Been thinking a lot as of late about the fandom take that Hiccup actually should hold a grudge against his village for the way he was treated. This is the "hold a grudge" website, so I'm not surprised and neither is this post about telling you that you're wrong to feel this way. If I was raised the way Hiccup was, outcasted to the point that I start to make friends with the enemy, I would be angry, too!

But holding a grudge just isn't in Hiccup's nature. And I think there is no bigger proof than his incredibly deep bond with Toothless.

Because even ignoring Httyd 2 for a moment, the first movie also hints at Valka dying to dragons.

The dragon raids are the only mentioned outside threat before they learn about the Red Death. And with Stoick gifting Hiccup a helmet made of his mother's breast plate (which are not supposed to be boob-shaped, believe it or not) when he thinks his son does surprisingly well in dragon training, that could be another one of those hints.

Hiccup will be facing dragons after training instead of being hidden in the forge for his own safety (while helping to contribute like the other teens) so it makes sense to me that Valka's death was always meant to be at the claws of dragons and Stoick is trying to prevent that now that it's become a reality that Hiccup might actually face dragons in the very near future.

There is no other threat spoken about in the first movie. Hiccup's mother was always killed by dragons. She's missing from his life because Toothless' kind took him away from her. If Hiccup were to be angry at his village for the way he was treated, he should also be angry at dragons for taking away the one person who could've been unconditionally on his side. Like mothers are supposed to be.

But Hiccup isn't angry at dragons. As a matter of fact, when he gets up close to one, has one completely at his mercy, he doesn't hate Toothless. And this is before he even realizes that there's more to them than fire breathing, home-destroying, food-stealing, man-eating creatures from Hell.

Instead of being angry, he sees Toothless for who he is. A living being just as complex as he is. Capable of fear, of curiosity, of forgiveness, of remorse, of love. And Hiccup wasn't kept from seeing this because anger for having his mother taken from him didn't blind him.

The same can be said about Mildew, who gets the dragons in trouble again and again. But at the end of RoB, Hiccup still decides to put his trust in him to get them both (and Toothless) home.

And Dagur, who started a whole war over being betrayed by Hiccup, which gives him a grudge for three whole years that leaves him filled with revenge until Viggo gives him a sudden change of perspective that leads to months of introspection. It takes a little while, but Hiccup doesn't just accept him as a friend, but accepts Dagur's offer to be found brothers.

He should hold a grudge against Heather. Who played on his kindness to get Alvin the Book of Dragons and then seemingly played him again in RttE, when he lets her stay on Dragon's Edge and the very next time they see her, she's working for the Hunters. Who come into their lives by leaving Astrid to die stranded in the middle of the ocean and abducting Stormfly. With only Astrid learning that Heather is actually spying on them with Hiccup not learning about this fact until much later. (Something very clearly hurts him, but even being left out of the loop he forgives Astrid and Heather for.)

Alvin canonically held Hiccup and Toothless captive for days, barely giving Toothless any food or water. Hiccup literally states that in the first episode of DoB.

And while they don't show it in the show itself, in the very first episode afterwards, Hiccup is trying to prepare his 14 and 15 year old friends for interrogation. Clearly something in that two-parter spooked him enough to do something as drastic as this.

But at the end of DoB, Hiccup still chooses trust Alvin to help rescue Stoick and get Outcast Island back from Dagur. An alliance was forged. One strong enough that when Stoick gets gravely injured in RttE, Alvin can be trusted to come in and help out around Berk.

The closest Hiccup comes to holding a grudge is with Viggo. The first person to ever make Hiccup feel like an idiot, make him feel frustrated that he can't get immediately out on top like he did with all his previous villains. He spends literal months trying to find Viggo just to get back at him, dragging all his friends and his dragons down with him. But even that doesn't last.

Not with both Dagur as well as Stoick advising him against harboring feelings of vengeance. Dagur warns Hiccup against how the need for vengeance can change a person. Stoick warns Hiccup that revenge can lead to an endless cycle of violence, explicitly telling his son that he's telling him this out of experience. They don't want Hiccup to be lead astray and hurt by holding and acting on grudges.

There is the potential for Drago, which the comics did try to get into until a certain comic got cancelled and left us with that story unresolved. For newer fans who don't yet know this; Hiccup was actually meant to experience a downward spiral in the comics that take place after Httyd 2. Except the comic that would've concluded this storyline got canceled around the time of THW's release. Probably because THW confirms that Drago is dead while the canceled comic actually had Hiccup face Drago again, the man in hiding after his defeat. Release The Fire Tides!

This entire post just to say... A grudge would've been justified, but Hiccup just doesn't have it in him to hold onto one. Certainly not forever.

Hooligan Calendar

As well as a map I’ve also put together a calendar for the people of Berk, complete with their unique holidays and the birthdays of various characters. I based the weather on Iceland’s, since Berk is around the same latitude. The farming tasks come from a medieval farming calendar, with adjustments made where necessary.

Obviously most of the chores would be ongoing tasks (especially the ones involving growing or preparing food) and wouldn’t just be done in one month, but I didn’t want to repeat myself too much. I’m also not saying this is accurate to real life or to the Norse. So…

Spring 

(1) Einmánu��ur (31 days, equivalent of March) 

Festivals: The 20th day is spring equinox, celebrated by Iðunnsblót, a feast day in honour of Iðunn, goddess of spring. Her husband Bragi, god of poetry, is also honoured. They hang flower wreaths on apple trees as offerings for the goddess, pray for a healthy and fruitful year ahead, toast with and drink cider and mead whilst the skalds sing poems about Iðunn and Bragi. 

Farming: They sow beetroot, broad beans, cabbage, carrots, leeks, onions, parsnips and spinach. And of course, the spring grains will be sown - wheat and barley, most likely. At this point they’re still eating preserved foods from the winter - pickled/brined/smoked meat, fish and vegetables, dried or boiled fruits; as well as fresh eggs from chickens and even seaweed (yummy?) 

The farmers plough and harrow the fields for planting after the frosts. It is also calving season. Children and teens help with weeding and sowing. There are cows to milk, chickens to tend to, various herbs and spices to plant/harvest. 

Weather: cold (0-4 C), wet and windy; but the days are getting longer.

(2) Harpa (30 days, equivalent of April) 

5th Harpa - Astrids’ birthday 

Festival: This month begins with Sigrblót, a celebration of spring/summers’ victory over winter. For the Berkians it was probably a time to celebrate surviving the dragon raids for another year. Boars are sacrificed to Odin, prayers of victory in battle and good fortune in the year ahead are made, and everyone sings and dances around a big bonfire whilst the meat roasts. 

This is also when Thawfest is held: a contest of strength, prowess, skill and determination, held to celebrate the frosts thawing out and to honour Tyr and Thor. Children and adults compete in different levels at different contests. 

Farming: As well as the same crops from last month, they’ll plant radishes and turnips. The legumes are planted in fallow fields to enrich the soil. The spring shearing is done; the wool needs to be cleaned, combed and spun into yarn. The first barley crop of the year is sown during the latter part of the month.  

There is butter to churn and skyr, a kind of soft, runny cheese, to make. The butter would be made from cream and the skyr from the skimmed milk. All of their cheeses will be soft, high fat cheeses made from curds (more the consistency of mozzarella), rather than the hard, matured cheeses we have. 

Calves are weaned this time of year, and of course the livestock (cows, sheep and chickens) still need tending to. They’re probably grazed on common land. 

Weather: slightly less cold (3 - 6.8 C), still windy, rain and even snowstorms.

(3) Skerpla (30 days, equivalent of May) 

1st Skerpla - Valka’s birthday 

4th Skerpla - Gobber’s birthday 

27th Skerpla - Heather’s birthday 

Farming: The barley continues to be sown. Moss and mould needs scraping off the shingles. It’s lambing season, and the livestock is marked and sent out to pasture. Bees are captured for hives to make honey for mead. All the usual chores need to continue - milking cows, making cheeses and butters, hunting small game, weeding/pruning crops, mending and washing clothes etc. 

Towards the end of the month is trading season, when merchants from the mainland come to the archipelago to hawk their wares. Berk trades wool, lumber and dragon products (once their hides, now their shed scales, quills etc) for furs, ‘exotic’ foods such as dried fruits (apricots and prunes), spices and linens. Basically anything they can’t grow or make themselves. 

Weather: grows warmer over the month (2 - 11 C), less to no snow.

Summer 

(4) Sólmánuður (30 days, equivalent of June) 

8th Solmanuður - Fishlegs’ birthday 

Festivals: the 21st day is the summer solstice, with a celebration to honour Freyr, Baldur and other gods or goddesses of fertility and beauty. 

Farming: beets, carrots and radishes can be harvested. Hay needs to be gathered whilst dry to save for feeding livestock in the winter.

Weather: warm by Berk standards (10 C), still a bit rainy, midnight sun begins.

(5) Heyannir (33 days, equivalent of July) 

Farming: beets, cabbage, carrots, onions, radishes can all be harvested. The vegetables are pickled or dried to preserve them. Hay still needs to be made. Apples start to ripen. The wheat grains are sown around this time of year. 

Weather: warm and mild (10-15 C), mostly dry with risk of unpredictable rain.

(6) Tvimánuður (31 days, equivalent of August) 

8th Tvimanuður - Ruff & Tuffs’ birthday 

Festivals: In the second to last week of Tvimánuður, the Berkians celebrate Bork Week. This festival honours the man who wrote the Book of Dragons, saving the knowledge of how to fight dragons for future generations. It’s not known how they celebrate it, but presumably a lot of alcohol is involved. 

Ironically, between late Heyannir and early Tvimanuður is the time of the dragons mating season. However, they don’t mate every single year. 

Farming: beets, broad beans, cabbage, carrots, leeks, onions, parsnips, peas, radishes, spinach and turnips can all start to be harvested. Apples are ripening and it’s berry picking season - bilberries, crow berries, wild strawberries, rowan berries, and so on. Mushrooms can also be harvested, but carefully - they don’t want to collect poisonous ones, so children are closely supervised. 

Weather: still warm (10 - 20 C), windy, occasional showers but mostly dry.

Autumn 

(7) Haustmánuður (29 days, equivalent of September) 

Festivals - the 18th day of the month is a new holiday in the Hooligan Calendar: Dragon Day! This is, of course, the anniversary of when Hiccup and Toothless defeated the Red Death. Usually the honoured pair are nowhere to be found, because they take the opportunity to escape the attention and fly off on their own! The 22nd day is the autumn equinox, with a celebration to honour Sif, goddess of harvests, and Skadi, goddess of the hunters. 

Farming: vegetables continue to be harvested and preserved, the late berries continue to be picked, and apples are now ripe enough to pick. The cows are being bred. Early last month and this month is when the barley/wheat is harvested. The grains need to be winnowed and milled into flour for bread, or malted for use in ale/beer. Some seeds are kept aside to be sown for next year. 

Weather: getting cooler (8.5 to 11 C), midnight sun is over, nights get longer.

(8) Gormánuður (31 days, equivalent of October) 

31st Gormanuður - Stoick’s birthday 

Festivals: the 18th day of the month is Dreadfall, a time to honour their ancestors. A large bonfire is built, poems are sung; iron nails are hammered above/around doorways to ward off malevolent spirits, children wear disguises so they won’t be snatched away, and candles are lit inside carved turnips. 

Farming: the last of the grain is harvested and the next crop of barley is sown. Other vegetables, nuts and berries continue to be harvested and preserved. The lambs are slaughtered (sorry lambs) and the sheep are sheared/bred. (During the days of the Dragon War, how many animals were slaughtered depended on how many sheep or cows the dragons had stolen. Lambs and calves would be left alive to replace the older livestock if necessary.) 

Weather: cold (5.4 C), unpredictably rain, high winds and hail.

(9) Ýlir (30 days, equivalent of November) 

Farming: the next crop of broad beans is sown, in fallow fields for over winter. Firewood is chopped and stored. Crops and catches are being salted, dried, smoked, pickled, brined, baked and boiled to preserve them. The last of the sheep are sheared and the wool is washed, combed and spun into yarn. 

Weather: very cold (1 - 8 C), longer nights, more rain, sleet and hail abound.

Winter 

(10) Mörsugur (30 days, equivalent of December) 

7th Mörsugur - Snotlouts’ birthday 

18th Mörsugur - Erets’ birthday 

Festivals: the 20th - 26th of the month is Yule, honouring Odin; or as the Hooligans call it for some unknown reason, Snoggletog. They make sacrifices to the king of the gods, build and light a big bonfire, exchange gifts, put up evergreen wreaths, sing poems and, of course, get very, very drunk. 

Farming: the fields need to be fertilised with manure (be it sheep, cow or dragon dung XD). The sheep and cows are brought into the stables. 

Weather: freezing cold (-1 - 4 C), hail and snow, high winds, very short days.

(11) Þorri (30 days, equivalent of January) 

Festivals: the first of the month is Þorrablot: a day to honour fathers, husbands and the god Thor. Unlike the other festivals, this is celebrated between families in the home. An offering is made to Thor and small gifts are given to the men of the household by their wives and/or children. 

Farming: fields and ditches are cleared, and manure is spread on the fields to fertilise them. The clods of dirt are broken up. The early lambs are being born. 

Weather: still freezing (-1 C), lots of rain, sleet, hail and snow, still long nights.

(12) Góa (30 days, equivalent of February) 

18 Góa - Hiccup’s birthday 

21 Góa - Dagur’s birthday 

Festivals: the month starts with Goublót, a day to honour mothers, wives and the goddess Frigga. Like þorrablót, it takes place in the home. Offerings are made to the goddess of marriage and motherhood, and gifts are given to the women of the household by their husbands and/or children. 

Farming: fruit trees and hedgerows are pruned, and damage from over winter starts to get mended. More manure continues to be added to the fields. 

Weather: not quite as freezing (1 C), and windy with lots of snow and rain.

Light Furies and Night Furies are close enough relatives that they will gather in small Prides when they feel threatened or their is not enough territory. Surprisingly Stormcutters can often be seen in these 'Prides' as they are gentle giants, and fiercly defensive.

Grimmel is actively hunting down Night Furies, so they stay hidden, not joining any nests and continuing on the move.

Chief Hiccup and Astrid had three children together, before disappearing on a rescue mission with the other Dragon Riders.

Hakkon, Frigga, and Skathi Haddock were then raised by Valka, Stoick and Gobber. (Stoick having survived Toothless' plasma blast by sheer luck but lost all feeling and motion in his left arm.)

Calumn, Dagur and Mala's son was raised by Mala with the help of the Beserkers and the Defenders of the Wing.

Asgeir and Sindri, Snotlouts son and daughter respectively, were raised seperately. Sindri was raised by her mother, Mindin with the Wingmaidens while Asgeir was raised by his grandfather, Spitelout.

Bragi, Fishlegs and Heathers son, was raised by Mala as well, having been taken in when she realized that Stoick and Valka were raising the three Haddock children.

Alva and Anja, identical twin daughters of Ruffnut, were raised by their father, Eret Eretson on Berk.

Bard, Tuffnuts son was raised by his Uncle, since his mother was unknown.

Summary: Set in a Modern AU, Sci-fi AU. Mind Full AU. With Mala still incapacitated after the attack, Throk has been pushed into her position and he made a decision that Astrid doesn't agree with. Still in the hospital, she pushes herself to try and make it right.

“Astrid, please, be careful!” Heather pleads with her girlfriend to mind herself.

She had the talons of a Nadder impale her when she tried to sneak a baby Nadder out of Valka’s warehouse the day she disappeared. One on her right side, two on her left. She needed surgery in order to live, there was damage done to organs and she’s lucky she didn’t lose any. When Minden brought her to the hospital, she was almost septic. The last thing Astrid should be doing is pushing herself.

“I am careful!” She argues, fighting the pain as she lowers her legs off the side of the bed. Heather stands on the opposite end and watches in worry, her love’s face contorts and she represses her whines and whimpers. She’s in terrible pain despite her last dose of painkillers.

“Astrid, please!” Heather runs to the other side. A good decision on her end, Astrid cries out and her legs give out beneath her. Heather catches her and they both fall to the ground. Clinging onto her like her life depends on it, Astrid tries not to make a sound, though tears do still slip free.

Heather holds her closed, pulling her shirt up to watch one side grow red. She tore some of her stitches with her stunt. She reaches for the button to call for help.

“Astrid, why would you be so reckless? You almost died, it’s barely been a week!” Her voice shakes as she pleads for an explanation. There are tears in her eyes.

“They’re not going to get him. You heard Throk, right? I gave them the location of Valka’s Sanctuary and they’re not going to save him,” Astrid sobs.

After her life was saved, she found herself back amongst friends, back with Heather, and Stoick had apparently been informed of her disappearance. She was so sure that it was time to get Hiccup back, she knew exactly where to look and Minden could back her up, knowing she could never go back. But no, Throk decided against saving Hiccup.

Heather doesn’t know what to say. She could tell her what Throk told them as Mala’s second-in-command. That they need to be prepared, Valka is dangerous. That Astrid needs to heal and Mala is still adjusting to her wheelchair as the attack on her life caused damage to her spine, which left her legs severely weakened. Dagur has been surprisingly helpful in that regard, pushing her onwards towards recovery. Not to mention the investigation into the Defenders of the Wing after the attack and Astrid’s disappearance. Unfortunately, with all of this going on, Hiccup is very, very low on their list of priorities.

“She’s going to hurt him,” Astrid sobs. “I know she is, we have to get him back!”

“Shh,” Heather wraps her arms around her girlfriend and holds her tight to her chest even as blood soaks through her own clothes. “Valka would never risk him, he’s too useful to her.”

They are cruel words, admitting that a mother wouldn’t hurt her own son simply because he’s of some kind of use, but Astrid needs to hear them. Hiccup isn’t in any more danger than he already was before and Valka wouldn’t want to lose the ease that he continues to give her. So long as he does what she wants, he’ll be safe.

Astrid doesn’t believe her. Hiccup is in the enemy’s base surrounded by people who didn’t care enough about him to worry for his life, health or personhood to at least question what Valka was doing to her own son and then he risked everything to save her life after they got him so far as to take someone’s life for her.

Something is about to happen, she fears for a countdown she has no proof of and these injuries are stopping her from saving him like he saved her.

Stoick went. Throk told him his son could wait and so he went and he has no idea what he’s walking into. If he meets the same Hiccup she did when three of Stormfly’s claws impaled her almost all the way through, he will get hurt. He might get killed, Valka will only be getting rid of a loose end, he won’t be valuable like Astrid potentially was. And Hiccup, he will not survive losing his father.

Again, Astrid tries to get up, feeling lightheaded from the blood loss just as a nurse comes in to see what’s wrong. All she does, is rip one more stitch.

The Wings of War Chapter 7: Caught by Surprise

Summary: After a difficult morning, Astrid receives some disconcerting news.

Astrid and Zephyr sat on opposite sides of the table, sharing a quiet breakfast of bread, pine needle tea, and yak cheese. Zephyr ate much slower at breakfast than she did at lunch and dinner—the times of the day when she ravenously wolfed food down. At this hour , she was still sluggishly rubbing sleep from her eyes. Apparently, Astrid noted, the girl was only eager to wake early if it meant sneaking out to do something reckless. Meanwhile, Astrid ate quickly, eager to get the day’s work started and finished.

The rest of the Haddock family was elsewhere. Hiccup was still in his study, likely working some more on the Chronicle under the guise of preparing paperwork for the day’s meetings. He wasn’t nearly as convincing as he thought he was—especially since Astrid had already organized said paperwork herself—but she saw no harm in him having some moments to write so long as they got their long list of tasks finished by evening. She just hoped he actually ate the breakfast he’d brought into his study with him.

Nuffink was up in the kids’ bedroom, plucking away at his lyre, occasionally pausing to yelp or complain about Sunset getting too close or touching something she shouldn’t have . Wherever Valka was, Astrid couldn’t be certain. Hiccup’s mother was an early riser and tended to leave for the wilderness o n Cloudjumper before any other Haddock had opened their eyes.

The dining room felt eerily lonely after the closeness of the dinner they’d hosted for Heather’s family. Astrid wished wistfully that she could have more time to spend with her lover before the ceremonies began, but for now, the flight they’d had with Zephyr would have to do. Astrid had marvelled at the ease with which Heather had spoken with Zephyr. Despite her adamant desire to not have children of her own and her prickly, almost unknowable nature when she herself was a teenager, Heather had a way with young people. Astrid remembered with admiration how Heather made Rainier’s face brighten at dinner, and with an equal dose of shameful envy, she took a back seat to Heather and Zephyr’s lively conversation as they flew around Berk. Zephyr was s o polite and sweet when she spoke to “ Auntie Heather”. Astrid couldn’t bring herself to accuse her daughter of being intentionally mercurial to spite her—but then that meant it must be Astrid’s fault, mustn’t it?

It’s me , she thought bitterly, she only has a problem with me. And she supposed she should have felt relief, because perhaps that meant there was hope for Zephyr, and if the real issue was with their relationship, then Astrid had more power in changing things. But rather than relief, she only felt frustration—because though she knew she must be doing something wrong, she couldn’t for the life of her figure out what it was.

Introduction for my EPIC HTTYD AU

Much like with Berk in the first movie, dragons do attack Ithaca and steal livestock, as I wanted the first “arc” to almost parallel the first How To Train Your Dragon movie in a way, this including Telemachus training a Night Fury. However, rather than shooting one down and damaging its tail fin, he finds one that had been shot down in an attack by someone else, with scars from dragons and humans alike, however no damaged tail fin, yet half-blinded from a fight with a monstrous nightmare, and with slightly torn wings, albeit retaining its ability to fly, albeit temporarily unable to without severe discomfort due to a sprained wing, and also not yet having its secondary spines/flaps. Telemachus, despite knowing of the danger of dragons, and especially that of Night Furies, decided to free it, and much in parallel to the first movie, wound up pinned and being roared at. Unlike with Toothless, Telemachus’ Night Fury is more aggressive and easily irritated, being even less trusting of humans. However, after a process of feeding and respecting its personal space, the night fury gradually came to trust Telemachus more and became more accustomed to his presence. Soon before his wing fully healed, the Night Fury officially bonded with Telemachus in that iconic touching of the nose, and Telemachus had his first flight without a saddle. Of course, with it being Ithaca-centric and meant to parallel HTTYD 1, I took a creative liberty to create a….. platonic Astrid-esque figure named Aspasia (from my research, commonly used name in Ancient Greece, including being the name of the wife of Pericles of Athens). However, I took a different direction and decided to have them both have secret dragons, with Aspasia having a Razorwhip (Female, name TBD, thinking of Silverslice but any recommendations would be gladly appreciated) , and having raised an orphaned death song (leaning towards Perish and Anacruza with names, although ideas would be appreciated). Aspasia has almost a mixture of Valka’s personality and Heather’s, being someone who does research on dragons and things pertaining to them, willing to test her own theories, and willing to fight if it is deemed necessary. This is merely an introductory to the world outside of my side note alongside introducing an important fanmade character and three important dragon characters, alongside detailing how Telemachus came to train a dragon, more stuff on the world and detailings of Aspasia’s training of dragons and how she came across them will be detailed in a later post.

Telemachus’ Night Fury does not have a name decided and I am welcoming submissions for the name idea of him, alongside the other two dragons, whether through DMs, asks and ideas, or the comments of this post.

HYPER LIGHT DRIFTER AU SALES PITCH

aka alka and i played hld for over 6 hours and i got them attached to it by making it into a hijack au in between dying in stupid ways

okay hld character assignments or "trust me bro" the post

jack: the drifter. it's all there. came from the north looking for the immortal cell to cure himself, hiccup finds and saves him in front of the library. his hub is a little tooth fairy

hiccup: the guardian, IT'S ALL THERE x2 guardian of the town aka berk, became a drifter looking for the cell after the death of his parents from (sorry stoick and valka it's backstory). his hub is a small toothless robot he's very attached to

man in the moon: the jackal, chooses worthy people to become drifters and find the immortal cell to destroy it and pitch, restoring his powers and stopping the corruption

pitch: judgement, a scientist from a previous age infected by the immortal cell and now locked in a war with the man in the moon for control of the cell's wellspring/power to destroy the world as he spreads corruption through the world and disease to drifters

astrid: the weapons master, she's got her dojo and trains people 💪 she's right next door to hiccup and always down for a spar

tooth: dash master, next door to astrid, they hang out at each other's places when tooth sword trains and astrid tries to get better at dashing with the best teacher around

heather: alt drifter/altie, sees jack in passing but hangs out at astrid's dojo and stays with hiccup when she's around

sandy: the librarian, a long gone drifter who compiled information into monoliths

north: the minotaur, runs the arena and had the same vision of the cell from man in the moon, but his drifter days are over and he now supports jack and hiccup

ruff and tuff: merchants in town, saved by hiccup from their shenanigans more than once

bunny: the techie, peddler of bombs and grenades. reluctant to sell them to jack

fishlegs: the traveler in south, investigating the old tech in the desert

snotlout: the bandit, except less of a dick and more of a nuisance who's still very good at upgrading guns

AND HLD SPOILERS UNDER THE CUT if anyone actually cares about that here. au story summary essentially

WARNING FOR MAJOR CHARACTER DEATH because this is major character death the game sorry there's no escaping that

jack comes down from the north looking for the immortal cell + cure for pitch/judgement disease, rescued by hiccup outside of the library after category 5 judgement disease moment. hiccup takes him back to town And Then They Were Roommates™️ so basically this all aligns with canon

they're both looking for the same thing because hiccup also had the immortal cell vision and has pitch/judgement disease, they decide to team up for the search. hiccup maps out the modules, they explore together, jack dashes to stupid places and gets stuck and alka laughs at me etc etc

AND THEN SOUTH

hiccup goes on ahead to map, jack doesn't join or even know he's gone, he's in town spending as much time as he can with the people there he's grown attached to, but he also knows they're both getting sicker and with no places left to go they're nearing the end of the line

he goes to the south to look for hiccup and finds him with a pile of slain enemies and a mortal wound, but even without that hiccup has been getting worse with each zone

hiccup tells jack about losing his parents and striking out on his own after the man in the moon gave him a vision, and in one final goodbye and hope to keep a memory, jack takes his cloak and toothless when hiccup dies. he goes through south on his own but it's not the same without hiccup there to snark with, be his partner, his GUARDIAN!!! and he drags himself through each battle

he finally heads to the abyss for one last stand off with pitch/judgement to destroy the cell, finally faces his demons and destroys it, freeing the man in the moon. the cell was never a cure though, and he's too far gone and finally accepts it. makes his way through the abyss with a fatal wound and baby tooth and toothless hubs by his side, and sees one last gifted vision of peace from the man in the moon before he leaves the world, and jack goes too to meet hiccup in the afterlife

Chapter 8/ The Steel Island (Wild Skies AU)

  So, things weren't going well.

 The south was officially at war with Berk. The north was also trying to get a piece of that viking action, claiming there were "precious metals" in the arquipelago. Razorwhips were disappearing sporadically, and the Wing Maidens were blaming it on Berk. Heather had finally gotten fed up with Hiccup and allied herself with Dagur to strike the dragon hunters more violently. Alvin was losing control of his turf, the Outcasts aching for a fight, and to top it all off, Valka was also considering joining Dagur in this crusade.

  To sum it up, the arquipelago was at war, and Hiccup had a broken heart. Sure, one of those was infinitely more important than the other, but still, he was not really in the "Let's be kind to each other!" mood. He was done with diplomacy, but he was also done fighting, and this tangle of strings that he found himself in felt hopeless.

 Blind dragons, huge dragons, green ooze, machinery and metallurgy he had never seen before, the dragon hunters getting bolder; everything felt like a puzzle with no final piece.

  He threw his pencil on the table, stretching against his chair with an annoyed grunt. He stole a look at Toothless.

 - ... You wouldn't happen to have an eye-opening, crucial bit of information, would you?

The dragon looked at him confused, misunderstanding the attention as an invitation to play. Quickly, the dragon pounced his friend, licking his face as the man laughed and pushed the beast away.

 - Okay, okay! I get it! Not the political sort! Here, catch!

He took off his leg, throwing it towards the outside, the dragon flying out the open door.

Hiccup sat himself again. A smile still lingering on his lips until he looked at a necklace on the wall. The betrothal necklace almost taunted him.

A sigh echoed the empty, peaceful cabin. Astrid was all that occupied his mind. He, the silent protector, the dragon rescuer, a guy that unified so many islands and tribes, now reduced to a babbling mess that couldn't even convince a girl that he loves her.

  He got up, leaning against his chair. Staring around his hut, trying to clear his mind, only to be reminded that this place was infested with memories of her as well.

  The bed, the beam she punched, the displaced floorboards that once hid her axe, the fish waiting to be cooked, the sound of her feet pacing the cabin while regaining her strength.

Flustered, his entire body reacted to the embarrassment of longing for someone that utterly rejected him; but he couldn't help it. She was gorgeous, exciting, fierce and smart. She was the perfect viking, more of a viking than he ever even thought of being, and that came back to the root of the problem.

Astrid killed dragons. She killed one just three days ago right where he could see. Sure, he was spying on her, but it was still jarring, gut-wrenching.

Toothless came back, Hiccup's leg slobbered and a bit chewed, but still usable.

 - Awn, bud, c'mon!... It's so nasty...

Toothless growled in joy, doing his unique, and a bit concerning, laugh. Snapping his leg back into place, he started petting the dragon, who affectionally hugged him.  

- You know, bud, Astrid doesn't seem to have a problem with you anymore. She didn't even acknowledge you.

Hiccup remembered their first "meeting". Her blatant fear and distrust of the beast, the side-eyes and murderous glances, but all of that was before she found out who he was. That seemed to be ages ago, a time where Hiccup's sole worry was if Astrid's wounds were healing well.

A nudge from Toothless snapped him out of it.

- It's alright. I'm not going into my "no eat, no sleep" phase again. Don't worry about me.

Reminiscing on the past reminded him of the dragon hunters that day. The flames, all the screaming, the unusual timing on their appearance. It was a huge coincidence, the same moment Hiccup was moving a herd of Terrible Terrors down east, a Berk scouting ship appeared and started shooting towards an unfamiliar vessel, flying no colors on their sails. Hiccup remembered the ballista made of complete steel, the fully armored and trained soldiers that seemed resistant to the dragon's fire. They scared him, a lot of them getting too close for comfort, some actually managing to hit Toothless.

- Never saw them again...

Hiccup stared at his friend:

- How possible is it that they were the only ones, and we'll never see them again? Is it too much wishful thinking?

Toothless growled.

- Yeah, that's a given.

He started the process of saddling up his friend, preparing a bag for a relatively long trip. If those hunters were going west when they ran in with the Hooligans, then that's where he needed to go.

The sea was never-ending.  In multiple moments, Hiccup had traveled this way, looking for something interesting, but relenting apparently way too soon. Instead of turning back once he reached a particularly desert island, he continued towards the horizon.

- Hey, since you can fly, at least we won't fall off the world, huh?

The beast answered by spinning on the air in excitement. Both relishing in the opportunity to fly just like old times. Once they reached the edge of the familiar place, Hiccup started counting the seconds, mentally marking the distance as they kept on route.

It didn't take long for something weird to happen.

They watched as the blue ocean slowly turned a sickly green, a smell that they could only describe as burnt rotted flesh making them flinch. Hiccup put his helmet and mask on, the stench quickly turning unbearable.

- Are you alright with this, bud?

The dragon replied shortly, as if saying "i'm okay". That made the rider feel comfortable in speeding up. The clouds, once white, turned grey, and then took a similar green to the water. Even through his mask, the rider felt his eyes water with the smell.

- Dear Thor, i haven't smelled something so awful since Dagur's spit roast.

Toothless whined, Hiccup petting his side as he reassured:

- Don't worry, bud. We'll just see the source of this and then leave.

Hiccup noticed the waters were vile enough that nothing could be seen moving inside them. He wondered if the creatures that were once here would be able to find a new home, or if there even was a possibility that they escaped this rot.

- Who did this?

He whispered to himself. This was exactly like the green ooze back in Broken Helm Island, but in way bigger quantity and more viscous than anything.

- Get closer to the water, bud. I want to take a sample home.

He pulled a small glass vial from his bag, quickly getting what he needed and pulling Toothless away from the water immediately. Some of it had gotten on his gloved fingers, he observed as, like acid, the fabric was eaten and then stopped.

Several dragons appeared in his mind as he observed the reaction, but the obvious one took the main stage. This was a Sliquifier's acid. But how? How did it get so spread? How many would it take to infect the whole ocean? Could it be only floating on the surface? But what about the clouds?

As if to answer all his questions, Toothless groaned, snapping him out of his investigative state.

There was the source.

It was like a vision of Helheim. The green mist and clouds erupting from the metal construction on the middle of the island, holes of fire and explosions burst inside of it as metal houses spread all around its shore. A metal wall, with fire erupting from the main beams kept the "village" isolated. On the water, packs and packs of ships sailing purple colors were slowly boarded and equipped with guns.

- Eir's sweet embrace, what is that?...

Toothless stared, his eyes going thin as he sensed danger. The rider was about to ask what was wrong, when from the water, a huge mouth flew towards them. Hiccup startled, opening Toothless's tail fin too wide and almost falling inside the beast, but quickly fixing his mistake as he took one of his personal "dragon knocking" concoctions from his bag and threw it down the beast's throat. The rider instructed his friend to fly up, but as soon as Toothless smelled the inside of those toxic clouds, the dragon started shaking and flailing around. The unknown dragon disappeared inside the waves once more, Hiccup assuming his potion worked, but too busy to celebrate.

Toothless roared and flailed, Hiccup’s keen sense of direction and control being the one thing keeping them in the air.

- GET A HOLD OF YOURSELF, BUD!!

The dragon turned his stomach towards the sky, Hiccup only not falling thanks to the security leash chained to the saddle. The rider heard the characteristic high-pitched noise, and soon, Toothless shot towards the sky.

The clouds ignited in flames, the explosion hitting Toothless in the stomach and burning his tail fin, the shock throwing him towards the water and taking Hiccup with him, the man trapped beneath the beast.

They hit the water.

Instantly, Hiccup felt his clothes getting eaten by the liquid, the parts of his skin that were exposed turning red. The rider forced his eyes closed; he could deal with rashes if this truly was a Sliquifier's toxin, but becoming blind wasn't on his bucket list. Toothless's weight still dragged him down, the man unable to find the leash that kept him chained on since the panic clouded his senses. The toxins were really starting to sting as they found ways inside his armor.

Was this it? This is how he was going to die? If this was it, he deserved it.

So many people he left behind, so many friends he turned away, so much help refused, it was obvious this would one day happen. The only thing that weighed in his mind was that he took Toothless down too. The last of the Night Furies would die and it would be his fault. He was careless, he should have turned back as soon as the water looked weird. He should have let this go and just let everyone fight each other, at least then Toothless wouldn't have to die.

He should have let Astrid tell everyone... But why did it always have to be Astrid?

Why did he always need to have someone doing what was truly difficult for him? Why would he ask that of her when she already had so much on her plate?

"Because i don't want her to forget me." His own wavering heart answered.

His mind was blurry, the darkness behind his closed eyes scared him. He felt Toothless start reacting and moving, thinking the dragon was okay, that he would fly away, and they would be fine.

The net that caught them pulled them up, a hard, scaley floor hitting Hiccup as he felt the dirty air hit against his face, taking a deep breath and snapping his eyes open as he forcefully pulled off the mask and helm. He coughed with the deep breath of the toxic air without the mask; noticing his leash had finally snapped, and that Toothless laid beside him, passed out, but breathing. Relieved, he touched a hand to his friend's back.

- Well, that's a unique catch!

Hiccup recognized that voice, turning to assess the full situation.

They were in the back of a titan wing Sliquifier, the gold hue of his scales and the glowing wings giving it away. In front of him, stood Johann, the man he saw getting kicked out of Berk, the leader of the dragon hunters of the south. He was unable to hide his scowl as Johann smiled triumphant.

- The lost heir of Berk, standing helpless and at my mercy. I wonder what i did to receive such gift!... I'm kidding, this wasn't a gift! I planned this very carefully and you fell for it!

The dragon hunter approached Hiccup, who tried to jump forward, only to notice his body was now frozen. Johann kicked the man in the chest, the rider falling limp against Toothless as he breathed rapidly and panicked.

- Did you like my creation? A little Flightmare's toxin mixed with Sliquifier's acid... It lasts twice as long and hurts thrice as much. Oh, what am i saying, you can't answer me!

Hiccup let out a weak grunt, the burning of his skin making his panic heighten. Johann did not care, living in his own, twisted world, he kept his little victory gloat going, signaling to two other dragon hunters to tie Hiccup and Toothless up, one of them removing the rider's metal leg.

- Now, now, i would love to regale you with my tale of greatness all day until the poison runs out, but the plan is not quite finished yet. Afterall, you pesky brat, you are merely bait.

Hiccup knew what he was talking about, Astrid's name popping in loud letters in his fuzzy brain, he couldn't let it happen.

- So, Hiccup Haddock... This is the moment you go to sleep.

A strong hit against his head, and everything went dark.

After she had said her goodbyes to Hiccup, she went out to where the ceremony was taking place to stand next to her and Hiccups mom near the front.

She had a huge smile plastered on her face as well, rocking back and forth on her heels as she waited for them to come out.

Once they were deemed officially married, Danny cheered and clapped as well, though she didn’t cry, because why would she? She was nothing but happy for her brother and sister-in-law.

Danny had been sitting next to Valka in the Great Hall, leaving room across from them for Hiccup and Astrid to join whenever they wanted.

She’d been shoving a plethora of food in her face when they came over [people needed to get married more often, because Gods, this feast was good], but when she saw them, she immediately stopped, waving them over excitedly.

“Hey guys!” she exclaimed. “What’s goin on? Oh, I met your friend Heather, she’s f***ing bada**! Have you seen her axe? It’s crazy! Her brother’s a little weird though.”

“Anyways, when are y’all planning on leaving? Not like, trying to kick you out or anything. Also, Hiccup?” She looked over at him. “Don’t think I didn’t see you almost start crying,” she teased, a playful smirk on her face.

She took another bite of her chicken, which caused Twilight to chitter and come over by her. Danny rolled her eyes, throwing her the rest before focusing back on them.

“So! How does it feel to be officially married? It took what- three years?”

While waiting for a reply, she caught Spitelout glaring at them from a few feet behind Hiccup. She quickly shot him a dirty look before looking back at Hiccup.

Gods, she hated that guy.

Astrid giggled. "I have! I have a similar one, Hiccup made one for me for my last birthday."

Hiccup chuckled. "Eh, just give Dagur some time, you'll warm up to him!"

They sat down across from Danny and Valka, still all smiles and sitting closely together.

Glancing at each other, Hiccup turned back to Danny to answer. "We'll probably head out in a couple hours, get to another island and camp out for the night before continuing our flight tomorrow." He rolled his eyes playfully. "I didn't almost cry, my eyes just...watered a little, seeing Astrid, that's all!"

His new wife rested her head on his shoulder.

They laughed lightly, and Hiccup shrugged. "I'm not sure yet, it's still very new. Ask me again in a couple of months, or even a year!" Astrid elbowed him playfully, which made Hiccup laugh. "I'm just kidding! It feels good, really good!"

He tilted his head. "What was that look for?" Glancing behind him, he understood. "Oh, I see."

Turning back around, he offered Spitelout a friendly smile. "Spitelout! Hey! Uh, enjoying the festivities, I hope?"

Astrid turned to face him as well, but her expression was less than friendly.

Httyd 2 AU 𐋅𐌉𐌂𐌂𐌵𐌐 𐌀𐌍𐌃 Ꮭ𐌀𐌂𐌊's 𐌕𐌀𐌋𐌄 𐌂Ꝋ𐌍𐌕𐌉𐌍𐌵𐌄𐌔

Httyd 02 AU Plotbunnies (Spoilers! 'Keep reading' at your own preference)

Before the story starts, here are a couple of points that needs to be understood.

Jamie comes to live in Berk a few months after the events of 𐋅𐌉𐌂𐌂𐌵𐌐 𐌀𐌍𐌃 Ꮭ𐌀𐌂𐌊's 𐌕𐌀𐌋𐌄. I'm going to write a fic of it before starting Httyd 2. It's going to be similar to the plot of Heather coming to the island but a bit different. (e.g. Astrid is not suspicious of his arrival)

From the series, Viggo and Ryker does not die.

Jamie's parents tell him he's adopted and gave him a pendant that they told him was around his neck when they found him abandoned as a baby.

Now for the plotbunnies for the Httyd 02 AU. Some parts are pretty much the same from things I said before.

🔵Jamie tells Jack he's planning to propose to Astrid and asked help in turning his pendant to the ring. 🟢When it comes to the relationship between Jack and Hiccup, it’s surprisingly Stoick who plays good cop while Aster goes bad cop. 🔵Aster is actually super protective of Jack, even as he tries not to be obvious about it. 🟢Aster and Gobber often make bets with each other on who the winners will be in dragon races or other such competitions. Their choices are usually between Hiccup or Astrid. If on the off chance that neither of the two wins, they check who wins the bet according to the next best placement between the two. 🔵Jack still majors as a medic on the battlefield, but he makes sure to keep up with enough combat techniques to back up a reckless Hiccup. Even with Toothless, they’re not foolproof. 🟢Especially not with Hiccup’s experiments on flight suits. 🔵Toothless and Jack are so done with Hiccup’s clumsy falls with his flight suits. 🟢Jack shots ice out of his hands in a confrontation against Eret and his dragon hunters. 🔵When they return to Berk, Aster tells Jack about his lineage. 🟢The Overlands come from a line of magical people, but over the years, the magic in their blood has gone weaker that it could skip several generations before magic would present itself once more. 🔵Aster also tells Jack about how he knew Pitch and how they were once partners. 🟢Pitch saw him with some woman, misunderstood something and left without a word. 🔵Jack's eyes turn blue when he uses magic. 🟢Eret tells Jamie that he's his long lost brother. 🔵Jamie finds out that Eret is his brother, but he doesn't like the circumstances of their reunion. He needed Eret to prove he wasn't just using this to betray them later on. 🟢Eret proves his loyalty by pushing Astrid out of the way before Drago could strike her. *The next scene is similar to the movie wherein Drago prefers an icy, watery grave for them* 🔵When Jack and Hiccup went off on their own, they encountered the hoard of  dragons without the masked figure. In that encounter, it was a bit rough and Jack got knocked unconscious when a large dragon tail smacked him to the walls. That was when Hiccup pulled out his fire sword to keep them away from Jack. 🟢The masked figured finally showed up at that moment. 🔵Jack regained consciousness half an hour later. Hiccup was glad he was okay, and excited to introduce him to his mother. Jack thought he was dreaming up until the point Toothless pounced on him, showing his own relief that he was fine by licking him. 🟢While Hiccup and Valka bonded, Jack works on controlling his magic. Valka had encountered Drago and Pitch in more than one occasion so she gives Jack tips based on her observations of how Pitch handled his magic. 🔵It was also Valka who gave Jack the idea to reach to Pitch, since they seemed to be of the same people, Jack might have a chance to have Pitch defer to their side. 🟢Adversely though, Valka is not as supportive to Hiccup's idea of reasoning with Drago. While she thought Pitch may still be reasoned with, like Stoick, she thinks Drago to be a lost cause. 🔵Pitch is the one helping Drago summons the dark bewilderbeast. 🟢Drago intends to take Jack as well so he had more magical power at his side. 🔵If he can't get his alliance like he had Pitch's, then he was going to get Pitch to use his magic to put Jack in a trance of obedience. 🟢Pitch later allies himself with Jack and Hiccup after Jack convinced him that they were from the same people and that they should help people.

"Wouldn't it be better than living a life with a creep, just to be feared and hated by people? With us, you have a shot of getting real acceptance."

🔵When Toothless was at a trance and about to hit Hiccup, with Stoick rushing to reach his son in time, Jack gets to Hiccup first to take the blow and dies. 🟢While Hiccup was mourning for Jack, Pitch casts a time sensitive spell which prevented Jack's soul from completely passing on. It revives Jack, but since the mageborn was still on the fence about which side to defer to and he was still on Drago's side currently, Pitch uses a spell right after that puts Jack on a trance and has him going over to Drago's side much to Hiccup's dismay. 🔵Drago leaves them stranded while taking control of all the dragons along with Toothless, plus Jack, and they head for Berk. 🟢When Hiccup snaps both Jack and Toothless out of their trance, Jack goes off alone to confront Pitch one more time and get him to join their side.

Dialogues:

[Astrid and Stormfly fly toward them. Astrid stands on Stormfly's back, keeping her balance.] Jamie: Get 'em, Astrid! Tuffnut: It's MY glory! Ruffnut: Always ruining EVERYTHING! Tuffnut: NO SHEEP, NO GLORY!

[Astrid leaps off of Stormfly, runs up Belch's spindly neck, and plucks the Black Sheep from the Twins' hands.]

Astrid: Gotcha! Ha-ha!

[She tumbles through the air onto Stormfly, sticking a perfect landing, the Black Sheep in hand.]

Tuffnut: Whoa! Ruffnut: Astrid!

Stoick: Well played! Ha, ha, ha! Jamie: (To the crowd) That's my girl!

Fishlegs: Yoo-hoo!

[Back to Astrid on Stormfly, eyeing the fast-approaching finish line, unaware as Fishlegs suddenly rams Meatlug into Stormfly, sending Astrid off-course. She recovers and sees Snotlout flying headlong toward her, war hammer cocked, aiming at Astrid.]

Snotlout: Uh, excuse me! Astrid: Stormfly!

[Snotlout hurls his hammer. Astrid ducks and rolls Stormfly out of the way. The hammer catches Fishlegs in the face with a CLANG. The crowd collectively winces.]

Crowd: Oh!

[Astrid and Stormfly recover from their roll, loop over the water, and they blast past the finish line, dunking the Black Sheep into their basket! ASTRID WINS!]

Stoick: That's thirteen! Astrid takes the game!

Hiccup: This is amazing! *sees a stone pillar ahead of his flight fight* No longer amazing... Jack: Toothless, that's your cue! Toothless:*dives in and saves Hiccup similarly to the movie, they tumble onto safe ground awkwardly* Jack: *Is thrown off Toothless haphazardly* Hic, I love you unconditionally and unquestionably, but your fly-falling with style? A little less unconditional. Hiccup: Toothless just needs to work on a better landing, that's all! Jack, sarcastically: Sure, blame the dragon. Toothless, growling before slapping Hiccup with his ear:  Hiccup: Ow! Jack: Couldn't have said it better myself, lizard.

Hiccup: So what should we name it? [Toothless chews at his armpit]Hiccup: "Itchy Armpit" it is. Jack: You should work on your naming skills, Hic. [Jack gives Hiccup a moment to finish including the addition of the new island they discovered on his journal before diverting the topic elsewhere.] Jack: So, quick question to interrupt your mapping. *he says this while casually twirling his staff* I love flying with you and Toothless and all. Jack: But any reason in particular you dragged me from Aster’s Trading post to go all the way out here. Jack: Instead of, I don’t know… The race you’ve been preparing for weeks now? Jack: I’m open with options that doesn’t involve clothes. Hiccup: *Rolls his eyes as he answers curtly* I'm avoiding dad. Jack: *In deadpan* Oh no. Pretending now I wasn't there during the conversation, tell me about it. [Hiccup proceeds to explain things and gestures wildly as he rants. Jack doesn’t interrupt or anything, but he does mirror Hiccup’s actions playfully while his mouth mimes the words his boyfriend speaks. Hiccup finally notices at one point and tugs Jack down on his lap.] Jack: I like where this is going... Hiccup: Could you— *he tries not to smile but come on this is Jack we’re talking about. Finally, he clears his throat* Jackson Overland, this is serious. Jack: Okay, okay. I’ll behave. [Hiccup finally continues. And gets to the part of Stoick wanting to make Hiccup chief soon.] Jack: Sounds about right. Jack: He’s the chief. You’re his son, the next in line. Jack: What, did you except that you’d take over Gobber’s blacksmithing business? Hiccup: That's— Well, I kinda hoped… Jack: Hiccup… Hiccup: It’s just… I’m not ready. Hiccup: And I know we had this talk before too, yeah, “Oooh~ I rather be Jackson Overland, the next chief’s sweetheart” and not just meh~ “Jackson Overland, the Blacksmith’s sweetheart”. Jack: *snorting and hitting him lightly on the head with the safe end of his staff* A flattering impression, Hic. Hiccup: But... I'm scared I might mess it up. Jack: And that’s okay. Hiccup: Last I checked, it's not really 'okay' to mess up. Jack: Which has never stopped us before, if you don't recall. The whole feud with dragons and you Vikings ended because of our "messing tradition up" and that worked out well enough. In the end, we manage to make it work. Jack: Kidding aside, you’ll get to that point where you'll accept the role wholeheartedly, and you'll know just what to do when you're made chief. You have it in you, Hic. Hiccup: How could you know that? Jack: Well, you have your dad's stubbornness, for one thing. Jack: And also, it's because I believe in you. Hiccup, smiling: *stands up and pulls Jack against him* Hiccup: What would I do without you?

Jack: Well, get married, for one thing. Hiccup: Hiccup: What? Jack: What? *narrows his eyes and playfully pushed Hiccup away with a mock angry face* Hiccup Horrendous Haddock, I swear to the gods you vikings believe in, if you're not planning on proposing someday, I'm taking Toothless and leaving you on this Itcyrock. Hiccup, chuckling: It's Itchyarmpit. Hiccup: Also, you can't fly Toothless. Jack: Way to miss the fucking point, Haddock. Hiccup, laughing and pulling Jack in once more: You know I'm just kidding. Jack: You'd better be. Hiccup: Does this mean you're saying 'yes' someday?

Jack: Hm, maybe after pranking you with 'no' just to mess with you. Hiccup: It's only an effective prank if I don't know about it, you dork. Jack:  Unless you forget. Jack: Now are you going to kiss me already or not?

Hiccup:  Gladly.

[Hiccup smiles softly and starts to lean in for a kiss. Then a strange explosion erupted somewhere farther North of them. A strange explosion… of Ice.]

[Hiccup and Jack go in close to inspect the area where they saw the ice explosion]

Hiccup: It's... Ice? Jack: *steadily stands up as Toothless hovers near the tall spiky icicles, and reached out to touch it* Definitely is, brr. *shakes the cold from his hands* But it doesn't seem like a naturally formed glacier. Hiccup: Yeah, I wonder what caused it... [Suddenly, a blast was heard and Toothless dodges before Jack and Hiccup realizes a net was headed towards them. Jack loses balance and starts to fall...] Jack: Hiccup!

[Toothless dives to rescue Jack, and the moment of relief Hiccup felt at the success of the dragon doing so was gone when he spots three cages filled with dragons and immediately maneuvers Toothless towards them.]

Hiccup: Oookay... This is a problem. Jack: Less talking, more moving. *Moves to start picking on the locks* let's hurry before the ones who did this shows up...

[Suddenly, a voice yells from a distance...]

Eret: Stop right there! Jack: and says something as cliché as that...

Eret: I am Eret, son of Eret, dragon hunter extraordinaire. 

Jack: Yeah... Can't say we've had good run ins with dragon hunters. But you seem like a nice guy, would be a shame to burn you to a crisp. Hiccup: Also, son of Eret? What's your father's introduction, Eret, dad of Eret? Jack: Cut him some slack, Hic. The words they can spell might be limited.

[As the rest of his crew yells complains and curses to Hiccup, Jack, Astrid, and Jamie's departure, Eret picks up the pendant Jamie unknowingly left behind...]

Eret: This is... *His eyes widened as he looks towards the fleeing group* Jamie?

[Hiccup and Jack arrive on Toothless along with Jamie and the others]

Stoick: Haha! There he is!*To Gobber, proving his point* Huh? The pride of Berk! Aster: And his beau, in which both decided to finally show up for work. *Shoves Jack a crate he needs brought to his stall* Gobber: Yay. *waves his prosthetic hand with sarcastic enthusiasm.* Hiccup: Sorry. Got held up. Jack, shrugging: Yeah, and you know the rules, I am where he's at. Aster: Not a rule if it's self-made, showpony. Jack: My next rule is that it is. My third rule is 'honesty is the best policy.' Aster: Since when? Jack: Since I found out I can shoot ice out of my hands, and figured hey, maybe there's something Aster's not telling me. Aster:  Aster: Oh. Jack: 'Oh'?! So, you did keep something from me for all these years!? Hiccup: Okaaaay, clearly there's a lot to unpack right now. Let's take it slow, snowflake...

[Hiccup just introduces his mother to Jack. Jack observes the large dragon utopia beheld in front of him and the woman standing beside Hiccup said to be his boyfriend's dead mother. ]

Jack: Am I dead or dreaming?

[Toothless excitedly pounces and licks Jack after seeing him awake from his previous unconscious state]

Hiccup: So, what's the verdict? Jack: Decidedly not dead or dreaming, but in desperate need of a bath now. Hiccup: You know that it doesn't really wash out completely even then. Jack: Hope springs eternal. Jack: Toothless. Down boy. *expression is an odd mixture of a grimace and amusement* I'm okay, you're still getting more grilled Icelandic cod from me in the future, relax.

[Astrid and Jamie along with the others abduct Eret to question him about the possible whereabouts of Jack and Hiccup. Before that though, Jamie saw Eret wearing his pendant...]

Jamie: Hey, that's mine! Eret: So it's true. It really is yours. Jamie: Yes, it's mine and you better give me it back or... *Jamie is interrupted by a hug from Eret* Uh, what? Astrid: Okay, what's happening here? Ruffnut: Beats me, but Jamie, can we switch? Jamie: *Pushes Eret away* Okay, let's have some boundaries here now. What's that for? And I said give me that back. *He snatches the pendant from Eret's neck* Eret: Jamie, don't you remember? It's me; I'm your brother! Jamie: Jamie: Again... Everyone: What?!

[Valka goes into the closest thing she has for a kitchen and sees Jack preparing food...]

Jack: Ah, sorry for using it without permission. Magic training can be entertaining only for so long. Turns out, using it is equally as draining as, say, running about. Also, it's a bit passed lunch, so I decided to start on it. Much as I like the dragons, you could say it's not on the same level as Hiccup, or yourself. Jack: I do enjoy listening to him talk about it, though. Valka: Oh, no. It's fine. By the looks of it, you're managing better than me. I lost a little of the... home-cooking touch, after all these years. Valka: So, you're dating my son. Jack, blushing: I... Yes. I hope that isn't a problem for you, madam. Valka: Not at all. Considering all this time, it's more suitable for you to be someone special to him, compared to calling myself his mother. Jack: Jack: Running the risk of over stepping, I don't think you should worry about that too much. If I'm being honest, seeing you two interact in the last couple hours, it seems like there's more you in him than the chief. Jack: Though, the stubbornness, he definitely got from Stoick... Er, just don't tell the chief I said that. Valka: *chuckles* I don't think I could even if I wanted to. Jack: Right... Sorry. Valka: Now allow me to run the risk of over stepping... I'm curious, as his mother of course... What do you like the most about Hiccup? Jack: Oh, that's... Well... *makes vague gestures with his hands* He's funny, and I like fun, so that's one. But I wouldn't say it's the most... He's also caring, obviously different from the others but in a good way just... It's just all of him. He's not really Hic with all his good parts. Valka: *chuckling* good answer. Here, maybe you can show me how you're making that.

[The two continues to work on the food. After a while, they hear Hiccup scream for a moment before it sounded muffled. The two shared a look, before rushing out, Jack grabbing his staff on his way out, only to see that Stoick and Gobber have arrived.]

Stoick: Remember our song, Val? Stoick: I'll swim and sail on savage seas with ne'er a fear of drowning... Stoick: And gladly ride the waves of life if you would marry me.. Stoick: No scorching sun nor freezing cold will stop me—

Gobber: ...on my jour... ney. Jack and Hiccup: 😑🙄 Hiccup, in hushed tones: Really, Gobber? Jack, murmuring as well: This isn't bonfire night sing-a-long... Gobber, quietly: Sorry...

Stoick, annoyed before proceeding: If you will promise me your heart... Stoick: And love Stoick: Valka: And love me for eternity... Valka: My dearest one, my darling dear, your mighty words astound me, Valka: But I've no need for mighty deeds when I feel your arms around me! Stoick: But I would bring you rings of gold, I'd even sing you poetry Valka: Oh, would you? Stoick: And I would keep you from all harm if you would stay beside me! Valka: I have no use for rings of gold, I care not for your poetry Valka: I only want your hand to hold Stoick: I only want you near me

Gobber laughed and started whipping and dancing along to Stoick and Valka's dancing and singing.

Valka and Stoick: To love and kiss to sweetly hold, for the dancing and the dreaming. Through all life's sorrows and delights—

At one point, he nudges Hiccup to Jack, more like shove. The two boys laughed and smiled at each other before dancing as well.

Valka and Stoick: —I'll keep your laugh inside me, I'll swim and sail a savage seas with ne'er a fear of drowning! I'd gladly ride the waves so white and you will marry me!

Stoick carries and spins with Valka in his arms, and Hiccup pulls Jack into him worming his arm around Jack's waist and the older boy gave him a peck on the cheek as Stoick and Valka embraced tenderly...

Gobber: Eee I'm still going, I'm done!

Stoick: Now all we need is for Jack and Hiccup to marry and adopt us a grandkid! Hiccup and Jack, choking on a drink: Valka: Maybe too soon, love? Stoick: What 'too soon'?! I want a grandchild to bounce on my knees without being out of shape and it hurting too much! Gobber: With the training you do everyday, I don't think you could ever be out of shape, Stoick.

I’d sell my soul to the devil only to see this happen in the movie. It was also an excuse to draw an angry looking Hic because he’s too hot don’t question me I might do a digital version of this, meanwhile enjoy uwu (No backgrounds because I’m lazy)

I’ve seen a handful of alternate universes where Hiccup gets taken that night with Valka, but what if Hiccup gets taken instead of Valka? like I have a lot of ideas and I need to get them out of my brain

1) For the first movie, instead concepts of feeling like an outcast to your own people and parental issues, it’s going to focus a lot more on the affects of grief/how to move on without pushing it down and marital issues (stoick and valka love each other dearly but you can’t tell me they wouldn’t have issues; dw they work through them because of the first thing).

2) Hiccup, instead of being taken by Cloudjumper, gets taken by a night fury. This sets up Valka’s motive for shooting down a night fury, as she narratively takes Hiccup’s place. Overall she still believes in the idea of peace with dragons (or at least claims such), but she’s dead set on taking down the local night fury because she believes it’s the same one that took her son. When she realizes that it’s Toothless, a very obviously juvenile dragon, she just. can’t take it any more. all that anger she held just fizzles out. “I did this. You aren’t the dragon that took my son.”

3) Everyone else in the original dragon riders group has now gained a crazy dragon lady aunt ! Astrid + Valka’s bond means a lot to me, especially because in that one comic there’s a flashback where Stoick mentions that they’ve always wanted a daughter. iirc we don’t really see Astrid’s parents much? if at all? arguably you could say this about the rest of them but Astrid is obviously a more prominent character in the first movie so I think Astrid forming a strong bond with another female warrior, especially an adult figure to look up to and rely on, would be nice (I know there’s technically Heather later down the line but she’s not really a permanent fixture in Astrid’s life in regards to canon).

4) HICCUP IN DRAGON ARMOR LIKE VALKA’S. OHHHH THAT WOULD BE SO COOL. DO YOU UNDERSTAND THE LEVELS OF COOLNESS THAT WOULD BE

5) also since Hiccup wasn’t in Berk this means we get Astrid as a chieftess by the end of HTTYD 2. also there’s a budding romance between Hiccup and Astrid by the end of the second movie but nothing comes of it (yet) because THW isn’t real and I haven’t thought up my own third movie yet

6) HICCUP’S CHARACTER DESIGN IS. LIVING IN MY HEAD. sorry I just think it would be. really cool ! also he would behave so much like a dragon because he was literally raised by dragons. he learns to speak common tongue from observing other humans/mostly traders and eventually his allies (such as the Wingmaidens) but he doesn’t really spend much time with humans overall so he’s much more accustomed to communicating with dragons so he himself is very dragon-like.

7) Unfortunately the night fury that takes Hiccup is not seen again after going out one night :( This is where Cloudjumper comes in and takes care of Hiccup as his own, like the night fury once did. Hiccup was young when the night fury disappeared, so he doesn’t remember much of her, but is amazed when he first meets Toothless. the two get along like a house on fire :D

8) also Valka and Toothless’s relationship >>> she realizes that she’s lost her way and she is perpetuating the cycle of violence and hatred onto a new generation and is refusing to continue it. Toothless is pretty much the same as he is in the original movie, but I guess you could say his actions are seen much more through a childlike lens? since Valka is significantly older than him. I personally believe that Toothless never grew up with his parents because while he obviously has amazing prowess as a dragon, there seems to be abilities that he never had access to previously that I feel he would have if he had grown up with another night fury in his life. so he kind of imprints a little on Valka’s motherly nature. but these two are literally besties :( inseparable family. eventually Stoick joins in too and they’re just. it’s like that one meme: “ah yes: me, my wife, and her two ton dragon.” I love them.

9) also you know that little intro Hiccup makes for Stoick at the beginning of HTTYD 1? it’s altered a little bit because this is through Valka’s narration. not badly, but a little funnier. like so: “They say that when he was a baby he popped a dragon's head clean off of its shoulders. Do I believe it? Absolutely not.”

10) I’m just saying shit and not really getting out any of the main points but i just. have a lot of Thoughts ! ask me about them!!

Some HTTYD Headcannons:

Remember this is MY opinion. You’re allowed to disagree. Also a lot of them are about Snotlout. Sorry i just love my boy.

Snotlout doesn’t swoon for Thor Bonecrusher because he’s in love with Fishlegs… it’s because he has a thing for people who can beat him up.

Hiccup sketches and doodles during chief/town meetings.

Hiccup is autistic, fishlegs and snotlout could also be.

The twins have ADHD.

Heather is a lesbian. Astrid is Bi and slightly in love with Heather, but doesn’t even realize it.

The braid in Fishlegs’ hair was done by his mom.

Snotlout’s hands always feel sweaty but it’s actually just nightmare gel from Hookfang. Sometimes his hands actually are just sweaty tho but he plays it off.

Because of Hookfangs nightmare gel, before Snotlout got a saddle, he usually had some pretty suspicious looking stains on his pants.

Snotlout cried himself to sleep a week or month ish after moving to the edge because he missed his mom.

Astrid is dyslexic. I have no proof, I just feel like she would be.

Ruff is actually really smart, and if she didn’t have Tuff, she wouldn’t be nearly as reckless as she is. She would actually be a lot more like Astrid.

On the same note, if Tuff didn’t have Ruff, he’d be TWICE as reckless.

Hiccup is demi sexual.

You know Snotlout’s missing tooth? Yeah that’s from when Hiccup punched him in rtte. (I’m aware he has it in the first movie just pretend he doesn’t I like this better)

Snotlout has a pretty severe phobia of lightning and thunderstorms.

Snotlout is not a very strong swimmer. He’s had to be saved more times than he’d like to admit.

A list of underrated and underused httyd duos:

Platonic Astrid & Eret - i feel like these two would be pretty good friends and Eret would probably have a special bond with Stormfly do that would bring them closer together. Also I may or may not enjoy the hiccup jealous of eret fics 🤭 I am by no means a THW hater but the fact we didn't get any of this duo was disappointing.

Platonic Astrid & Snotlout - Snotlout's Angels is one of my fave filler episodes of RTTE because it's cool to see them look at Snotlout's attitude to women, Astrid especially, and it was just overall hilarious. But I so wish we got more bonding between them. There is loads of Astrid and Snotlout moments in the show but it's mostly banter or comedy. I would've loved to see a bit with them turning to each other for comfort or something (the lack of this is probably why I'm writing a fanfic for it 🙃)

Hiccup & Tuffnut - the duo I didn't know I wanted until THW. There are loads of twins+Hiccup moments but I don't think there's many of just them (or maybe I've forgotten 🤷‍♀️). Just havin Tuffnut bring Hiccup's therapist and advisor whilst Hiccup rolls his eyes for the 100849th time. That's all, thank you.

Astrid & Valka - another one I hoped to have seen in THW. To be fair, there was a scene between them cut from the movie so at least they were planning on it. But I feel like they could've kept it in instead of the prolonged "Ruffnut thinks she's hot" bit. The haddock wives bonding over the haddock men. I know it fails the Bechdel test but eh. Although, I suppose they did get a scene together in the comics. Would've liked a nice personal convo between them tho.

Astrid & Ruffnut - I'm 99% sure there are no scenes of them together alone. They're the only two girls in the gang, I would've loved to seen some girl talk between them or just them slowly becoming better friends because Astrid seems closer with (obviously Hiccup) and maybe Fishlegs and Snotlout, even Tuffnut in an episode. But apart from Ruff having a go at her, there's no AstridxRuff duo. Unpopular opinion: I would've much preferred Astrid and Ruffnut together than Astrid and Heather.

Hiccup & Valka - this, again, is mostly directed towards THW. Hiccup and Valka have plenty of scenes and moments together but I wanted something in the aftermath of HTTYD 2. A lil angst even, if they could fit it in. Hiccup's mom came back after 20 years of absence, surely it's not as easy as just pretending it never happened and acting all normal. I feel like maybe this would've been better as a bit in the comics rather than the movie. Even just them grieving Stoick together. They didn't talk much in the third and I think that was a missed opportunity.

Astrid & Stoick - theres definitely moments for these characters, it's not non-existent. But I'm greedy, I would've wanted more. There's loads of fanart of Stoick being the biggest hiccstrid shipper, how cool would it have been to see that come to life a bit more.

This isn't a duo per say but just overall Dragon Swapping in general is something that would've been really cool to see. Like, Snotlout riding Stormfly? Astrid on Hookfang? Tuffnut on Toothless? These would've made for some pretty funny moments.
