She’s the best and I love her.
If you don’t follow Angelique on instagram, I recommend doing so. She’s truly inspiring as a person but she’s also a lot of fun.

Is anyone aware there's an interview with Amaya's VA about the development of the character, how she got the role and all that? Because there is, here's a link if anyone wants to see it. Apparently when she started the role, Amaya was still a villain at the time.

Wish's Angelique Cabral Puts Modern Spin on Disney in Queen Amaya
An interview with Amaya's voice actress Angelique Cabral. I recommend reading it, especially those who are salty that they didn't get their "Disney villain couple".

🌟 Out of all the characters in Disney’s “Wish”, Queen Amaya is among my favorites, next to Star. About two weeks ago, me and a friend of my mom’s saw the new Disney movie on an early Thursday afternoon. It was during a day-off from work. On social media, I saw many, many mixed to negative reactions about “Wish”, but thought that maybe I ought to see it in the theater or when it’s available for streaming on Disney+. I really enjoyed Queen Amaya’s dynamic with Asha, the lead character. As well as her verse in the song “Knowing What We Know Now”. Anyway, me and my mom’s friend saw the movie and liked it.
Thinking of it now, I give the movie 7 out of 10 stars. My main criticisms are how too quirky Asha is, though she does follow in the footsteps of quirky female characters like Rapunzel, Anna, Moana, and Mirabel. King Magnifico is another weak villain , motivated by greed. Yet, I really enjoyed the visual and verbal Easter eggs and anecdotes throughout the movie to commemorate Disney’s 100th anniversary. 👑

I wasn’t interested in, and I hadn’t planned on seeing ‘Wish’; but I did, and it was surprisingly good! *POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD*
Ironically enough, the best parts of it were when it didn’t try that hard to be a Disney Princess/Tribute movie. I hardly liked the Easter Eggs in it (especially that creepy “Peter Pan” guy at the end, what the heck was that?) except for the book at the beginning and Asha’s Fairy Godmother outfit, which was really cute. Star was not as annoying as I had expected it to be, and neither were ‘The Teenagers’; on the contrary, it was nice to have a Disney Princess with a friend group for a change. Magnifico was definitely my favorite character, down to his descent into madness, even though I was sorta hoping for a redemption for him and a resolution of his relationship with Amaya; but Chris Pine has great charisma and really nailed the role; my praise goes to him for that.
The soundtrack was a BANGER. I thought ‘This is The Thanks I Get?’ was good, but ‘Knowing What I Know Now’ manages to be even better. The part where Queen Amaya steps in had me SCREAMING, and the whole choreography was brilliant. Ironically enough, ‘This Wish’ was the song I liked the less (after ‘Welcome To Rosas’), there was a Pop flavor to it that I found out of contest in a classic fairytale movie, but Ariana DeBose was overall amazing, and definitely a fantastic Asha. Also, curiously enough, I even liked ‘I’m A Star’, even though I usually don’t like the most childish numbers of Disney movies. A special mention goes to ‘At All Costs,’ my second favorite song after KWIKN.
Overall, I think this movie is very misleadingly marketed, and this is why many people feel like it has no identity of its own. Disney’s choice to focus on legacy has overshadowed the creativity behind it; still, this movie does deserve a chance - again, I say this as someone who didn’t even want to watch it.
I can’t think of anything else I want to say about this movie (maybe because it’s almost past midnight where I live) so I think I’ll save any further impression for another post. Meanwhile, tell me what you thought about Wish!

Wish (2023)
This is a Movie Health Community evaluation. It is intended to inform people of potential health hazards in movies and does not reflect the quality of the film itself. The information presented here has not been reviewed by any medical professionals.
Wish has scenes of a bright light whizzing around, similar to the effect of pointing a laser pointer and waving it around rapidly. Some magic effects may cause mild strobes.
There are some sweeping and spinning shots. A late scene takes place at extreme heights.
Flashing Lights: 4/10. Motion Sickness: 3/10.
TRIGGER WARNING: Early in the film, a passenger on a boat is visibly nauseous, and heaves, but nothing comes out.
