Theo had missed Hidden Falls. He’d traveled enough of the country to know that it would always be home. Whenever he was away, the thoughts of it were often romanticized and he’d thought he had missed everything about it, but he came to the realization that this was not true, when he ran into Nick Alexander.

He and Chris both had grilled Mia on her friendship with Nick the night before (neither of them were particularly fond of him or their relationship, however it had also been to gather any information on the Alexander family and their situation, in general, as they strongly suspected that his father, at least, was a vampire and could have been connected to the recent killings, if not directly involved). All he had discerned was that Nick’s mother had died (rather suddenly, it seemed -- something he meant to follow up on, later) and that Nick and Mia hadn’t been hanging out as much as they used to.

It was something Theo felt he should be happy about, but it came with some conflicting emotions since he could tell Mia was upset about it and he found that he was furious with Nick for both for hanging out with her too much and also from not hanging out with her now, at all. 

What an asshole.

His emotions became less muddled when he pulled up in front of the Wilson household the next afternoon, only to see Nick waiting in the shade on the front porch. There had been a point last night when he’d hoped Nick would do just that, but seeing him, now, made Theo realize that it was better for everyone if he’d just leave Mia alone, completely.

“She’s not here.”

Truth be told, Theo wasn’t sure if that was strictly true. Her car wasn’t in the drive, but Mia’s old car had the tendency to break down, leaving her to hitch a ride home. However, he wasn’t about to let Nick in to give either of them the chance to find out for sure.
