Batman: Bellicosity

The third Batman story by comic book fan, writer and director Kevin Smith (Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma, Jay and Silent Bob, Tusk, etc) comic book credits as writer (Spider-Man, Daredevil, The Bionic Man, Green Hornet, Green Arrow and many other titles based off his films) and Walt Flanngian artist and actor (actor in Comic Book Men, Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy and Dogma) artist on War of the Undead, Karney, Cryptozoic Man, along with Batman Cacophony and The Widening Gyre.

For more context of how this story takes place. I’m going to talk about the prime villain in question. The mysterious and deadly masked serial killer, Onomatopoeia and the deeds he has done.

SPOILER ALERT FROM THIS POINT ONWARD. IF YOU HAVEN'T READ THESE COMICS YET, GO TO YOUR LOCAL STORE AND PICK THEM UP IF YOU ARE INTERESTED.

Green Arrow: Sounds of Violence

Onomatopoeia appeared in Smith’s run of Green Arrow in the Sounds of Violence story arc. As Queen was adjusting back to his life and reigniting his romance with Dinah Lance aka the Black Canary.

The first on page victim is the female vigilante Virago. Using her grappling gun, swinging from building to building. Onomatopoeia shot her while she was in mid-air. Begging for help, Onomatopoeia executes her.

Later on, he murders the wife of vigilante known as Buckeye. Coming in through a skylight, talking to wife. Believing that she was just in the bathroom. But revealing her strung up and killed. With Onomatopoeia sitting on the toilet waiting for him.

Showing that Onomatopoeia is willing to kill the loved ones of vigilantes as well. Ending Buckeye’s career and his life with a bullet to the head.

His next target lead him to Star City. Where Onomatopoeia goes after the Green Arrow duo of Oliver Queen and his son Connor Hawke. Luring Connor away from his father, Onomatopoeia kills a civilian and corners Connor. Swinging an axe at Hawke, dodge and breaking the weapon until Onomatopoeia fatality wound Connor with a gunshot.

Oliver carries his dying son to the hospital where they perform an emergency surgery on Connor. Having Oliver assist by giving his son a blood transfusion. Meanwhile, Onomatopoeia kills an orderly to infiltrate the hospital and enters the surgical floor where Connor’s surgery was taken. Onomatopoeia was caught off guard by Dinah Lance aka Black Canary who used her Canary Cry against the killer. Giving Oliver Queen enough time to get himself together after the blood transfusion and wound Onomatopoeia. Drawing back on his bow and orders the assailant to open his mouth. Saying if Connor dies, he dies as well. The doctors operation on Connor, as Oliver and Onomatopoeia having a stand off. After the success of the surgery, Oliver fights off the masked killer, leading to on the rooftops. Where Onomatopoeia falls after being ridden fill of arrows.

When Oliver checks on the killer, his body was no where to be found.

Batman: Cacophony

In this three issue limited series. Deadshot broke into Arkham Asylum to kill the Joker. Who ended up being saved by Onomatopoeia. After beating Deadshot, Onomatopoeia helps Joker escape from Arkham. After Batman interrogates Deadshot, he looks up the file he created on Onomatopoeia. Showing his confirmed kills of Virago and Buckeye. As well as his failed attempt to end Green Arrows Oliver Queen and Connor Hawke.

As the Joker rampages throughout Gotham, causing a turf war with the delusional Maxie Zeus. After learning that Maxie was making drugs using Joker Venom. He used the opportunity to lure out both Joker and Onomatopoeia. After keeping Batman on the ropes, Onomatopoeia stabs the Joker and flees the scene after fighting Batman some more. Arriving on the rooftop, Commissioner Jim Gordon pleas with Batman to let the Joker die. Ending the cycle of pain and chaos he has deliver to their lives Killing Jason Todd and paralyzing Barbara Gordon. Batman refusing to go down that path and saves the Joker.

At the end credits of the third issue. We see a man returning home from a trip and greeted by his family. The man enters his den and revels a secret shelf behind his bookshelf. Showing a large trophy case with clear glass cover certain items with plaques engrave on the bases.

As well as pulling out his torn mask. The family man was Onomatopoeia. Each trophy was a masked powerless vigilante his has killed. Trophies include Virago and Buckeye. Along with numerous of other powerless vigilantes such as: Lady Justice, Sky Rider, The Ritz, Brother Black, The Strom (undetermined on full name), and Phantom Jockey.

In the trade paperback edition, additional heroes were shown in Smith’s script, that wasn’t shown on page, such as The Strobe, Brawler, Washingtonian, Bible Belt, The Ringer.

Smith’s script revealed DC Heroes that didn’t make the page, such as Steel (John Henry Irons), Green Arrow I (Oliver Queen), Black Canary (Dinah Lance), and Blue Beetle (Ted Kord).

Revealing on the page that Green Arrow II, Connor Hawke and Batman has cases prepared for next time.

Batman: The Widening Gyre

Taking place a few years after the events from Cacophony. Batman recalls his past adventures with Dick Grayson AKA Nightwing FKA Robin. Flashbacks include adventures with the Teen Titans and The Outsiders. Facing numerous of enemies such as Baron Bedlam, Baron Blitzkrieg, Atomic Skull and the Toyman. Later Batman heard about strange events within the grounds of Arkham Asylum. Poison Ivy spread her vines throughout the asylum grounds and Etrigan the Demon was ravenous and hunger for human flesh, almost beating Batman to death. Until he was saved by a mysterious man with a goat mask. Etrigan went back to normal and Batman limbs out of there in one piece. The following days Bruce Wayne had a blast from the past as his old flame, Silver St. Cloud was back in Gotham as they rekindle their relationship.

At one point, Batman attempts to detain the vicious cannibalistic supervillain Cornelius Stirk. Captured by the killer, Batman was rescued by Tim Drake AKA Robin and apprehended Stirk .

During that time, Batman comes across the mysterious new vigilante Baphomet. Wearing a wooden goat mask and armed with a old style crossbow. Together, the two took on multiple villains such as Black Spider, Calander Man, Crazy Quilt, Mr. Freeze Deadshot and The Joker. Baphomet ends ups casually unmasking in front of Batman.

During that period, Catwoman proceeded to flirt with Batman, wearing old outfits from the Golden Age era and from 1966 tv show to her zip up catsuit with goggles.

While on vacations with Silver, Robin patrolled the rooftops of Gotham with the aid of Baphomet. Shocked on Baphomet revealing his identify to Robin on a rooftop lunch. Batman is tempted to bring him into the Batfamily. Tracking him back home, weeping as he told Batman that he lost his brother to masked crime and wanted to do something.

One day, Batman took Silver St. Cloud to the Fortress of Solitude jump pad takes them to the JLA’s Watchtower. Where he proposals to Silver and she said yes. Later that night, Batman stops Alfred from taking Silver home, yanking her hair thinking she was Dr. Ivo’s android. Saying that he’ll never be normal and they embrace each other.

One night after the engagement, Batman and Baphomet caught Deadshot attacking Catwoman. She reveals that she hired Deadshot to lure Batman out. He reveals about his engagement to Silver St. Cloud. She yells and slaps Batman, saying she humiliated herself by wearing her old costumes to seduce him with and escapes.

On one fateful night, Batman was accompanied by Baphomet to Arkham Asylum to take Calendar Man in. Where Baphomet and the Joker glared at each other, as the Joker smiles in silence. Batman drive the Batmobile drives away with Baphomet in the passenger seat. Leading him to the Batcave, where Batman reveals his identify to Baphomet as Bruce Wayne and introduces Silver St. Cloud to him. Trusting Baphomet with a his most trusted secret. Once Bruce places his utility belt on a table, talking about breakfast. The sound giving a “Ka-Klak” with the same noise being repeated behind him, “Ka-Klak”. Bruce fears the worse and was shocked at what he had witnessed.

The man that Batman trusted and fought along side him Baphomet, donned a different mask. The mask of hero killer Onomatopoeia. His hand covering Silver St. Cloud’s mouth as he slits her throat with a combat knife.

End of The Widening Gyre.

The Future of Bellicosity:

Smith ended the series at a shocking cliffhanger. Leaving all readers in suspense on what would happen next. The series ended in 2010. Kevin Smith teases images of the third part of this “Elseworlds” story.

Knowing the cast that might be included in the next story and mostly likely the final part of this story, Bellicosity. Alfred Pennyworth, James “Jim” Gordon, Richard “Dick” Grayson FKA Robin AKA Nightwing, Timothy “Tim” Drake aka Robin, Barbara “Babs” Gordon FKA Batgirl AKA Oracle. Along with random villains in Batman’s rogues gallery and superhero allies such as Green Arrow (Oliver Queen and Connor Hawke) Black Canary, Superman, Wonder Woman and other JLA members.

Onomatopoeias’ trophy room would be possibly be introduced early on, seeing possible future targets. Not knowing if Nightwing and Robin would be targets on Onomatopoeia’s trophy case. Unconfirmed if Jason Todd would make his return as Red Hood at this point or if the Batgirl mantle was taken up by either Cassandra Cain or Stephanie Brown.

As Batman and the known Batfamily members would investigates Onomatopoeias’ background for any inkling of the truth he told Batman. Maybe using the Malone Crime family name to ransack his home.

There’s also the possibly of Silver St. Cloud succumbing to her injuries in the Batcave and Alfred attempting to subdue Onomatopoeia or getting injured as well.

This would definitely affect Batman's trust issues with other heroes who knows his secret. Making him judge and question everything as he hunts down Onomatopoeia and make him pay.

Making him cross the line and break his oath not to kill.

Only time will tell if Kevin Smith will return to finish what he started all those years ago.

Kevin Smith latest film is The 4:30 movie. With other films such as Moose Jaws, Twilight of the Mallrats and Tusks are planned for the future. Smith also has released two volumes of Quick Stops comics based on his film series being published by Dark Horse Comics.

Walt Flannigan's return to finish what he started with his friend is up in the air. As Flannigan works as a co-host on the podcast Tell'em Steve Dave.

Continuing Marvel Month here's Gwenpool. Now I like the whole look of Gwenpool but I don't quite get her anti-hero name Identity.

... Like with Deadpool it makes sense! Wade named his Antihero alter ego after the "Deadpool" at the Bar he goes to but Gwen Pool all I think about is Gwen Stacy in a Pool 😐 erm there's probably more too It than that. Anyways Gwenpool was a Fun character to both draw and Colour in... I'mma gonna work on some more Marvel Month things this week!

Hey um I know there's a large chance that you most likely won't see this, but I just have to say this. When you had first spoken up about leaving the fandom I was confused as to why because I didn't really realize how dry it was becoming. I just wanna say how utterly correct you were. It has declined even moreee since your leave (not saying you caused it or anything). I sometimes find myself comparing the notes/reblogs from Tom!peter fanfics to the tasm!peter ones and the difference is astounding ( it has me wondering if anyone even knows that Tom!peter exists). It's really sad, the fandom honestly can't be revived, like where is everyone??? I have so many questions about the decline of content in the fandom ( I know the interactions from the readers played a huge part, but I also feel like there may have been other factor that lead to this.) Did everyone in the fandom just grow up or something?? Anyways, I miss you lots and hope you are doing well and your new fandoms are treating you right.

wow this was a doozy to read but in a good way 😭 the delusional main character side of me wants to think my absence had an impact of any kind lmaooo but to be honest, the fandom was already in really bad shape.

lack of reader interaction personally wasn’t that big of a factor for me, i was incredibly lucky and am still grateful for the consistent feedback and love y’all gave me and i still sometimes look through reblogs on my fave fics for writing inspo :”) it meant so much to me and i look back with so much fondness on all the fun times we had with more interactive series, especially break my heart.

not to sound like i’m giving a ted talk, but what drove me away more than anything was the toxicity of the fandom. granted all fandoms have a certain level of it, but this one was really, truly bad in 2021-2022. there’s only so much consistent harassment and suicide bait a girl can overlook while still feeling welcome and excited abt this space 😭 when i look back at that stuff now i’m honestly shocked so many people stayed as long as we did.

rabid shipping culture aside, i personally feel like the mcu spiderman franchise took a big hit in no way home that drove a lot of ppl away. obviously they couldn’t keep going forever with a 30 year old guy playing a 19 year old, but their creative decisions in nwh are questionable at best to me. the end of mcu peter’s story was so final and abrupt that, combined with how flip-floppy the writers were abt a follow-up trilogy with new characters and a time jump, didn’t leave much room for fanfic to carry on. they quite literally erased mcu peter as a character and individual from the mcu itself lmao it would be pretty hard for people to write copious fanfics about a guy who has no one bc no one knows who he is and his family is dead as hell.

that being said, i really am sorry you feel like it’s difficult to enjoy and share your passion in this space. that feeling sucks and i hope that, if you write fanfic, the lack of engagement and content doesn’t stop you from being creative and sharing what you wanna share. trends and fandoms come and go in waves, you never know when a piece of media or an actor has a revival in the general public. i don’t know what roles tom has going on but if you feel inspired to engage in them when the time comes, i’m sure there will be ppl there to interact. you’re never too ‘grown up’ to enjoy fandom, especially not one as iconic and timeless as spider-man in all variations. if there’s a character, there’s ppl out there creating art for them.

27/07/2024: The Masked Parkour runner and Phryge.

Has anyone here been watching the Paris Olympic games? It doesn't seem like 5 minutes since we had the last one in 2022. The opening ceremony was a bit odd, and very "disjointed " and the Ceremony took place all over Paris and not within a Stadium.

But there were a couple of characters that stick out during the Opening ceremony, one of them Included this Masked Parkour runner, Running over rooftops and leaping into other Buildings with the Olympic torch in hand. Although not for too long as It started to rain in Paris.

I also drew a Phryge the Olympic mascot running along side the Masked Man. And If you're trying to work out what they are, then I shall tell you! The Phryge is based upon a Phrygian caps, and I've only just found out there was some controversy with the Phryge as some people thought they were based on the Female Clitoris 😐.... Get your Mind out the Gutters people come on...

The largest cultural impact this years Olympics will have is the introduction of a new tumblr sexyman

Steph's Year of Recovery

So! Danny noticed that a new face had made it's way into town. Two new faces actually, an older lady known as Dr Leslie, and a girl about his age called Steph.

He first met them when he was at the hospital for one of his parents. They had stood too close to an explosion again, and he met them while he was in the waiting Area.

Dr Leslie was a strict but obviously caring older woman, who seemed to be the one taking care of Steph as a kind of maternal figure, or maybe more like an Aunt. She greeted him simply and then walked away to talk with the Secretary, leaving him to talk to Steph.

Steph was a blond girl in a Wheelchair, and he could see bandages piking out of her clothes as he talked to her. She explained that she had been in an Accident a few weeks ago that left her wheelchair bound for a while, and that she had come to Amity for their surprisingly good Medical Centers.

He and Steph got along really well, and by the end of it he asked her for her Number so they could continue talking later. They stayed in touch, and when she was finally permitted to leave the Hospital, he introduced her to his friends. They all got along like a House on Fire, both figuratively and in one memorable case very literally (Vlad had pissed them off okay!)

Eventually Steph recovered enough that she moved from a Wheelchair to Crutches, and their shenanigans got even more chaotic (Vlad hadn't even pissed them off, this time was just for fun)

The only thing Danny could complain about was the fact that Steph was hiding something from them.

She said that she had been in an Accident a while ago, which was why they had come to Amity in the first place. But Danny knew it was more than that.

He could sense lingering traces of Death coming from her after all.

...

Steph honestly loved her current life.

Sure she had lost everything, her home, her health, her friends, her life, but she had gained new things too! Like Danny and the Gang! They were honestly some of the best friends she had ever had, and for some reason they just clicked with her instantly.

Danny was interesting and funny, Sam was vegan and a badass, Tucker was smart and witty, they all fit with her personality perfectly! It almost felt like she bad been friends with them for years. (She ignored the way her heart skipped a beat when she saw them)

But she still couldn't shake the sense that they were hiding something from her.

She knew it had something to do with the Ghost Problem in the town. And wasn't that a kicker, there was a whole Supernatural Ghost Outbreak in this Town and nobody knew about it. Dr Leslie had said that Amity was off the map enough to hide from Bruce, but she hadn't mentioned it was hidden from the Justice League itself!

Danny, Sam, and Tucker definitely knew more about it than they let on however. Whenever a Ghost Attack would happen, at least one of them would rush off with some practiced excuse and return after the Ghost Attack was over all dirty. She could guess what was going on, and she really didn't like it.

(This had killed her, she had died doing what they were doing, she didn't want to lose them)

Eventually she had to confront them, coincidentally on the same day they decided to confront her.

"Are you Vigilantes?" / "Did you die?"

"..."

"What?" / "What?"

"I work alone, Superman," Bruce insisted, his frown deepening because he just knew Clark was right behind him with his brow quirked.

"That's rich coming from you," Clark pointed towards the makeshift kitchen area Bruce had built because his wife insisted on having one so she could make something when she came around. That kitchen area currently occupied by none other than Mrs. Wayne herself.

And Dick.

And Jason... and Tim and Damian.

They were currently arguing about whether they wanted pancakes or waffles before they go out. Damian was standing on the countertop, pointing his sheathed sword at Tim.

"It would be easier for mother to make waffles," Damian hissed at the older boy, a scowl that resembled Bruce's marring his face.

"You know what, you are right," Tim raised his hands, "but we should pair it with chicken, maybe we should cut open bat-chicken and fry it."

The smug look on Damian's face turned into a pure horror as he imagined his beloved chicken—the one he had gotten just two nights ago—on a platter, fried. "Mother! Father! Did you hear what he said!?"

Mrs. Wayne gave her son a noncommittal hum as she flipped the pancake she was cooking—she was making both waffles and pancakes, while Bruce grunted quietly, the parents were not taking sides.

Jason laughed so hard he fell off the stool, continuing to lay on the floor, clutching his sides. "I can see the light," he gasped, trying to get some oxygen into his lungs between laughter.

"Don't go towards it!" Dick nudged his 'dying' brother with his foot.

Clark looked amused, "you brought the whole army here, we don't need Justice League anymore," he added with a chuckle.

"They wanted to come," Bruce responded, turning around so he could take a look at his family. The scowl he had softened just a little without him knowing.

"If you guys are all here, then who's protecting Gotham?" Diana came around the corner, looking majestic as usual, taking her spot beside Mrs. Wayne so she could learn a thing or two.

Bruce had a little smirk on his face, "Alfred."
