Arthur woke to Merlin thrashing, convulsing through some sort of night terror. He held Merlin close, and tried to keep him from injuring himself through the spasms, but he was entirely uncertain whether that was even the right thing to do.

He noticed, as the minutes went on, that Merlin had been getting increasingly warmer. With growing terror he realized that Merlin was incredibly hot, burning up as if the dreams themselves were causing some sort of incredible magical fever. Arthur couldn't remember the last time he’d felt so powerless. It was a relief then, if a surprise, when Morgana knocked on their door and entered as soon as Arthur was able to stammer some sort of assent.

Morgana walked in, with a confidence and certainty of action Arthur couldn't remember ever seeing in her before. The room seemed to drop in temperature as she crossed in, and, in moments, she brought a hand to Merlin’s chest and one to his face. Arthur could feel the cold radiating off her. Merlin’s temperature crashed drastically as he woke with a start to the cold shock that rippled through from the point of Morgana's contact, and he breathed in sharp and deep like a man just saved from drowning.

“More like the pyre…” Morgana said, responding to the thought Arthur had never voiced.

Merlin panted as he assessed the situation, assessed the room around him, came back to reality, blue eyes betraying an equal measure of absolute understanding and complete bafflement that Arthur could only hope would be promptly explained

Gwen: What's wrong? You look 10 seconds away from ripping someone's throat out.

Arthur: Fucking Merlin and Morgana were trying to invoke some minor gods again last night. I didn't get an ounce of sleep, thanks to their bloody chanting.

Merlin rewatch -- S3E7: The Castle of Fyrien

Complaining about it is useless I know but I still wish they gave Morgana and Merlin more solid reason to not kill each other, so I won't have to yell at them to kill each other the entirety of s3.

Merlin was because he didn't want Arthur to be sad. Fine. It's still a bit weak, considering letting Morgana roaming around the castle meant she could just stab Arthur or Uther in their dream. She'd tried that.

Morgana though had absolutely zero reason not to kill Merlin. Merlin went into the woods all the time and Arthur wouldn't suspect Morgana anyway unless she literally kill Merlin before in front of him.

Like in this ep, she could easily asked Cenred to kidnap Merlin and use it to lure Arthur out of the castle, instead of the roundabout plan that includes two kidnaps and an extra delivery trip, betting that Gwen wouldn't just bottle it up and leave Elyan to rot. Morgana knew Arthur had gone out by himself for both Merlin and Gwen, but somehow Elyan was a better hostage.

In the firewood collecting scene, Merlin said he didn't know why anyone would hurt their friends, and Morgana retorted "No, you just poison them." Then why are you plotting against Arthur, using Gwen, and not killing Merlin??

Morgana smirked when she saw Gwen was kidnapped. I'm with Merlin. I still don’t know why Morgana was suddenly enjoying her friends' suffering.

I do love that Merlin wasn’t really trying to convince Morgana here. He was making a statement, a threat even. He didn't hide his distaste to Morgana anymore. He was pretty hot that way. Still hope he would just kill her. Or she him. If you were both so annoyed by each other.
