The book is finally out!
Tumblr media
Here's a line:
Amidst her chant, she mumbles under her breath some noises that sound like self-directed arguments where she can find no answers to as she spirals into a dark pit of trepidation and angst. Her anxieties have never been clinically diagnosed but are plain to see. Her chronic compulsions have blistered her palms and fingers; they are almost always wrinkly from endless washing. In thirty minutes, her chore is complete and she meticulously hangs her clothes piece by piece, flatly on a rack to dry under the sun.

Sometimes im reminded that Malaysian tend to have like the habit of switching up languages with no big issues and forgot that not everyone can do that
I went to the local food market, the type that is out in the open with several stalls all placed together closely and its crowded and stuff right
So I talk to my brother and sister in English, Mandarin + Cantonese to my mom and dad. If we're ordering food from the aunty uncle, we either use hokkien / fujian or Malay (depending the race of the seller)
There was a neighbouring customer who were white(think they were from America judging from the bag and general mannerism) that started talking to my dad and he was just saying how insane we sounded switching languages around HAHA

Wait did being into tech erase Valentino of his latino identity or did I miss something? Why does have only American accent now? 🥺
OH let me clarify! ( °□°) ՞ ՞ Veeswap Valentino is still Hispanic he just has an American Accent! He does not have the ability to change between different accents anymore. Unfortunately, his programming language is more fluent than his (very bad) Spanish
This is something that Veeswap Velvette, who is both black and hispanic, can do now instead. I just wanted to swap their accents but their ethnicities stay (mostly) the same!

one of the understated benefits of learning basic global geography is when you meet people who are from a country not often talked about here (in my case canada) you can usually impress them by knowing literally any goddamn thing because the bar is so fucking low

Okay, so like.
If you are not in any Chinese fandoms and have not watched any Chinese tv shows.
How do I get you into my very tiny fandoms so they won’t be so tiny?
You do not have to watch The Untamed. You should, but that’s beside the point.
I just.
I just want you to appreciate a few people. These people are mostly singers and some of them also do like goofy variety shows and things.
Some of them are HUGE STARS in China which means that numbers-wise they probably have far more fans than most American singers. Some are not that big but still have decent Chinese fan bases.
But the number of people who don’t speak fluent Mandarin who are into them is smaller than whatever tiny English-language media fandom you’re comparing them to in your head.
Like.
Only one of them has a subreddit, and that has 11 members, two of whom are me and my sister.
I’m the only person who’s posted in the past year. My sister is the only person who replies to my posts.
Another one has enough fans in North America that he’s doing a few tour stops here, but I’ve been told that there won’t be enough people at those shows who don’t speak mandarin for him to bother speaking any English.
I just want more than two people (thank you for existing @tdkeh ) to scream about these people with.
So here’s one question: I found all these people via a show called Our Song. It’s a singing competition, but very light on the competition aspect. It’s mostly about older singers mentoring younger ones, and they do duets together.
Right now, I’m in the middle of a project to a) edit the episodes down from 1.5-2 hrs to 45-55 min b) give them better English subtitles bc the ones on YouTube are bad and c) annotate them with cultural context I didn’t have when I first watched that makes many of the performances more enjoyable or make more sense.
Is there, like, any chance whatsoever that I can convince any of you (whether or not you’re already in any Chinese fandoms) to watch these when they’re done? It’s only 12 episodes.
What would convince you to watch these? Or to consume any media by/featuring these people?
