Arthur woke to Merlin thrashing, convulsing through some sort of night terror. He held Merlin close, and tried to keep him from injuring himself through the spasms, but he was entirely uncertain whether that was even the right thing to do.

He noticed, as the minutes went on, that Merlin had been getting increasingly warmer. With growing terror he realized that Merlin was incredibly hot, burning up as if the dreams themselves were causing some sort of incredible magical fever. Arthur couldn't remember the last time he’d felt so powerless. It was a relief then, if a surprise, when Morgana knocked on their door and entered as soon as Arthur was able to stammer some sort of assent.

Morgana walked in, with a confidence and certainty of action Arthur couldn't remember ever seeing in her before. The room seemed to drop in temperature as she crossed in, and, in moments, she brought a hand to Merlin’s chest and one to his face. Arthur could feel the cold radiating off her. Merlin’s temperature crashed drastically as he woke with a start to the cold shock that rippled through from the point of Morgana's contact, and he breathed in sharp and deep like a man just saved from drowning.

“More like the pyre…” Morgana said, responding to the thought Arthur had never voiced.

Merlin panted as he assessed the situation, assessed the room around him, came back to reality, blue eyes betraying an equal measure of absolute understanding and complete bafflement that Arthur could only hope would be promptly explained

So, my brain couldn't really chill the fuck up so it decided to kind of write down it's BBC Merlin hcs and kind of how I think it would be rewritten if the show was allowed to be explicitely queer as fuck and not trying to appear like it would abide to the Arthurian legends. Have fun, or don't:

Merlin rewatch -- S3E2: The Tears of Uther Pendragon 2

Morgana's betrayal should be a big deal in this opener but I had zero interest in it. She became two dimensional villain and she seriously smirked too much. Even aside from the fact that everyone in the room should see, the audience don't need that much reminder that she's evil!

Her sudden thirst for violence was weird. It's not unlike her to be ignorant of others when her well-being was in risk but that's different from actively causing a war. If she wanted to kill Uther she could do it easily in his sleep. Or was she so ignorant that she could only see Uther and not the soldiers and citizens in the castle they were invading?

The underground confrontation, Merlin was talking about women and children dying and Morgana just looked happy. She didn't seem to register Merlin's argument either, just kept talking about herself, about Uther hating magic people and about her being an outsider. She didn't at all mention the grander scale of things. When she said “There is no other way.” It was so weak. I felt like I should feel her tragic villain arc but I got none.

I don’t know why Merlin didn’t kill her off then and there considering he almost let Mordred -- a child who hadn’t done anything -- got caught. Probably the same reason Morgana still didn’t kill Merlin off now she was a merciless villain

(That said, I do enjoy their sparky rivalry very much. Katie looked gorgeous. The lighting and red background was spot on.)
