Black Mirror 7x01 Common People

In the first minutes of the episodes i was happy but also kinda worried, not even 5 minutes into the episode we got two references, first being the ADIs from Hated in the Nation and then Anyone Who Knows What Loves Is (Will Understand). Although i like them, my mind quickly wish for the rest of the episode to not give more references. I feel like too many can take away from an episode. Fortunately that wasn't the case or maybe i just didn't catch them.

"Fucking Americans" -Mike. What a mood. Chris O'Dowd kills it.

The episode really kicks off when the subject of suscription based model is introduced. And is so terrifying the fact that i can see this happening. Medical miracle turned into predatory suscription model to get the most money possible.

With the new tier: Rivermind Plus, i loudly said "fuck off", but that's how they get you, promising new stuff while making the basic tier inconvenient as possible.

Also love how susceptible children are to these ads.

I ended up loving Tracee Ellis Ross character, how she presents the new tiers, while excusing the inconveniences of the lowers ones to people like is normal

"You're running ads through me." -Amanda. I can see a company being souless enough to have thought a way to do tihs.

Also how Rashida Jones can make Amanda say the ads so seamesly is so funny.

"Fuck no, hey babe" -Mike. That comedy timing.

Kudos to the make up deparment to make Amanda look more and more tired as the episode progress.

The Rivermind Lux and that feature: Use skills and attributes sourced from other Rivermind users. is so horrifying and i believe those skill and attributes that are being sourced are from the lowest tier users.

The terror in Mike and Amanda of not having income and getting reduced a tier is palpable, I feel so horrible during that part.

When the subject of pregnancy was touched upon, i wish for Amanda to not get pregnant, that would have been so bleak. But letting go of the crib was that last thing keeping Mike and Amanda afloat.

We got a time skip where so little is said but so much is implied. Rivermind Plus/Standar now only giving 30 minutes of temporary boost, another signal of the predatory model that Rivermind is running. Mike missing a tooth and Amanda prefering death instead of the lowerst tier. Leaves to the imagination how bad had that low tier had become after the time skip.

black mirror season 7 episode 1 is peak Black Mirror. the dread, the eeriness that you can feel throughout your whole body...you know exactly what's going to happen next and that's the worst part of it because we know the pattern...the subscriptions, the new tiers, making Amanda more and more tired, the ADS. a lot of the time the Black Mirror inventions seem far away, and yeah, this one probably is too. but it feels so fucking close.

one of the bits in common people that got to me the most was her saying the ad for Nike at the little girl who couldn't afford new shoes. it was only small but fucking hell.
