i always get a little sad when people tell me they like scollace from just my fan art and haven't checked out any of the source material because like nothing i make is going to ever fully represent their dynamic and the joy of shipping to me is really engaging with the canon material and going crazy over breaking down the crumbs of content. and it's a nice comic series! even just watching the anime you're missing out on a lot without context from the comics.

so i guess for the record for anyone who's interested but don't know where to start, /especially/ if you're just here for roommate yaoi. start with the comics. it's the most "scollace-heavy" and it's only 6 books. starting with the anime would probably leave you really confused on why anyone ships them (or what's going on if this is your first exposure to scott pilgrim media) the movie is a fine entrance piece also, imho. like it lets you in on the dynamics between each character and the general plot (even though the characterization is pretty boiled down, but hey a lot of shots are 1:1 to the comics so that's fun.) but yeah. don't let my silly gay drawings dictate your shipping takes. read the books yourself! they're fun and if you're a fresh adult that still feels perma-14 you'll probably find it fun too.

The Tametebako or Colloquially "Fuchi's Last Stand" was a no holds bar, money is no object vanity project by an unsupervised faction of Fuchi Asia. The stated goal was to make a completely unmatched bleeding edge piece of tech that could compete with the best static units while being a portable terminal replacement. Aimed at the Newly minted UltraLux CEO Segment, The Tametebako was made from rare and hard to get materials to sell it's exclusive nature; bundled with its innovative hardware and extremely powerful Otohime Assistant Software (Which Fuchi spend 10 years developing). Consequently, The Tametebako Commlink retailed at 50 000 nuyen which many consumers balked at for what was essentially an overpowered phone with an extremely intelligent chatbot. Many reviewers sledged the device for it's inability to install new applications if they weren't from approved sources. These Commlinks are now seeing second life in the collectors and hackers markets with finding the styling and theming of the phone to be charmingly retro and powerful enough to keep up with modern hardware with some QoL mods. Diehard fans report the Otohime software taking on a life of it's own after modding the hardware; her usual calm and dignified demeanor shifts around and changes during the jailbreaking process due to the random voltage pulse needed to defeat the modification lockout chip. honestly i feel like i absolutely should not be forced to download third party apps if i think my phone or computer screen is too bright. there shouldn't be a limit as to how low i can turn my brightness, and i shouldn't have to rely on multiple apps that i can't guarantee the file safety of just so my eyes don't fucking hurt

Falx is a legionnaire- what kind of shenanigans does he get his warband in to? Whats the most disastrous mission he's ever lead? Whats the most successful one?

Falx is a legionnaire- what kind of shenanigans does he get his warband in to? There's the usual legion mandated missions, which for Falx's warband usually means going out and killing something. Beyond that, Falx's rather notoriously poor behaviour tends to get him in a lot of fights, and when he attracts the ire of an entire warband it's up to the rest of his 'band to back him up. Sometimes that also means sharing in punishment duty if Falx goes too far, there's been more than one occasion where he's gotten them ordered to haul scrap in the junkyard. Furthermore Falx's high estimation of his own skills means he tends to volunteer the warband to go on especially dangerous missions which, while it hasn't come back to bite him yet, it probably will soon.

Whats the most disastrous mission he's ever lead? The most disastrous mission he's ever lead so far was one of the ones he volunteered for. It was supposed to be simple, track down some separatists that had been harrassing supply shipments near the Irondock Shipyard and kill them. However Falx's mediocre tracking ability got the entire warband hopelessly lost in the swamps of the Lamia Mire for over a week. They'd just about run out of rations before Falx gave up any pretense of being good at navigation and haranged some directions out of the local dead. They finally trudged out of the swamp ready to begin their search anew, this time NOT listening to Falx's directions, only to discover another warband had already gotten to the separatists while they were wading in circles through the muck. So all their struggles had been for nothing and they didn't even get some combat out of it.

Whats the most successful one? The most successful mission on the other hand was a much simpler one: Guard a farmstead from a splinter group of Flame holdouts. Falx, as per usual, decided waiting around for an attack was for pansies and 'took the initiative', ordering his warband to attack the flame camp. However, on this occasion it turned out well. the 'band decided on a night time ambush, Falx would draw their attention and the rest of the warband would pick the flames off. And boy did he cause a distraction, showing off his full necromantic prowess. The flame charr were engaged in worship of their eternal fire under the direction of the shaman when the ambush happened. Falx used his shadow magic to snuff out every fire in the flame camp, quite concerning already but it was his follow-up of making the shaman drop dead that really spooked them. When Falx strolled into the camp, reaper shroud active, a void of darkness only visible from the movement of his scythe and the glow of his eyes piercing the darkness, the flame charr's morale broke and they ran for it. Whereapon they were slaughtered by the rest of the warband waiting in the shadows. While his superiors weren't happy that he broke protocol to launch an unauthorized assault, they couldn't argue that he'd gotten results, this time.

Ran into a post elsewhere where someone was confusedly complaining about being called ableist for disliking Yoshiko's "Yohane" bit. The argument they'd gotten was that Yoshiko is autistic, and (somehow) Yohane is the embodiment of her autism, and that therefore you can't dislike her. Or something.

Now, in that discussion they were being reassured that neither that interpretation of the great fallen angel Yoshiko's alternate persona nor the interpretation of Yoshiko as neurodivergent were canon — but were also cautioned that probably their interlocutors were recognizing aspects of Yoshiko/Yohane in their own experience of neurodivergence and taking such rejection personally. It's all a bit odd, but I suppose fandom will fandom.

But I tell ya, it took great effort for me not to insert myself into the conversation and insist that on the other hand, putting down the Rina-chan Board is being ableist.
