the most helpful thing i have ever seen from neurodivergent internet spaces is “THERE ARE OTHER TIMES OF DAY TO BRUSH YOUR TEETH”. this has genuinely saved me from executive dysfunction spirals so many times.

Alright everyone...hear us out...
A progress pride flag that explicitly includes disabled, altersex, a-spec, and ethically non-monogamous people.
Tumblr media
The altersex symbol and intersex symbol interlock, to showcase unity within the varsex community.
The a-spec compass and ethically non-monogamous heart are both within a single symbol, to showcase the unity of going against amatonormativity.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I was sad seeing the ‘inclusivity flag’ did not mention disabled people at all. Disabled people are often left out of pride events due to a lack of accessibility, being thought of as being unable to communicate their queerness and infantalisation of disabled people.
I propose this flag which includes zigzag stripes and more muted colours as a reference to the disability flag. Because queer, disabled people are so often left out from pride events it is important we be remembered.
[Alt text two versions of the inclusivity flag - one of which includes the intersex flag.
Both of these inclusivity flags have been made to have more muted colours and the rainbows zig-zagging down the flag, akin to that of a disability flag.
There is a dark grey background in the gaps at the top and bottom of the flag.]

I feel like there are a lot of people out there who needs to hear this:
If you dropped out of school because of diagnosed (or undiagnosed) ADHD, Autism, ADD, OCD, Dyslexia, Anxiety, Depression, Bipolar disorder, psychotic disorders, schizophrenia etc… You did not fail. The education system failed you.

"adhd isn't a disability"
breaks down over trying to start tasks until he deadline is stupidly close
unable to do basic chores unless it's like 4am and then the whole damn house gets cleaned
speaks too fast
tangent and tangent and tangent. makes social situations hard
literally unable to stop themselves from interrupting people mid sentence (and the constant "*interrupts*- sorry, please continue")
knows what they want to say, cannot find the words, even if it's something basic
auditory processing disorder (pretty common with adhd), like how do you explain that you can hear but your brain has minecraft server lag and the chat will appear soon
hyperfixations, and people thinking they are special interests when they are not (they are short term, literally stops you from basic care like eating and drinking when in) edit: it was brought to my attention this comes across like special interests are easier to live with which is not the case, please do not take that away from this post!!!
impulse purchases making bank accounts cry
all or nothing. not hungry to pain. don't need to pee until pain. you get the picture
cannot sit still, like actually can't, constant moving and shuffling which people think would be cute but actually just pisses people off
doesn't have a fidget toy, not bc they are popular but bc they would have to put it away bc dylan over there got a fidget spinner and has been loudly playing with it (dylan is neurotypical)
cannot do anything if there is something else to do that day, must wait
just stfu it is a disability

A little reminder that the "scary" neurodivergents belong in the community too. The ones with intrusive thoughts. The ones who seem self-centered.
The people with ocd, bpd, npd. Stuff like that. They belong here too.

I always get nervous when opening gifts, especially since everyone will be watching (unless someone else is opening at the same time, but I also prefer gifts to be opened one at a time and stuff), so I try to come up with enough happiness upon my face - my face doesn't look nor emote like my actual self, which makes this extra hard, and doesn't always align with my feelings, nor attempts to control - my squish is one of the things that can make me excessively smile and emote though, which is funny, because their face is deadpan/a mix of emotions, when staring at me though, which makes even a short glance, feel confrontational - they CAN otherwise emote, their body and face just seems to act the same way around me as when they're alone (or at least when not actively looking at me), though actually, even less expressive then - they can be expressive during a phone call, even, but again, besides the body, will deadpan as soon as their eyes are on ME - I can sometimes see them think, or have a vibe of what their emotions might be, etc, but no message will get across. I still know they like me though, and a very long time ago in our friendship, they used to smile at me almost every time, but they stopped, and no matter what emotion they have, their face will still seem to me like a serious "😐". I still know they like me though. Also, they're 30 (based on appearance), so no, weird facial stuff doesn't always stop when you get older.

Happy Holidays everyone!
Please remember that we autistics might not react the same way you would when opening our presents. We may act underwhelmed or bored while opening our presents. This is not an indicator of how happy we are. Don't get upset just because we didn't act the way you wanted us to. Don't take it personally.
Enjoy your holidays!

Ah yes, the autistic experience of being more mature than your peers as a child/teen, and then less mature as an adult. The window of opportunity to relate is... not there
