We love a thematic playlist!! so far all the songs mention places in New York City but idk if that was what you were going for? Also I am starving for more 1975 fiction and can’t wait for Mondayyyy. I swear I’ve read every chapter at least 3 times 😭
We LOVE a thematic playlist and anon, my my my... I think we already have a winner 👀👀👀
Who wants to guess what New York has got to do with anything?
(and you're too nice seriously, thank you so much for the love 🥲🥲🥲)

As protests start ramping up and violence escalates please remember:
DO NOT PUT MILK IN YOUR EYES FOR PEPPER SPRAY OR TEAR GAS.
It can and will cause infection due to bacteria. Flush with water, distilled if possible, and never EVER wear contact lenses to protests where there may be police retaliation.
Please reblog. It may save someone's sight.

Here is the goggle doc on what to do! Even if you don’t need to live in New York, you can message the tourism board.
Id: two photos with a yellow background of drawing of a man with baseball hat that says NY. He’s wearing a mask. Both images have the words action alert in white text on a black background. They also both have #nomaskbanny in the left corner of the image and covidadvocacyny.org in the left bottom corner. The first image says contact your ny state senator, then below the image of the man is more text. That says, and urge them to speak about mask bans and commit to not support mask band legislation. The second image on the right has contact GovernorHochul above the image of the man and bellow, and urge her not to mask with her phone number 518-747- 8390

“It’s so crazy JKR is misgendering a real cis WOMAN who was raised as a GIRL her whole LIFE what a dummy” is such a dogshit argument lol stop ceding ground to the idea that cis women have a more legitimate claim to womanhood because they were “born and raised” a woman and that’s why it makes this misgendering “more” ridiculous somehow. transphobes being constantly wrong about who is “actually transgender” is not their trans clocking radar ‘misfiring,’ they are proudly, openly, and successfully terrorising the public into accepting a very narrow & particular white suprematist notion of gendered divisions in society. JKR is not ‘mistaken’ she’s a fucking white supremacist who hangs out with other white supremacists & advances white supremacy through the language of transphobia. why is anyone still acting like she’s “making mistakes” where have you people been

September 2, 2024 - On the first day of fall classes the Alma Mater statue on the steps of the library at Columbia University was drenched in red paint, as protests continue against the school’s financial support for Israel and the repression of pro-Palestine voices while Israel's barbaric USA-supported genocide goes on unabated. Golf Courses ARE Being Converted
The Solarpunk "fantasy" that so many of us tout as a dream vision, converting golf courses into ecological wonderlands, is being implemented across the USA according to this NYT article!
The article covers courses in Michigan, Pennsylvania, California, Colorado, and New York that are being bought and turned into habitat and hiking trails.
Tumblr media
The article goes more into detail about how sand traps are being turned into sand boxes for kids, endangered local species are being planted, rocks for owl habitat are being installed, and that as these courses become wilder, they are creating more areas for biodiversity to thrive.
Most of the courses in transition are being bought by Local Land Trusts. Apparently the supply of golf courses in the USA is way over the demand, and many have been shut down since the early 2000s. While many are bought up and paved over, land Trusts have been able to buy several and turn them into what the communities want: public areas for people and wildlife. It does make a point to say that not every hold course location lends itself well to habitat for animals (but that doesn't mean it wouldn't make great housing!)
Tumblr media
So lets be excited by the fact that people we don't even know about are working on the solutions we love to see! Turning a private space that needs thousands of gallons of water and fertilizer into an ecologically oriented public space is the future I want to see! I can say when I used to work in water conservation, we were getting a lot of clients that were golf courses that were interested in cutting their resource input, and they ended up planting a lot of natives! So even the golf courses that still operate could be making an effort.
So what I'd encourage you to do is see if there's any land or community trusts in your area, and see if you can get involved! Maybe even look into how to start one in your community! Through land trusts it's not always golf course conversions, but community gardens, solar fields, disaster adaptation, or low cost housing! (Here's a link to the first locator I found, but that doesn't mean if something isn't on here it doesn't exist in your area, do some digging!)
