Making a mental tier list on how well I'd get on with / be able to have a conversation with BL actors based solely on their university major and what we've seen in non-zany interviews is an exercise in hilarity.
I guess, thankfully, a handful of my faves are massive STEM nerds, and I might be able to impress them with my /r/AskScience cred and IT history. Also, I have extremely questionable taste / knowledge in man-man hobbies like shooting things (thanks to an ex-boyfriend who was a Democrat but sure liked his guns) and cars.
I adore thinking about shit like this. It's weird, but my brain is extra spicy after three days of sleep deprivation — Thanks three day weekend! You're a, bro.

Yesterday the fatigue demons had me in an iron grip so I was so happy that I had the energy (and Luna the motivation) to go on a big walk today 😌

Do you ever think about how pets only live like 12-17 years, which is NOTHING, and somehow you're lucky enough to coincide and share those ≈15 years with your very own specific kitty or doggy? How wonderful is that. Out of the entire history of time, they're only here for a few years, and we have the honor to be there with them

Today we went on a farm call, and the client had the animals ready when we got there, had already filled out the form we sent him ahead of time, moved the animals efficiently and calmly, was polite but didn't want to shoot the breeze for an hour, then gave us too much cash and told us to keep the change because we don't charge enough! And all the animals were nice and well-mannered!
When Doc and I got back in the truck we just looked at each other and were like, "What just happened? Is this real life?" 🤣

I cannot survive this day lol
#it’s only noon and I need to go to bed immediately and start over#our one triumph today: at the dentist he had his first truly epic blowout - we’re talking poop all up his back inside his onesie#no changing table in the bathroom#and my mom had taken the car so no access to the more elaborate changing setup in the car#so I had to change him on the floor using the three remaining wipes in the pack#while he screamed like he was being tortured and kicked poop everywhere#but we did it we made it and then he chugged a bottle of milk like a soldier who’d just survived his first skirmish with the enemy#I have to take ruthie to the vet in a couple hours but she’s started acting fine today so I’m afraid I’ll be wasting a huge amount of money#meanwhile Pip has started vomiting everywhere#but I think he’s just stressed about baby/sudden change#naturally though I had to have a huge crying jag in the bathroom about the fact of his mortality#anyway friends I’m hanging in there#I need to just simplify simplify simplify#I will lie down for a bit now#then I will try to walk the dogs so it’s out of the way#need to leave by 2:30 to get Ruthie in#and I can listen to a hockey podcast and feel more human on the way#then once that’s done I can just do nothing tonight if I need to#my mom is leaving around 4 for the evening but#I’ve mixed the formula and cleaned all the bottles so I think I can just like#hopefully lie around with the baby#the other thing I need to do is write my mom a thank you letter before she leaves#I just haven’t had the energy but maybe I can ask her to take the baby for an hour tomorrow#and sit outside somewhere and work on it#postpartum tag#today has just been a higher difficulty level lol but I’ll have other kinds of days too#all will be well

Because I must always remind people, Mix is studying veterinary science in real life.
Tumblr media
Vice Versa even had him play a vet.
Tumblr media
@sliceduplife pointed out that his character's job on Cupid's Last Wish was also changed from a flower farm owner to a dairy farm owner because of his education.
Tumblr media
I think he'll make an excellent vet!

If you haven’t read the Reddit post on r/economiccollapse titled “You Need to Prepare for the Collapse of the US Emergency Medical System” you should. But since it seems like human med is going the direction of veterinary medicine, here are some tips from an ER vet tech
for patients:
If it is not life or death, it probably does not belong in the ER. - this means, just because your GP can not see you until next Thursday doesn’t mean you should go to the ER and if you do, you need to be prepared for an 8 hour wait on the best of days, and a criticals only on the worst, meaning you will be turned away at the door or after triage (wait times for triages at this point can be in the realm of several hours). This will also be the case of things that are emergent but not life threatening such as broken limbs, lacerations, worsening symptoms in chronically ill patients, etc
If you do go to the ER, you need to wear PPE. A mask at the very least. Limit contact with things. People will be there with infectious diseases for hours without triage, likely spreading germs around where people could catch them easily.
Be prepared and prevent emergencies as much as you can. Get vaccines. Go to you general practitioners. Make appointments as soon as you notice symptoms. Keep up on your meds. Do not put yourself in a position to need emergency services.
Know where your nearest ER is and how to get to it. You will no longer be able to rely on federally funded programs like 911 and EMS
For health care providers:
4:1 ratios for inpatient is normal for us. Set up your patients as close together as you can, ideally you want to be able to see everyone’s vitals from each patient’s bedside. Batch your meds and orders whenever you can. Try to take breaks from the vantage point where you can see all of your patients.
you will start seeing death at a significantly higher rate than you have in the past. In vet med not a day goes by where we don’t see it, we are a unfunded medical service, our patients must pay for treatment or they will not be able to receive it - thus our mortality rates are unfortunately higher. Remember to talk to someone about this. We have a nonprofit called NOMV that funds hot and warm lines for peer support. Our suicide rates are astronomical, please remember to take care of yourselves and each other. I know it’s hard, but maybe we can be someone you guys lean on a bit. We know what it’s like to see the direct consequences of the economy on the care we are able to provide. I, for one, will try my very best to support you all. We’re in this together now
Family practice and other non emergency clinics will need to start practicing outside of their scope in order to increase good overall outcomes. Emergency medicine starts with GPs. If the patient can be stabilized, it is best to try and keep them out of the ER whenever possible.
of course this is not a comprehensive list and I am just a vet tech and not a doctor. If you have advice I haven’t listed or want to provide nuance or correct anything you see that you feel requires it, please do. We are in for a long, hard road, y’all. Look out for your people and stay safe
