Official Trailer

The show will follow Elena Santos, played by Mariel Molino an 18-year-old woman with a unsettling past. She is trying to navigate her way into becoming an nanny living in the home of wealthy family members in Manhattan. It quickly becomes apparent all the people living in the house has dangerous secrets and a motive. What they aren't aware of but is that Elena is hiding an unsettling secret about her own.
Review:
"The Watchful Eye' starts off well when a wealthy lady commits suicide by jumping off of her apartment. After that, we observe that the patriarch conducting interviews with hundreds of nannies to be his son. Elena is chosen for the position however, we learn that she's worked with her boyfriend detective to achieve nefarious goals. The various characters in the high-rise apartment are slowly presented to us and many of them are intriguing and mysterious. The plot involving the basement of the building, which has a horror-themed tinge and is bizarre in its own in its own right, is a parallel story. There is a small chance it will get better and get more interesting with subsequent episodes, but from the two initial shows that streaming services released, there is the possibility that people are likely to stop watching after the first two. The plot of the show is handled in a monotonous manner and has the look and look of a telenovela Spanish soap operas on television.
If you mix the plot of 'Only murders within the building' with the 'Pretty Little Liars' series, the result is a horrible The Watchful Eye.' The final product could be enjoyable If more effort had been taken to remove the'soapy style of the show. The opening episode shows that Elena along with her boyfriend detective Scott are in search of an unidentified ruby, but there is no background information. The Greybourne family, with whom Elena is an nanny, is mysterious to the core and no details are given about them; there are no breadcrumbs to help solve all the pieces of puzzle. There's no reason provided to form an opinion regarding the character, regardless of whether the are decent or bad.
The Watchful Eye Season 1 Plot
The plot of the new TV show centers around Elena's life. One of the richest families in town has hired an intriguing young lady to serve as their nanny. She has the proper strings to join to the Mathews Family, but she doesn't smugly go through the process of becoming an nurse. But Elena has a mysterious past and her decision to be a nanny an integral part of her well designed plan to conceal her identity. As the story progresses the story becomes more complex. The character quickly realizes that she's not only capable of concealing her horrible background, but also permitting it to coexist.
Watchful Eye Season 1 Release Date:
According to the stories that that we have from the storyline fragments, The Watchful Eye series' release date is scheduled for the 30th of January. It's not a good idea to miss the launch to the show. It is possible to join an account before the show's debut on Disney on which it is possible to watch the show. The next series will be designed to steal Elena's story and reveal the secrets beneath.

Freeform Shakes Up Programming Lineup: 'Single Drunk Female' and 'The Watchful Eye' Canceled
In a recent shake-up at Freeform, the Disney-backed network has made the decision to cancel two of its popular series, 'Single Drunk Female' and 'The Watchful Eye'. These cancellations come as a surprise to fans who have been eagerly following the shows. 'Single Drunk Female', which had successfully run for two seasons, revolves around the life of Samantha Fink, a 20-something alcoholic portrayed by Sofia Black-D'Elia. After experiencing a public downfall at a New York media company, Samantha is left with no choice but to move back in with her overbearing mother, Carol, played by Ally Sheedy, in Greater Boston. The series takes viewers on Samantha's journey of self-discovery and sobriety, as she strives to overcome her past mistakes. The show also features a talented ensemble cast, including Rebecca Henderson, Sasha Compère, Lily Mae Harrington, and Garrick Bernard. The decision to cancel 'Single Drunk Female' comes as a surprise to many, considering its popularity and critical acclaim. Created by Simone Finch, the series has garnered a devoted fan base and was executive produced by Jenni Konner, Daisy Gardner, Phil Traill, Nora Silver, and Leslye Headland. Its second season premiered in April, with all episodes released on Hulu, further expanding its reach and viewership. Similarly, 'The Watchful Eye' has been met with disappointment as fans learn of its cancellation after just one season. The show, created by Julie Durk and described as a Hitchcockian contemporary thriller, follows Elena Santos, portrayed by Mariel Molino, as she embarks on a job as a live-in nanny for an affluent family in Manhattan. Unbeknownst to Elena, the elegant building where she resides harbors dark secrets and hidden motives among its wealthy inhabitants. As the series progresses, Elena's own mysterious past comes to light, further intensifying the intrigue. The talented cast includes Warren Christie as Matthew, a grieving architect, and Kelly Bishop as Mrs. Ivey, a formidable force in The Greybourne building. Critics and viewers have praised 'The Watchful Eye' for its gripping storytelling and atmospheric tension. Emily Fox, known for her work on 'Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist', serves as the showrunner and executive producer, while Ryan Seacrest Productions, led by Ryan Seacrest, Nina Wass, Andrea Shay, and Jeffrey Reiner, also lent their expertise as executive producers. Jeffrey Reiner, acclaimed for his work on 'Dirty John', directed the pilot episode of the series. Produced by ABC Signature, 'The Watchful Eye' made its debut in January, capturing the attention of audiences with its compelling narrative. The cancellations of 'Single Drunk Female' and 'The Watchful Eye' mark a significant change for Freeform. While fans may be disappointed by the network's decision, they can still enjoy the existing seasons of both shows, appreciating the talented actors, captivating storylines, and the creative teams behind them. As Freeform looks towards the future, viewers eagerly anticipate the network's next move, hoping for more innovative and engaging content in the coming seasons. Read the full article

ROJAZ
ROJAZ is a Spanish flavoured artist currently based in London. She sees herself as a mix of artists like BANKS, Sabrina Claudio, and Rendez-Vous at Two. Soothing and sensual vocals paired with conversational lyrics, her new single ‘Gravitating’ is out now. "’Gravitating’ is about the push and pull dynamic of two people who don’t want to say goodbye, despite knowing they should”, she says. Strong synths and raw vocals create an impactful track, whilst layers of harmonies carefully guide you through the narrative. Listen below.
VERAH
VERAH is a 20 year old singer-songwriter from New York. Having sung and studied Jazz since she was 14, her music is heavily influenced by the smooth vocals of Nina Simone and the rhythmic genius of Herbie Hancock. Some of her current influences include Amy Winehouse, H.E.R. and Snoh Aalegra. Lastest single ‘Too Late (It's Not Easy)’ features the smooth R&B vocals of VERAH as she sings about love gone wrong over a deep, groovin' beat. Her sixth single to date, the song explores the duality of knowing you deserve better but hurting at the same time. Listen below.
Blakkheart
Blakkheart is a music producer, engineer and vocalist based in Cork. Everything you see and hear from the artist is done in its entirety by her (right down to the artwork) from her plant emporium home studio. After touring as a session musician and vocalist she began to hone her production skills. Luxuriously dreamy, electronic glitter disco, inspired by Prince and Kylie Minogue - ‘Not To Your Taste’ was composed on a Roland Juno DI hardware synthesizer in Blakkheart’s plant emporium/home studio. “Gave my life to you/ Pipe dreams can be cruel/ Was it hard to watch/ As I lost and lost” - a lament to the life you envisioned inside your head; and the unwelcome realization that this may never materialize,” says Blakkheart. Listen below.

MBG
MBG is an alt-rock artist and multi-instrumentalist based in Brampton, ON. Behind the scenes she writes, records and produces her own music but brings it out in its purest form on stage with her band of talented friends. She goes against the grain with her own loud, edgy and unique sound. She has this to say about her new single ‘This Time’: "In the chorus, my friends tell me it's not my fault, to stop blaming myself. I've recently gone through a relationship that was unfortunately cut short and has left me with the idea of what could've been and for someone with anxiety, always pondering on the what if is a very hard itch to scratch. In the heat of the moment, you look back and think "wow, I've done something wrong that ended this thing," but later come to understand that it's totally valid that they don't want to be with you, for whatever the reason is. Whether you're falling in love or losing someone in your life, there can be this sense that you're spiraling out of control. Every now and then, you kind of just have to let it hit you like a ton of bricks. So if you want to mosh to this song with your roommate, or have a good cry alone in your bedroom, that's okay." Listen below.

GLOCHELR
GLOCHELR is an R&B singer-songwriter from London, and her latest single ‘Closure’ wass perfect for Valentine’s Day. “The song focuses on the search for ‘closure’ and explores all the pain and uncertainty that comes with giving your all to someone who may not even want it,” she explains. “In all, sometimes the feelings go, but the trauma stays indefinitely and it’s up to you to deal with that.” Listen below.
Lemon Lord
Lemon Lord is a pop music artist based in Los Angeles. She released her first album Be Blonde in November last year. Her mantra, "To Infinity and Be Blonde," is a reminder to us all that we can do anything we dream of and we can be any version of ourselves that we choose along the way. This mantra is echoed in her song ‘Queen’ in the lyrics of the chorus, which say, "You just gotta live life like a Queen/ Ooh you can do it/ Baby it's done/ If you put your mind to it." Listen below.
Serena Sophia
Serena Sophia has been in the music, theatre, acting industry for a number of years. She studied music at the University of Glasgow and then went on to study a Masters in Musical Theatre at The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. She has always written lyrics and music, but it was throughout 2019 and 2020 she finally found her sound and discovered who she was an artist and was finally ready for her first release. 'Diary of Thoughts' is a song about heartbreak, loss, love and also strength. The lyrics were derived from sections of diary entries from 2018 which was an especially difficult year for Serena due to a toxic relationship and break up. “The song is so personal to me as it describes the emptiness, pain and heartbreak I felt throughout that time but also the moment I decided to finally take care of myself and control of my life and my own happiness,” she explains.

imojen
imojen (she/they) is a 22 year old non-binary, feminist, singer-songwriter. Raised in Switzerland and now based in Brighton, UK, imojen has been musical for the most of their life. Inspired to write her first song after hearing Florence + the Machine’s ‘Shake It Out’, imojen’s lyrics seek to expose the awkward and spectacular details of a queer femme existence. Relationships, sex, the body and identity are all key themes in their music. Through rich vocal harmonies, strong melodies and captivating language, imojen weaves a truly unique sound and experience. ‘Angus’ is an open letter. An unapologetic, feminist ballad, that accuses men of passing down their misogyny to their sons. Inspired by artists such as Lucius and k.d. lang, imojen’s vocals and tangled harmonies are positioned as the focus of the piece as she depicts woodlands, country clubs, wildfires and graveyards in a haunting protest. Tracing a map of her emotional journey, imojen reveals cynicism, rage, malice and contempt, but shows no signs of weakness. Indulgent and imaginative, ‘Angus’ creates a space for fantastical vengeance, empowerment and escape. Listen below.
Amy Ellen
Amy Ellen is part of the emerging Irish indie-folk scene. Hailing from Dublin, her music is inspired indie-folk artists such as Laura Marling and Fleetwood Mac. Her new single 'This Life' is a coming of age pop-rock tune which conveys a sense of maturity and realisation that nothing good will last forever. In Amy's words: "The song is inspired by true-life events, it touches on losing and gaining people in your life and outlines that some moments become memories we cherish and reflect on. I feel that it's a subject that everyone can relate to, sometimes we fail to see the impact others have on us until they are no longer present and vice versa". Instrumentally, the song features punchy 90’s rock elements, a contrast from Amy’s latest acoustic driven songs. Listen below.

Hinflug: 2. Teil!
Also: Als das 1.

WORK WIFE (ordered to pilot)
The story of a platonic male-female team whose professional success, personal friendship and ability to share deodorant makes their lives work. Set in the world of real estate, Dani and Scott have taken the leap to start their own team. Now feeling the stress of being the boss, they have to rely on the yin-yang of their dynamic more than ever to keep their professional and personal lives afloat.
Cast (thus far)
Angelique Cabral (Life In Pieces) as Dani, is the co-owner of a small real estate company in Cincinnati, Ohio with her longtime business partner and best friend Scott. They’re new bosses, making it up as they go along and not always getting it right. Dani is also a wife and the mother of two kids (10 and 6) and the breadwinner of her family. She’s smart, driven, and a bit of a tornado as she tries to balance all the demands of her busy life. Sometimes all the pressure can cause her to comically take it out on her adversaries, but she’s fiercely loyal and has the ability to make co-workers feel like family. (Mar 11)
Tone Bell (Disjointed) as Scott, who is handsome, single and charming. He is the “fun boss” to Dani’s “boss boss.” Since his personal responsibilities are few, Scott has time to have a great lifestyle – like taking girlfriends to Mexico for the weekend and curating his office with the latest design elements. Even though he loves his life, underneath he longs for what Dani has – a loving relationship, kids and a place to call home. As long as they aren’t messy. (Mar 11)
Christopher Gorham (Insatiable) as Alex, Dani’s husband and stay-at-home dad to their two kids. Alex is comfortable in his role of at-home parent, but his more traditional family doesn’t totally get it. Alex and Scott are close friends – working out together, dreaming of opening a brewery together. Dani likes how close the two men in her life are, as long as they don’t talk about her when she’s not around. Alex is sometimes jealous of Scott’s freedom and fabulous life but wouldn’t trade his wife and kids for the world. (Mar 11)
Annapurna Sriram (Billions) as Rebecca, a young agent in the real estate office who has a win at all costs mentality. She’s a first generation American who feels pressure from her parents to succeed. She’s so focused on her career that she has not had many life experiences or boyfriends, even though they keep pursuing her. Over the course of the series, Rebecca is going to learn how to loosen her grip ever so slightly and attempt to have relationships with other human beings. (Mar 11)
Matt Shively (The Real O’Neals) as Travis, Dani’s cousin and de facto head of marketing. Travis is the opposite of Rebecca. He’s friendly and open to everyone, but isn’t sure what he wants to do with his life. He isn’t even sure he wants to have this job, even though he likes the people he works with, especially Rebecca. He has a huge unrequited crush on her that Joy tries to talk him out of. While Travis is a bit of a screw up, his energy makes him a delight to have around. (Mar 11)
Maile Flanagan (Lab Rats) as Joy, the administrative assistant at Dani and Scott’s real estate office. Joy is very sweet on the outside, but has a dark side lurking underneath. She’s recently gone through a divorce and is restarting her life. She reads a ton of self-help books and is great at giving out advice even if she can’t take it herself. Joy’s a valued team member because of her enthusiasm, although sometimes she struggles setting and respecting boundaries. (Mar 11)
Kelly Ripa (Hope & Faith) will recur as Bobbi Gold, Dani and Scott’s former boss and current nemesis. Bobbi is the queen of Cincinnati real estate. She’s larger than life, takes no prisoners and lives by her motto “Go For The Gold.” (Mar 11)

Insatiable Renewed For Season 2 By Netflix
Netflix has ordered a second season of its series Insatiable, from creator Lauren Gussis and CBS TV Studios. The dark, twisted revenge comedy starring Debby Ryan, Dallas Roberts, and Alyssa Milano, will return in 2019.
Like Netflix’s drama series 13 Reasons Why, Insatiable has attracted both strong viewership — judging by available streaming data — and controversy. 13 Reasons Why, which had been criticized for its depiction of teen suicide, bullying, drunk driving and rape, was recently renewed for a third season. Similarly, Insatiable, which was accused of “body-shaming,” has landed a second season.
Insatiable, which started as a 2017 CW pilot before landing a Netflix series order, centers on Patty (Ryan). For years, she has been bullied, ignored, and underestimated by those around her because of her weight. But now that she finds herself suddenly thin, Patty is out for payback against anyone who has ever made her feel bad about herself. Bob Armstrong (Roberts), a disgraced attorney whose true passion is coaching beauty pagea
nt contestant, is the only one who sees Patty’s potential, and takes her under his wing — first as a legal client, and then as a pageant contestant whom he coaches toward becoming the top pageant queen in the country. But Bob and his wife Coralee (Milano) have no idea how deep Patty’s rage goes, or how far she will go to exact revenge on anyone who has ever wronged her. Bullies beware: payback’s a bitch, revenge is sweet, and if you cross Patty, you’ll be her next treat.
The cast of the series also includes Christopher Gorham, Erinn Westbrook, Michael Provost, Kimmy Shields, Irene Choi and Sarah Colonna.
Gussis executive produces with Ryan Seacrest, Nina Wass, Andrea Shay, Todd Hoffman and Dennis Kim.

New Post has been published on News Media - Fun and Entertainment
New Post has been published on https://www.xoombs.com/music/midnight-sky-miley-cyrus
Midnight Sky "Miley Cyrus"
“Midnight Sky” is a song by American singer Miley Cyrus, released on August 14, 2020, by RCA Records as the lead single from her upcoming seventh studio album She Is Miley Cyrus. The disco, synth-pop, electropop, and pop rock song was written by Cyrus, Ali Tamposi, Ilsey Juber and Jonathan Bellion with song’s producers: Louis Bell and Andrew Watt.
Background and release
On August 4, 2020, Cyrus posted on social media a clip of the music video for her song “Start All Over” with the hashtags “#sheiscoming” and “#butforrealthistime”, in reference to her long-delayed seventh studio album She Is Miley Cyrus. Later that day, she shared a preview of “Midnight Sky” on social media. The track was released on August 14 as planned. The song and video were inspired by other female musicians, such as Stevie Nicks, Joan Jett and Debbie Harry, specifically, Nicks’ song “Edge of Seventeen”. Cyrus reached out to Nicks before release, asking for her blessing of the song. In an interview with Hits 1, the singer explained the song’s background, stating:
You just definitely want to feel like you are just in control of your own life and not trying to control anyone else’s, so for me to be able to really have a good, clear understanding of the last two years, which there was some traumatic experiences – losing the house in Malibu and going through a really public breakup – I think I just really needed some clarity. And so it was just really important to me to be able to like really sit with my thoughts.
Composition and lyrics
“Midnight Sky” is an uptempo “Prince-esque” disco, pop, synth-pop, electropop and pop rock song with “gritty”, “raw” arena rock vocals and “pristinely glossy” production. Written in the key of E minor, it has a tempo of 110 beats per minute, with Cyrus’ vocal range spanning from the low note of D3 to the high note of D5.
Its lyrics are inspired by Cyrus’ divorce from Liam Hemsworth and relationships with Kaitlynn Carter and Cody Simpson, and show the singer “tak[ing] back her narrative” and being confident in herself. She also revealed in an interview in Alex Cooper’s “Call Her Daddy” podcast that her desire was for the song to be an anthem that normalized Pansexuality and provided visibility for those living in fear of rejection over their authentic selves.
Cyrus described the song as a “reflection of everyone kind of having this personal kind of woke moment” during an interview on the Zach Sang Show, where she declared:
I feel like a lot of us are waking up. And you know, the midnight sky, I think is kind of a road that feels like it could be nice to take with our head up in the clouds. You know, I feel like right now in society, we don’t want to live with our heads in the clouds. But I think in time that’s maybe why I’ve created worlds like this. Because this is kind of my idea of living with my head in the clouds of my own kind of fantasy and the world I wanna create.
So I think that it’s a cool message, to tell people to create the environment and the world that you wanna live in and I think that’s happening on a very political level right now. But also we can do it especially in this quarantine time, in these intimate spaces of our home that we have a place that feels like we’ve created our own environment, our own head in the clouds, so this is mine.
Critical reception
“Midnight Sky” has received critical acclaim from music critics upon its release. Alex Gallagher of NME described the song as an “assertive disco-tinged bop”. Praising its lyrics he stated, “The lyrics to ‘Midnight Sky’ see Cyrus asserting control and independence, with the singer declaring ‘I was born to run, I don’t belong to anyone/ Oh no, I don’t need to be loved by you,’ on the track’s rousing chorus”.
Michael Cragg of The Guardian called the song a “disco-tinged, post-divorce banger”, commenting that it “sounds suitably refreshed after the double-meh of 2017’s country singer rebirth and last year’s, erm, ‘Cattitude’, ‘Midnight Sky’ is everything all that wasn’t: impassioned, energised and delivered by someone brave enough to sport a platinum-blonde mullet”.
Nina Corcoran of Consequence of Sound described “Midnight Sky” as a “Flashy Synthpop Number” stating “Midnight Sky is a flashy synthpop number that’s arguably sleeker than anything Cyrus has released before”.
Mike Wass of Idolator described the song as a “Dreamy Disco Anthem”. He praised the personal lyrics stating, “The first taste of MC7 is a deeply autobiographical account of the pop star’s emotional journey post-divorce”.
Promotion
A preview of “Midnight Sky” was released to coincide with the launch of Instagram Reels, a video-sharing service similar to TikTok, on August 6, 2020. On August 31, the Midnight Sky Truck, an experiential pop-up, appeared in Los Angeles, with various influencers sharing photographs and videos of themselves in the truck.
Commercial performance
In the US, “Midnight Sky” debuted at number 14 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming Cyrus’ 14th Top 20 hit in the country and 50th entry on the chart, making her one of the artists with most Hot 100 entries. The song also became her best solo debut on the chart since “Malibu”, which took 10th place in 2017, although in the meantime the singer had also reached 13th place with “Don’t Call Me Angel”, along with Ariana Grande and Lana Del Rey.
In its first week “Midnight Sky” was the 20th most heard song in the United States in streaming and the third most downloaded legally. The single debuted at number three on Billboard Hot Digital Songs chart after only Cardi B’s “WAP” with Megan Thee Stallion and Morgan Wallen’s “7 Summers”, another release of the week.
In the United Kingdom, the song debuted at number 15 on the UK Singles Chart for the issue dated August 21, 2020 and reached the number 10 in its fourth week there, becoming Cyrus’ sixth Top 10 hit in the country.
“Midnight Sky” also debuted at number 16 in Australia, number 13 in Canada and number four in Scotland.
Music video
An accompanying, self-directed music video for “Midnight Sky” was released on August 14, 2020. It features Cyrus in various settings, such as a room with mirrors, a “colorful” gumball pit and a neon disco setting with streamers and Technicolor statues of jungle animals, while wearing a mullet, glittery makeup, black Chanel bodysuit, Swarovski gem-covered black gloves.
In a radio interview with Chris Kelly for Toronto’s KiSS 92.5, Cyrus said that the bubblegum in the video represents “[her] being lost in the bubblegum pop scene” and that the disco ball reflected that “it’s this kind of broken pieces that were put back together to make something whole again”.
Live performances
Cyrus performed “Midnight Sky” for the first time at the 2020 MTV Video Music Awards on August 30, where she swung on a disco ball, in reference to her 2013 song, “Wrecking Ball”. High Hues and Fumes (4/20)
a/n: happy 4/20, I wholeheartedly believe Pete smokes pot. Summary: Sonny comes clean about his deal with Pete, but it might be too late Warning: whoops made it angsty, cannabis mentioned, cursing, inclinations of police brutality annnnnd it's a rough draft so you know, raw-uneditted shit.
w/c: 2544
The gaseous smells of paint trickled out between small alleyways where apartment building met apartment building. No one could smell it, the sickly chemical scent was buried under the smog of cars, big buildings, pollution but that was New York for those who lived there. New York was a shithole, it spots where people made an effort to look nice. The city rich sprinkled potpourri over the places where the shitstains didn’t stink to much. They glorified the idea of a big city with diverse joys.
Joys only tourists and the rich can benefit from.
It was here where the smog hung low, where the police sat on corners waiting for a slipped up teen, where the chemical spray cans made their mark on walls, where Pete lived his life. Pete’s life had been one bad move after another. He dropped out of school after hanging with the wrong crowd. He was constantly being chased out of stores and chased down by cops. The only place Pete was safe was among his people. No one in this little strip of pavement ratted Pete out. He was one of those ‘harmless’ thugs. Just a little nobody kid that wasn’t going to do much trouble, it would have been too much effort to throw him to the dogs.
All of the bad moves Pete made in life mirror all the right strokes he made with his paint can. He ran his hand over his paint splattered sweats that hung dangerously low on his waist. The top of his boxers exposed, as the elastic squeezed his bony hips. He stared down his next canvas, a dead end alley between two buildings. A huge, unmarked brick wall in a dark, dank dump spot. Perfect.
“Yo.” He spoke without looking back. “Wass’ good, Sunshine.” “Maaan” Sonny groaned, he had tried to be extra sneaky this time. Sonny swore Pete had ears like a hunting dog but Pete knew he was no hunter. Not on these streets, Pete had ears of a prey animal. He had senses of survival. Sonny felt a blush grace the tops of his freckled face, flustered he turned his hat forward and pulled the brim down. “How did you even know it was me?”
Pete looked over his shoulder, paint can in his hand. He shook the can as he deliberately made Sonny wait for his answer. “I felt you” he smirked, Sonny’s face took on a confused look. He turned back to his wall finding the urge to paint something. Sonny did that to him. Pete meant it, he felt him coming. Sonny filled the room like sunlight. In this dark, damp ghetto Sonny was like...a lotus flower. A budding beautiful thing growing out of muck and mud of shit and poverty. Would it be too cliche for Pete to say Sonny was the best thing that happened to him? Because it was true. Sonny was Pete’s muse. He couldn’t paint a thing without thinking ‘would Sonny like this?’
“You felt me, well did you feel this!” Sonny lunged towards him and roughly pounced on Pete. He forced the guy to stumble a bit, while Sonny took the chance to wrap his arms around him. He hugged him from behind and poked his head over Pete’s shoulder eyeing the wall with only a few streaks of blues over it. “Whatcha paintin’ picasso?”
“Hm dunno yet.” Pete looked over the blues and wonder what they’d be. He didn’t start a thing knowing what he would make. He waited for the wall to call him to, for the paints to speak to him. “What do you see?” He peeked over at Sonny who looked at even random streaks like a Monet painting. Sonny had enough belief to make every tag a piece of work.
“I see a rainbow.” “...Sonny you’re fucking gay.” Pete chuckled, “you’re welcome~”
“As a matter of factly I’m bisexual. Cuz’ Nina is still hot” Sonny smirked a bit feeling Pete angrily rip Sonny’s arms off him. He started spraying the wall angrily. If his face got any hotter it would have caught fire from the mix of heat and chemical spray. “But I’m in love with this cutie right here.” Sonny slapped Pete’s butt, only getting a grunt in response. “But seriously, man, I see a rainbow...like you got that dark blue--” “Violet.” “With that other blue--” “Indigo” “Ok, Pete, I ain’t the artist here, das you boo.” Sonny backed up a bit and watched his boyfriend get to work. Sonny climbed on top of a closed dumpster and watched magic happen. Sonny was in love with his boyfriend’s mind. The way he could look at a wall and a couple of colors then boom, art. He was a creator, like a god. He made something that spoke out of nothing. That mind saw things that weren’t there like a ...a magician. Pete was one of those things in the ghetto Sonny called a gem.One of the kids that Sonny knew if he was given half of the shit they deserved, alittle more attention, a little more help, Pete would have been in art school. Pete would have been famous.
At least to Sonny, Pete was somebody. Sonny leaned back against the dumpster and listened to the hissing of the paint cans, the clattering as Pete shuffled between colors. He closed his eyes for a few minutes and slowly he felt a pair of lips against his. “Yo, it's done.” He moved off the top of Sonny.
“Jesus Pete…” Sonny sat up and looked over the art. It was basically like the starry night painting Sonny had seen once. Except the stars were more like suns, and the colors weren’t muted blues and night colors. They were vivid, hot shades of the rainbow. “...it's amazing.”
Pete rolled his eyes and began rummaging through his pockets. “You say that about everything I make.” “Thats cuz’ you’re talented...you’re like...the Banksy of our generation.” Sonny watched as with a small arched eyebrow as Pete placed a small, brown cigarette looking piece between his lips.
“Who?” Pete chuckled, he pulled a lighter right after and lit up his blunt. He could feel Sonny’s wry gaze on him. He puffed a few times, watching his good boy of a boyfriend eye the street watching for the police. “Hey…” He pulled the blunt out of his mouth and wiggled his eyebrow. “Gimme a beso, baby” “Pete, you’re gonna get caught and you’ll be kissin’ bars soon.” Sonny grunted, though the half lidded gaze Pete gave him undid his conscience. He hopped off the dumpster and stood in front of Pete, his fingers reaching for the blunt. His fingers grabbed nothing, Pete pulled away and took another drag holding the smoke in his mouth. “That’s how it is?” He frowned as Pete smiled with his cheeks puffed up with cannabis fumes. Sonny leaned in and kissed him, his tongue forcing the vault of his mouth to open.
The first thing he tasted was the weed. The taste of the plant smoke hit the back of his taste buds and sent a small cringe to his face. It was bitter, but that was quickly masked by Pete’s taste. His mouth hot from taking hits right from the blunt, it made Sonny only want to kiss him more. Their weed boated tongues lazily battled it out. They exchanged breathy kisses, Pete periodically pulling away to take another drag from the blunt and share more smoke with Sonny.
Weed was only fun if Pete was sharing otherwise Sonny never smoked.
Soon the drug kicked in, and Sonny felt that wave of chill come over him. His senses diluted in some places and heightened in other. He felt a calm and sleep like happiness wash over him. “You’re such a pothead…” Sonny giggled, wrapping his arms around Pete’s neck. He hung there for a moment letting Pete’s body hold him up as he laughed. “Petey~ the pot~ head~”
“I ain’t a pothead, I can stop any time.” Pete smirked, “I’ve got a better drug right here.” He kissed all along Sonny’s neck. “I got a handful of sunshine.”
Sonny felt like Pete’s sun. As if he really was the center of this man’s world. “I love--”
Woop Woop, that was the sound of the police.
“SHIT.” Pete quickly peeled himself off Sonny and started tossing paint cans back into his bag. He should have been faster, he jumped on top of the dumpster and pulled the fire escape ladder down. “Sonny, lets go.”
Sonny was not meant for the streets. Usnavi did a good job keeping Sonny on the straight and narrow most of the time, so running from the police was still one of those ‘frozen in fear’ moments for him. He snapped out of it and started towards the dumpster when he noticed the blunt was on the ground. Pete must have dropped it. In a moment of hurried anxiousness he grabbed the blunt, so there would be no evidence for the cops. He couldn’t risk them trying to run DNA and catching Pete. Not that they would but the cops these days looked less and less like they were on the side of reason and logic. Sonny kept the joint tight in his hand as he scaled the fire escape with Pete. The took it to the rooftop and walked across to the other side ofthe building and shimmied down the other firescape. They did this several times, weaving between buildings, climbing up and down.
No wonder Pete was fit. It wasn’t an easy life. Sonny felt his arms and legs burn like he had ran a marathon. They reached the De La Vega corner store and Pete stopped there. “I better go before your cousin chases me down.”
“Hey...don’t say that, Usnavi he likes you…” Sonny was a terrible liar. Pete didn’t bother fight him, he kissed his boyfriend softly, then playfully flicked the hat off his head. “Bye.” “See ya, sunshine.”
Pete kept moving like a real life Aladdin. Sonny watched him disappear across the street and up another fire escape. He giggled to himself, slowly backing into the store door. “Sonny, you’re late.” Usnavi sounded like a broken record. “Pick up a broom and sweep up.”
“K’” Sonny shrugged off his jacket and in a moment he opened his hand the joint fell out of it. Usnavi’s keen eyes didn’t miss a thing that landed on his floor. He walked over and nearly shoved Sonny into the shelves. Slowly be picked up the blunt and could smell it, it was lit not too long ago. “Sonny what the fuck is this?” Usnavi held out the paper wrapped cannabis to his teenage cousin. “Sonny, what the FUCK IS THIS?” His voice got louder, angrier. Sonny slowly felt fear claw up his throat, nervous fear, he didn’t like being yelled at. No kid did, but Sonny especially. He struggled to find the words so Usnavi’s anger bulldozed him. “Sonny are you fucking nuts? Have you lost your fucking mind? Este maldito muchacho de diablo (This damn fucking kid). Where are you getting this from, hm?” Sonny froze. Usnavi took a moment for his anger to calm for a second. He had a moment of clarity. He knew Sonny. He knew the boy he helped raise and kept on raising. Sonny didn’t deal, Sonny didn’t buy. Sonny didn’t smoke. Sonny didn’t, who… “Fuckin’ Pete isn’t it? You’ve been messing around with that low life-” “Navi’!” “Thug ass kid, Sonny he’s a criminal! He tags public buildings and fucking does pot!” Sonny felt hot angry tears prick at the edges of his eyes, waves of emotion rolled over him but he stood his ground. The tsunami of emotions wouldn’t wash him away. “Pete is an artist! And Pot isn’t that bad…” “Have you been smoking too?” Usnavi charged, he tried to find signs of being high in Sonny. Red eyes, flushed face...but it was hard to tell. “Sonny, you’re going to school, you’re gonna get yourself fucked up out there. DO YOU KNOW WHAT COPS DO TO KIDS LIKE YOU?” He tossed the blunt in the trash and grabbed Sonny by the shoulders. Sonny met Usnavi’s glare, but there wasn’t anger anymore. It was pure, unnerving fear. “Do you know what happens to kids like you? One joint and cops are gonna pick you up, you’ve seen the news. Cops pick up kids like you and next thing you know you’re dead. You try to talk back, you’re dead. Do you understand that? Do you want to DIE on me Sonny?” Usnavi couldn’t, his heart couldn’t take another loss of the family. He couldn’t lose his Sonny. “You stay away from Pete. I swear...Sonny, he’s going to get you killed.” “Navi’...” Sonny sniffled, his face was hot, the tears rolling down felt like magma against his flushed skin. Of course he knew...and he knew better than to play around with Pete like that. Pete did some stuff but that didn’t define him. This hood didn’t define him! “I can’t…” Usnavi gave him a hard look, as if he was two seconds away from slapping Sonny. “What?” “I…” He licked his lips trying to find the right words. “You what? You think your lame ass friend is more important than your life?” “No.” He sobbed a bit. Why couldn’t he think straight? Why couldn’t Usnavi back up for a second and not yell. His brain ached and throbbed as he searched every lobe in his brain for an answer. “No what Sonny? No you think he’s more important, no he’s not a lame ass?” He hissed.
“No..just...no...he…” He hiccuped, his breathing was fast and irregular, his mind was melting he couldn’t find it. All he could say was no. No to all of it, no to this. He wanted to eject right out of his body right now and be somewhere else.
Usnavi pulled away from Sonny, finally giving him a moment of space. He took off his hand and roughly ran his hand through his hair. “...If I see him anywhere near I’m callin him in.” Usnavi wasn’t a snitch. He didn’t believe anyone in the hood was bad, but if some little punk was hell bent on bringing his cousin down...well blood was always thicker than water. He was going to keep Sonny safe even if it came at the expense of another youth.
The tear soaked tea felt a lump in his throat. He swallowed hard as the reality hit him. Pete wouldn’t stay away. He knew Pete enough, he knew Pete loved him as much as Sonny did him. So he could see it, Usnavi calling him in. Pete would be...No. The streets would be bare again. Brick canvases would never light up with the life Pete gave them. Empty spray cans wouldn’t dot the corners were Pete had been. Random masterpieces hidden in corners that no one would ever see them wouldn’t be little surprises to the lost passerby or the hiding alley way drunk. No more, ‘hey sunshines’. “Usnavi…”
“What.” He grumbled half ready to fight Sonny if he tried to test him now. “What is it?” “Pete...he...I…” He licked his lips a little, “I love him.”
