Hanzoku Sentai Genshōger

Loosely translating as Bandit Squadron Phenomenon-Rangers.

Genshōger is an original team of my design with a Japanese folklore inspired, ninja, and yokai motif. Since yokai are typically the villains this team is made up of more anti-hero type characters, they lean toward good but stay mainly in a gray area. Within their world, the real villains are the powers-that-be, who report the Genshōgers as being evil and this is what's widely believed by the general public.

The five members are social outcasts and undesireables who fight against insurmountable odds but are committed to defending the truth.

Greek God Ares gets an introduction to World of the Coinless through Skull--or one of the other baby Oranges. I mean, if Santa, Loki, and Thor get a go, why not a more...sympathetic immortal.

Santa Thor Loki and arguably Neptune lol. And it’s always super hilarious to me how chill everyone is at the concept of the gods and Santa being real aside from star struck hero worship lol like oh yea the gods are real! Santa’s an actual person! This is a normal Tuesday! It’s amazing to me. I’d love to see them be introduced at the beginning of a series just to see if it’s acclimation to weird that lets the rangers and associates roll with this or if they’re just Like That before rangerdom

Fic Summary:

many things can incite change from one reality to another. Some can have one change that results in tragedy centuries later. In one world, in one time, Ares is never found in the jar, and never rescued. The concept of war and bloodlust goes wild without one of its key gods to help regulate it. Resulting in one boy centuries after Ares’ imprisonment turning left when he should have gone right. Ignoring mercy when he otherwise would have sought it out and clung to it. Fifteen years after all that, an exhausted spy finds an ancient clay jar stoppered up in an old junk heap. Deft fingers pry the cork loose, and finally finally, Ares is free again. A bit maddened, a bit feral, but very willing to do his best to help. It’s not his fault, but this landscape is where he thrives best. So, with Skull, Ares enters the sentries and decides to get to work. Waging war from within and confronting the boy now man who is far too similar for his liking. Tact may not be Ares usual mode, but subterfuge keeps him close to the fascinating little sentry and his partner, and Ares is loathe to let anything happen to them. Plus; a wolf in sheep’s clothing is quite viscous when it’s able to infiltrate the flock.

Fic Excerpt:

Eugene looked from the empty bottle in his hand to the gaunt practically skeleton with skin and hair that had shot out of it with a scream and back to the bottle in his hand. The skeletal naked man moaned as he stroked the ground beneath him lovingly. It was…bizarre and uncomfortable. He was also muttering in a language Eugene wasn’t sure he recognized.

“Are you a genie?” He asked. It was all he could think to ask. The man looked up, then staggered to his feet with a despondent mutter. His voice, cracked and rough, lilted into a question sound. Eugene shook his head. “Man I only know English, ESL, and rudimentary Spanish from high school and even that I barely passed-mph!” The man had seemingly given up with niceties and suddenly there was a tongue in Eugene’s mouth and hands keeping his head still. He dropped the jar, slapping at the man’s arms but it was like hitting iron bars. Eventually he was let go, falling onto his ass as the man wiped his mouth with the back of his hand. “Apologies” said the not very apologetic sounding man. “There was no time to learn your language the traditional way. I had to borrow a page from Aphrodite.”

“Some kiss.” Eugene said numbly, touching his lips. The man laughed. “I’m Ares” he said, crouching beside Eugene. “A god of war, and harvest. And I owe you a great debt for letting me out of that jar.”

“A god.” Eugene’s head was spinning. “And here I was half expecting a genie.”

Like, YEAH, I have Mighty Morphin Power Campers !! BUT !! Power Rangers is such a huge franchise, and there are so many TD characters that you can play around with p much any kind of team dynamic!

There's also, like, a lot of PR colors... Pink, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, black, white... various versions of those guys...

There's like... a butt ton of Ranger teams in the franchise, so have at it!

A fun night at Malabar park. I took the 3wt and started with one of my crossover flies. I had intended to target Bluegill tonight but the Bass had other ideas. There were lots of Bluegill hits but only 1 or 2 made any real attempt to take the fly. I missed those and a couple other Bass. There wasn't a lot of top water activity around the pond tonight. I fished a bit of the west side. I am becoming a better and more confident caster.

For size reference from the rod butt to the top of the cork it is 10".

The first bass was caught on a size 8 crossover.

The other three were all caught on size 8 Morphin Mighty Micros. Yellow then orange.

🧡TENGU ORANGE🧡

Tengu: Brooding

There are several types of tengu in Japanese lore. This ranger, specifically, takes aspects of the daitengu and kotengu (greater and lesser tengu, respectively). The silver crest on the top of the helmet is shaped as such to mimic the long nose that daitengu is depicted with, but with wing shapes to represent the bird-like appearance that kotengu have. Daitengu are solitary but intelligent, and their intelligence makes them formidable and terrible. They typically live on high secluded mountaintops.

Brooding Soldier:

Orange is new to being part of a group. He has been on his own for so long it’s hard for him to adjust to a team dynamic. Vulnerability makes him uncomfortable, and he likes to process his feelings on his own. Orange uses clever tricks to redirect the focus of discussion away from himself. He doesn't want to burden others with his baggage. His team tries to help him learn to unwind and let go of the tension he’s been carrying. He has a group of friends now, not just a team, a group that supports each other no matter what.

Okay, so Power Rangers is done with adaptations, but what if there was a season where every Ranger came from one of the 11 different teams whose suits went entirely unused?

Power Rangers All-Stars

It could very easily go the RPM/Dino Charge route of being its own universe, especially given that Cosmic Fury was the definitive end of that continuity. Maybe all of them could be the sole survivors from PR teams that had all fallen in battle.

The Baron/All-Star Red (Engine Fire)

ToQ 1 was my first choice for a protagonist solely because I loved the idea of the Rangers traveling via a magic train their Red owned. There’s also a bit of irony in the team being led by a Ranger from a Sentai without a leader, and it’s especially fitting since his season has a color swap gimmick. Even the All-Stars’ colors match the ToQgers. Aside from Blue, his suit is the least armored, giving the impression he’s tough enough without it.

He’s the one who’s lost the most, but Baron acts as a mostly eccentric figure, a eternally optimistic goofball who insists the team does the usual Sentai theatrics. He’s probably insane, but he gets results easily and is far smarter than people give him credit for.

Cory/All-Star Yellow

The rookie, fittingly wearing the newest suit courtesy of the 50th team. He’s the last of seven core members to join, doing so in the first episode while everyone else has already been at it for a while now, and he’s from Season 49, 7 squared. He’s also dinosaur themed, matching Mighty Morphin and fitting the protagonist well. On a more serious note, since the GoZyugers seem to be fighting each other in addition to everything else going on, he’ll be the only one who wasn’t already on a team.

He’s somewhere between Casey Rhodes and Tyler Navarro; young, looking for answers, ludicrously strong but not entirely confident in his skills as a Ranger, but he doesn’t have to lead so that’s at least one less thing on his plate.

His name is a play on Kyoryuger (“kyoryu” means “dinosaur”).

Jade/All-Star Green (FACET)

There’s no particular reason why I chose Kiramei Green, her suit’s just my favorite from her team.

Jade is Baron’s second in command. She’s the team’s heart and soul, being the most sensible person in All-Stars for numerous reasons. She’s soft spoken, yet firm. That’s why Baron trusts her.

Virgil/All-Star Blue (Phantom Force)

I wanted both of the VS Sentai to be on the core team, which of course meant I more or less had to use them for Blue and Pink.

Virgil’s a notorious showoff and charmer in the vein of Chase or Xander. He’s naturally talented enough that he doesn’t feel the need to take anything seriously, which can rub some of his teammates the wrong way.

Siren/All-Star (Hyper Guard)

Siren is a direct and stark contrast with Virgil, being fierce, dedicated, sometimes even harsh. Think Jen or Sky but with Vida’s temperament. The two argue constantly but work together perfectly.

As a duo, their first initials spell out “VS”, and their individual names are a pun on “vigilante” and literally “siren”.

Rod/All-Star Orange (Cyber Corps)

The smart guy, he creates most of technology the team uses that didn’t come from their original teams. Bun Orange fit the role pretty well; he himself had the uncanny ability to get anything the team needed, and PR’s precursors to Fern (Boom and Kat Manx) were the science types.

Rod also happens to be a robot, or at least some sort of mechanical life form; all the Orange Sentai starting from ToQger, that is to say all of them outside of Battle Fever J, are nonhuman. He’s got a very similar personality to Alpha, being quick to panic and slightly unlucky.

Asher/All-Star Violet (Hexagon)

Finally is Asher, whose counterpart is the only violet Sentai to be part of the core, starting group. Personality wise, they’re practically identical to their Sentai self with a bit of Gokaiger’s Joe and RPM’s Dillon for flavor. They’re the most serious and aloof of the seven, as serious as you can be in a lavender moth suit.

Oh, and there’s four “sixth” rangers on the team I guess.
