As you got your muscles stretched, warming up your arms and legs, a few guys arrived. You recognized the Tracksuit mafia for their clothes and hid a laugh. It was funny how they seemed more like characters from a 90's TV show than to criminals.

"Y/N", Kazi called you, he was the one who suggested your name for the job. "This is Maya.", he said as he signed, introducing you to the woman beside him. Before he could continue, Maya interrupted him. 

"Do you know her?", she asked him, eyes not leaving you. 

"We're friends.", he replied.

You kept a straight face, somehow trying to show that you had control over your emotions and were a good pick for the job.

That Wrestling Moment: The Wrestling Turn - Mitch Styles v Bull Lopez (nrwrestling.com)

Today I present to you a match with an abrupt 'turn' when a fighter flips the match sideways and suddenly unleashes that big heel energy.

The Backstory

I discovered nrwrestling years ago.  The guys were hot, the action focused on said hot wrestler bodies, and frankly it was the gayest non-gay wrestling studios out there.  One of the main draws for me was the very scripted and exaggerated styles of wrestling.  The guys would essentially take turns trashing each other instead of fighting which honestly was fine by me.  Especially when we're talking about guys like Madman Mitch Styles...

Say what you will but the guy goes balls to the walls in every match.

The Action

In typical fashion, Mitch comes charging the bull like some wild animal.  I love that the scene can't fully contain Mitch and that the cameraperson struggles with trying to capture everything in frame.

I'm sure the direction was like 'pretend to be overpowered' and Mitch was like 'I'll pretend alright...'

Bull Lopez: That's right. You're not so mad anymore are you?

The Moment 

It's hard to miss where the turn happens.  They do change scenes after all, and our two sweaty fighters reposition things back to where Mitch is the alpha.  It all gives the impression like this was some cosmic fluke with Bull Lopez on top and then the universe righting itself with Mitch dominating in the ring.  

Lopez taking Mitch's lifeless body to the ring ... huge mistake.  Should've left the fight on the mats.

What a tournament! Wrestling has consistently been the most entertaining Olympic combat sport and it was really on display in this year. Some really crazy matches in the freestyle portions. Big dramatics.

Japan has really built up that wrestling program. The women came through and did their thing like they always do. Won 4 of the 6 gold medals available in women's freestyle. Despite having their best wrestler get upset in the first round of 50 kg (Yui Susaki). And then they got two bronze medals in the divisions they did not win. Crazy levels of dominance continue for them. But they also won 4 gold medals in the men's divisions, which is a huge shift for them. They had Kenichiro Fumita and Nao Kusaka win gold in Greco-Roman. Then in men's freestyle, they had Kotaro Kiyooka and Rei Higuchi winning gold as well with Daichi Takatani earning silver but beating Team USA cornerstone Kyle Dake in the process. 9 finalists in 18 weight classes. Just crazy.

As for Team USA, it was really a tale of two halves. The women showed up and showed out. Two gold medals for USA women's team with veteran Sarah Hildebrandt avenging her bronze exit in 2020 to win gold here. Another legend of USA wrestling in Helen Maroulis takes home her third Olympic medal, taking a bronze. Plus the coronation of one of the most dominant women in the sport, 20 year old Amit Elor. We also had 20 year old Kennedy Blades make her final to take home silver. The future for the women's wrestling team is extremely bright. I'm just saying, now is the time to enroll your daughter/niece in wrestling.

For the American men though, heartbreak. For the first time since 1968, the men's team did not take home gold. Spencer Lee came up closest, making the final but leaving with a silver medal. Kyle Dake was upset in the semifinals and was forced to settle for another bronze. 4x NCAA champion Aaron Brooks made a great account of himself. Took home bronze after losing his semifinal bout with literally 5 seconds left on the clock. Kyle Snyder and Zain Rutherford came up short in hunts for bronze. Just a really tough year. Team USA will need to regroup heading into the 2028 Olympics in LA.

There were other really big stories too. The biggest, Mijain Lopez getting his record breaking 5x Olympic gold medal for Cuba and cementing himself as the unquestionable GOAT. Just an insane reign of dominance from the Cuban heavyweight. Then leaving his shoes on the mat to signify retire. Just a perfect way to ride off into the sunset. Geno Petriashvili of Georgia, finally getting that Olympic gold on the third shot. For those that don't remember, he came up short in 2020 losing to Gable Steveson at the very last second. Relative unknown Akhmed Tazhudinov continuing to breakout after showing up and dominating in 2023, this time for Bahrain as Russia is banned from Olympic competition. Hassan Yazdani wrestling with the injury heading into the final at 86 kg. Jersey boy Sebastian Rivera getting a bronze medal for Puerto Rico! Taha Akgül retiring after another bronze medal.

Just an amazing tournament overall.

For anyone who may have tuned into amateur wrestling for the first time this year for the Olympics and find themselves becoming a fan, you can follow some of your favs later this year because the non-Olympic world championships are being held in October!

October 28-31, many of the men and women you saw wrestling for a gold medal will be fighting for the right to call themselves a world champion.

As alluded to previously, this house has a bit of 2021 flair to it! See, despite having downloaded houses with attached garages back in the day, and seeing them everywhere within the community, I never attempted one myself. I'd like to thank Sims YouTuber, Tea Addict, for her tutorial. It was surprisingly easy to do! Can't believe I procrastinated learning this for so long.

With this house in particular, though it is a bit of a common practice across my builds, is that I reused the hallway bathroom floor plans. It's easier that way.

I was a bit of a loss for how to decorate the interior, so I just did my best. Jorge has a workout mat that should be functional, and I figured Isabella would be into dance, so I gave her a small practice area. Overall too I envision that the Lopez's have had a bit of success before coming here, hence their slightly more upscale look compared to the Baker's home, for example.

Dani Page is the daughter of boxing legend Lewis Page and renowned chef Marisol Lopez. Dani and her sister Stevie (an up and coming chef in her own right) were surrounded by sports and food their entire lives. It’s not surprising they would (for the most part) follow in their parents footsteps.

A sports reporter for the last eight years, Dani has become rather disillusioned with the state of modern journalism. It’s given her the drive to pursue a long held dream: writing a book about the history of African Americans and Latinos in boxing. Both her and Jay love animals and the ocean, which is why they’ve settled in Brindleton Bay.

Jay Wright has been a fighter almost his entire life. Growing up in foster care, he was forced to become self reliant at an early age. This may or may not have given him trust issues (he's getting better - well with some people). When Jay stumbled upon a UFC gym at 20, the entire direction of his life changed.

Now considered one of the best young fighters in the business, Jay has cultivated an arrogant persona known as Switchblade. It works well for him in the ring but it’s not his true self. Oh he’s just as sarcastic as his press conferences suggest, but there’s a softer side too. And only a small group of people (including Dani, her family, his trainer Mike and manager Declan) get to see it.

Stevie Page knew at an early age that cooking was her passion. Much like her mom, Stevie is passionate about Mexican cuisine. She spent summers with her sister Dani at her abuela's home outside Merida, soaking up all the food knowledge she could find. Now she is the sous chef at The Pines, a new addition to the Brindleton Bay food scene. In her spare time, she is that crazy cat lady who knits while listening to crime podcasts.

Mike Bridges is one of the most sought after trainers in all of UFC. He has worked with four champions over the course of his five year career. But the only heavyweight class fighter he will ever train is Jay. The two became friends when they were placed in the same group home as pre-teens. They bonded over their shitty childhoods, looking out for each other through thick and thin. They are brothers in everything but blood.

While Mike loves MMA, he didn’t have a taste for competing which led to him training others. He owns three successful training centers including his flagship one in Windenburg.

Declan Murphy is used to dealing with volatile personalities. As a sports agent, he has to balance oftentimes short fuses with business acumen. He met Jay two years ago at a charity event hosted by Dani's parents and the rest was history. Under Declan's management, Jay has become a UFC superstar. Most of it can be attributed to Jay's athletic talent and charisma but no one can deny Murphy's deft hand in it too.
