there are so many minor character in hfth that just do not get enough attention. Like- there’s one character whose entire point is being Nolan’s weird undead roommate. She’s made of fireflies and acts as a real estate agent for him even though she has no experience with real estate. She worked at a grocery store when she was alive

H2: The Mines of Bloodstone (1986) calms the connection to Battlesystem. There are still a couple mass combat scenarios, but this isn’t a box, there are no chits; it is mostly a standard, if unusually high level, adventure module. It’s mostly a dungeon crawl, in fact, exploring the Deepearth laid out in the Dungeoneer’s Survival Guide (the module uses some of the rules from that guide, and the wilderness guide, as well; lots of synergy happening here which, I gotta say is both unusual and surprising for TSR).

The dungeons and caverns are…OK. The monster selection is all over the place. It feels much more like a fun house than I’m really used to seeing from this period of TSR’s history. You’d think it would settle down somewhat at the end, with mostly thematic encounters in a temple dedicated to Orcus, demonic lord of the undead. But no. It turns into a zoo of sorts, a kind of greatest monster hits playlist that includes a frickin’ Tarrasque. And Orcus himself could show up in person, if things go really badly. It’s a lot, but then I guess the module IS rated for levels 16 to 18.

Graham Nolan does the interior illustrations, which are pretty solid throughout. Keith Parkinson cover. Always loved it. I’ve been enamored of the priests of Orcus, with their goat headdresses, almost as long as I have been into D&D. The color palette is classic Parkinson and the composition anticipates some of his later work for Rifts. I also like his skill flex with the mirrored surface of the statue. A+ cover painting.

The trailer makes the same mistake as the movie (and even the poster) - Michael B. Jordan is not the main character.

(Spoilers ahead)

Promise of the premise

Gangster twins Smoke and Stack (Michael B. Jordan) return home to the Jim Crow South to open a club with young guitar player Sammie (Miles Caton). But when his blues music summons evil undead, they'll have to confront inner and outer darkness to survive.

What are its strengths?

Music is a major theme in Sinners and Ludwig Göransson's score is a powerhouse, blending old and new, blues and orchestral. In the film's best scene, physical representatives of Black music throughout history literally appear in the club.

Between the writing, cinematography and direction, Coogler continues to cement himself in the upper echelon of modern filmmakers alongside Quentin Tarantino and Christopher Nolan.

What are its weaknesses?

There are certain rules in screenwriting that exist because they work. In the first 15-20 minutes, you better make us care for and identify with the main character. You better establish primal needs for that character - sex, money, love, survival - and show us why the character will die without them, literally or spiritually.

Coogler makes a rookie mistake that all writer-directors seem to make at some point and forgets this rule. Michael B. Jordan’s Smoke character is given the most backstory and therefore dominates the advertising for the film, but:

Coogler makes us wait too long for that backstory, and

Smoke is not the main character

Coogler knows he’s not the main character too, because the film starts and ends with Sammie. Sammie's journey anchors the story. His music is what draws the vampires.

Intellectually we know he wants to play the blues, and that his religious father thinks it’s a sin, but his desire never becomes primal. We never feel it in our hearts. Not until almost an hour into the film do those primal elements like sex and survival finally arrive.

Smoke discovers that a Ku Klux Klan member sold him the barn for his club to gather all the Black people in town for slaughter. After making it through the night and defeating the vampires, Smoke goes on an Inglourious-Basterds-style rampage, massacring the Klan members.

We can certainly see the parallels drawn between the Klan and the vampires, although they accomplish different things thematically. But it leaves us wondering: why not just combine the KKK and the vampires? Maybe Coogler felt it was too obvious or lacked depth. But including the KKK storyline gives Sinners the feeling of one movie that maybe should have been two.

Does it deliver?

Ryan Coogler made a delicious cake, so to speak; the frosting just got a little buried underneath. Other vampire movies, or even Get Out (2017), have "high concept" sugar to help the medicine go down. Sinners takes a little patience to get to that frosting, but once you've digested the whole thing you'll be just as satisfied.

Who should see it?

There are horror elements, but Sinners is not particularly scary. Anyone who likes Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan collabs will find something to like here.

I wanted to post this yesterday, but I had a medical problem that has thankfully cleared now. Anyway, my ask box has always been open (no anon tho). BUT, I want to hear anyone and everyone's questions.

WICKED & UNHOLY - A CoD Zombies AU Story

Dark Aether has spread, engulfing everything it touches. Monsters, zombies, and a Dark Aether mutation plunges the world into darkness leaving only chaos in it's wake. Towards the northern mountains of Verdansk Shadow Company looks for anything that may have been left behind from the reaches of the 80’s when Adler was there. Desperate to find anything to help sway the tides of battle with the plagued undead, Velikan finds hope in the form of a village witch, supposed to have inherited “magic” from the other world. Down in ground zero of Urzikstan Nolan has been tasked with forcing scientist to figure out how to close the gates of hell and in their possession is his daughter. If he does not cooperate, Nolan will kill them and fearing for their lives, the scientist works tirelessly day and night to preserve humanity. And finally Konni is not yet done trying to take over. With whatever semblance there is left to a natural world Makarov fights. Weary of her brother’s actions, his sister does his bidding but only with the idea to help stop him. It begins with contact between her and Task Force 141 during an unlikely meeting.

Omg this took longer than I wanted SO! As a challenge to myself I tried to write a fun fact of most of my characters (both D&D and BG3), some are missing due to them being generally underdeveloped

(The * means I have already played this character in a campaign, oneshot, or in bg3)

Ace Goldstring*

My beloved lightfoot halfling, college of spirits bard, sorry about getting you involved with Xanathar and the Zhentarim. So he has teal eyes with the ghost inside as a side effect of him being a spirit medium, if he wasn't his eyes would be brown like the rest of his family.

Davhomin Siannodel Brightwood*

The first one to be made and my dearest boy whom I apparently just like to put in situations. He has a garden back in his house in Silverymoon that he loves very much and gets worried about when he has toi go far for an extended period of time, usually other members of the church of Ilmater take care of it or sometimes his dad does.

Enoch Hume

Half-elf (drow) wizard. Student of Strixhaven, Quandrix School, very very tired he needs some sleep so much, one of his counsellors is a shifter werecat(mechanically a weretiger but I just wanted to make it a calico cat) for the theory side of the school.

Heinrich von Wenninger*

Ah yes, my dhampir vampire hunter. He has a cane, it was from his old teacher whom tragically passed away, he still carries it around everywhere as a memento, the cane is also quite interesting, it's part of the gothic trinkets list from Curse of Strahd/Van Richten's Guide, so the tip can generate sparks, instead of it being magical I made it like it is a small mechanism that with enough force could generate a small fire (and that definitely didn't come back to bite me in his oneshot/j)

Icarus Nephus

My scourge aasimar, sunsoul monk whom is basically a greek demigod (child of Apollo). He knows how to play the flute quite well, he learned to do it back in his monastery in Elturel. I also change his name slightly depending if I'm talking in English or Spanish (Icarus/Ícaro)

Nolan

They're the amneciacTM character, meant to be given to the dm and see what chaos unfolds, the few things I have stablished is that he has stitches and an odd scar in their chest powering their wild magic and is mortally afraid of mirrors.

Professor Meadowheart

Teacher in Strixhaven, Quandrix School, he's known to give one of the easiest classes for the first year students and one of the hardest for the last year students. He's also Enoch's counsellor embodying the substance part of quandrix. He has a raven familiar and definitely isn't conflicted about that (Shadar Kai that basically escaped the Shadowfell).

Yín Lóng/Argentum*

My silver dragon whom was cursed to be in human form. Loves loves loves books, they canonically have a library in the abandoned temple that they live in, also the story hook for their adventure is that someone stole one of the books, a very dangerous one so they're going to retrieve it (+ being stuck in human form and trying to transform back).

Thurak*

Half-Orc Wild Magic Barbarian. I have made reference to this several times but I never get tired about talking about it, he has a broken lyre cus he tried to play music and failed. On a fun fact related to his backstory, he actually doesn't know how to speak orcish and is actually still learning common.

Mayhem*

My tiefling monk, child of a cambion and grandchild of an incubus (Inherited being able to switch between a male and female form). Used to stealing people when they were younger then became part of the same monastery of Icarus in Elturel, Mayhem arrived first then Icarus did, Mayhem was dragged into Avernus while Icarus was in Baldur's Gate. They're besties.

Sergil*

Seldarine Drow (Technically an Aevendrow) gloom stalker ranger. He a lil bitch, a lil shit/pos, he doesn't know who Drizzt Do'Urden is and at this point he's too afraid to ask.

I have a question, Mr Thorne. Let's say you, hypothetically, start dating someone, but you tell them you have to turn them into a vampire to give them your love. And they say 'yes fucj it' and you turn them into a vampire.

BUT you get tired of them but you don't know how to break up with them. Would you kill them Vampire Hunter Style™ or would you break up with them in the usual way, despite them having accepted being an eternal supernatural being just to be with you?

Well, this is a situation I've never had to deal with before, as none of my previous boyfriends ever wanted an immortal life.

But, let me tell you, I only offer to turn very special people into vampires. It isn't something I just ask every guy I start dating. If I give you the choice, it means I love you with every bit of my undead heart.

I promise the hypothetical person in this highly specific scenario that I would absolutely never get tired of him. If I chose him, he's the one I want to spend an eternity with.

The only reason I would end things with him is if he became sick of me. That would be devastating, but I'd do anything to make him happy. Except killing, my god. I don't murder, especially not those I care about.

There are methods to reversing vampirism, although I can't say I'm too knowledgeable about them. However, if this person no longer wanted to live an eternity, I would do everything in my power to turn him back into a human.

And if many years have gone by when they decide this, and their friends and family have passed on, I would use my time machine and return my beloved to the day I first turned him. He'd be able to go back and live the rest of his life normally.

(sighs) My goodness. What a depressing scenario. I would be absolutely crushed if I finally found who I thought was my one true love, only for them to change their mind.

currently being haunted by fic ideas with no time to squeeze them outta my brain like wet rag, but I also don't wanna forget them either so, cursing you to witness them too:

Invincible (s1 au)! -> Fearful he’ll die, Mark accepts his Dad's proposal. Two weeks later, the undead begin to walk. Or, Mark, morality, and mortality.

Invincible! (s1 au) -> Worried he’ll be a disappointment, Mark decided to keep his powers a secret from his parents until he’s skilled enough to show them. Meanwhile, when a new strong, undying hero shows up in the city, Nolan begins to suspect he’s not alone. Debbie, on the other hand, keeps running into a young new hero. Or, secret identity shenanigans my beloved.

Oblivion Battery! -> Character exploration, Between practice, Kei, the General, sees a video of what kind of person he's become without his memories. Quickly, the baseball team find themselves defending their resident, now absent and nor longer amnesiac, idiot.

DC! -> Literally no thoughts, just the idea of de-aged Bruce somehow ripping off Joker's ear with his teeth. Dick nearly has a stroke. Jason is somewhere between having a crisis, crying of laughter, and buying the kid a medal.

SUF! (post-canon) -> Steven and Jasper, incidentally, go back in time for a day. Guess how many times he swallows down a mental breakdown existing within a two mile vicinity of Rose Quartz.

DC! -> Bruce gets cursed. He doesn't quite know that though, mistaking it for a linger dose of fear toxin. Until, of course, his mother's body writhes along the floor, muddled by shadow and faded memory, and her blood stained, icy fingers clench onto his ankle, a ring digging into his flesh. Then, it's time to call Constantine.

DC! -> From a post floating around, Bruce time traveling back to right before Jason comes back to life, armed with the knowledge of his resurrection is soon coming, proceeds to make everyone think he's actually lost his unkind mind. Or, maybe, just maybe, digging up your son's coffin, placing it in his room, putting in motion sensors, and bringing in an assortment of daily meals and gifts insisting he'll wake up, does not inspire confidence you haven't lost your fucking marbles.

DC! -> Also based on a post. Avid magic hater, Bruce isn't exactly pleased to be chosen by the star sapphire ring. And yet, on rare evenings, there does appear a mysterious, yet comforting, Pink Knight.

Literally when I am at my fucking busiest is when I have the most ideas istg.

FINALLY had the time to thoughtfully cosplay as Makarov as seen in the BLACK CELL content. I couldn't find the exact mask, so I borrowed Nolan's. I also didn't have anything that would create a black to gold effect so I'm all black-ops here. I am thinking the skin is def OG Makarov, but a little undead. Who wants to be my Yuri? I won't hurt you this time.

Side note: I most likely won't do any unmasked cosplay on the net unless I break down and do Graves. And just because someone was impressed with my eyes, this is how I do it: eye-black (standard kind) and then apply black eye shadow with a WET brush, dab it and it literally wipes a lot of features.

Geraldine reported her and Dolly’s findings to the group, and although they didn’t seem thrilled about it, they weren’t going to make a fuss in front of the outlaws. So they gathered into position and began to move forward with their plan. Chuck secured his grappling hook around the legs of the guard standing between them and the outpost and dragged him through the hole in the wall, at which point Geraldine leapt on top of him and wrestled him into submission. Once they had him comfortably locked in place, their interrogation began. 

They learned that the guard’s name was Trevor, and that he and the others had followed a pack of roaming undead here. The undead had been attacking them and causing problems at the outskirts of their town, but some community leaders had learned how to dissuade them from attacking and keep them moving towards other sources of meat. Barley’s soldiers from this outpost were also in charge of harassing this town and keeping them up on their payments to King Barley. When it became clear that the undead had noticed the fortress and moved in to attack it, the townsfolk had made a plan: they would gather all the resources they had, and when either the outlaws or the undead had achieved victory, they would sweep in from behind and finish them off. They had been holding this fortress for about a week, and intended to continue to hold it until they could take control of the radios. 

Trevor refused to say what the radios were for, but he had told them enough. These people were desperate, and probably as tired and injured as they were. Barley’s men would certainly wipe the floor with them in a fight. This mission was as good as done. They got ready to pack up and head back to Barley’s manor when Nolan stopped them. Apparently, recon wasn’t sufficient. He ordered the party to slip inside and capture the leaders of the raiding party. It was up to them if they killed anyone else, but he planned on bringing Barley someone to blame for all of this. 

The party argued for a time, but it was clear neither Nolan or Dustin were willing to barge on this point. There was what must have seemed like a tense few seconds of silence to the outlaws, but in reality, a reckless plan was being hatched. Chuck used his psychic abilities to ask each member of the party if they would join him if he attacked Nolan. Dolly agreed anxiously, Geraldine agreed without hesitation, Prometheus said he hated them all, but ultimately relented to the plan. 

Nolan dodged a crossbow bolt from Chuck and began wrestling with Prometheus, who moved in to cast a spell on him. Geraldine impaled Dustin with her bayonet, which prompted Dolly to finish him off with her rapier. Dolly then leapt across their hideout in the grass to quickly stab Nolan, and replaced most of his neck with steel as her rapier delicately slid through his flesh. 

In a desperate attempt not to panic, the party pushed forward and made an unexpected move. They freed Trevor, and explained to him that they wanted to parlay with his leaders and make peace with any enemies of Alexander Barley that existed on this world.

Oh man, and that drive after Elysium. That was a mess.

So here I am, with, a bunch of folks I’ve never met, driving to Wexner’s mansion, when a Mage with a grudge rips off the hood of this nice lady’s car and tries to impale me.

This guy. Ohoo ho, this guy. Let me tell you about this guy.

See, Me and Avi went to Ikea the other day, with some nice undead folk we met there; when this mage comes up and traps us in the hallways in the ikea. We escape only after bein forced to make a deal with ‘im: stop a murder in Elysium.

So we’re fighting this guy, and it aint going too badly ‘cept for the fact he floats. Rhianon got chased by a tree, and got separated from us. This lanky gal with the squirrel asks me to throw her at the mage? It might've been a joke, but I didn't have any other options, so I decided to chuck her and hope for the best.

*ahem* so yeah it was going great. We had ‘em on the ropes! And then, the cavalry arrived! Lemon, Viola, Nolan, and another blonde burly looking fella joined us for assistance.

… Well, the two with guns missed all their shots, Lemon did nothing, and Viola, did some mind trick and made everyone else stop fighting the mage! So he got away. *Sigh*, anyway though. Don't look like the Mage was gonna come back for us. We roughed him up good.

Viola said it was some power of friendship skill, but that's some crazy powerful Malkavian crap from someone whomst I don't know whose side they're on.

Anyway, I went off and followed my Malkavian, Mina, as she started Rhianon’s now stolen car. I texted the group chat to let her know, she seemed fine, and she was the one gunning to go to the house first, so there we went.

And went just as well as the rest of the night. We wandered in, expecting an empty mansion, when not even two steps into the forest I got shot at, and pinned to the ground by an enormous gargoyle made of stone.

What a wonderful mess.

With Harper's dad being SimCity's chief of police, everybody in Pinaccle Peaks is wondering what happened for her to accept a job in the middle of nowhere.

For Harper the middle of nowhere was exactly the point: Her dad never wanted her to join the police force. In his mind her path in life was already decided: After getting her degree in psychology she would meet a man that came from a respectable family, marry him, be a loving wife and mother and live the good life.

When she completed her training at the police academy it became clear that her dad would used his connections and status to keep her at the desk and away from "real" police work.
