Fanart! For the descent series by the amazing @birdkittenn. If you haven't read it and you love v4v, what are you doing?? Go and read it. Anyways, one particular scene was so funny to me that I decided to draw it. If you want to find out what it is, read "two machines walk into a pyramid".

I drew this piece back in August, right when I was really getting into Ultrakill; and while it's not bad at all, I can really see how my art improved in the last months (when I actually try and don't just goof around), so, yay! Please don't look too close at everything, you will find tons of mistakes. (The switched arms on V2 were done on purpose for composition purposes, tho. Please don't scream at me for that.) But it's still cute enough, so whatever.

So today I bumped on this post and wanted to share some thoughts on the subject, but the account I reblogged it from seems to be off now so I lost my post and no one sees it. Still want to keep it, so...

Sorry, with all respect, but I just don’t get it. Like … WHY should we stop asking them about the thing they actually play? What exactly so bad happens to them if we do? By the thing I mean Haladriel as a ship. They play it. Literally.

Come one, it's obvious the show itself launched the ship. Intentionally, using all classic cinematic tools to make the exact romantic subtext visible to the audience (like gestures, poses, camera angles, looks eyes to eyes, sensual whisper) so we could definitely read it as romantic even if they refuse to confirm it openly. (Due to the possible unhinged reaction of the lorebros, I’m sure) So basically the show implied romance between them from the beginning, and now since they are stepping back, we just have to be ashamed to ask questions? Surely the actors give more interviews then the showrunners, because they are the faces of the characters, their representatives, they could give you the insight no one else could give since they play it and are the most involved in their personalities and emotions. They should be able to explain their motives and thoughts. This is how the acting craft works, they must FEEL the character. This is why for fans, hearing actors discuss a ship is like hearing the characters discuss their own feelings.

See what I mean? Typical romantic cinematic hint.

So again why shouldn't we ask them? why not let the actors talk about their interpretation? Miriel and Elendil's actors shouldn't be asked about them too, or it only concerns Morfydd and Charlie for some reason?

For god sake we all know the ship is doomed, there will be no future, but still the show revolves around them, even in the end of s2 he still mentioned she's his queen. But there was not enough interaction, mostly ambiguous one that we have to explain and develop ourselves, so why should we be deprived as well of their vision and of any extra detail we would like to know from the first hands? | don't feel like it.

And I think people just need to stop decide for the actors how they feel and being overprotective over literally nothing. Shipping is a part of any fan culture. And the actors are not made of glass, they actually are even supposed to speak out. Once again: the show presented and developed the ship. The actors play the characters of this ship. They play the feelings we all see. They are aware of the subtext. They do not feel ashamed to play it. They are not ashamed to play those characters. So we don't have to be ashamed to want to know more about what they play, what they mean and what is their vision on it. There is no harm being caused.

I actually miss good all days when the actors were not considered this sensitive. like for example during the promotion of the X-MEN both Mcavoy and Fassbender got unstoppably asked like million questions about their MAGNETO/XAVIER (Cherik) ship, they were shown fanarts and fanfics, even the explicit ones, they even had to read out loud some about themselves (yeah-yeah, not their characters, but specifically real-person ship aka FassAvoy). No one got offended. One can say they even encouraged it. Homosexual ship. McAvoy was married at that time. Still they were goofing around, touching each other and hugging all the time, talking about their character bromance and generally spreading fanservice all over the fandom. They were having fun alongside with the fans. This was gold.

By the way the same story with their characters: they are a protagonist and a villain , two opposites with sort of cosmic connection, they just won’t let each other go peacefully. There is love, hate, friendship, rivalry and pain. Some fans see them as a friends/foes, shippers like me see them as lovers. This ship is giant, and thank for the actors interaction and involvement into the fandom it just got deeper and much more exciting.

Highly recommended to explore.

--That won't distract me from his impressive skills, tho. I mean, I already knew he had some cooking knowledge from Frozen Echoes (in that side-stroy where he goes ice fishing and then cooks the fish with Karu, Blade, and Eiden).

But this isn't just the rudimentary "cook a thing over a fire until it's not raw anymore" sort of situation---this is an actual understanding of how to cook something and why you should use certain methods for the best results.

My mans is fun to tease, but honestly, he deserves more credit!

Cultivate anniversary

October 27th will mark exactly one year of me posting Cultivate.

It's difficult for me to wrap my mind around this. The idea of "Wow... been an entire year?" conflicts directly with the idea of, "Wait, it's only been a year?" (Granted, I'd been writing it off and on for awhile before I started posting it, so that does mess with time perception... but still.)

I have to laugh that I've spent the last year getting excited about the idea that once I finished the fic I could sit back and get to read in the SVSSS fandom for a bit before starting to write again (thinking I would finish the rest off over Christmas and have several months of guilt-free goofing off) and yet... because of IRL being such a PITA this year, all I've been able to do is stay afloat by writing one chapter a week most of the time. I never got to get ahead and finish it as it developed... cultivated, if you will... into a bit of a monster of its own.

Zero regrets, though.

The story is a different beast than it would have been if I'd written it entirely behind closed doors, but I love the way it grew based on the reactions of the readers.

The way the reactions (and fanart) of readers brought certain characters (Mu Qingfang especially) more into the story than they were originally intended. (With full pleasure on my part - you know I love writing the platonic relationships as well as the romantic!)

The way reader speculation made me connect the dots on two unrelated pieces of information LONG before I would have connected them on my own. (Sometimes just because the reader said something off-hand and it sparked a connection in me, and sometimes just because they're clever, clever beans who figured something out even without as many clues as I had.)

The way I went ahead and pulled the trigger on some things I wasn't so sure about because enough readers seemed positive enough about the initial hints it might go that way for me to commit to it.

You all indulged me this entire way, continuing to read even as I made the story longer and longer as I put more and more things I liked into the plot. (And so many of you did more than indulge me, but egged me on.)

Cultivate isn't (quite) over yet, but in all sincerity and to the fullest depths of my heart: thank you for reading. Thank you so much for commenting or creating. I don't think I can say how much it's meant to me and how much it will always mean to me. 🥰

Uh oh, who let me into a fandom again? Who left the niche within a niche door open??? Y’all should know better.

@sm-baby’s Carnival AU for The Amazing Digital Circus grabbed me by the bootstraps with??? Inspiration??? Not only have I dodged most fandoms and the motivation to draw fanart (not that I don’t want to show support; just no ideas in the noggin), but I genuinely don’t think I’ve sat down and put a non-ironic, genuine OC for a media I like on paper since my Warrior Cats/Creepypasta era. This AU didn’t just get me to sit down and make an OC that fits with the original media, but one that fits with their derivative. I saw other people doing it and it looked like so much fuunnn.

First, have standard TADC version! Either that or a player.

This is Tuus! They’re mainly based on the beanie baby dragon to fit that sweet sweet 90s theme, but generally a mixture of beloved childhood toys I have sitting on my shelf. She’s scruffy, worn, and kinda dirty looking and that’s on purpose. She’s bottom heavy, and I wanted her wings to give off the texture of that basically-plastic shiny fabric you used to see on a lot of toys.

No mouth, but a randomly appearing lizard tongue. For fun.

Tuus deals with the circus by sleeping. A lot. Too much. If you don’t need to sleep, then you don’t need to be awake. If she’s doing to be trapped in a digital hell, she might as well be catching up on her naps. And she will sleep in the worst places. Time for a digital feast? She’s on the table. Caine wants to have an adventure in the lake? Girl is at the bottom. Sleeping with the fishes fr fr. And you need to find her one day? Nowhere to be seen, probably on the roof.

It’s playing on the whole big, lazy, sleeping dragon thing that used to be in a lot of children stories I remember. But also how well loved childhood toys seem to pop up and disappear, there when you aren’t looking but gone when you are. Her name also means “Your” or “Thy.” Your dragon.

BUT AT THE CARNIVAL?

What amusement park is complete without a gift shop? What game doesn’t have a place to buy goofy digital goods? Tuus is the big lady in charge of the gift place of the Carnival! Her room is what should have been a shop of sorts, to buy whatever products that darned company would have tried to push. Cosmetics, virtual toys, digital snacks, whatever. But, uh, I don’t think anyone told them dragons don’t like to…. share. Becoming sentient did wonders for the attitude. You should be just fine if you don’t make too much noise, though! She’s a lazy lizard, and often sleeps sprawled around the place. I imagine the level would be set up like a maze, or a labyrinth. Isles and isles of things, with peaks of a tail or smoke every now and again. Toys, clothing, and even random things that shouldn’t be in there just trash the path. It’s your job not to step on anything! It’s different each time, though (a speed runner’s nightmare). One level you might get lucky and have a straight shot with a sleeping dragon, the next there might be so many things it’s physically impossible to reach any exit at all. Potentially can get out of trouble with some digital coin™, but you’ll have to have found enough hidden in the room to forgive each “damaged item.”

Here she is much, MUCH larger and far cleaner. An oversized display never meant to be bought. A collectors item far too expensive for a child. Think “I used to be a beloved toy and now I’ve been forgotten, even forgetting myself, and this is how I cope” favor VS “I have never known the touch of a person and have been trapped on this shelf only to be abandoned and have the personality of an unsocialized dog” flavor.

She has no mouth, but she bites.

how'd you first get into LU? 👀

I’ll be completely honest with you, it’s been long enough that I don’t totally remember everything XD

But... there was a period of time when I was a teenager, where I would get on the Internet on my 3ds Internet browser because it was more private and poke around, looking for interesting Zelda things. I’d fully played oot and botw at that point and was ravenous for more, and so I would hop on whatevrr search engine was on there and look at images and be pretty content with what I found.

At some point I realized that putting “tumblr” into my searches tended to yield much more interesting results, so I started doing that, and saw all kinds of neat fanart and stuff. Some... not so much, but the majority of it was pretty cool. This was before lu or really any links meet AUs had gained quite as much traction and lu wasn’t everywhere like it is now, so I didn’t see any sign of it. I did find a different comic with two Links interacting though, and that was insanely cool to me.

Links meeting each other??? COOL.

I found the blog where this comic was, and read pretty much everything there was about it, got really attached to botw Link and tp goofing off with each other and having a grand old time. The comic has since been discontinued, and I sadly don’t remember the blog, but it was a really fun little comic, and I really liked it. I started looking for other things where Links met, but there wasn’t all that much out there at that point at all. I found Dimensional Links (which I very much recommend, it’s hilarious and awesome), and some one-off pictures of Links interacting, but no other comics, which was what I was really looking for.

I began to drift around on tumblr itself occasionally, since that got more results than just the internet browser, and scrolled through some zelda blogs, enjoying their content and stuff. I didn’t get a blog at that point (that would have been committing, and there’s always been a sense of social media is not good in my house), I just lurked around and looked at cool stuff.

I think what happened then was I found some of Jojo’s regular loz art. Pretty sure that it was the tp comic she did for that one fic, and I loved that. I hopped over to her blog, and that’s when I found the original lu designs post.

It looked vaguely familiar (I think I’d maybe seen it on some of my search engine searches), but it turned out that there was a comic attached to it?? “This has turned into a full story now”??? There were nine Links interacting and the very first comic had angst???

I jumped at that, and devoured everything that there was to read at the time. I came in somewhere around the Threatening Shadows/Mask arcs, and got violently sucked into the designs and characters and story and I’ve been here ever since lol.

It took me over a year after that to finally get a blog, and that was actually kind of because of ninjago, but I’ve been lurking around the lu fandom since sometime in 2019 :)
