if i were to do a job job i think i'd try out working in a library (ideally an academic library). which would technically be more studying#since i'd need to get a library qualification first#i'm just very curious what people would choose if it was purely a choice of what appeals to you over the practicality/necessity#talking

bring back zooterkins, the best 17th-century swear word
I don't normally do Just Characters Swearing, but. ...this kind of wrote itself and then wouldn't leave my head. it comes from both a piece of character-writing advice that has always stuck with me, and also my conviction that Leona is 1000% funnier as a character if his dialogue has to stay G-rated. let Kalim say fuck, but don't let Leona say bastard.
(I'm sorry)
#art#twisted wonderland#(sort of atemporally somewhere between episodes 6 and 7?)#(i - i wanted that lilia joke okay)#long post#tumblr went 'you can post up to 30 images now :)' and i was like well okay then#anyway once again i'm sorry#i'd say i don't know why i did this but actually it is because i wanted kalim to scandalize everyone#i tried to keep it...you know...tasteful. a tasteful amount of fucks.#hey remember how the framing premise for the original birthday interviews was that yuu worked for the school paper#because i have never forgotten. in my head they are still getting up to all kinds of wacky reporting hijinks.

was thinking abt how anya sleeps by the polle statue. which is motion activated to start talking.
+ i like drawing polle as a Character
#now originally i drew this under the same kind of premise as the animatic i did#in that it Is in reality just a statue but is. subconsciously treated as alive and as it’s cartoon self? if that makes sense#but i was thinking abt what if polle Was alive. a toon put on the tulpar as a shitty morale boosting animal that Isn’t you friend#but i worry this would change too much abt the story. i wouldn’t want to add too much levity/fluff#mouthwashing#the art gallery#polle being a toon instead of a statue kinda cheapens it’s effect probably#like i think it worked In The Little Bit like in the animatic. but not through the whole game#plus also it’d probably really muddy his like. symbolism. of like thr company and the baby#so i do have a couple more doodles but (shrugs worriedly)
