(HIB Wukong) Luier and Silly girl already loved you when you made their father happy. They also became fast friends and Siblings with Godzilla Jr. Goji Jr was quick to become very protective over his younger smaller brother and Sister. But overall the 3 were loving play mates, and Silly girl had started calling you mama at the end of the visit as Luier would sit by you asking questions. Which put another painful blush on his face as he watched the whole interaction. You also Might be wondering why pigsy didn't bother to flirt with you......????

(Netflix Wukong) the dragon king Screamed like a little girl when he saw you at Lin's house. While Lin herself, she could even begin to comprehend what's going on here. Wukong had bought you and Goji Jr to meet his friends and so far Goji Jr loved Lin as he went and licked her face. Making Lin laugh at the tickles, meanwhile dragon king was down for the count as you stared down at him with a glare. Dragon king remained on his best behavior while you were there Because his life literally depended on it.

Not sure if you have covered this, but I’ll ask. How would you have gone about Macaque’s redemption arc…if it’s possible with how he was written before season four? No hate or debate, just curious. I like alternate takes on characters :3

Hmm okay I thought on this for a little bit, and the crux of my problem with Macaque’s arc is that he’s established late Season Three to be “not a bad person” when-

1. He enjoys hurting people

2. He goes out of his way to hurt people

3. He hurts many people

4. He expresses no regret or remorse for hurting people

5. He faces no consequences for hurting innocent people aside from his intended victims winning their fights against him

6. His victims are reduced to a hivemind of non-autonomous set dressings who have no feelings on his presence or past crimes

And he promptly just becomes a person that everyone is okay with despite everything. So, if we have to keep the “one good action is enough to redeem you for betrayal, deceit, slandering, multiple counts of assault and attempted murder”, then we need to shift some things.

So I think the best thing to do if we want the actual “redemption arc” to hit the way it’s supposed to in canon is-

1. Thin his list of victims

2. Thin his list of crimes to the point that one good deed is actually a reasonable atonement for all of them

3. Play up his victimhood at the hands of the Mayor

4. Establish his inability to escape from the Lady Bone Demon much sooner

If the crux of his arc is just being forgiven by ONE of his many victims and then becoming a good person, then we just need to sharply reduce the amount of victims he has to make the immediate and all-encompassing forgiveness feel more realistic.

When he’s “sieging” the city in Macaque, the Smoke Demon ignores everyone who isn’t MK and deals no structural damage, creating no victims aside from the Monkie Kid.

When he’s performing in Shadowplay, Macaque portals MK away to fight him alone, leaving everyone else unharmed, creating no victims aside from the kid.

Then, when he’s stolen away by the Mayor, either:

1. Lady Bone Demon implants him with her powers right away, preventing him from running away and immediately establishing him as desperate, or, what I’d argue for-

2. Send the Mayor with him.

When he receives the compass and is released, Macaque pulls a Bone Key-

and throws it away, trying to shadow portal away, only to be greeted by

The Mayor, who proceeds to outright accompany Macaque on this journey, thereby serving as a foil to Tang Sanzang.

Where Sun Wukong was taken under the wing of someone who genuinely cared for him and wanted to see him improve, Macaque is forcibly dragged along by an outright malicious figure who wants to see him rot.

(Fuck, have Lady Bone Demon give Macaque an ice circlet to seal the “foil” deal! Have him be forced into these actions in outright agony! It would help Sun Wukong sympathize with him, expediting the “forgiveness” that a redemption arc needs!)

In fact, every time Macaque tries to leave, or steps out of line or even just fails? You hear an offscreen thud and yelping and then when we get to see him next, there’s new bruises on his body, new tears in his clothes. His fur becomes messy. His eyes grow haunted.

Play up his victimhood to coax the audience into sympathizing with him.

Macaque tries to run. The Mayor hurts him. He tries to stall. The Mayor hurts him. He tries to argue. The Mayor hurts him. He tries to fight back. The Mayor beats him back into subservience.

Establish that Macaque has utterly exhausted all avenues of “escape” before he resorts to attacking the Monkie Kids, and even then, have him try to avoid the majority of them in favor of MK, only to be forced by the Mayor into actually fighting Mei, Tang, Sandy, and Pigsy.

So now every character understands why he’s doing this- and don’t have a reason to hold it against him or expect any further atonement because none of his worst actions (like sieging the Dragon Palace) actually need to be addressed- they aren’t his fault.

That basically solves all the problems I have with the “arc” as it stands, honestly.

So in Post Jttw... what if it was Macaque who got possessed by LBD? The consequences of Macaque's actions, so to speak, being that when the Samhadi Fire goes wrong (as it's bound to with the Mayor), Macaque tries one last desperate ploy to protect bis family by doing the exact same thing Wukong had done in canon. I also imagine Wukong might not have known about Mei's Ring of Samhadi because, well, presumably, the entirety of heaven knew of his condition when the ritual took place... so instead of Wukong being there, Macaque had taken his place because no way in hell was Nez Ha letting his pregnant brother (altho he wouldn't have admitted it at such a time) near such a dangerous ritual. Macaque was the one who slipped up, he was distracted by the distant sound of Wukong collapsing from the strain of his egg, the Egg was reacting to the primordial energy even far enough away to be out of range!

And Wukong still ends up having to fight Macaque, because if Macaque is Wukong's equal on battle than no way could Nez Ha fight against him and win and Wikong would be the only one capable of fighting Macaque. He only pauses long enough to return to FFM for his armor, not wanting to risk the baby. Luckily, he isn't heavily pregnant, but it's still noticeable enough and late enough that some caution is necessary. Nobody likes this at all, but MK gets his stubbornness from somewhere, and it certainly isn't his dad.

Flip the script!

Macaque feeling like he's failed Wukong and his cubs so much that he ends up being the one to try and confront LBD directly when Mei's Ring of Samadhi is activated.

Macaque could not protect Ao Lie all those centuries ago because he was distracted by his mate's pained cries - the Egg sensing a terrible power, still tried to absorb it despite being some distance away. Part of this "screw-up" is why Macaque feels that he needs to disappear and find a way to destroy LBD for good; he feels that Wukong is safer when Macaque isn't there to "ruin" things.

And of course Macaque refuses to harm the little girl LBD has hostage as her host.

The Lady Bone Demon takes her champion.

Nezha and the Eclipse Twins end up being the ones to capture and interrogate the Mayor. The Mayor gets a solid punch to the face from MK himself, too frustrated and angry to hold himself back. The thrall laughs manically as the heroes call up the Underworld to collect him.

Wukong and Macaque are forced to fight each other head-on for the first time in centuries. A terrifying reminder of how they fought before Macaque realised that his mate was carrying an Egg.

Wukong manages to break Macaque's possession with one simple action - placing his mate's hand on his stomach. The six ears of the shadow monkey twitching as it focuses on heartbeats within. Almost how it happened back during the Journey.

The blue glow in Macaque's eyes quickly fade, his face blooming into a smile that falls into a guilt frown - how could he have hurt his mate this way?! After all he did to protect him and their cubs! The married monkeys hug and smooch as they make up entirely.

The Lady Bone Demon is left confused and de-powered enough for the rest of the family/troupe to get the drop on her.

Lady Bone Demon: "Oh, my power has far surpassed what it was when we last met in battle. Even now, I sense you do not have what it takes to defeat me. Sun Wukong: "Hmph. That won't stop me from trying." Mayor: "A hero to the end! How delightful."

Lady Bone Demon: "*laughs* No back up and no weapon. So your plan is to...fist fight a child?"

who is your favorite character from LMK? And your least favorite?

oh well I have many favorites of mine although my main favorite is the camel ridge trio (Peng tusk and azure) they are honestly not just my most favorite villains of lmk but in media

And what the season 4 special did to them was such bullshit but I already went in why I hate the special before

Cause like I can see their cause and actually rooted for them to win in season 4 I can see why they want to dethrone the jade emperor and why they wouldn’t let anyone stand in their way!

especially considering the times of ancient China cause let’s face it despite how beautiful and amazing the ancient times were…they were really problematic cause like slavery was a thing and normalized back then

and we also have problems in modern society with politics world hunger etc so it would make since why azure Peng and tusk would do the things they do and I can understand why they felt so betrayed by wukong cause imagine your leader who you haven’t seen in 500 years (assuming they didn’t even know he was sealed away under a mountain) and hearing about him again but he is working for a monk who was a celestial to get scriptures from India and your said brother had attacked not only demons but your old sworn brothers as well and even killed one (aka macaque)

I would honestly feel betrayed and angry myself yet I love how azure doesn’t hate wukong or hold grudges he literally was gonna keep him in the scroll till he killed the jade emperor then he would have released him and help him see reason

like I can talk about these three All damn day they are my absolute favorites of mine and they deserved a lot better then what the special did (and azure definitely did not deserve to be villainized and transformed into some type of tyrant and don’t say “well he had a lot of power so-“ my friend he was king before and from what I seen in jttw he was a great leader he literally calls his soldiers little wind cutters and don’t say they were always evil keep in mind it was wukong who attacked first they weren’t gotta hurt the monk or anything it just when wukong attacked they got pissed off cause it this)

unfortunately I could care less for xiangliu like I personally think he is a massive hypocrite and also batshit insane-

for the mayor….to me I don’t really also care much to me he is just the lady bone demons servant and it sucks cause like we don’t get to see why he is the way he is and why he fellows lady bone demon like a lapdog

and it feels weird at the end of the season 3 special he is nowhere to be seen i feel like if they expanded his lore more i may would have find him cool but like there is barely shit about him

Hmmm... I'm not that much of a multi shipper but I do find some ships 'interesting'!

Toxicinsanity (Mayor X Syntax) is always a fun one. I love the art and the angst that goes with it. I mean, Mayor literally kills Syntax so anything healthy coming out from it is a bit of a far stretch. I talked about it in another ask recently but yeah this ship is good lol.

But the idea of a healthy relationship being a far stretch is the same with shadowpeach (Wukong x Macaque) for me. I mean, I kind of like it? I see the appeal (I won't pass up their gay monkey content). But with the way the characters have been established as of right now (pre season five) I cannot see Wukong and Macaque fully reconciling with each other and making full amends for their wrong doings against each other. Even if the idea of these two becoming as close as they used to be before the attack on the celestial realm seems too strange for me. Some relationships can't be repaired. But honestly the idea that the two were childhood lovers or had crushes on each other before the falling out is really sweet so I'll give it that.

Destiny bones (Mayor x LBD) is a ship I would love if not for how LBD literally just replaces Mayor with Wukong in S3 Finale. But honestly given how LBD was literally going to die if she didn't do that I'm pretty sure Mayor would forgive her (I mean, I doubt LBD could do anything for any reason to make them not worship her anymore). And, to be honest, if she really did want to replace the Mayor with a more powerful servant, then she probably would have already gotten rid of him when she regained her hold on Macaque. But anyways, I love the dynamic of LBD having so much control over Mayor and what that could mean for their relationship. I can definitely see Mayor being in love with LBD (in all the ways possible), it's just the idea of LBD loving Mayor in turn which makes me contemplate it a little. I mean, I just don't see LBD as someone who would invest in a romantic relationship? Or any relationship at all? Not because she is heartless but because she has dedicated her life to her destiny. She does not have time to pursue personal attachments. All in all, another not really healthy relationship (in which they are low-key co-workers/partners in crime) but it makes my brain turn/pos! Boss and henchman dynamic for the win!!!

And now for some honourable mentions (might be updated when I think of some more opinions)!:

Silktea (Sandy x Huntsman) - Read a few fanfics and seen fan art, I like it but Cyberhunt (Syntax x Huntsman) has grabbed my brain a little bit more solely because it is in fact, a toxic co-worker dynamic LMAO.

Dragonfruit (Mei x Red Son) - This beats spicynoodles for me ngl. I think it's just because the dynamic between these two is stronger and they have more moments together. But then again, I think the Traffic Light Trio are better off as good friends.

BrokenBonesTrio (Macaque x Syntax x Mayor) - This isn't necessarily a ship but the dynamic between these guys is so funny lmao. None of them are normal and so they will not do normal things.

Freenoodles (Pigsy x Tang) - Also really sweet to me, I just, love those two. I know that Lego will probably never officially make them canon but I think it's just a given that the two are in a relationship, married or not. Sometimes the coding in the writing is enough.

Syntax x Shoe Store Worker - An inside joke between me and a mutual of mine but it's a very silly crack ship.

Regardless, none of these ships will top Shadowpuppet for me. I rest my case.

Random Thoughts 2

Thought 1:

The show made a very cute and creative fallback to the pilot episode A Hero is Born to show MK's growth in power.

In the pilot episode, his mech-deafening DBK was a large explosion on Earth and made a small nudge to the solar system.

But at the end of season 4 after MK's mega transformation and his blow to Azure, the light reaches the end of the solar system this time instead of a team rocket flying away star in the piolet.

Thought 2:

I am wondering if we will see Subhodi in the next season but maybe meet MK for real and maybe reunite with Wukong. Those two's history would make an interesting reunion.

Thought 3:

I would love to see the regrowth not only with Macaque but DBK as well. It seems that he and Wukong are already closer than he and Macaque as seen in the final episode.

We will definitely see Peng they seem like the type of person who will join the more powerful and winning side and they most likely will join the dark side and be like the Macaque or Mayor of the previous seasons. They will either be beside the enemy like the mayor was with LBD or be ruled over like Macaqe was with LBD.

I’m actually really close to finishing the first chapter and I’m excited for it.

(Macaque didn’t die) Basically a while after the journey Wukong is trapped off ffm he can’t physically leave past the shores due to the celestial realm and jade emperor putting up a barrier. Wukong and Macaque who before any of this happened had a cub in the safety of their mountain were unaware.

Macaque had left to go find something to free his husband, in his absence some celestial warriors became very active outside of the barrier. Wukong had all but holed up into the mountains with Xiaotian and a few of his immortal monkeys who knew of the cub’s existence.

Wukong only makes an appearance if the warriors were getting too far inland after getting too comfortable with Wukong not appearing.

He sends Xiaotian outside the barrier and hopefully to safety after finding out about their plans for ffm.

With Wukong not actually being findable/reachable for a while, someone else has to take up the mantle as mentor. Nezha.

He would be one of the very few people who knows of Mk’s origins and have enough experience with Wukong. Wukong definitely thought he was winning awesome big brother points by showing off.

Meanwhile Macaque is running around helping the Mayor when the materials Lbd said she needs to boost her powers to take down the barrier. Macaque is confused about Mk and is wondering if one of the other two celestial monkeys had cubs and why Nezha is following them around.

Nezha is not big on his nephew getting hurt but is trying his best on both letting Mk find his way of doing things and not knowing the full scope of his powers. Mk is picking up on this and sometimes Nezha slips up when he meets the rest of the group they realize he knows more about Mk’s past and powers then he lets on.

LMK Ride Or Die AU

The AU is (relatively) parallel to cannon up to a point.

Sun Wukong (60), World famous Dancer and musician, wants to retire. He holds a battle of the bands style contest in Megapolis (his hometown), in which the winner will receive his Lucky golden Microphone (staff equivalent), and the opportunity to become his apprentice.

Mac (Macaque) is a bass player/beatboxer/break-dancer who turns out to be Sun wukong's twin brother, the black sheep of the family.

MK (21), a college freshman that works part time at his adopted father's noodle shop “Pigsy’s noodles” [his name is Paul, (42)], and a music prodigy with the uncanny ability to learn any instrument in under an hour, thinks it would be neat to enter the contest with his friend Mei [(22, Popular Twitch streamer and music buff, Heiress of the dragon family (Old Money)], who has been wanting to start a band since forever.

They convince Tang [(38, Paul’s Husband, accomplished Scholar and teacher at Malin’s college)] to be their manager, and recruit Sandy [(43, Ex con, Lyricist/poet, and lifetime friend of Paul] to write their songs. Calls themselves “the Monkie Kids”.

Red Kingston [(23), Red Son] A robotics genius trying to break into the music industry to spite his parents; Penelope Kingston [(48), princess iron fan, retired actress] and Bruce Kingston [(52), Demon Bull King, founder of Bullcorp [Apple equivalent Tech company]] decides to compete; seeing it as an opportunity to kickstart his career.

Other notable competitors are Jin and Yin (20) [Soundcloud rappers and Classmates of MK], and Malin Meister [(19), Nonbinary Social media influencer, rising Independent Artist/performer, and child of the late Laura Demona (58, Lady Bone Demon alternate, once an Actress and bitter Rival to Sun Wukong)].

The Monkie kids win, and MK gets chosen as Wikongs’s successor.

Red acts as the main antagonist, until new competition in the form of Spider Queen (22, Melissa bitsy) and her lackeys show up and threaten to throw the rest of them into obscurity, forcing them to work together to take her down.

For the main group, the majority of the plot goes much the same way as the cannon story; The crew learns the ins and outs of music production, how to operate in the music industry, improve their skills, compete to get gigs, become closer as a group;

But things get shaken up for Malin and Milton [(21), The not mayor alternate. Son of a corrupt politician/ Businessman who’s always overseas, trust fund kid. Plays right hand man/platonic life partner to Malin. He loves their 5D chess like approach to navigating life, and relies on their devastating smarts, weirdly accurate prediction skills, and artistic talent to get by] a week or so after Wukong’s contest.

Malin finishes editing their latest video, and decides to get something to eat as they wait for it to upload. They leave their office and go downstairs to see Milton standing, dazed and confused, in their Livingroom.

At least, they thought he was Milton. Until the actual Milton knocks at their door.

[”Oh, you don’t need to worry about me. I’m fine.” Milton smiles. Malin is about to respond, when they feel a faint buzz in their pocket.

They look away from him to check their phone, face twisting in mild worry ”Are you certain you're okay, Milt? You never come over unannounced, and you've been acting pretty weird since you got here. something has to be wro-….” the words die in their throat as they unlock the device, confusion blossoming forth, as the text {”I'm outside.”} **was displayed on the screen, Clearly sent from Milton's phone number. Their blood ran cold, looking back at the man they had previously believed to be their friend, and seeing no phone in his hand.

It was strange, Malin hadn't noticed before. He looked exactly like Milton, from his head to his toes. He had the same voice, the same verbal ticks and gestural mannerisms; even his clothes resembled something they had seen on their friend before.

His eyes, though. Pure white, with no Irises or pupils, emanating a soft light they had previously mistook for the sun shining weirdly through the window. It was in that moment Malin realized that he hadn't blinked even once. during the whole conversation he had just sat there, not blinking or breathing. For a whole hour.

They looked at the front door, a sick feeling rising in their stomach as they made their way over. “Milton” made no move to stop them, just leaning back on the couch and crossing his legs with that familiar disarming smile. Malin gripped their self control with hands of iron composure, gulped, and opened the door.

……….

That was not Milton.]

They throw open the door, grab the real Milton and bolt, thoughts flashing between a reasonable “strange man broke into my house” to a maybe not as unreasonable as previously thought “Shape-shifters that want to steal our skin”

Of course, the mayor has unspeakable Eldritch power, so it's no chore for him to chase them both all over town and heard them into Milton’s manor. Once safely locked inside, cornered and terrified, The mayor explains to them that he’s from an alternate universe, answers their questions, assures them that he's not going to hurt them, basically waiting for them to stop panicking.

When the both of them calm down enough to make sense, he demands asks if he can stay with one of them until he can “find a way back to his universe”. he Just needs to rest here for a while “And then I’ll be out of your hair.” The threat behind his words Is crystal clear, and while Milton is sick with unease, Malin is confident in their ability to Handle This.

Milton takes Malin aside to discuss this with them

[”……. You have a plan, right?” “Milton, I appreciate your faith in me. But I'm not a miracle worker.” “Mal- come on. there has to be a way out of this.” “A wise man once said: Sometimes the way out isn't over, or around; but straight through.” “….I don't like this..” “If you're scared, he can stay at my house-” “No way.” “Then the only way out is..” Milton sighs, Malin pants him on the shoulder “We can rotate, I take him every other week.” “Mal I… I don't feel comfortable leaving you alone with this guy-”

“Every other week?” The Mayor interrupts from his spot on the other side of the room “That sounds like a great idea! That way, I can spend an equal amount of time with the both of you..”

They both take a moment to look at the man, standing well out of normal hearing range. Disquiet displayed on One, and determination emanating from the other “… Are you sure?” “Are you doubting my abilities?” “No- I'm worrying about your safety.” “I thought that was my job?” “Malin.” “I'll be fine, Milt. Just trust me.” Milton takes a breath “….. Always.]

And that was that. For the rest of the season the Mayor just kinda hangs out, helping around when he feels like it, advising them when they need it, being creepy when he thinks its funny, learning about their world. Malin’s just wondering when he'll get around to killing them.

Malin and Milton, go on to do their villain thing, plotting the downfall of “The Monkie Kids”.

A month before the main story, Malin discovered something that tied Sun Wukong to the death of their mother (its a long story), and has been waiting for an opportunity to do something about it ever since they found out.

Participating in his contest was a bust, so they move on to Constructing a plan around the annual Lunar New Year Music Deathmatch Tournament, Which Malin is certain The Monkie Kids will be participating in.

They plan to orchestrate a scenario that will allow them to confront Sun Wukong at the event; the result of said confrontation either being closure, or a domino effect that will defame Sun Wukong, destroy the main crew’s friendship, careers, and everything they’ve built; All the while boosting their own fame in one go.

Destiny, Fate, and inevitability is gonna be a big theme in this AU. In cannon, The Lady Bone Demon used the spider queen and her failure to kickstart her own conquest. This conquest causing the entire series to focus on her downfall.

And much of the same was supposed to happen in this alternate universe. Maybe not step for step and word for word, but the ultimate goal was congruent.

Spider queen’s crew would come back for vengeance. Malin would “assist” her, maneuvering her into a position that would briefly look like victory, a position that would place Sun Wukong within Malin's reach. Malin would confront him, and he would tell them that “Laura got herself killed.”

Outside events would prevent him from elaborating (he didn’t do it), and Malin would take that as a confession. In the wake of The Monkie Kids victory, The unfairness of it all would drive Malin to do everything in their power to take “The Monkie Kids” down, Ultimately resulting in their own defamation, abandonment, and eventual destruction.

But the introduction of the mayor had changed things.

Weirdly enough, the Mayor wasn't very secretive. Milton and Malin Didn't exactly know what they expected from an ancient, eldritch, space warping, gravity defying, scary as hell demon guy claiming to be an alternate universe version of one of them, but “being an open book” was absolutely not it.

He answered all of their questions, shared events that happened in his universe readily, and was more than happy to divulge information Malin couldn't even pry out of their own mother (when she was alive). Perhaps it was because nothing either of them could do would ever hurt him, Perhaps it was because he knew the both of them were too terrified of him to Inquire something that warranted more than a surface level explanation, perhaps he just didn't care, but the end result was the same.

One day before the Lunar New Year Music Deathmatch Tournament, Malin was standing in their living room, Watching the front of their house through the window. All of the arrangements had been made, the stage was set, And the show was ready to begin. All they were waiting for was a phone call from Milton, confirming that the last of the loose ends had been tied up.

The Mayor watched as well; He had been watching this whole time. This human was an interesting kind of dull. The way their eyes diligently snapped across every room showed their constant awareness of their surroundings. The intentional nature of their word and action, from the tiniest of gestures to the loudest of voices, spoke of iron self control. The extensive charts, lists, notes, and written observations on every being they have, are, and/or will ever meet demonstrates their borderline obsession with manipulation and control; however, the location in which they kept these documents exposes either simple civilian ineptitude, or a total lack of care for who might walk in and see it

[Opening the door, he was greeted with quite the spectacle. An entire room filled with documents and poster boards and conspiracy charts on every individual he had seen them interacting with, they even had one on him!

The war room isn't much of a surprise. It was true that Malin didn't look like the plotting and scheming type, but extensive interaction with them would at least clue one into their acute awareness of other people and their lives. In his eyes, it was a show of social competency; he was a little impressed with their attention to detail. But, Really? Above ground?? Just out in the open??? not even a lock on the door????).]

Malin was most like his lady, their mother, in the way that they approached the world. How they took it, struggling and fighting, into their merciless hands and gently shooshed it until it came to heel. They hungered for it’s salvation, and destruction in equal measure.

They would make a fine replacement.

It was in this moment that the Mayor decided to reveal to Malin what had happened to his version of her mother, Explaining every event, beginning to end, in full detail and leaving out nothing.

When Malin hears about their alternate mother’s plans, actions, and her subsequent downfall; and draws the parallels between those events and events in their life; They realize that they are very close to setting off a series of events that just might spell their own downfall… They stop, and they think.

Mayor expects his words to cause them to turn to him for help (trying to lure them into accepting his Eldritch power, warlock style) but is surprised when Malin instead calls Milton to cancel their dastardly plot.

[They get this… feeling in their chest. Like a chime ringing deep within their soul, and come to a decision. The phone rings for a moment, once again, and then three times. Milton’s voice filters through the speaker.

{”The arrangements have been made, we wait for your confirmation”}

“There has been a change of plans. Cancel the envoy, I’ll compete myself.”

The other end is quiet for a moment, Malin hears his silent confusion clear as day. One might worry for a seed of doubt using this moment to take root and sprout, but Malin knows better. At the end of the day, their friend beholds their word for gospel. It seems that this instance is no different.

{”Okay, Milton out.”}

The line goes dead, and Malin pulls the phone from their ear to look at the dark screen. They’re usually grateful for such a loyal and obedient ally; but they worry for him, sometimes.

”I’ve no reason to worry, you’re usually right about everything…”

they sigh, oh Milton..

Malin turns to face The Mayor, face set in concentration as a new plot began to blossom in their mind “I will not bend to the wheel of fate, nor will I fall as my mother has. As any version of her has. There is another way, There always is.”

Oh? A mote of anticipation rises alongside his surprise, the Mayor feels a familiar smile creep onto his face “Then what will you do?”

Malin looks back out the window, watching as Mk and his friend once again cut through their neighborhood; completely unaware of the jaws of death that always loomed nearby.

They turned back to him, looking over their shoulder as the light of a new idea shone through the crumbling cracks of the old one “I’m going to make some new friends.”

PLEASE do ramble more about Whumpee Macaque and LBD and Mayor as whumpers please please I am sitting with popcorn and begging you with Eyes.

I'm not in a coherent mood so this won't be connected but have a collection of unrelated thoughts. Mostly fanon/HCs (but not all!)

consider, if you will, if the mayor is the one that killed macaque and not wukong (and then LBD warped that memory)

Consider again, if you will, if the mayor was there to collect him when he was revived

continue considering mac needing to be trained after being revived. Has to learn to function half blind. Any long-term injuries he now needs to adapt to (in Core mac had to go from right to left handed because he can't SEE his right hand well anymore, but then first had to recover from the injury that destroyed his left shoulder. It was a long road). Balance being fucked up, lack of depth perception. Having to relearn how to fight with all that.

Needing a sparring partner, perhaps. Consider for me that the man who killed him "helps" him recover from it. Mac doesn't know this.

Consider the scar that killed him being really sensitive. The mayor knows exactly where it is. Can drop him in an instant.

Mayor constantly beating him down while "training" him to recovery. Mocking him, digging into the wound of wukong killing him. ("So weak, no wonder he discarded you.")

Mayor knowing mac uncomfortably well, and abusing this knowledge

LBD knowing mac uncomfortably well, but in a different way. Mayor knows mac's powers and scars and weaknesses, knows his body and how to bring him down, because he already has. LBD knows his mind, warped it and twisted it. Sifted through memories to twist them appropriately. Knows him inside and out.

At least one of them knew Mac liked theater, how else would the Mayor know to check a run down shadow play theater for him? What an odd place to look for a monkey who is, presumably, on the run from you.

I HC that the mayor has some sort of paralysis/freezing power - see Shadowplay where Mac just freezes when the mayor grabs him. Imagine the fun there :)

Mac is so genuinely terrified of LBD/his debt to her - that is his entire motivation in S3. It's not personal, sure he's mad at Wukong still, but that's not what drives him. Every time we see him, he talks about "being free of his debt". And in benched he is TERRIFIED of her, bargains the fire when she has him chained up, you can hear it in his voice. What has she done to him to earn that? We NEVER see Mac scared, even fighting possessed Wukong he's not scared. LBD instills a fear in him that we never see otherwise.

She seems able to cause psychic pain (the winning side - dragging mac through flashbacks we see him tense and frozen and then slumps when she lets him go)

Speaking of that scene, it opens with mac SCREAMING. We hear him scream before we see anything.

I can't not mention the ice covering. The time limit, the way that that is the most serious we ever see mac. That he knocks MK out to get him out of the way, threatens everyone's lives for it. She's put a timer on his head (we see the ice expand) and it HURTS. He keeps holding the arm covered in ice when he talks to Wukong, he stumbles. He's in pain and on a timer and panicking.

And, if you feel like indulging in AUs (as you all know I do) then LBD is a real fun whumper if you stick her and mac in a room for longer than they're shown in the show. @lotusmonkey and I have delved that particular rabbit hole MANY times it's one of my favorites.

Okay, yeah, I definitely agree with you about the mayor stuff. Macaque presumably doesn’t want to draw attention to himself by like. Blowing up the theatre defending himself (doesn’t want to draw MK back), and he was for sure caught off-guard. We frequently see Macaque perform at his best when he’s had time to scheme beforehand. (He beats MK and nearly Wukong in s1e9 because he planned the event and worked sneakily, and he only gets anywhere in Shadow Play because he first takes out MK’s friends, and then strikes where he knows it’ll hurt) I think he loses like, every on the fly fight he has, so… He might just not be cut out at all for sneak attacks lol

In this case, he wasn’t as vigilant as usual, and was taken in because of that. We know he still considers LBD dangerous despite escaping her before, so it’s not a big stretch to even just assume he got away before through trickery. He needed power to defend himself, but he also needs to stay aware of what’s actually going on on. And yeah, great point about JttW! I think considering the fact that we see even Wukong get overwhelmed by LBD in a straight fight, if the ""Mayor"" really wanted to, I think he probably could have also pulled the possession card, which definitely would have stopped Macaque. Macaque was entirely on LBD’s terms in that situation.

Chaos powers read to me, at least at the moment, as the kind of thing you can only fight with each other. Like, they easily overpower just about any other source, including stuff like Wukong’s basically limitless power, but if you attack someone with chaos powers with other chaos power, they’ll crumble. It reads as incredibly self-destructive, explaining why it hurt Macaque so much to use when he cuts off both him and NHD’s connection to chaos. They’re literally not of this universe, so of course the only things in the universe that can fight them would be these stuff literally built to keep the chaos at bay (the stones), and themself.

Also, something interesting I just thought of because of this, chaos powers being otherworldly makes them an unknown quantity. In other words, I think it’d be interesting to see how they’d stand up to something like LBD or the Samadhi Fire, because if no one knows about them, no one could have suggested them when they could have been relevant. I think proper chaos powers would probably be effective against LBD considering that she wants to control the universe, not beyond it. She also does talk about wanting to minimise chaos, but I think that’s probably in the kind of way MK thinks about chaos in s4. There is the point to be returned to about Macaque losing to her, but I feel like chaos maybe more fuels Macaque’s current power, rather than encompassing it, anyway. Also, there’s deals going on here, which could definitely affect what Macaque can and can’t do.

We know from the end of s3 that Macaque sees the Samadhi Fire as the only way to beat LBD. This tracks with him not understanding his deal with chaos until NHD brings it up, but it unfortunately doesn’t tell us much about chaos’ potential interactions with LBD or the Samadhi Fire. Like, Macaque submits to LBD because he knows he can’t win, or rather, if he could win, he doesn’t know it and thus assumes it’s impossible. We don’t see him even try to fight back directly against LBD until the s3 specials, and he starts by having to fight Wukong, who we know he can’t usually beat. He’s then too banged up to do too much in the actual group fight against LBD. I’d call this all pretty inconclusive.

With regards to the Samadhi Fire though, if you’ll allow me to put my tinfoil hat on, I think there’s potential for that to be effective against chaos. This is… more for meta reasons that anything, but hear me out. First, if the fire can literally burn up the entire known universe, why not the unknown outskirts of the universe too? It’s the ultimate wildfire – the only weakness it’s ever had is to the water of the southern sea in our JttW. As far as show canon goes, it doesn’t seem to be stoppable at all? If they could put it out, you’d think they’d have done that rather than sealing it. Also, they made a point to establish what actually is going on with the fire in s5, where it had previously been entirely absent in s4. Now this could just be to do something more with Mei, or because of backlash about it disappearing out of the story, but I do think it’s interesting that it’s back in the season where chaos is properly introduced. Maybe this is set-up? Idk, but I’d be interested to see how they both interact.

Tangent aside, with the brotherhood stuff, my personal take is that Macaque’s closest link to anyone int here as Wukong, but he was still there based on his own merit. It feels like. When you have a friend group, but one person on the edge of it is there because they’re friends with the guy that everyone else is friends with. Macaque clearly knows everyone else there, and has quite personal interactions with Peng, but he probably joined initially because of Wukong. I actually don’t know if we know whether Macaque was involved on the siege against heaven or not, but something got him killed by Wukong, so I think he probably at least took the intent to heart.

Also, with Peng, Macaque notes them as an incredibly skilled fighter (I guess more so in terms of raw skill than himself or Wukong?), but I would also say that they’re probably not on someone like Wukong’s power level. We don’t see any incredible feats of magic from them, but they’re still an incredibly dangerous foe. This definitely suggests that Macaque has to have something to compensate for lower level combat skills compared to Peng. Say… stronger power than he currently possesses. And Peng calls him the most cowardly of the bunch, not the weakest. (Something they both think of each other, regardless of skill level lol) I think if Macaque was notably weaker than everyone else, Peng definitely would have taunted him about it.

Macaque is, at the very least, definitely very skilled at presenting himself as stronger than he is. But I don’t think this kind of thing would work on the brotherhood, considering it doesn’t even work on LBD. He’s intelligent, and good at manipulation, we know this. But I also don’t think the thing that’s unreliable about his hero and warrior story is the part where he could stand up the Wukong. It’s his very emotional telling of events – he has no reason to lie about objective facts.

I think the symbolism of the sun and moon could suggest that he drew a lot of his strength from Wukong, but… Idk, I think that’s difficult to tangibly substantiate? Like if we tried to justify how that would work, it’s kinda just ??? You could maybe make the argument that this works because we see Macaque steal MK’s power, but Wukong was historically obsessed with power, so I doubt he’d let Macaque take it. And also, that would suggest that Wukong was weaker int eh past, which uh. Doesn’t really gel. I think it’s symbolism in so much as Macaque drew his motivation from Wukong, not his power. Macaque was who he was because of Wukong, but if they’d never met, he still would have been a powerful entity.

Macaque is an unreliable narrator in his framing of Wukong’s morality, and Wukong as a person. He never undermines Wukong’s strength, nor does he suggest that what happened was because he was dependent on Wukong physically. That dependence was emotional, and is why Macaque is desperate to tell his side of the story in the first place. To go back to the original section of this post, it’s going to be because Macaque is resurrected in the modern day, and see that his history with the great Monkey King was never even recorded. Once the hero left the warrior, he didn’t even bother telling his story, or so it seems.

You know what I just thought of tho? Why does nobody in the LMK universe know what happened to Macaque?

Becasue IRL we know it's Very likely that Wukong killed him (Or at the very least severely maimed him) in the show becasue we know the events of the Actual Real Life Book "Journey to the West". But we also know that the same book exists in the LMK universe since both Tang and Macaque himself have made reference to it. So like. Why isn't what happened to Macaque common knowledge?

MK apparently hasn't read it and never found out through any other means (we see him ask Macaque outright about it). Hell, Macaque is so unknown to him, MK gets deceived by him in the first season. But he does still know the stories becasue of media about it in the show universe (Monkey King the Animated Series tm) and from Tang who presumably did read the book, and while I can imagine an in universe show omitting something like their main character killing their bestie, I can't think of any reason why Tang wouldn't have told MK if Tang had known.

All that to basically say, yea MK apparently is lowkey uneducated outside of pop culture - which is really funny to me - but even their resident scholar seems to have no idea so what gives? Who the hell wrote Macaque out of the history books? Was it Wukong? Was he so guilt ridden and angry that he made sure that was the one major event that didn't get preserved? Was it some of the other original JTTW gang, knowing Wukong would hate the general public knowing anything about it? Those are literally the only two theories I can think of - and the first is the one that I think is most likely.

And on top of that, imagine how Macaque felt when he realized this. That his death and even existence at all was the one thing that wasn't remembered. Idk it's just a really interesting bit of accidental world building that I don't think will ever get explained, but it'd be really cool if it did.

Let me just. Go out on a limb… This will make no sense, but I AM THEORIZING: What about this AU of yours.

What if it’s about if LBD won. If she was able to erase the memory of Wukong. She erased him, essentially by sealing him into stone.

(You know, since he’s losing his powers at the end of s2… she probably did the same thing here. We theorized that he would turn to stone, because he was born from a stone.)

So she stores him in this nice garden…

And Macaque, he got caught by her and is sadly brainwashed, but he remembers fragments of his original life, that he knows something important lies in the garden.. someone.

Up comes MK, who was not with the good guys previously because this is an AU and anything is possible.

MK gets into garden, (probably) courtesy of Macaque. Good job, Macaque.

And then it cuts to the fic.

Imagine afterwards as MK is on Wukong’s side, if no one knows who Wukong is because of this. They have to work to reverse LBD’s memory reversing. And then beat up LBD cause she’s poopy.

Well... Well... Well...

I cannot help but indulge in answering this.

I like to think that if Mayor and Macaque were to somehow how get on good terms again, and actually somehow start dating, they would end up regularly giving gifts to each other.

And by that I basically mean they try to constantly one up each other.

Giving gifts and trying to make it more meaningful and more significant and more extravagant from the one the other hand gave them before. It's a brutal battle that both of them know neither can win. Regardless, they tend to go wild.

At some point, over the years as their relationship develops, they will indeed talk about marriage. Neither of them want to just propose out of the blue. And so both of them agree that the idea of marriage is nice. Because both of them are quite keen on having a ceremony to celebrate the two of them and only the two of them (but it's just mostly Macaque that thought that way. Because he likes the attention. Mayor on the other hand just wants to go wild with planning the wedding).

Now, that's just the establishing information.

The proposal actually happens when Mayor finally decided to buy a ring and pop the question. The 'ultimate gift' if you will. One to top all others and undoubtedly win the little compitition that had lasted for years.

And so on a date night (the setting is up to you), Mayor simply hands Macaque the ring box, and say it's a gift.

Macaque, the dumbass he is, accepts it carelessly and thinks that it's going to be a dumb gift inside the small box. One that would make him laugh. Probably a silly looking enamel pin or, a weird toy that Mayor found at the dollar store that they thought Macaque would find amusing.

And then Macaque opens it and sees the ring.

And then Mayor goes down on one knee and pops the question, amongst lots of frilly words to butter Macaque up. And guess what? Macaque says yes. Why wouldn't he?

How the wedding plays out is up to you to imagine.

But anyways, are they really going to get married though? Perhaps those two aren't actually the type to actually get married through human mortal customs. In fact...

Demonic mates are still an option, right?
