Sacrifices in TWP (we have to prepared)
(I don’t hate (most of) these characters they are just possibilities to be prepared)
Fairchild: Jocelyn (she’s a grandma)
Lightwood: Maryse (the Lightwood curse—only possible lightwood)
Rosales: Diego (look I love him,, but their is the Inquisitor curse and if he is inquisitor…)
Herondale: Janus (ONLY JANUS—tho maybe Thule!Kit also if he exists idk 😭)
Mendoza: Beatriz (she’s simon’s friend — rip george and jordan,, also she lives in New York so she’s closer to him now)
Dearborn: ZARA (SEEYA YOU WON’T BE MISSED—and Julian Blackthorn doesn’t do mercy a second time)
Villalobos: Manuel (also won’t be missed)
The Seelie Queen (this one feels inevitable tbh with Ash and Kit and all)
Nene (she’s not very relevant, but it would still be sad for Mark and Helen— I could see her dying to protect Kit or Ash as well possibly)
Thule!Raphael (I’m sorry, I can just see him being like eww no I would never die for Magnus and then dying for Magnus or Lily a second time 😭)
Catarina Loss (I could also see her dying to protect Kit, bc of his connection to Roland Herondale)
Ashdown: Cameron (if he died for Thule!Livvy for some reason I would actually perish)
Ghost!Livvy: (I don’t think we will lose another Blackthorn—we can’t,, but I don’t think Ghost!Livvy is gonna stick around)
Adaon (idk I feel like he might be assigned to protect Ash or smth and die in a fight or smth)
Thule!Simon (if he’s alive and some super powerful Vampire or smth)
Pedroso: Marina (Thais’ mom,, ngl feels like everyone who still has a mom in TWP won’t by the end of it 😭—but I will stay hopeful for Thais’ mom at least)

Obviously the correct answer is that- being Consul- Alec is the one /officiating/ the wedding.
What I love about the suggenes is that it can literally be anyone: a parent, sibling, parabatai, friend, whoever you want.
Since Alec’s first act as Consul was to make Shadowhunter/Downworlder weddings fully legal, i think is second act would be to make it legal for Downworlders to be a Shadowhunters suggenes.
With that said! I thought long and hard about who the suggenes would be at the clace/sizzy double wedding, and my thoughts are as follows:
Clary: Jocelyn. Jocelyn was super protective of Clary her entire life, and the number one critic of Clary’s decision to join the shadowhunters as well as her relationship with Jace. Choosing Jocelyn would be a really significant way to show the evolution of their mother/daughter relationship, relationship to the shadow world, and Jocelyn’s approval of Jace as someone who loves and protects Clary just as much as she does.
Jace: Maryse. If Jace can’t pick his parabatai or his sister, he’s picking the only parent he has left. Nuff said. (But if he didn’t pick Maryse, i think he’d go with Luke. Luke became a supportive father-figure to Jace over the years and they have the parallels of their forbidden love for Fairchild women that ended up working out. I also love the symmetry of having a married couple supporting newlyweds as their suggenes.)
Simon: Luke! Simon lost his dad at a young age and Luke stepped in to fill that role just as much for Simon as he did for Clary and eventually Jace. He was also Simon’s Downworld mentor after getting Turned. (However, if Jace were to pick Luke over Maryse, i think Maia would be Simon’s next choice since she’s his oldest Downworlder friend.)
Izzy: Magnus. I also thought about Maryse for Izzy, being her last remaining parent (bc wouldn’t it be fitting for Maryse to be suggenes while her kid marries a former Downworlder across from another Downworlder suggenes (esp if Simon chose Luke)?), but i do think Magnus is a better fit. (I do have some thoughts on why it /wouldn’t/ be Maryse, but that’s another post). If Izzy can’t use either of her brothers or her best friend (Clary), I genuinely think she would choose her brother-in-law. She was the biggest supporter of Alec and Magnus’s relationship, and now Magnus gets to support her and Simon! And as another one of Simon’s friends/mentors, i think Magnus would be honored to be part of his wedding to Izzy. As we all know, there’s nothing Magnus wouldn’t do for this crazy, wonderful family.
I do think if clace and sizzy got married separately, Alec would be the obvious choice to be his siblings’ suggenes. But for a double wedding, he would never pick between the two. Plus, as the officiant, he would get to watch the smiling faces of so many people he loves all at once, and see the effects of the Downworlder-Shadowhunter Alliance :)
the possibility of clace & sizzy having a double wedding is so funny to me because how would that even work. like you all need suggenes and you do not have that many close friends 😭 it can't all be Alec

Circle Member of the Week: Maryse Trueblood
“There were only ever two kinds of people in the world for Valentine. Those who were for the Circle and those who were against it. The latter were enemies, and the former were weapons in his arsenal. I saw him try to turn each of his friends, even his own wife, into a weapon for the Cause — and you want me to believe he wouldn’t have done the same with his own son? I knew him better than that.” - City of Ashes
Not sure if I’ll get to post one of these next week but still feel free to comment who you want to see next! I’m thinking Jocelyn in less y’all have a different idea.

OKAY Maryse /Jocelyn and the first one on the stab wound thingy that Elle posted in discord
based on this post
Jocelyn thrust her seraph blade up with a grunt, missing Valentine’s throat by mere inches. He grabbed her arm and held it high, his own blade hovering in the air, ready for the final blow. Jocelyn shut her eyes and inhaled deeply. She should have known this was how it would end. With the person she thought was the love of her life, ready to plunge his blade into her heart. The heart that should belong to him, but no longer did. She opened her eyes to see Luke running in her direction, too far away to stop the inevitable. She had accepted her death, for the greater good, for the safety of her children, for the survival of her people.
Then the pressure around her wrist disappeared and she felt herself fall to the ground. Her eyes shot open as she waited for the pain, but it never came. She pushed to her knees facing Luke as her hands searched her body for the seraph blade. She found nothing as she glanced up to see Luke, his feet frozen to the ground, panic and confusion on his face. Jocelyn turned with her blade in her hand, ready to fight the next battle behind her.
Instead, she saw Valentine on the ground, seraph blade nowhere to be seen and Maryse standing unsteadily on her feet before her. Maryse had a soft smile on her face, but Jocelyn knew something was wrong by the cloudiness in her eyes. She stood slowly as her eyes searched Maryse’s body.
Maryse’s hands were covered in blood, that was the first thing Jocelyn noticed. The second was the seraph blade protruding from her side. Jocelyn went to step forward, her hands out like she was approaching a predator and she yelled as Maryse pulled the blade from her skin. She flinched as she did it, dropping the blade to the ground, her hand shaking as she pushed her palm into the wound.
“Maryse…” Jocelyn whispered. She heard Luke and Robert yelling her name, but Maryse didn’t seem to notice. Her eyes connected with Jocelyn’s as her knees wobbled and she fell to the ground. Jocelyn surged forward and kneeled beside her just in time to catch her as she leaned to the side. “Why would you do that?” Jocelyn whispered as she pushed Maryse’s hair from her face. Maryse let out a weak laugh that was quickly followed by coughing. Jocelyn held her closer and grabbed for her stele, cursing to herself when it wasn’t in her holster.
“I didn’t follow Valentine because I believed in him,” Maryse started. Her voice was weak and her breath was coming out in harsh pants. Jocelyn held her closer as Luke appeared beside them, running his stele over the iratze. The rune flickered with every brush and Jocelyn could hear Luke cursing to himself. Maryse raised a trembling hand to Jocelyn’s face and rested it there, her thumb wiping at a tear Jocelyn didn’t realize had fallen. “I followed Valentine because I believe in you.” The last words erupted Maryse into a cough and Jocelyn pressed her hand tighter to the wound on her side.
“You’re not dying here, for me,” Jocelyn whispered as she pressed their foreheads together. Maryse’s arm fell to the ground and her skin paled even further. Jocelyn stroked at her face, wiping the blood and sweat that coated it. “You can’t die, Maryse,” Jocelyn pleaded.
“I couldn’t think of a better way to die, for the woman I love,” Maryse whispered and Jocelyn could see her eyes fading. She pushed her fingers through Maryse’s hair and held tight, propping her head up as blood dripped from her mouth.
“You can’t say something like that and then die on me, Maryse.” Maryse’s eyes closed and opened slowly, like every blink was painful and Jocelyn pressed a gentle kiss to her forehead to try and ease the pain. She heard a shout from Luke and her eyes darted to the iratze on Maryse’s side just in time to see it glow. Jocelyn sighed in relief as Maryse’s eyes cleared just a little.
“Jocelyn, I–” Maryse started. Jocelyn shook her head and placed a finger over Maryse’s lips.
“I need you to focus on healing so that I can tell you I love you, too, without the threat of death looming over us, okay?” Maryse let out a soft breath before her eyes shut and she went limp in Jocelyn’s arms. Jocelyn held her tightly as Luke rested a comforting hand on her shoulder.
“It’s over, Joc. It’s going to be okay,” Luke reassured as his other hand wiped the blood from Maryse’s pale cheek. Jocelyn glanced over at her husband lying dead in the grass, to Luke comforting her and Maryse with just a simple touch, and down to Maryse. She pressed a kiss to Maryse’s cheek and rested her forehead on her temple and finally accepted that everything was going to be okay.

I am activist (yes, I do 46837383 of things, I am Barbie cause I have ADHD) on issues related to sects..
I have no papers on hand right now, but, one of the most common things that leaders of coercive groups do is maintain sexual relations with their members to have physical, psychological and social power over them. It would not be strange for Valentine to be sexually with all the people he wanted in the group, especially the least easy to subdue psychologically (Maryse, Jocelyn, even Michael maybe) because im that way he could manipulate them by telling them that everyone would know X or Y thing.
The “Valentine is Izzy’s father” theories are so delicious to me idk. Like I know Cassie probably just didn’t do the punnet square and the brown eyed girl having two blue eyed parents probably doesn’t mean anything BUT what if it did.
Robert and Mayrse and their cringefail lavender marriage are so messy and I think she deserves to have an affair too. It’s the devotion to the cause! It’s the charismatic leader and his most trusted general! It’s the betrayal when it matters most!
What is really selling me on this reread is Luke finding out that Mayrse sold Valentine out to the Clave and responding “Hell hath no fury” like brother WHAT are you implying (we know what)

i must say i was really disappointed when in cofa we learn that jocelyn doesn’t really like jace. i mean i think it kinda makes sense bc we also know luke and jocelyn didn’t exactly like stephen and how she is scared jace may be like valentine, but jace has literally been saving clary from certain death since the day he found her when she was bitten by that demon. he was there for her through everything and risked his life for her with zero second thoughts. if i was jocelyn i would have at least felt thankful that he was there for her daughter when she couldn’t, i mean i am sure clary and luke told her about what jace has done for them. we deserve some jocelyn and jace content, especially them bonding and maybe her talking to him about stephen and celine since she knew both and went to the academy with stephen. also let’s not forget jocelyn used to bring jonathan at the lightwood’s house to play with alec and spend time with maryse, and sometimes celine would join them while she was pregnant of jace. i meannn she should totally feel some kind of affection for jace.

Newest installment in my “Shadowhunters: Parenthood Edition” stories. The rest can be found on AO3 HERE!!!
Happy Birthday Reesa!
Jace woke up earlier than usual. He stretched and immediately turned his head to check on Clary, as he always did when he awakened. She was still asleep, red hair fanned out on her pillow and the quietest of snores coming from her mouth. Jace grinned. She never believed him when he said she snored, but honestly, he found it adorable, so he didn’t complain that much. He pressed a soft kiss to her forehead, lingering for a moment to breathe her in. He smiled and gave her one more quick, light kiss.
Jace slid quietly from the bed and went about his morning routine of shaving and dressing. As he sat to put his socks and boots on, he heard her. She was humming the lullaby Jace had played her last night before bed, as he did every night. The song his Mom had sang to him and his siblings when they were young. With a smile, Jace went into the nursery and found his daughter standing in her crib, the morning sun slowly turning the room a warm gold. Reesa’s strawberry blond curls were wild from her night’s sleep and stood out like a cloud around her head. She had a thumb in her mouth and was still humming their song, but broke into a smile when she saw Jace.
“Hi Dada!” She waved her hand excitedly as if they were seeing each other again after a long journey. Jace lifted her from the crib, kissing each cheek. She laughed and patted his face.
“How is my girl?” Jace said as he proceeded to change her sleeper. He picked out one of the bright, colorful rompers Magnus and Clary kept her closet filled with and started dressing her. She wiggled as she waited on him to finish the snaps and buttons. “Guess what Reesa?”
The little girl blinked at him in response, as he tried to tame her curls a little with the tiny hair clips Clary bought. “Today is your first birthday. It is a big day. You’ve been here with Mama and Daddy a whole year. You are one.” He surveyed his work. Dang, he was getting good at this hair thing.
“I’m one.” Reesa said, watching as he proceeded to put her shoes on. He let her fasten the Velcro tabs herself. “All done!” She held her hands out.
“Excellent work.” Jace complimented her, lifting her down off the changing table and stood her on the floor.
“Where Mama?” Reesa asked as Jace careful put her favorite old stele of his in the pocket of her romper.
“Mama is sleeping. It’s just you and me this morning.” Jace answered her. “Shall we have breakfast?” He held out his hand. She slipped a tiny soft hand into his callused, scarred one and Jace felt his heart swell again with joy over having this little girl in his life.
“Mama sleeping.” Reesa said. “Ssssh.” She twisted her face into a comical shush and pressed a finger to her lips. Jace grinned at her.
“Exactly.”
———
There were only a handful of people in the dining hall this early, as it was barely 5 o’clock. Jace liked it this way though. Mostly those present were coming in late off of patrol, bleary eyed and exhausted. But despite that, each one perked up a little at the sight of the toddler in her bright pink romper, with the butterfly clips in her hair. She always waved at everyone as she and Jace moved through to find a table to sit at.
Reesa refused a high chair on the grounds she was “nota baby”, instead kneeling in the chair next to Jace, happily eating her bacon. Jace nursed his cup of coffee and just watched her. He couldn’t believe it had been a year since she arrived. He still remembered it, he had never been so scared and happy. And now look at her. One year old.
He pushed away the ever present worry about her “Angel gifts” as the family called them. She was just one, but she functioned more like a 2yo. She was quick and smart, speaking in small sentences already. She could jump and run faster than your average child, quick with all her reflexes and motor skills too. She was also taller than average. Aside from all this and a predilection for being found constantly leaping off of the top of Jace’s baby grand and landing perfectly every time, she had yet to exhibit any other manifestations of her pure Angel blood inheritance. Jace still wondered if she would have any of Clary’s gifts. Tessa often hinted that there would be more to Reesa than she had shown them so far.
“More please.” A tiny voice cut into Jace’s thoughts. Reesa had finished her bacon and eggs and was looking expectantly at Jace. “More bacon.”
“Alright, but just two more, ok?” Jace answered her, raising up from his chair.
“Okey doke,” she said, picking her orange juice up with both hands. He chuckled.
———
Clary found them in the office after she had woken and had her own breakfast. Jace at his desk and Reesa on his lap, as usual. He was flicking through night patrol reports on his tablet and Reesa was concentrating on drawing runes on a notepad, her tiny tongue stuck out in concentration.
“Hi Mama!” Reesa cried, wiggling off of Jace’s knee to run around the desk and into Clary’s arms.
“Hi, my baby,” Clary kissed her on the cheek and then blew a raspberry against the soft skin. Reesa giggled. “Happy Birthday!”
“I’m one!” Reesa held up one finger proudly.
“Yes, you are! And we are going to have a party for you,” Clary kissed the outstretched index finger.
“A party?” Reesa crinkled her forehead in confusion.
“A party?” Jace made the same face.
Clary smiled at the resemblance. “Uncle Magnus is planning a party for your birthday. With cake!”
The one year old’s eye lit up. “CAKE!” She yelled, wiggling to be put down so she could run around her mother in a happy gallop while continuing to yell about cake.
“It will be at 5 this evening,” Clary told Jace over Reesa’s yells. “I already asked Underhill to cover your patrol so the whole family can be there.” Jace frowned a little. He hated to ask favors of the other Shadowhunters, even if he was the Co-Head of the Institute. Clary walked around the desk and sat on the arm of his chair. “It’s for Reesa’s birthday. Underhill was happy to do it. And you can cover his next patrol to make up for it, he said.”
Jace’s brow smoothed out. “Well, that does seems more fair.” Clary kissed his cheek and then leaned against him as they watched their daughter dance happily around the room.
———
“I think Magnus made the apartment bigger to fit everyone,” Alec whispered to Jace as they walked into the living room from the kitchen.
“You think? Because I don’t remember there being two bathrooms in the hallway,” Jace pointed out. “Or that hatrack. Tell me that’s not anyone we know, by the way.”
“Dang it, you’re right,” Alec agreed, ignoring the query about the hatrack and sipping from his plastic cup. He made a face. “What is this?”
“Something called punch,” Jace eyed his own pink drink warily. He didn’t like pink drinks in general . “Jocelyn insisted it is what mundanes drink at birthday parties.”
“By the Angel, why?” Alec muttered, quickly dumping the rest of the drink in the ficus behind him (that he was pretty sure hadn’t been there this morning).
“No idea,” Jace said, tossing back the last dredges in his cup and swallowing.
“You still drank it?”
Jace raised an eyebrow. “Have you ever known me to reject food or drink?”
“Fair enough,” Alec said.
Clary came over with two bottles in hand. “Here. Have some water. That punch is as gosh-awful as it was when I was kid.” The two men gratefully accepted the drinks.
A crash came from the kids’ room. The parents all turned, waiting for any cries of distress.
“Everything’s fine!”shouted Rafe. Alec raised an eyebrow.
“I think I’ll check anyway,” he shook his head and went down the now extra long hall to his sons’ room where Rafe and Max were “fighting demins”, according to Max.
Clary slid her arms around Jace’s waist and he dropped a kiss on the top of her head. They looked around the room.
Jocelyn, Kadir, and Maryse were chatting in the corner, the every present dried paint visible on the back of Jocelyn’s hand and around her nails as she made a gesture in the air. Maryse nodded to whatever was being said and politely sipped from her cup, making no face but Jace knew his mother enough to see in her eyes what she thought of “punch”. He bit his lip to keep from smiling. Kadir was very focused on Jocelyn’s story, his own hands suspiciously empty.
Luke and Simon bookended the sofa, a 4-month pregnant Isabelle with the start of a baby bump sitting between them. All three were discussing a new weapon the Iron Sisters had sent to the Institute this week. Simon was particularly excited, waving his hands about. Isabelle rubbed her bump and watched him in amusement.
Tess and Jem were sitting on the loveseat, Reesa sitting on Tessa’s lap and talking with them. She was making some of the same gestures with her hands that Jocelyn was making and Tessa nodded encouragingly at her. Mina was sitting in the floor, leaning against her father’s legs with a surprisingly content Chairman Meow on her lap, bedazzling his fur with sparks of magic from her fingers.
Magnus was busily waltzing around the dining room, flashes of magic visible as he finished placing copious amounts of purple, pink, and blue streamers and balloons around a banner that said, “Happy Birthday Baby Biscuit”. Alec had gently pointed out no one else called Reesa that but Magnus had merely kissed him firmly and said, “I make the party rules.” Alec had said nothing more and left him to his decorating.
“You know,” Jace mused. “I never had family around for birthdays until I my 11th. And that wasn’t even my birthday, as we now know. And really by the time you get your first rune, it’s downplayed. Shadowhunters don’t do parties much. Just a cake if everyone is around. But the Institute was always empty. And of course I didn’t have anyone else...before. I got a gift or a wish as you know, but it wasn’t the same as this. I like this. Except maybe the punch.”
“I do too. I like birthdays. I had my first kiss on my 16th birthday, you know,” Clary gave him a saucy grin. Jace shot her a look that made her stomach flip. He leaned down to whisper in her ear.
“You better stop, Mrs. Herondale. I’m not a well-behaved man.” Clary giggled.
“Alright you two, stop it,” Alec rolled his eyes at them, coming down the hall with his son’s following behind him like baby ducks, each carrying a fake weapon of some sort, the two boys in their miniature gear jackets that they played in. Both their cheeks were red from their “battle” but they looked pleased with themselves.
“And the crash?” Clary asked.
“Bookshelf. Magnus will have to sort it,” Alec shook his head. Rafe and Max looked properly contrite, although Clary knew them enough to know they weren’t really. She winked at them.
“Time for cake!” Magnus announced and everyone gathered in the dining room. Reesa was given the seat of honor and a rounding chorus of “Happy Birthday” was sang. She sang along, much to everyone’s amusement.
She carefully blew out her candle, and Max relit it so he could blow it out too. Reesa found this hilarious, so Max and Mina kept relighting it until everyone had blown out the candle and Magnus finally had to remove the stub from the cake before a second round of candle blowing was started.
The cake was, of course, delicious. Magnus hinted strongly that it had came from France.
“I left money in the till,” He hastened to add before anyone said anything. “But our babies have to have the best cake.”
Clary watched as Reesa picked up her plate and licked the frosting off. “I think you chose well,” she said. Jocelyn shook her head in amusement and cleaned the chocolate off of Reesa’s nose and eyebrows.
“Bapak! Present time! Present time!” Max was bouncing in excitement as Rafe carried in the gift.
Magnus placed the brightly wrapped present in front of a wide-eyes Reesa who looked at him expectantly. “Magic?” She asked.
With a smile, Magnus snapped his fingers and the paper and ribbon unfurled to reveal a tiny gear jacket of her own. Reesa squealed. “On! Now!” She demanded.
Clary complied, slipping it over her bright pink romper and zipping it up. Reesa rubbed her hands over the jacket in amazement. Jace squatted next to her chair and adjusted the collar.
“Can you say thank you to everyone?” He prompted her gently.
“Thank you Unca Alec and Unca Magnus,” she whispered, still in awe. “And Nana and Papa and Gran’ma and Kad and Unca Simon and Ant Izzy and Max and Rafe and Jem and Nonna Tessa and Mina.” The adult all smiled as the little girl listed her whole family.
Alec smiled and knelt next to Jace. “Look,” he showed the little girl the pocket for her stele, tucking it in for her.
“You’re ready to fight now, Baby Biscuit,” Magnus said.
Max and Rafe bounced around her. “Yeah, we are all ready now!”
“Me too,” Mina cried, sending golden sparks through the air as she jumped down to dance with the boys.
“Well then, how about you all go train outside,” Magnus directed, snapping his fingers to cover every surface of the spacious balcony with large soft training mats, a low balance beam, and wooden swords. Reesa gave a suspiciously high jump off her chair and landed next to Rafe. He grabbed her hand and the four children ran outside.
———
The grownups sat down to enjoy decent, less sugary food (courtesy of Simon’s sister Rebecca’s restaurant, which Magnus used as often as he could) and watch the kids through the large windows. The punch had mysteriously disappeared (Jace wasn’t going to point fingers, but he suspected his mother had instigated a punch-removal directive to Kadir), so Magnus produced “adult drinks”.
Jace stood next to the window, watching the children play. Reesa was observing Rafe, who was showing Mina how to balance on the balance beam while holding her hand. When they were done, Reesa tried too, but refused assistance. She managed to walk it as easily as if she were on the ground and even did a large jump at the end.
“She’s good.” Jem had come up beside him, his eyes on his daughter who was comparing magic colors with Max. They were shooting little sparks in the air, and Reesa was laughing as they landed on her hair and arms.
“She is,” Jace said, a mix of pride and worry in his voice.
“Having a child with a gift you can’t exactly understand, it’s not easy,” Jem admitted. Jace looked at him, realizing Jem was a former Shadowhunter, with a half shadowhunter-half warlock wife and a child with an odd mix of warlock and shadowhunter blood.
“I don’t care about her gifts so much anymore, I just want her to be happy,” Jace said quietly. “I wasn’t, as a child. I want her to be more than just her gifts.”
“I remember you,” Jem mused. “You were the quietest, most composed, well-trained, and polite 10 year old I had ever met.”
“The ship. The attack by the werewolves on that ship the night I came to live with the Lightwoods.” Jace looked surprised. “I had forgotten, that was the first time we met, wasn’t it? I used your staff. The one with WH carved on it.”
“Yes. Your gifts were very visible that day, I just didn’t see them clearly. I’m sorry you weren’t happy, though.”
“I was later. I found part of my happiness with the Lightwoods. And the rest,” Jace’s eyes searched out Clary, laughing with Tessa and her mother near the fireplace. “The rest with Clary. And now with Reesa.”
“I understand,” Jem replied. And he did. He knew the fulfillment of happiness that came with love. With Will, with Tessa, with Mina and Kit. He saw that same completion in Jace now, what had been missing all those years ago when he had been the solemn and determined child with those golden eyes and that Herondale recklessness that had reminded Jem of Will even then.
The two men watched as Mina and Reesa joined hands to run away from Max and for a moment, it seemed like Reesa’s eyes glimmered and Mina’s fingers sparked a brighter gold and they seemed to be moving faster than they should have been. He blinked and it was gone. Jace’s brow was slightly furrowed , as if he had seen something as well.
“I think...those two may be trouble together,” Jem said.
“A Herondale and a Carstairs? Definitely. I’ve heard the stories from Tessa.” Jace laughed and Jem joined him.
“Oh yes. Will and I.” Jem smiled at the memories. “Will and Tessa’s daughter Lucie, her parabatai was also a Carstairs. Their son’s was a Fairchild.”
“Herondales, Carstairs, Lightwoods, and Fairchilds. Chaos and mayhem since the beginning, is what you’re saying?” Jace queried.
“Yes,” Jem confirmed. The two men stood in silence for a moment, watching the children play.
“Mundanes have gifted children too, you know.” Jem murmured. “But I think it means they are better at things like math and reading.” Jace looked bemused at this. Reesa turned and saw him watching her. She waved. He waved back.
“I can’t wait to see what they do,” Jace said softly. Jem nodded in agreement.
“I think,” Jem paused as Reesa and Mina joined hands again, their black and golden-red heads bent together to listen to Rafe and Max. “I think they’ll change the world.”

I heard “The Ending” by Wafia feat. Finneas (the song that played when Maia found Jordan dead from the beach in 3x20) from beginning to the end for the first time tonight and it made me really emotional. So I wanted to ask you... what are your favorite songs from the “Shadowhunters”-soundtrack?

Shadowhunters Short Story #49. Clace baby.
It is a warm June morning in 2015 when Jace is awoken from his dreams by the sensation of being shaken.
Jace groans and bats the hand on his shoulder away, burying his face further into the pillow. Soon he wont be able to sleep in like this, these sleepy, relaxed mornings with Clary will soon be replaced by early morning feeds and diaper changes. Clary is 9 months pregnant with their first child and is due any day now, and though they are both beyond excited to meet their baby, they are also extremely nervous, they have so little experience with children, Jace had helped out a bit with Max when he had first gone to live with the Lightwoods, but not much, and Clary had grown up as an only child with no aunts, uncles, etc. They’ve both helped out with Baby Max quiet a bit but they still feel extremely nervous about being parents.
“Jace, Jace wake up!” Clary hisses, shaking her husband again, harder this time.
“What’s up Clary?” Jace asks in a tired tone, turning to face his wife.
“I think I just had a contraction.” Clary quietly says. Jace’s eyes widen and he scrambles to sit up.
“Should I get the midwife? Do we have time to get the midwife? By the angel, am I going to have to deliver the baby?!” He says in a panicked tone.
Clary laughs lightly and places her hand on his arm.
“Jace calm down, I don’t know if it even was a real contraction, it might have been fake. Grab my phone and I’ll time them.” Clary calmly says.
Half an hour later Clary has had 3 more contractions, each 15 minutes apart, the pain staying on the same level each time.
“Should I get the midwife now?” Jace tentatively asks, once Clary’s latest contraction has passed. Most Shadowhunters have their babies at home with the assistance of a private midwife and/or The Silent Brothers, and Clary has chosen to also give birth at home, however she and Jace have agreed that they will only summon The Silent Brothers if absolutely necessary, and just have their midwife deliver the baby.
“Yeah.. yeah that might be a good idea.” Clary says in a breathless tone, feeling worn and exhausted after the last contraction.
“Do you want me to call your mom too? Or anyone else?” Jace asks, secretly longing for his own mother to come and reassure him that everything will be okay.
“No not yet, in fact don’t tell anyone I’m in labor, as much as I love our family, I know they’ll all rush over here and I don’t want that, we can send them pictures of the baby when he’s born, and they can come visit in a few days.” Clary says in a tired tone, in no mood for visitors, not even her parents.
________________________________________________________________
**5 hours later**
It has been 5 hours now, since Clary woke up with intense pains in her lower stomach, her labor had been fairly short but intense and only a few moments ago, Clary gave birth to her baby, comfortable and relaxed in her and Jace’s bed.
Before the midwife can get near the baby to wash him down and wrap him up, Clary reaches down to the bottom of the bed and scoops her baby up into her arms and cradles him to her chest, her heart swelling with a love and a joy greater than she had ever felt before. Holding her son with Jace at her side, Clary feels a beautiful, calm sense of peace settle over her.
“Oh Jace look at him, he’s so perfect.” Clary quietly says, gazing at her son in awe. The baby is a perfect mixture of his parents, with a few tufts of golden blonde hair, just like Jace’s, Clary’s bone structure and mouth, Jace’s eye shape and nose shape and- as it would later turn out- beautiful big green eyes just like his mother and grandmother.
“Yes he is, just like your dad, huh Stephen?” Jace softly coos to the baby. Stephen Alexander Herondale, his son, named after his grandfather and his Uncle Alec. Jace can hardly believe this gorgeous baby lying in his wife’s arm is really his, he is extremely proud of his son already and he is immensely proud of Clary, nothing he has ever done or ever will do, will ever top what Clary has just done, nothing will top her courage and bravery.
“I can’t believe he’s really ours.” Clary softly says, laying her head on Jace’s shoulder, gazing at her son with pure joy. Jace kisses Clary’s head and lets Stephen grab onto his finger.
“Me neither, I love you both so much.” Jace softly says, slipping an arm around Clary and pulling her closer to him. This has to be the happiest day of his life, sitting here with his beautiful, amazing wife and their perfect baby boy, Jace could not be happier, this is his idea of heaven.
*2 DAYS LATER*
“Jace are you sure you don’t want me to stay? It would be no hassle at all, really.” Maryse asks her son in a hopeful tone, after spending the last few hours visiting her sweet new grandson, who she is already infatuated with. She knows how daunting this must be for Clary and Jace and is more than willing to help out as much as she can.
“We can stay too Clary, this is such a daunting time, you and Jace are so young, wouldn’t you feel more at ease if your parents were here?” Jocelyn says to Clary, not wanting to leave her daughter when she has just had a baby and she does not want to leave her grandson either, she hadn’t been around when Ash was a baby and now that she has bonded with him and grown close to him, she desperately wishes she could have known about her grandson when he was a baby and taken him in and loved him. Now she wants to be around for everything with Stephen.
“Mom it’s fine, I couldn't ask you to stay with us anyway, dad has work to think about, he can hardly run a bookstore pretty much on his own, while helping to care for a newborn.” Clary calmly says.
“I don’t mind, I could close the store for a few days or ask Maia and Bat to run the show for a while, I’d rather spend time with my first grandchild than work, anyway.” Luke says, looking up from the baby’s face and smiling at his daughter. Being a grandfather is amazing, even though he feels far too young to be a grandfather he already adores his new role as a grandpa and couldn’t wait to be able to do all the things with Stephen that he hadn’t be able to do with Clary, like helping him learn to walk, talk, etc.
“Look we appreciate your offer to help out, we really do, but we’re copping just fine, Stephen is a very easy baby, he eats well, he sleeps well and he’s not that fussy, Clary is getting plenty of opportunity to rest and bond with Stephen, everything is fine.” Jace calmly reassures his mother and parents-in-law.
“Jace is right, you’re more than welcome to come visit anytime you like, Ash will be coming over in a few days to meet his cousin, and of course Magnus and Alec are constantly coming over with gifts, as are Izzy and Simon, but we don’t need you to stay with us.” Clary gently says, not wanting to offend her parents and mother-in-law.
“Alright, but you call us day or night if you need us, okay?” Jocelyn firmly says, hugging her daughter tightly, trying not to worry too much about her.
“We will mom, of course we will.” Clary says, as Luke passes Stephen to Jace.
Once Jocelyn, Luke and Maryse leave, Clary and Jace are able to breathe a sigh of relief. They appreciate their parents’ concern and willingness to help, but they can be very overwhelming at times and almost suffocating, though no doubt they mean well, Clary and Jace are glad to have some time alone with each other and their baby boy.
*Two weeks later*
“Delia what do you think of the baby?” Jem softly asks his daughter, kneeling beside her with baby Stephen in his arms. He, Tessa, Kit and Cordelia had come from Devon today to meet the newest little Herondale. It’s especially important for Kit to meet the baby, seeing as he is one of the only people alive that is related to him by blood.
Cordelia peers curiously at the bundle in her father’s arms, watching as Stephen blinks open his green eyes and gazes at her in fascination.
“He look like Uncle Will!” Cordelia exclaims in delight. She adores her Uncle Will, who often comes to visit her.
“You think so?” Jem softly asks, fondly remembering his parabatia.
“Uh hu, papa we keep him?” Cordelia curiously asks, looking up at Jem with pleading brown eyes. Jem chuckles softly and kisses his sweet little girl’s forehead.
“I don’t think Clary and Jace would be too pleased if we did that.” He softly says.
“I’m afraid you can’t take him home Cordy but you can come see him all the time.” Jace softly says, crouching next to his little cousin.
Before Cordelia can reply, Stephen starts to fuss and cry in Jem’s arms, his little face scrunching up and turning bright red.
“Oh dear, what’s wrong little one?” Jem coos, gently bouncing the crying baby in his arms, trying to settle him.
“He’s probably tired, it’s almost his nap time, I’ll go put him down for a bit.” Clary says, walking over to Jem and gathering her son into her arms.
10 minutes later when Clary comes downstairs from putting Stephen down for his nap, she realizes she has forgotten to put his baby monitor- that Magnus had enchanted to work in The Institute- in his room.
“Kit?” Clary calls to Jace’s cousin, grabbing the baby monitor off the sideboard.
“Yeah?” Kit asks, walking up to her and looking at her with questioning blue eyes.
“I forgot to take the monitor up when I put Stephen down for his nap, could you please take it up for me? I’d go myself but walking up and down all those stairs makes my pain worse.” She tentatively asks, not wanting to bother or annoy Kit but not feeling fit to walk back up all those stairs.
“Yeah no problem, which room is he in?” Kit asks, taking the monitor from Clary.
“Second room on the left on the second floor, thanks Kit, you’re doing me a big favor.” Clary says in appreciative tone.
“Anytime.” Kit says, before turning and jogging up the stairs.
A few minutes later when Kit steps into Clary and Jace’s room to leave the monitor in, he immediately notices two transparent figures, standing on either side of Stephen’s crib. One of them is a tall man who looks to be in his early 20s, he has straight blonde hair and sharp features. The other is a small, slim woman who also looks to be in her early 20s, she has long curling blonde hair with a soft, square face.
“Oh he is so sweet and beautiful, he looks just like our Jace.” The woman coos, leaning over the crib and stroking the baby’s cheek.
“Yes and Jace looks just like me, and this little one has my name too!” The man says in an excited proud tone.
“Jace looks like me too, and so he should, I carried him for nine months. Oh Stephen I wish we could have been around to raise Jace, I hate that Valentine ever got near him, my sweet boy.” The woman says in a solemn tone. It’s then that it hits Kit that these are Jace’s parents, Stephen and Céline. They’ve obviously come to meet their first grandchild. Kit hopes that they are much happier now in the after life than they had ever been when they were alive, he would love to be able to tell Jace that his parents are happy and watching out for him.
“I know Céline, me too, I wish I could get my hands on that bastard for what he did to my boy, he killed me and then stole my child, and it’s not as if he were doing it out of love for us or Jace, he beat him and abused him for years, but thank the angel that Maryse and Robert did give him a good life when they took him in, I never really like them but they loved our boy and cared for him, and for that I’m grateful.” Stephen says in a tight tone, anger welling up in him at the thoughts of what Valentine did to his child.
“Me too, if I can’t be a mother to Jace I’m glad Maryse is.” Céline quietly says. “And I’m glad our boy is finally getting the life he deserves, he is going to be such an amazing father to this little one.” Céline softly says, gazing at the sleeping baby.
“Yes he will, I’m so proud of him.” Stephen says.
“Me too.” Céline agrees.
Kit quietly places the baby monitor on the dresser right beside the door and quietly backs out of the room, not wanting to further disturb Céline and Stephen’s moment with their grandson.
As Kit makes his way back downstairs, little Stephen briefly wakes up, his eyes fluttering open to see his grandparents smiling down at him.
“It’s alright little on, go back to sleep, grandma and grandpa are here, we’ll keep you safe.” Céline whispers. Little Stephen smiles up at his grandparents and grabs onto Céline’s hand, before falling back into an easy sleep, guarded by his grandparents.

LAST CHANCE to Sign Up to Thank a Shadowhunters Fic Author Today!
“When fic authors receive comments, they know, clearly, that someone enjoyed their writing. And while leaving kudos on a fanfic also allows you to say that you enjoy what you’ve read, as a fanfic author, I can tell you that there’s nothing sweeter than getting comments on my fics. I love reading them, and knowing that people enjoy my writing when I do.”
- icecat45, The Importance of Commenting on Fanfiction
Fanfiction has become a significant part of fandoms. Shadowhunters alone has 1,800 works on Fanfiction.net and over 17,000 works on Archive of Our Own. Fic writers have taken characters from the show and creatively dropped them into well-developed alternate universes and breathed new life into canon universe moments. Sharing their work freely with the world, they allow others in the fandom to step into their imaginings and experience their interpretations.
However, authors still often go underappreciated. This is where you come in.
Do you read Shadowhunters fics and want to show your appreciation beyond the typical comment? Sign up here to write a personalized thank you card to an author of your choice.
Use the Author Claims List to choose which fic writer you would like to write to. Please keep in mind that this sign-up process is operating on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Read the instructions below the cut or on the Author Appreciation Day page for more information.
General Event Guidelines
This is designed to be a positive event, showing support for our amazing authors and helping strengthen the bond between fic readers and writers. As such, I reserve the right to disregard and/or not post any negative responses.
Although this blog recs Malec-centric fics, everyone in the Shadowhunters fandom is welcome to participate in this event regardless of what pairings you prefer or kinds of fics you write.
However, this blog is also dedicated to healthy representations of characters and relationships based firmly on equality. I reserve the right to deny the opportunity for participation to those who write homophobic and/or racist material (i.e., erasing a minority or character's sexuality).
Whether you’re relatively new to the fandom or you’ve been here for a while, everyone is welcome to participate.
If an author and/or reader would like to participate in both parts of the event, they are more than welcome to do so.
If authors would like to participate as both a reader and writer in either part of the event, they are more than welcome to do so.
Sign-Up Process
Through another sign-up form, fic writers who wished to receive a thank you card provided me with their pseudonym and self-identifying fic information. This can now be found on the Author Claims List, which will be updated as frequently as possible throughout the sign-up process.
Thank You Card Writers will be asked to give their first name / nickname and the best way to be contacted about who they have been paired up with (Tumblr username / Twitter handle / email address).
Using the Author Claims List, Thank You Card Writers will be asked to list their top five author choices in order from the one they would prefer to be assigned to the most (as 1) to the least (as 5). They will be paired with an author on a first-come, first-serve basis.
I am hoping that the ranking system allows participants to be assigned to at least one of their choices. In the event that all five of your choices have already been assigned, I will reach out to you via the contact information above and have you choose someone else.
If Thank You Card Writers do not have an author preference and/or are willing to write more than one thank you card (should the need arise), they will have the opportunity to note that on the form.
The sign-up form will close on June 12th at 9:00PM EST. Thank You Card Writers will receive a message within 48 to 72 hours of it closing (if they have not been contacted already) about which author they have been paired with.
Following the sign-up process, Thank You Card Writers will have nearly two months to write their personalized thank you message. It must be submitted to the appropriate form by August 1st at 9:00PM EST.
Thank You Card Writers are not responsible for purchasing or designing a physical card, paying for postage for cards that will be mailed, or getting their card to their assigned author. I will take care of all of that once all messages have been submitted.

|PICTURES ARE NOT MINE|
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The institute shined in holiday lights. It took everyone hours to decorate the inside of the institute. You could still hear Jace grumbling in your ear about how pointless the entire thing was. But you all had persevered. The institute looked so glorious. Many pictures were taken because everyone was very proud of the results.
Magnus summoned most of the decorations, others were made by everyone in attendance (even Jace though he wasn’t given a choice), and some even came from respective childhoods.
The halls were filled with the sound of holiday music as you all decorated. With the occasional argument over decorations, (and the mishap where Max accidentally set multiple trees on fire), you were all putting in work. The institute truly looked like a Christmas card.
Jace, being the angsty adult teenager he is, kept pestering you about when dinner was going to get there.
....................
Last night was Christmas Eve and though the majority were neither religious or didn’t celebrate Christmas, it was agreed to get together to celebrate the holidays that night.
The institute smelled delightful with multiple pastries and appetizers adoring the tables.
First, you waited for everyone to show up. You and Jace got there early as the Lightwood siblings had agreed to help their mother with preparing the food. You decided to come along with Jace because you thought there was no point waiting three more hours waiting at home when you could show up early and help your mother-in-law. Jace hadn’t been looking forward to helping Mayrse cook and clean, any more than he was excited to see what food Isabelle decided to bring.
When you portalled into the institute you immediately heard chatter in the kitchen.
After setting down your bags of presents by the tree, you followed the noise and sure enough, Isabelle, Alec, Simon, and Maryse were already there. Mayse was standing very intimidatingly in the center of the kitchen giving everyone orders with a wave of the knife she was holding.
“Ah, the perfect picture of Shadowhunter holidays.” Jace said announcing your presence
Mayrses head had snapped towards the two of you and she smiled immediately embracing her adopted son, and you as well (to your surprise).
“Good, you’re here. Jace, go help Alec with the stuffing. Dear, if you could help Simon and Isabelle with the mashed potatoes that would be lovely.”
Simon looked like he was meant for a baking show, with a holiday apron and white chefs hat. He seemed very concerned as he watched his fiance pour things into the bowl. When you came over he smiled, happy to not have to be the one to tell Isabelle that she wasn’t following the recipe correctly and therefore getting snapped at.
And so the next few hours passed with a lot of orders from Maryse and annoyed debate from Isabelle after she considered putting brownie batter in the mashed potatoes.
........
Then, Luke and Jocelyn showed up holding ceramic bowls filled with food.
Clary came only a few moments later her red hair disheveled and covered with snow, a bag clearly filled with presents hung at her side.
Last, but certainly not least, coming fashionably late, was Magnus and a well dressed Max.
Unfortunately Robert Lightwood had some things in Alicante that he couldn’t be excused for. So he was unable to join.
They invited Aline and her family but they were spending Christmas with Aline’s girlfriend, Helen, and the rest of the Blackthorn family.
Greetings went by swiftly and then everyone sat down and ate dinner.
Afterwards multiple card and board games were gone through. Jace and Alec had gotten up sometime in the middle wanting to ‘fetch something’ but you translated that to ‘I want to go play swords with my parabatai’. They were only gone for a few moments before Mayrse had dragged them back saying they were going to ruin their nice clothes.
You have to say your favorite part was when Mayrse began retelling past holiday stories about Jace, Alec, Isabelle, and their late brother Max.
.....................
Finally the presents were passed around.
Max got an overwhelming amount of presents by Alec’s standards.
“You guys really didn’t have to get him so many presents. I mean, you should see the amount that is lying under our own tree back home!” Alec stressed.
But Max was happy so he didn’t press much more.
You gave Jace a ceramic duck, he glared at you and shook his head disapprovingly as everyone else laughed in amusement.
“Just be glad I didn’t get a live duck like Magnus suggested.” You whispered
Jace looked a little horrified at the thought and shivered.
.........................
After presents were done, the mindless chatter began.
People would take turns playing with Max, and then Max would be passed around on people's laps once he started to get tired, eventually landing in Alec’s lap while Magnus played with his son's hair affectionately.
You couldn’t remember when you first started getting lulled into sleep. Maybe it was when Magnus sat at the piano, playing multiple tunes that he had heard throughout his life. Probably not when Clary and Simon recited a holiday song they learned in elementary school. If you couldn’t guess they weren’t the best of singers. Perhaps it was when Jace started combing his fingers through your hair, as you laid your head against his chest. The warmth of his body and the rythmic sound of his heartbeat probably helped as well. Yeah, that was probably it.
...........
The light pours into your room. Not unpleasant but enough to wake you from your peaceful slumber.
You quickly realize that you’re back in the Herondale house. The new familiarity of the room you and Jace (mostly you, since Jace kept insisting he didn’t care how you decorated) decorated. The single bookshelf that isn’t a far distance from your bed holds both of your favorite reads as well as photographs from your wedding, honeymoon, missions, and other memorable moments with your family and friends.
Your eyes first go to a picture with Jace, who wore a wide grin with his nephew, Max on his shoulders wearing one quite similar. You took that photo while at a fair (something Jace had considered ‘childish’ but had a lot of fun at). It was at the end of the night. Max obviously exhausted, but overall ecstatic, it had been his first time at the fair. Jace looked sweaty and worn out but you could tell that he wasn’t tired. He was a shadowhunter after all.
On a shelf down is a picture of you and Jace, simply talking. It was after a rougher mission and you were both bloodied and bruised but the look of pure love the two of you shared had drawn you to frame it.
Looking towards the left, on your windowsill was a picture from your wedding. You in your gold dress, and Jace in his button up black shirt with his black leather jacket. You and Jace were sitting down, tired from socializing and dancing. Your head was on his shoulder and he was peering down at you, a big smile on his face, one that reflected on your own.
You laugh a little bit thinking back to a time where you thought you and Jace would’ve never been. How happy you are that you were wrong.
“What are you laughing at so early in the morning?” A familiar voice rasps, still laced in sleep
You shake your head moving your body so you could face him. “Nothing.” you smile brightly looking at him.
Jace Herondale, your husband, who is more angel than the majority of Shadow Hunters, has killed more demons than anyone his age, and a damn good shadow hunter, is laying in bed next to you, his eyes lined with a reminisce of sleep.
“Take a picture, it’ll last longer.” The blonde voices with a tired smirk
You huff out a laugh and comb your fingers lazily through his blonde locks.
Jace makes a grumble of appreciation and his mouth softens to a genuine pleased smile. His head subconsciously leans into your head.
You smile and go down for a kiss, one he returns with great pleasure.
Kissing Jace Herondale is how you would imagine a goodbye-this is the last time I might ever see you again-kiss. Its hard, full of passion, and yearning.
His hand is on the back of your head with a firm-but not too firm-grip keeping you close.
You are the one to pull away first causing a noise of disapproval from your husband.
“Merry Christmas.” You barely manage to say before Jaces lips were back on yours.
With a bit of a struggle you pull back and smiled, “We need to get ready.”
Jace scoffs disapprovingly, “What for?”
“We’re supposed to be meeting up with your family again later.” You answer
“Later. We saw plenty of them last night. I’m sure they won’t mind me spending today with my wife.” He says before pulling you in for another kiss
“You spend every day with me.” You murmur trying to hold onto the thought of Alec, Magnus, and Max who were expecting you later on.
“And everyday I only want you more.” He whispers, his hands roaming your body in pleasure, pulling you closer to him as if you were pulling away.
But you weren’t, you're not sure you could when you wanted him just as much.
You pull back and hold his face in your hands, his lips still only a few inches from yours.
He pouts and glares at you.
You laugh in response.
“We can’t miss breakfast. Magnus will hold it over our heads for the rest of our lives.”
“I don’t give a flying fu-” Jace began only for you to cover his mouth
“Jace!” You laugh a little. Just a little.
The famous Herondale smirk was ever so present when you remove your hand. “Fine. We can do breakfast, lunch, and dinner or whatever but after that you’re mine for the night.”
Your heart skips a beat, “Sounds wonderful.”
He smiles bringing you in this time for a warm embrace.
“I love you.” You murmur into his shoulder
“I love you more.” He murmurs back, a stupid grin on his face.

Part of the defense squad of most Shadowhunter Chronicles characters. Except most villains. I ship most Canon ships. Not Maryse x Robert or Valentine x Jocelyn or Climon or Simon x Maia. But most other Canon ships. Endgame ships
Also I want a story of Thule dimension with Ash, Jace, and Sebastian. So if someone writes a good fanfic, let me know. Otherwise, I hope Cassie decides to make a trilogy or novella one day of a written out Thule story.

True to Herself
Written for Femslash February - Prompt: Confusion
Read on AO3
One of Maryse’ strongest traits was that she was solid. She was a brave shadowhunter who led the institute with a clear mind and closed heart. Her intelligence made it easier for her to make decisions and her pure morals made her know when something was right and something was wrong.
Until it wasn’t so black and white anymore.
Maryse met Robert Lightwood when she was just a teenager. Her mother would always preach to her about remaining true to her blood. She always cursed her maiden name for it. When her parents met Robert, it was love at first sight. He provided a foolproof plan for Maryse’s future and she wasn’t against that. She wanted to run an Institute one day and she knew that Robert was the perfect way to do it. So she married him on a lovely spring day in Alicante and never looked at another man again.
And then there was Jocelyn. The strong willed, stubborn, beautiful Jocelyn. They fought side by side for the Circle while their husbands plotted a new world. One that would be rid of demonic energy so their children could grow up pure and never be stuck fighting for good. They trained together, ate together, researched together, spent every single moment of time they weren’t with their husbands together.
But the world revolved around Jocelyn. For Valentine, for Lucian, for Maryse. Everyone was pulled to her in a way that Maryse wished she had. Valentine loved his wife almost as much as he loved the Circle. Lucian loved her more than he loved the Circle. And Maryse? Maryse didn’t care about the Circle. She followed her husband because it was the right thing to do. She stayed because it led her to Jocelyn.
But Jocelyn betrayed them. She turned on her husband, her child, her friends and, more heartbreakingly for her, on Maryse. Maryse had never felt her heart break before that moment. She thought she knew what sadness felt like, what betrayal felt like. When Valentine announced that Jocelyn had abandoned them, her mind and body stopped. It was like a million seraph blades stabbed through her and no iratze could heal the wounds. She had never felt pain like that before.
It took her years before she realized why.
It wasn’t until Clary waltzed into her children’s life that she accepted her feelings for what they were. She always thought she had wished to be as loved as Jocelyn. But she realized that wasn’t what she had wanted at all. She wanted Jocelyn to love her the way that she loved Jocelyn. Deeply and purely and without any thought.
She never fought for it, though. She never searched the realms for her or asked the most powerful beings on her payroll for help. She let Jocelyn go because the Circle was ruined and she had her and her children’s name to protect.
And it confused Maryse. She had been with her husband, happily, for so many years. There was nothing pushing her away until she was much older. And she realized soon that she didn’t care that Robert was slipping away. She didn’t care that her family name was tarnished. She didn’t care that her son was dating a warlock or that her daughter was dating a seelie.
When Alec marched down that aisle and grabbed a man by the lapels and kissed him with all his might, Maryse realized that nothing else mattered.
None of that mattered because they were happy living true to themselves. And she wasn’t about to let her own shot at happiness disappear. She was going to have her Jocelyn back if she had to fight the world for her.

Malec’s pillowcase is ivory colored. I stan.
MAGNUS IS DOING DREAM MAGIC. HOLY SHIT.
OMG THE WEDDING IS HAPPENING IN A DREAM SDFKJHFKSFHKDFGHD AND IT’S AT BLACKFRIARS I CANNOT HANDLE THIS!!!!
Tessa is wearing gray pyjamas with white rabbits on them to her wedding and I think it’s iconic.
“I would marry you if you were wearing a barrel.” - JEM PLEASE DON’T
Alec kissed Magnus on his forehead—being slightly shorter than Magnus, he had to pull Magnus down a bit to do it, which Magnus didn’t mind, at all.- AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHELPHHHHHHHHHHH
“So let me get this straight,” Alec said. - I don’t think you can, buddy.
Church attending Jessa wedding is the best thing ever.
Awww Jocelyn is painting again :)
LIVIA IS HERE OMFG SOMEBODY HOLD ME
EMMA AND CLARY ARE THE SAME HEIGHT LMAO
Max sitting on Alec’s shoulders and telling a story to Haline - SOFTNESS
KADIR IS MARYSE’S PLUS ONE TO THE WEDDING AND MAGNUS DID THAT HE SHIPS KADIR X MARYSE YAAAAAAASSSSSSS
Silent brothers are attending the wedding and brother Enoch is here too. Omg this is the best party ever.
Octavian was climbing Jace like a jungle gym. - cuteeeeeeeee
MAGNUS IS DOING THE CEREMONY TOO
Clary’s eyes were glistening. Jace reached into his pocket and offered her what looked like a handkerchief but was more likely a soft cloth for polishing blades. She gave a wry smile of recognition, and sniffled into it. - I WOULD DIE FOR THIS SWORD BOY. I REALLY WOULD.
THE RING SAYS MIZPAH - OMG THE THROWBACK AND THE FEELS.
Magnus noted that Alec was looking very foxy in his Armani suit - MAGNUS CALLED ALEX FOXY!!!!
