I love the idea that @rey-jake-therapist has proposed: that this shot here is a callback to this one in “Adrift.” I agree that this parallel is a strong one. And that next to Galadriel’s broken body, the shadowed outline of a person, presumably Sauron, can be seen. The poetry of such a thought: not just that someone had been there, that someone was meant to be there, but perhaps that someone is there still. There’s an imprint. In another world, the unseen one, or a dream, Halbrand is there still. “He never left.”
It’s clearly shown in TROP that this is their recurring theme. Sauron is the voice that beckons her. It is his presence that she feels in her dreams. He is the last thing she senses before she awakes. It is his face that haunts her in that waking world.
And it's a beautiful and ghostly image that this is something Galadriel and Sauron share. Sleep is not only an intimate act. Aside from the obvious psychological and sexual symbolism here, the Freudian theories and incubus myth -- the implication here is the subconscious connection. In the subconscious and dream world, unexpressed desires can be revealed. Truths are uncovered. Or unrequited fantasies can live uninterrupted. Without the constraints of reality or society. And how moving is it that this is where Galadriel and Sauron are tethered?

The final exchange between Frodo and Galadriel in RoTK is hilarious when merged with the context of TRoP because the look that he gives her just screams:
'I know what you did last summer on that raft. You owe me my therapy bills for all the trauma your ex put me through. Would it have killed you to just open the fucking door for two minutes?'

Social Sauron knowing full well he can drink humans under the table acting like he's the life of the party. I miss him and his thieving self.

lowkey, other than galadriel x sauron, the relationship i want trop to explore the most is galadriel x feanor.
it can be said that feanor is to galadriel what morgoth is to sauron. would make an interesting parallel. and it's also a very intriguing, complex dynamic/history, imo.
it can be done in the flashbacks. i really want trop to give us the flashbacks into the 1st age galadriel's life to explore her relationship with her family, how she grew to be so ambitious for power, her becoming obsessed with slaying sauron for the first time and her journey around the middle-earth.

I am not blaming the writers ( blaming is not my style). Just observing and trying to articulate thoughts. I think season 2 was meant to be about Sauron and how he gets to create the rings and show how his initially good intentions set him on the road to hell. I don't think Galadriel developed much in season 2. She has experienced emotional turmoil, grieved for Halbrand, tried to rectify mistakes. But there is a lot more room for personal growth. She is still in denial about what she wants, and that made her less interesting to me to watch in S2. But that's hopefully because a transformation is coming in S3.
As for social conditioning, I disagree. I think we do have an issue with accepting female power is cool as a society. The older I get, the more I witness this, sadly. In the same way that female sport is not perceived as exciting as mens' . Even in the fanfics I am reading, which I love by the way, I have seen very little about Galadriel's growth and how she becomes an all powerful elf witch. I don't want to think this, but perhaps it could be because it's difficult for us women more generally to imagine how we make female power cool. And that has to do with social conditioning.
Sauron may be hot, but there are other hot male characters and actors who don't have the same impact. He is hot but also multifaceted. The humour/levity that Charlie brings to the character plays a big role. His character is a seducer, so we are meant to be seduced and not just because we fancy hot men (A male heterosexual friend of mine told me he thought Sauron was gorgeous! 😂). I would like to have that effect with Galadriel in TROP and Morfydd can definitely do it, given the screen time. I hope the show lets her be irresistible to us, so we all want to be her! (and not because hot Sauron is obsessed with her).
Not to be controversial, but I hate how many posts I see are about what Galadriel could have/should have done and not about what Hal/Sauron should have/could have done and definitely did.
Why should Galadriel be responsible for Sauron's possible redemption? Why is getting the girl always the condition for a man's redemption arc? Why is it always the female character's job to do things? To save them? To help them? Even in fandom space?
Why do we call this progressive? And feminist?
