what have you truly loved up to now, what has elevated your soul
Let the youthful soul look back on life with the question: what have you truly loved up to now, what has elevated your soul, what has mastered it and at the same time delighted it? Place these venerated objects before you in a row, and perhaps they will yield for you, through their nature and their sequence, a law, the fundamental law of your true self. Compare these objects, see how one complements, expands, surpasses, transfigures another, how they form a stepladder upon which you have climbed up to yourself as you are now; for your true nature lies, not hidden deep within you, but immeasurably high above you, or at least above that which you normally take to be yourself.
— Friedrich Nietzsche, "Schopenhauer as Educator" in "Untimely Meditations" (Cambridge University Press, 1997) (via Dylan O'Sullivan)

Unexpectedly Yours: Part 1
Fandom: Ted Lasso (Regency AU)
Pairing: Roy Kent x F!Reader
Summary: Lord Roy Kent still has yet to marry. He hates the notion that marriage is a way to ensure your status in society. You have delayed your debut to society for years because of the same idea. So what happens when two people who hate the idea of marriage are constantly drawn to each other?
A/N: inspired by my post here. probably gonna be 2 or 3 parts max mini series.
You thought you'd have more time. You thought you'd be able to enjoy your youth for just a bit longer, but your time is up. Now five and twenty, your parents can no longer let you delay your debut to society any longer. Tonight, your debut ball, is probably going to be the worst night of your life.
__________________________
The Viscount, Lord Roy Kent wasn't too keen on moving from London to the small town of Richmond. However, after his brother-in-law's passing, he understood his sister's need for a change of scenery. So he bought an estate in Richmond for him, his sister, and his niece to live in.
Not long after their move, the viscount and his family were already being invited to take part in society, albeit, a small portion of it, but still a notable population of it.
"We should go," Lord Kent's sister, Clara, insists after viewing the invitation over her brother's shoulder.
"Why?"
"We should socialize, Roy. We didn't move here just to be holed up in the house all day. Come on, it could be good for us." Lord Kent groans, and Clara nudges him, "Fine. Don't go. Phoebe and I will go ourselves. I'm sure there will be some children there she could befriend."
Hating the idea of his sister and niece going by themselves gave Lord Kent the push he needed, "Fine. I'll go."
Clara beams at her older brother, "Wonderful!" she plucks the invitation from her brother's hand, "I'll send back a reply that the three of us will be attending."
_________________________
The day of the ball, your mother was fussing in a way you have never seen before. You and your young cousin, Cecelia, watch your mother flutter about ordering servants and cooks in a very frightening manner.
"I don't like who auntie is right now," your eight year old cousin whispers to you.
You snort, "Just wait until you debut, I'm sure it'll be just the same. Maybe worse."
Cecelia grimaces and then sighs, "Do you think other children will be attending? I've made sure all of my dolls look pretty if they do."
"I'm sure a few will come, Cece."
"Is Keeley coming? I like playing with her."
You softly smile at Cecelia, "Yes, but she won't be able to play with you, darling. She has to socialize with everyone and, most importantly, keep any potential suitors away from me," you give your cousin a joking nudge.
Your attention is suddenly on your mother as she starts scolding one of your handmaidens. You rush over to them and step in-between them, "Mother, what happened?"
"The flower arrangements are all wrong! They don't look how I want them to. They-"
"Mother," you place your hands on her shoulders, "Breathe." You then nod to your handmaiden and she scurries away. You guide her to a nearby bench and sit beside her, "I've never seen you so stressed before. You've planned balls prior to this."
"Yes, but this is especially important. This is your debut. The time for you to finally find a husband. Potential suitors will be here and everything needs to be perfect! Most importantly, the viscount Lord Kent and his family will be attending."
Your brows shoot up in surprise, "Really?"
You've heard news about the viscount and his family. They moved to the small town of Richmond due to Lord Kent's sister's husband passing away. She has a daughter around the same age as Cecelia.
Lady O'Sullivan, Lord Kent's sister, and her daughter, Phoebe, have been seen out, but there have been very few sightings of Viscount Kent. He's, essentially, an anomaly, a mystery that everyone is trying to solve.
You? You have no particular interest in him at all, even if he is attending the ball held in your honor.
"Mother, I'm sure however the flower arrangements turn out, it'll be fine. Everything will be fine."
_____________________________
When Lord Kent, Lady O'Sullivan, and Phoebe arrive, there are already many guests present. As soon as they step foot into your home, your mother is rushing up to them.
"Lord Kent, it is an honor to be your host for tonight."
Clara steps forward, "Thank you so much for the invitation, Lady L/N," she thanks your mother with a curtsey. She then gestures to her brother, "This is my brother, Lord Kent and my daughter, Phoebe."
Your mother curtsies to Lord Kent and smiles at Phoebe, "Hello Phoebe. My niece is upstairs with other children. If you go to Jane," she points at the woman at the bottom of the stairs, "she can take you to them."
Phoebe looks up at her mother and when she receives a nod, she hastily rushes to Jane, ready to play with other children.
"I hope you enjoy the ball," your mother says, "My daughter, Y/N, is somewhere here, either mingling or hiding," she gives a sorry expression and then moves to greet other arriving guests.
Lord Kent groans as he enters the ballroom and Clara elbows him, "Behave. Go converse, mingle." Lord Kent slowly turns his head and glares at his sister, who then snorts, "Or stand in a corner and look menacing." She leaves her brother's side, heading for the h'orderves.
Lord Kent assumed his intimidating stature. His hands clasped behind his back as he walks around the ballroom. It was much smaller than ones he's been in when he lived in London. Still, it was impressive for a home in a small town.
"Sir?" a servant offers a tray of drinks and Lord Kent takes one. He sips the beverage, still wandering around the room, a looming and intimidating presence.
__________________
Your dance card had filled up quick. Left and right were you pulled around the dance floor by different prospects of men. They were all so...boring.
After another dance, you drag your body to the corner where Keeley and her fiancé, James, or Jamie as he liked to be referred to, stood in the corner talking and drinking.
"So?" your best friend asks with hopeful eyes.
"Just as boring as the last," you say as James offers you a drink, "Honestly, I don't understand how you dealt with this for years until this numpty finally turned himself around," you gesture to Jamie.
Jamie shrugs, "I'm just lucky she was willing to give me another chance," he kisses Keeley's cheek lovingly and you inwardly sigh. You always hoped to have a love like theirs. Yes, it was rocky at the start, but Jamie had changed himself around to be the man Keeley deserved.
"Yes, well," you lift your now empty glass, "I'm going to get another one of these." As soon as you turn around, you bump into a man, causing his drink to spill over him.
Your eyes widen, "I'm-"
"Watch where you're going," he rasps out.
You're taken aback, "Excuse me?"
"You need to be more aware of your surroundings," the man says with a frown.
You scoff, "Well I didn't know you were right behind me, so maybe it's you who needs to be aware of your surroundings and not stand so close to people!"
The man's brows furrow and just as he opens his mouth to retort, your mother appears by his side, "I am so sorry about this, Lord Kent. I'm sure this was an accident, right, Y/N?"
"Yes, an accident," you say, glaring at the viscount.
"We will happily pay for a new coat," you mother says and you roll your eyes.
"It's fine," Lord Kent mumbles and turns on his heel, going back in the direction he came.
Your mother turns to you with a stern expression, "You best hope you didn't upset Lord Kent too much."
"It was an accident, mother. Besides, he stood too close to me. How was I suppose to know he was right behind me?"
__________________________
After the ball ended, you were so exhausted. The dancing, the mingling, all of it was too much. Several men had asked to call upon you, but you had declined, to your mother's dismay.
A week later, you thought you would have a break from your mother's meddling in your future. However, you were very wrong.
Your mother had called you in and surprised you with a guest.
"Lord Kent?" you look at him confusedly and then give your mother a questioning stare.
"Lord Kent accompanied his niece, Phoebe, here so she can play with Cecelia."
"How...thoughtful," you clear your throat and smooth out your dress, "Well, I'll let you two talk while I go back to reading," you move to step out of the room, but your mother stops you.
"Wait, darling, can you keep Lord Kent company for a moment? I just need to check in with the kitchen for lunch. It'll be only for a moment." she looks at you expectantly. You know exactly what she's doing and you don't like it one bit. She's already been on you about rejecting several suitors. A part of you regrets that now because, maybe if you hadn't, you wouldn't be forced to sit here with Lord Kent.
"Very well," you slowly lower yourself onto the bench beside your mother.
Your mother jumps to her feet excitedly, "Lovely! I will be back shortly!" you watch her scurry out of the room but not before giving a nod to your handmaiden.
You sigh and turn your attention to Lord Kent whom is sitting up straight, face void of any expression. His dark brown eyes staring back at you.
You wiggle in your seat, slightly unnerved with his gaze, "So, are you enjoying our little town, Lord Kent?"
He gives you a grunt and after cocking a brow at him, he speaks, "As much as I can. It's very quiet. Society is still just as nosey here."
You snort, "You have no idea." You clear your throat again, "Have my parents bought you a new jacket to replace the one I ruined?"
"No."
"Oh? Why not?"
"I told them not to. The jacket wasn't very important to me to begin with."
"Seemed rather important enough for you to snap at me," you can't help but say the statement with a little disdain.
"I...apologize for my behavior. I had a distasteful encounter with someone prior that made me upset. I'm not excusing my behavior, but providing some context to what led to it."
You nod, accepting his behavior, "Who did you encounter? Was it Lady Radcliffe and her daughter, Lavinia?"
He rises a brow at you, "How did you know?"
"They always stir trouble. I told mother not to invite them but she didn't want to look bad for not," you shake your head, your nose scrunched up, "All that family cares about it maintaining a higher status."
"Doesn't everybody?"
You shake your head, "Not me. I don't care about any of it. I dislike how dishonorable and ingenuine people become when they find out you have a high place in society. I know I'm privileged to have enough money to live comfortably, however, I don't like the theatrics of it all."
Lord Kent leans forward, resting his elbows over his knees, "You sound very passionate about this considering you just held a ball to do just that."
You scoff, "Please, as if that was truly what I wanted. I've pushed my debut back for years. I couldn't delay it anymore."
"No one caught your eye last night then?"
"Not anyone in the slightest," you sigh, "What about you then? I imagine many ladies throw themselves at your feet because of your status. Doesn't it get tiring? Doesn't it feel like you're being used?"
Before Lord Kent can answer, your cousin and Phoebe are rushing into the room, "Y/N, we need your help!"
"With?"
"We want to play princesses and dragons!" Cece answers excitedly.
"You want me to play the dragon?"
"No, you're playing the princess, we're playing the dragons, and Uncle Roy will play the knight that rescues you!" Phoebe replies, pointing to everyone and giving them their roles.
"Oh, um," you glance at Lord Kent, "I don't think your uncle-"
"Let's go," Lord Kent says as he stands to his feet.
"Really?!" Cece looks up at him with excitement.
"Really?" you ask him in surprise. He shrugs, causing you to then stand, "Alright. Let's go."
"Yes!" the two young girls cry out as they rush out of the room and up the stairs to Cece's play room.
You and Lord Kent follow at a much slower pace. Lord Kent, walking besides you, leans in and whispers, "Phoebe's been struggling to make friends since we've moved. I'm happy she found a friend in Cecelia."
"I can't imagine how hard it must've been. Losing her father and moving away."
"It hasn't been easy, but I've been doing my best to see to that her and my sister are well taken care of."
You place a hand on Lord Kent's arm, "You're a good brother and man, my Lord. I don't know many men who would do the same."
Lord Kent, glances at your hand and then you pull away, mumbling a 'sorry', before rushing to Cecelia's play room.
Lord Kent proceeds to follow you at the same slow pace. His fists clench behind his back where he clasps them. There's a fluttering in his chest that he's never felt before and he's sure he's going to have a heart attack.

Curt Devine, Casey Tolan, and Donie O'Sullivan at CNN:
Before Election Day has even arrived, the “Stop the Steal” movement has reemerged in force, with some of the same activists who tried to overturn former President Donald Trump’s 2020 loss outlining a step-by-step guide to undermine the results if he falls short again. For months, those activists – who have been priming Trump supporters to believe the only way the former president can lose in 2024 is through fraud – have laid out proposals to thwart a potential Kamala Harris victory. Their plans include challenging results in court, pressuring lawmakers to block election certification, and encouraging protests – culminating on January 6, 2025, the day Congress will once again certify the results. “I have a plan and strategy,” Ivan Raiklin, a former Green Beret and political operative who has close ties to associates of Trump, told a group of Pennsylvania activists earlier this month. “And then January 6th is going to be pretty fun.”
Trump’s allies – and the former president himself – are increasingly pushing debunked claims of voter fraud, spreading their rhetoric through podcasts with massive audiences, megachurch sermons and political rallies in key states. Some Trump backers, including pastors associated with Christian nationalist ideas, have described the election as a fight between good and evil, describing Harris as the antichrist or suggesting that God has anointed Trump as the victor.
Four years ago, Trump’s unsuccessful efforts to overturn his loss to President Joe Biden didn’t truly materialize until after the election. They were largely improvised and ad hoc, with a flurry of hastily filed lawsuits that went nowhere and efforts to convince state legislators to block certification that fell short. But this time around, MAGA activists have been planning to undermine a potential Harris victory well in advance of the election, with some even arguing that state legislators should simply ignore the election results and award electoral votes to Trump by default. Congress passed a measure in 2022 that makes it harder to overturn a certified presidential election, and with Trump now out of office, he and his allies cannot wield levers of the executive branch to try to influence the election. But experts say that the people involved in these conspiracy theory-driven efforts appear to be better organized, more determined and, in some cases, more extreme than four years ago.
Federal law enforcement officials are also ringing alarm bells. A bulletin put out earlier this month by the Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Bureau of Intelligence warned that extremist rhetoric about the election could motivate people to “engage in violence, as we saw during the 2020 election cycle.” Marc Harris, a former investigator for the House select committee that investigated January 6, 2021, told CNN he’s concerned that the tactics to undermine the election have evolved since 2020, even with the safeguards put into place since then. “Those looking to overturn the election are way ahead of where they were in 2020,” said Harris. “But on the flip side, the pro-democracy defenders are also more prepared. How that shakes out is not clear to me.”
Baseless fears of a ‘steal’
Unfounded claims about malign forces conspiring to cheat Trump out of an otherwise inevitable election win have been increasing in recent weeks from influential members of the MAGA movement. “Yes, the steal is happening again,” Emerald Robinson, a right-wing broadcaster with nearly 800,000 followers on X, declared in a blog post earlier this month, criticizing the fact that votes may take days to count in some states. “It doesn’t take days to get election results. It takes days to cheat.”
Patrick Byrne, the former Overstock.com CEO who donated millions of dollars to efforts investigating the 2020 election, warned on Telegram this week of a cyberattack that would rig the election and lead to imminent “death and cannibalism” unless Americans stand together. And Greg Locke, a prominent Tennessee pastor who spoke near the Capitol the day before the January 6 riot, told his followers in a sermon earlier this month that the US would be hit with “a catastrophic storm that is going to be man-made” in the days before the election, as an apparent method of stealing the vote. “If Kamala wins this election, hear me when I tell you, we will never have another one,” Locke predicted. Some of the debunked ideas that surfaced after the 2020 election and sought to explain how Trump lost remain rampant, such as the notion that voting machines are flipping votes to favor Democrats or that election officials in swing states have been complicit in widespread voter fraud.
“The same systems are being used. Many of the same players are in place,” Joe Hoft, who has contributed to the conspiracy-theory-peddling website The Gateway Pundit, told CNN when asked about the 2024 election. “I don’t trust the process. The process is broken.” In recent episodes of “War Room,” a prominent program airing election conspiracy theories started by former Trump adviser Steve Bannon, guests have repeatedly suggested that Democratic governors in swing states or Democratic members of Congress could block certification of a legitimate Trump victory.
They’ve cited comments like Democratic Maryland Rep. Jamie Raskin telling Axios earlier this month that he didn’t assume Trump would use “free, fair and honest” means to win – even though Raskin said he would “obviously accept” a Trump victory if it was honest. “They call us election deniers all the time,” GOP Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene said on a “War Room” episode last week, in which she raised concerns about overseas military voting. “But it looks, it appears to be that there is a big fight being set up over the certification of the election and the outcome of the election.” Greene has also floated a conspiracy theory that recent US Capitol Police training exercises are connected to a plan by congressional Democrats to keep Trump out of power even if he wins. Trump himself has echoed some of the conspiracy theories pushed by his supporters, suggesting that election fraud is rampant in 2024. But party officials have struck a different tone.
[...]
Plans to block a Harris win
While some groups have been gathering supposed examples of election fraud for lawsuits to challenge a potential Harris win, other pro-Trump activists have coalesced around a plan to ensure Trump returns to the White House: state legislators can simply allocate their state’s electors for Trump regardless of vote counts. The strategy generated headlines last week after Rep. Andy Harris, the chairman of the hard-right House Freedom Caucus, said it “makes a lot of sense” to allocate electors that way in North Carolina, where he suggested damage from Hurricane Helene may disenfranchise some voters.
Harris, who later walked back his comments, initially voiced support for the proposal after hearing a presentation from Raiklin, who’s known for having posted a memo that argued then-Vice President Mike Pence could have blocked certification of the 2020 election results. Raiklin has been espousing the plan for legislators to seize control of awarding electoral votes in various states in recent weeks and receiving support from other far-right figures. Mark Finchem, a Republican candidate for state senate in Arizona, wrote on X that the “extraordinary circumstances” in North Carolina – a reference to the hurricane damage – “provide a justifiable pathway for the legislature to take action.” Noel Fritsch, publisher of the far-right online publication National File, has argued that the US Constitution gives all state legislatures the power to choose electoral college members, which he told CNN he believes could create more national stability.
[...]
Concerns about violence
Incidents of political violence and threats have already occurred this year, including two apparent attempts to assassinate Trump, shootings involving a DNC office and suspicious packages mailed to election offices. In the weeks ahead of the election, some pro-Trump activists have been openly alluding to more violent chaos that they say is on the horizon. Donald Trump’s former national security adviser Michael Flynn said on a program last week that he thought Trump would win all 50 states if there’s a fair election but offered a grim prediction if the winner remains unknown for days. “I feel like people are going to go to those locations where there’s counting and there could actually be violence because people are going to be, people are so upset after 2020,” said Flynn, who four years ago drew comparisons to Civil War battlefields in a speech the day before the Capitol riot.
This CNN article is a must-read on how right-wing election deniers seek to launch January 6th 2.0 if Donald Trump loses.

Nuggets and shakes [Zak O'Sullivan]
Summary: During the F3 break something is up with Zak, so Y/N finds out and comforts him.
Started from the prompt "You’re avoiding the subject and you know it. What are you hiding from me?"
Wordcount: 1.7k
Warnings: it's kinda sad and like a liiiiitle angsty bc Zak is sad bc Williams did a shitty thing. Other than that its like cute or smt its a lovely relationship (with a little bit suggestive at the end but y/n stops it to play games lol)
Guess who lives! And it's my biiiirthdaaaay so here's a gift for you xx This got me out of my writer's block and I wrote this in a day (but! i am on @clemswinecorner-socials more often because those can get some creativity out of me even when I have a writer's block, I've got a new post ready for you there as well mwuah x) and also I graduated in the mean time so go me, and now I have time to get back to writing and the inspiration so thank you Zak! Enjoy Zak girlies :)
Ps. don't think about the title too much because I struggled making up one (suggestions are welcome)
Main Masterlist
It wasn't unusual for Zak to keep to himself like now, especially when he'd been busy and his social battery was low. Zak was a very laid back person, so people were used to him not bringing attention to himself in general, but he was usually up for a chat and often cracking jokes. He had spent a lot of time with friends and family, so you understood him seemingly wanting some time to himself, sure. What was unusual, however, was how he was distant even to you. The last race before the long break wasn't a good weekend for the British driver, his feature race ending early due to damage from the opening lap after struggling to make it into the top 10 on Friday. He'd been frustrated and quiet on the way home to England, but when you went to Spain, where you'd spend the first couple of weeks of the break, the championship went somewhat forgotten.
It was now only 3 weeks until the final race of the season came around, and you were seated next to Zak in his parents' garden as his dad and uncle were busy with the barbecue. He absentmindedly scrolled on his phone, occasionally responding to some texts with his other hand on your thigh. He wasn't physically distant, he'd never been, but there was something different between going on. Something hanging in the air, which was weird- you’ve always been very open and communicative to each other. "Zak, can you come help for a second?" You look over as his dad calls him, but Zak doesn’t seem to notice. You nudge him, "your dad needs help." Zak nods and puts his phone in his pocket standing up, his hand leaving your thigh. You watch as he talks with his family, a small smile on his face, though you could see it wasn't fully there. He was still chatting and joking around, you assumed from the way his dad was laughing, but his own smile seemed a little more forced- but maybe that was just you.
"So, how's my favourite in-law? The job going well?" You smile at Zak's cousin, who was around the same age as you, sitting down next to you. "I'm good, I'm alright. I've been having fun during this time off, but also can't wait to get back to the track with the team and Zak. And you, how's the boyfriend?" You chat for a while, until you get interrupted by your boyfriend appearing next to you with a hand on your shoulder, handing you a plate with some salad and a little bit of everything from the barbecue. "Thanks babe, looks good," you smile and you give him a quick peck. "Always for my girl," you blush and his cousin looks at the two of you fondly as Zak makes his way back. "So, everything going great between you two I assume?" You look at Zak with a sigh before looking back at her. "Yeah, we're good, I think. He's been a little off, or something, but I think it's work related. I've been wanting to talk about it but you know how things are in the motorsports world, you can't always say," His cousin looks over with a sympathetic smile. "Oh, well, you know how he is. If he's ready and wants to tell you, he will. And you can always ask," you nod as you look at his 3 year old niece, who has just come in, running up to him. "Uncle Zaaaaak!" Zak turns around and looks down with a smile. "Hey there princess!" He says and you hear an adorable squeal as he lifts her in the air. "He'd be a good dad," His cousin raises his eyebrows at you and you shake your head. "Nope, way too early, we are not having that conversation."
"Are we going too?" You softly ask Zak after you've said goodbye to his niece and her parents. "Yeah, sure, whatever you want," you grab the keys from his back pocket and rub his arm. "Alright, I'll drive. Let's say goodbye to your parents and go," You walk back to the garden, where you hug both his parents before quickly waving to his siblings. "I'll see you guys next week, right? Alright, bye!" You automatically grab Zak's hand as you walk back to his car, him going more quiet liked you'd seen at home the past couple of days. You hand him your phone with Spotify, not entirely sure what type of music he'd prefer, and drive home. "Do you want a milkshake? I could also get nuggets to share or a McFlurry. I won't tell any of the trainers," You mention when you see the exti that leads to the McDonald’s. You glance over at Zak who gives you a tight but genuine smile. "Nuggets and shake, please," you smile as you pull into the McDrive, ordering your usual favourites. "Thank you," he quietly says when you're back on your way. "Ofcourse," You smiled.
You settle around the kitchen island in Zak's apartment, with him sitting and you still standing halfway across from him. "So, how are you feeling?" Zak frowns at your question as he dips his nugget in the sauce. "About what?" You shrug, "In general," and Zak simply shrugs back. "Just normal," He just says, and you look at him once more. "Zak, is... Really, are you okay?" He looks up at you now, seeing how serious you are. "Yeah, i'm fine. Just... There’s nothing, i just need to get back into the flow, and stuff. With Williams and everything I've just... You know how it is, different people and stuff, but I can't really say," It's only when he mentions the team that you realise how much he hadn't talked about them during the past few weeks, whereas he had mentioned his F3 team. He'd been over at the factory a few times, but not nearly as much as during the winter. "Zak, is everything going okay at the teams, and during training? We've not really spoken about that stuff for a while," he quickly shakes his head- too quick. "Yeah, did you hear Williams is finally allowed to break the cost cap for the new stuff? And Prema's been doing well, did you talk to Angelina about the new LAP's? I noticed they took over some of your filming habits," He talked quickly, not allowing you to interrupt. "I did, yeah, but you’re avoiding the subject and you know it. Zak, I know this is a secretive world, or supposed to be at least, but i'm your girlfriend. If you go through something I go through it with you. What are you hiding?" Zak looks at you and you see a change in his demeanour. "I, eh, I don't... I don't think I can really..." You walk over to him, the distress clear in his voice. "Listen, I'm here, okay. I won't tell people, I just care for you. Good or bad, i'll stay," you grab chin and make him look up at you as you tell him that, and he nods. "I know. Thank you," You smile as you hug him from behind the chair. "I love you, always." He nods in response as he leans into you, rubbing your arm. "I got sacked by Williams."
You freeze at those words. "Zak..." You say as you stand by his side. "That's what you've been keeping to yourself?" You ask, already knowing the answer. He looks at you with watery eyes and nods. "My god, Zak, I'm sorry," You pull him to stand up and embrace him, feeling him relaxing immediately at your touch. You stay for a long while as the words slowly sink in. Zak is still grabbing you tightly and from the way he's hugging you you can tell how much he needed this. He softly cries on your shoulder as you hold him, with here and there sobs that absolutely break your heart.
"You don't deserve this. That's... It's a dumb decision, really, why would they do that to such a good driver?" Zak has slowly pulled back, now leaning against your chest as you hold him. "They had to choose. With the Merc juniors and Logan already there they had to make a decision and they saw more in Franco. I really don't know what next, Y/N. I don't even know if I'll make it to F2," You sigh as you hold him close. "You will. And honestly, you're gonna make it to F1 anyways, might as well make it a team that isn't the worst on the grid," Zak gives you a eye roll and a smile in response. "Okay, okay, I'm still with the team until after Abu Dhabi. But maybe, yes," he admits and you chuckle. "Alright, now that we've got that out of the way, we should do something fun, because you need that. Put on your pyjama pants and I'll grab us a game, alright? Alright, I'm changing first, you finish the nuggies!" He chuckles as you walk away to the bedroom.
"I'm coming in," You say as you open the door, a bottle of rosé and two glasses in hand, placing them beside your bed. Zak walks out of the bathroom wearing just his underwear, and you look him over. "Put on some pants," you tease and he smirks. "I know you'd rather have me keep them off," You roll your eyes as you leave the room again, grabbing the games you figured you could play. "You don't need a shirt, it's fine like that," Zak looks at you from the edge of the bed and stands up as you put the games on the bed. "Thought you'd say that," he says as he pulls you close to him by your wrist, pulling you in for a kiss. As his hands slip lower to the shorts you're wearing you pull back. "We were going to play some games, weren't we?" Zak nods as you move yourself from his grip making your way over to the bed. "Uno and monopoly, really? You know that stuff has ended relationships, right?"

Postman Mick Martinez gets more than he bargained for when he picks up a silent young hitchhiker who is unable to communicate the depths of the darkness that lurks within him. The mute stranger carries a shadowy beast who may bring about the apocalypse, but a grief-stricken Mick is preoccupied with demons of his own, including the brutal death of his beloved husband and a feisty teenage daughter with strange, supernatural powers.
Luckily, Mick's not alone. If there's one thing his friends at Brew, the local punk rock café, know, it's to face hard times head on with a daily dose of coffee and hope. Of course, hope is hard to find, and Mick’s not the only one with baggage. Between managing Brew and trying to solve her brother’s murder, his sister-in-law Maddie wants to save the world, even if it means losing herself. Ex-con barista Johnny O'Sullivan struggles with the scars of his turbulent past, unable to escape the shadow of his abusive father. Café regular and celebrity ghost hunter Caro Greene faces an existential crisis every day, as they cope with the dual demands of internet fame and regular encounters with the supernatural.
In one way or another, the Brew crew’s lives intertwine, and their bonds of friendship and love help give them the strength they need to discover the pieces of themselves they’re seeking. But there's darkness descending, and shadows are falling over the town of ValleyRidge. With the help of a friendly ghost, Mick and his friends must unravel the secrets that bind the mysterious hitchhiker's tongue and discover how to save him, each other, and the world itself.

Personally of the opinion that in a "Princess Diana's ex-husband" kind of deal, Dr. O'Sullivan isn't Roy's sister by blood but instead used to be married to his brother and the guy was such a piece of shit that Roy decided to claim her and Phoebe as family and cut him out. His former brother is now simply his sister-in-law's ex-husband. What I'm saying is I think Dr. O'Sullivan got Roy Kent and the rest of her in-laws in the divorce.

(Edited to reflect the remainder of the season, but still more more haterating than hollerating, TBF.)
SUNNY (2024): Weird, exceptionally abrasive A24/Apple TV+ sci-fi black comedy about an entitled and resentful white American expat in Kyoto, Suzie Sakamoto (Rashida Jones), whose Japanese husband (Hidetoshi Nishijima) and young son have apparently died in a plane crash, leaving Suzie with one of his company's domestic robots (the titular Sunny, voiced by Joanna Sotomura), an irritatingly chipper, reflexively manipulative, passive-aggressive, possibly dangerous device whose cutesy CGI design suffers very serious uncanny valley problems throughout. In between clashes with her disapproving mother-in-law Noriko (Judy Ongg), Suzie stumbles into a mysterious conspiracy involving the Yakuza, accompanied by a blue-haired bartender named Mixxy (singer-songwriter annie the clumsy), who's the closest thing she has to a friend.
Adapted by Katie Robbins from a novel by Colin O'Sullivan, the show does a poor job of establishing its sci-fi conceits (homebots like Sunny are apparently fairly common, but we don't ever see any others for long enough to put Sunny's odd behavior in any perspective); Jones is unbearable in an incredibly unsympathetic lead role; and the convoluted plot (which ends on a very weak cliffhanger) can never make up its mind whether it wants to be taken seriously or not. Even after 10 episodes, it's still unclear what the show is trying to be, except that its determination to sideline its Japanese characters in favor of its grating American protagonist is very off-putting. CONTAINS LESBIANS? Mixxy is gay, although her obvious desire to get in Suzie's pants suggests that she has absolutely terrible taste in women. VERDICT: I was mildly intrigued by the odd seriocomic tone, but the muddled, frequently irritating story goes nowhere, and the focus on Suzie makes it an ordeal.

hi yes i have been summoned! i've followed her for a while now, so i may be able to fill some gaps on the info for anyone who would like to know!
she's 21 and a law student, and also friends with a few f3/2 drivers because if i remember correctly she was neighbors with zak o'sullivan and have been friends since they were kids. i'm not sure if she's still dating franco, but they were dating around his win in the british gp since she made a couple of tiktoks wearing his podium cap after he left gb.
he stopped liking her posts around her birthday (early september), which was weird because he was pretty active on her account, usually commenting on every post. this led to the breakup allegations which seem to be true. he still follows her tho and so does ollie + a few more drivers.
now personally i think its too early to jump to conclusions just because of an alleged insta story, but PLEASEEEE dont be mean to this girl just because she might be dating ollie bearman. we do NOT. need another charles situation. as far as we know this girl did nothing wrong and just happens to live a life where meeting drivers is commonplace.
hi love !! thank you for your very quick and detailed answer 🥰🥰
glad to hear that she’s 21 and not 28, idk why someone said that 😭 but ahhh i see, very interesting 🤭 no yeah im with you, it’s definitely very early to assume things, but im not surprised that so many ollie fans are going crazy lol. fan-favorites like ollie are always gonna have delusional fans who get furious over their faves having girlfriends, but it’s so frustrating…. like please, this girl is making him happy and he’s very capable of making his own decisions, just support them please 😭 she did nothing wrong, she’s just a young girl trying to live her life
#like what are people even doing#istg#sending hate because you’re not her ????#grow up#thank you for the info love <333#i had a feeling you would know 🤭🤭🤭#asks!#isa <3

Lesser known Pulp Heroes.
Flash Casey (sometimes Flash Gun Casey) by George Harmon Coxe, a tough-guy newspaper photographer, the first “hard-boiled” mystery character, along with appearing in Black Mask, the character was also in B-movies, radio, and a short-lived Timely Comic book.
The Domino Lady by Theodore Tinsley, she fought crime and/or evil while wearing a black mask and white gown.
The Crimson Clown by Johnston McCulley, the creator of Zorro, C.C., was a modern (the 1930s) crime fighter, who used skills learned in W.W. I,, a .45, and a syringe full of a knockout/truth serum (later a gas gun) To rob from the unjust rich and give to the poor.
The Moon Man by Frederick C. Davis, the one who went into battle against crime with a glass bowl over his head.
Captain Satan by William O'Sullivan was sort of a harsher version of The Shadow and Doc Savage; only all of his aids were criminals and not reformed ones, who feared Cap. S more than the law, and who regularly died during the stories as more were added.
Senorita Scorpion by Les Savage Jr. is a Western character who came from a gold-filled valley that had been sealed off from the world for more than 100 years, After an opening appeared she defended it from various Western baddies.
The Patent Leather Kid little known kinky crusader character of Erle Stanley Gardner.
Masked Rider by Paul Chadwick, the M.R. was a pulp published by the company that would become Marvel Comics, an early high-concept character. He was a blend of The Lone Ranger and the Shadow, later, he was sold to Popular Publications, who redesigned him toning down the “shadow” bits, but keeping the mask and his Indian side-kick Blue Eagle.
Thubway Tham, Johnston McCulley again. Tham was a grumpy older pick-pocket with an exaggerated lisp, who, while ill-tempered and a crook, had a well-hidden heart of gold and ended up helping the innocent against big-time crooks most of the time.

Basil Rathbone and Greta Garbo in Anna Karenina (Clarence Brown, 1935) Cast: Greta Garbo, Fredric March, Freddie Bartholomew, Maureen O'Sullivan, May Robson, Basil Rathbone, Reginald Owen, Gyles Isham. Screenplay: Clemence Dane, Salka Viertel, S.N. Behrman, based on a novel by Leo Tolstoy. Cinematography: William H. Daniels. Art direction: Cedric Gibbons. Costume design: Adrian. Film editing: Robert Kern. Music: Herbert Stothart. One of the problems with adapting Tolstoy's novel to another medium is that while everyone knows the story of the title character, who throws herself under a train at the end, at least half of the book is not about her. It's about Konstantin Dmitrievich Levin, the burly intellectual who is preoccupied with the problems of a changing Russia. Though Levin's is also a love story -- he falls for Anna's sister-in-law, Kitty, who initially spurns him because she's in love with Count Vronsky, the man for whom Anna leaves her husband -- he's Tolstoy's surrogate in the novel, just as Pierre Bezukhov is in War and Peace. Downplaying Levin's role in any adaptation of Anna Karenina is as gross a distortion of the novel as omitting Pierre from an adaptation of War and Peace. But it has been done, and often, given that the melodrama of a doomed love is far easier to sell to an audience than the problems of a reformist landowner. In this MGM version of Anna Karenina, Levin virtually disappears: He's played by a tall, bland English actor named Gyles Isham, whose film career was brief and undistinguished. Kitty is at least played by a star, Maureen O'Sullivan, although her presence in the film is largely designed to introduce the character of Vronsky and to suffer disappointment when he throws her over for Anna. This was Greta Garbo's second turn at playing Anna: She had filmed a silent version, titled Love (Edmund Goulding, 1927), with John Gilbert as Vronsky. (The earlier version omitted not only Levin but also Kitty, and was filmed with two endings: In the one aimed at the American market, Anna doesn't commit suicide but is reunited with Vronsky after Karenin's death.) Garbo is the best reason for seeing the 1935 version, although MGM, with David O. Selznick producing, gave it a lavish setting, with cinematography by Garbo's favorite photographer, William H. Daniels. It opens with a spectacularly filmed sequence in which Vronsky and his fellow officers attend a banquet, with the camera performing a long tracking shot down a seemingly endless table laden with food. Unfortunately, Fredric March is miscast as Vronsky, turning the dashing young officer into a rather somber middle-aged man; he and Garbo are sorely lacking in chemistry together. The screenplay by Clemence Dane, Salka Viertel, and S.N. Behrman does what it can to pull together the pieces carved out of Tolstoy, but the ending, even Anna's suicide, feels flat and perfunctory. In the novel, Anna's disintegration, aided by isolation from society, by illnesses both mental and physical, and by her addiction to opiates, is dealt with at some harrowing length, but trimming much of that background means that she appears to be driven to her ghastly end solely by losing her young son, Sergei (Freddie Bartholomew), and by the cruelty of Karenin (Basil Rathbone). Tolstoy, of course, gives us deep background on Karenin that, while it doesn't absolve him completely, makes him far more credible than a stock Rathbone villain.

Trail of the Lost
This new book by Andrea Lankford is reviewed by Claire Shang. Here is an excerpt of her review. The book is yet another interesting twist on the Pacific Crest Trail.
How do you find someone who goes missing is the vastness of the Pacific Crest Trail? Andrea Lankford, who led search-and-rescue operations as a National Park Service ranger for 12 years, has a better understanding than most. She knows, for instance, that it's quite difficult to truly disappear: 97% of lost hikers -- alive or dead -- are located within 24 hours, and half of adult hikers are found less than two miles from where they were last seen.
Her attention was therefore caught by a trio of recent lost-hiker cases that has gone cold. Chris Sylvia, Kris Fowler, and David O'Sullivan -- all young unmarried men who disappeared in consecutive years beginning in 2015 -- were among the rare cases of PCT thru-hikers whose bodies were not found. Lankford catalogs the many attempts that she and other have made to resolve these cases. But anyone expecting the straightforward unfolding of a mystery should look elsewhere. Lankford gives us instead the story of a group of searchers "obsessed, each in our own way, until our dogged pursuit for answers jeopardized our livelihoods, our mental stamina, and our health."
Even as she sought the help of law enforcement, Lankford, who retired as a ranger two decades ago, knew to expect bureaucratic obstinance. Missing-person cases complicate the issue of jurisdiction, officers are slow to act on tips and when the subject is an adult male, "law enforcement typically concludes that the guy doesn't want to be found." Further, when hikers go missing in national forests, the responsibility for conducting a search falls on local sheriffs who have little incentive to sink resources into finding presumably dead hikers from other states or countries. (O'Sullivan was an Irish national, and it was months before a local police department claimed his case.)
The three searches, separate but often intertwined, take on a spirit of hardy vigilantism. Facebook groups buzz with leads -- when an image surfaces from a Brazil hospital of an unconscious man who looks like Kris Fowler, a Brazilian thru-hiker volunteers to drive eight hours to see if the patient has Kris's back tattoo. He doesn't, but he is revealed to be a Canadian missing person. Volunteers squint at thousands of drone photographs, flagging backpacks and bones that turn out to be shadows.
In David O'Sullivan's case, Lankford joins the efforts of others, including a former drugstore manager whose thru-hiking aspirations were thwarted by injury. Lankford, whose love of the outdoors was forever tarnish[ed]" by her ranger years, finds the idealism of volunteer searchers heartening. But the very determination displayed by amateurs to bring closure to O'Sullivan's parents at times introduces new setbacks. One self-proclaimed expert brandishes academic credentials and claims his soon-to-be patented dowsing device will locate O'Sullivan through his DNA frequencies. At another point, an "intrusive investigator" offers aid -- but the psychic is unable to identify which boulder is the one from her vision.
Even the searchers unclouded by 'magical thinking' worry whether their efforts are more hurtful than helpful to the families. Lankford herself can't account for the intensity of her commitment. As we learn, each thru-hikers sets off for a different reason. The new, frequently underprepared hikers see the trail "as less a test and more a cure," writes Lankford. Those who search for the missing might also be modeling their behavior on misleading narratives. As one grief counselor notes: "Hollywood movies tell [families] persistence pays off."
Trail of the Lost stumbles along its journey. Lankford has a propensity to overuse the adjective 'cute', and one of the sources she cites is an undergraduate thesis. But one accepts the author's idiosyncrasies because it is hard to imagine who else could have produced a work like this. Her book is a sprawling portrait of an area whose fantastical features practically necessitate the use of metaphor. Above all, this is a profile of two subcultures: hikers and their searchers, who share inconceivable tenacity and sometimes a similar desperation.
We have included stories of missing hikers in the Pacific Crest Trailside Reader: California (2011) and in Crossing Paths (2022). Particularly noteworthy is Ryan Forsythe's story of hiker John Joseph Donovan who was lost in the San Jacintos in 2005 is a fascinating read. Donovan disappearance ultimately saves the lives of Gina Allen and Brandon Day.

Axios: Elon Musk's Twitter suspends several journalists' accounts without notice
Axios: Elon Musk's Twitter suspends several journalists' accounts without notice.
Elon Musk's Twitter suspends several journalists' accounts without notice
A series of Twitter accounts belonging to journalists who cover Elon Musk and Twitter were suspended without notice on Thursday.
Why it matters: Musk has vowed to make Twitter a haven for "healthy, functioning free speech." He tweeted in April, "I hope that even my worst critics remain on Twitter, because that is what free speech means."
Details: The following accounts were suspended on Thursday night...
New York Times tech reporter Ryan Mac
Washington Post tech reporter Drew Harwell
Journalist Aaron Rupar
CNN politics and tech correspondent Donie O'Sullivan
Mashable tech reporter Matt Binder
Sports and political commentator Keith Olbermann
The Intercept tech reporter Micah Lee
Voice of America's chief national correspondent Steve Herman
State of play: The notice that appears on the now-suspended accounts reads: "Twitter suspends accounts that violate the Twitter Rules."
Many of these reporters' last tweets or stories focused on Musk and Twitter.
In response to a tweet about the suspensions, Musk indicated that the accounts violated Twitter's doxxing policy, which he revealed Wednesday after suspending an account that actively tracked his private jet.
Several of the suspended journalists' accounts had allegedly tweeted links to the jet tracker. "Same doxxing rules apply to 'journalists' as to everyone else," Musk tweeted.
What they're saying: "The impulsive and unjustified suspensions of a number of reporters, including CNN's Donie O'Sullivan, is concerning but not surprising," CNN said in a statement. "Twitter's increasing instability and volatility should be of incredible concern to everyone who uses the platform. We have asked Twitter for an explanation."
"I have no idea what rules I purportedly broke. I haven’t heard anything from Twitter at all," Rupar wrote on Substack Thursday night.
He noted that he tweeted Wednesday about the ElonJet account that was suspended from Twitter. But Rupar added, "I still don't know what policy that could’ve possibly violated."
A New York Times spokesperson called the suspensions "questionable and unfortunate."
"Neither The Times nor Ryan have received any explanation about why this occurred," the spokesperson said in a statement. "We hope that all of the journalists' accounts are reinstated and that Twitter provides a satisfying explanation for this action."
When asked about the suspension, Mac pointed to his creation of a new Twitter account under the name "Silenced Ryan Mac," where he said he was given no warning.
Axios has contacted the other reporters and/or representatives of their news organizations for comment.
Worth noting: Twitter also suspended Mastodon's account on Thursday after the latter tweeted a link to the jet tracking account on its own platform, TechCrunch reports.
Be smart: It's unclear how long these suspensions will last. Musk has said he does not believe in permanently banning accounts.
The big picture: Musk has been pushing for free speech-first Twitter since he offered to buy the company, saying he is "against censorship that goes far beyond the law."
"If people want less free speech, they will ask government to pass laws to that effect," he tweeted in April. "Therefore, going beyond the law is contrary to the will of the people."
“If it's a gray area, I would say let the tweet exist," Musk later said at the TED2022 conference in April. "In a case where there's perhaps a lot of controversy, you don't necessarily promote that tweet."
He wrote in an October note to advertisers that Twitter would not become a "free-for-all hellscape" but emphasized the importance of having a "wide range of beliefs."
