Jack and Katie Nelson end up meeting Rose and Samuel Coldwell after getting arrested for the same crime in the same neighborhood

When Jack and Katie decided to track down his father, whom not even his elder half-brother knew, they didn’t think they’d end up in London.

Eva had come on business and while she did what she came here for, Jack had called Katie, who was visiting Colin’s family here, and went pub crawling for old time’s sake.

He should’ve known it was a bad idea when, despite being busy with vlogging everything they did, his sister managed to find his dad’s address. Katie was white girl wasted by now and Jack had reached that point of fuck it we ball moment of the night.

Jack had gotten a bottle of Bushmills Whiskey for the road somehow remembering that was his dad’s favorite drink when Eamon O’Neil met Rosemary Nelson during graduate school.

When they found the nice house empty and showing signs of a happy upper middle-class family it brought up all those times his mother struggled to raise him and his sister and all those times he could’ve used a fucking dad.

“Fuck him! Fuck that guy, you don’t need him, Jack. You hear me!” Katie pulls him down to her height as she assures him that his father doesn’t deserve to even know him.

And suddenly the ribbon in Katie’s blonde hair is shoved half ways into the bottle they were sharing at the curb and the lighter he kept from that day he met Eva in Vegas is in his hand.

The Instagram video has him tossing a Molotov cocktail prefaced with the words, “Fuck you!”. An iconic moment followed by him angrily ranting at the security camera closest to him about how Eamon O’Neil was a piece of shit who abandoned two pregnant women in Boston during his time at MIT.

In the same neighborhood, Rose and her brother had done the same to the house of Samuel Coldwell.

They are put in the same cell and nature takes its course.

Katie leads the way, always the funny charming one who knows how not to step on people’s toes while Jack has the subtlety of Godzilla trampling Tokyo. But with a few drinks in, a shared hatred of their absent fathers and being in here for the same crime two Irish Catholics and two English Jews become unlikely friends.

“Yeah, Jack can make molotov cocktails because he w---” Jack using his sister’s drunk state and his greater height to successfully put his hand over her mouth to prevent her revealing where his skills came from.

“Huge fan of the Good Place.” He says with a laugh that works good enough for the two women who end up changing the topic while Sam Coldwell silently agrees to keep his secret.

He’d been in a gang until he got too good at it and pissed off the leader causing him to end up in fucking Melbourne, Australia to avoid prison. Luckily there had been no proof and Jack was able to return with a masters in finance and a short but lucrative career as a webcam model.

Now he had graduated from Harvard Business College, gotten the investment firm off the ground to great success and would marry the love of his life if she could just get here to bail them out.

“Do you guys need any help getting bailed out, my girl says she doesn’t mind.” He offers after the phone call goes well enough.

“My brother-in-law is already coming, thanks for the offer.” Sam rejects the offer, and both guide their sisters ---who are tearfully bidding each other farewell and exchanging numbers as jumbled as they come out their mouths--- out of their cells.

Jack finds Eva chatting amicably with what he presumed is Rose’s husband and greets his future wife with a short kiss and threw his arm over her shoulder before asking, “How do you guys know each other?”

“We fucked the same guy.” Evie answered far too casually as she led them out the station and into Colin’s car.

We’ve spent a solid year higher than 1.5 degrees Celsius; we’re wiping out species at a rate of somewhere between 10,000 and 100,000 annually; insect populations are crashing; and we’re losing the West Antarctic Ice Sheet, no matter what we do at this point. And we’re expecting the exhaustion of all arable land around 2050, which is actually kind of moot because studies from institutions as variable as MIT and the University of Melbourne suggest that global civilizational collapse is going to happen starting around 2040 or 2050. 

The Collapse Is Coming. Will Humanity Adapt?

Call it Apocalypse 2040.

In the early 1970s, a computer program called World1 predicted that civilization would likely collapse by 2040. Researchers from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) had programmed it to consider a model of sustainability for the world.

The prediction has resurfaced because Australian broadcaster ABC recirculated a 1973 newscast about the computer program. The program's findings, however, never really went away, as its results have been re-evaluated over the nearly 50 years since they first appeared.

The bad news for us is that the model seems to be spot-on so far.

The computer model was commissioned by the Club of Rome, a group of scientists, industrialists and government officials focused on solving the world's problems. The organization wanted to know how well the world could sustain its rate of growth based on information that was available at the time. World1 was developed by Jay Forrester, the father of system dynamics, a methodology for understanding how complex systems operate.

When deciding the fate of civilization, the program considered several variables, including pollution levels, population growth, the availability of natural resources and global quality of life. These factors were considered in tandem with one another as opposed to separately, following the Club of Rome's perspective that the world's problems are interconnected.

Such an approach was novel in the 1970s, even if the forecast World1 produced wasn't intended to be "precise." The program produced graphs that demonstrated what would happen to those metrics in the future, without even accounting for things like climate change. The graphs all indicated a downward trajectory for the planet.

According to the 1973 ABC segment, World1 identified 2020 as a tipping point for civilization.

"At around 2020, the condition of the planet becomes highly critical. If we do nothing about it, the quality of life goes down to zero. Pollution becomes so seriously it will start to kill people, which in turn will cause the population to diminish, lower than it was in the 1900. At this stage, around 2040 to 2050, civilized life as we know it on this planet will cease to exist."

This was not the end of the model. In 1972, the Club of Rome published "The Limits to Growth," a book that built off the work of World1 with a program called World3, developed by scientists Donella and Dennis Meadows and a team of researchers. This time the variables were population, food production, industrialization, pollution and consumption of nonrenewable natural resources.

"The Limits to Growth" pushed the collapse of civilization to 2072, when the limits of growth would be the most readily apparent and result in population and industrial declines.

Criticism of the book was nearly immediate, and harsh. The New York Times, for instance, wrote, "Its imposing apparatus of computer technology and systems jargon ... takes arbitrary assumptions, shakes them up and comes out with arbitrary conclusions that have the ring of science," concluding that the book was "empty and misleading."

Others argued that the book's view of what constitutes a resource could change over time, leaving their data shortsighted to any possible changes in consumption habits.

The tide for the book's finds have changed over time, however. In 2014, Graham Turner, then a research fellow at the University Melbourne's Melbourne Sustainable Society Institute, collected data from various agencies within the United Nations, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and other outlets, plotting their data alongside the findings of the World3 model.

What Turner found that was that the World3 model and then-current statistical information tended to coincide with another, up to 2010, indicating that the World3 model was onto something. Turner cautioned that the validation of World3's model didn't indicate "agreement" with it, largely due to certain parameters within the World3 model. Still, Turner argued that we were likely on "cusp of collapse" thanks to a few different factors, in particular what Turner called the end of peak easy oil access.

Writing in The Guardian, Turner and Cathy Alexander, a Melbourne-based journalist, explained that neither the World3 model or Turner's own confirmation of it signaled that the collapse was a guarantee.

"Our research does not indicate that collapse of the world economy, environment and population is a certainty," they wrote. "Nor do we claim the future will unfold exactly as the MIT researchers predicted back in 1972. Wars could break out; so could genuine global environmental leadership. Either could dramatically affect the trajectory.

"But our findings should sound an alarm bell. It seems unlikely that the quest for ever-increasing growth can continue unchecked to 2100 without causing serious negative effects – and those effects might come sooner than we think."

Mit 26 Grad Sonnenbrand.

Tolle Menschen, freundlich und kontaktfreudig.

"Victoria" mit Jenna Coleman: Britisches Historiendrama feiert späte (deutsche) Free-TV-Premiere

Ein britisches Historiendrama kommt mit einiger Verspätung zu seiner deutschen Free-TV-Premiere - dafür aber geballt: Der ARD-Spartensender One hat sich die Rechte an der Serie  "Victoria" mit Jenna Coleman in der Titelrolle gesichert. Alle drei zwischen 2016 und 2019 produzierten Staffeln werden innerhalb eines Wochenendes als Marathon ausgestrahlt.

Am Samstag, den 20. April beginnt One um 13.40 Uhr mit der Ausstrahlung der ersten Staffel und zeigt bis 20.15 Uhr alle acht Folgen am Stück. Am Sonntag, den 21. April geht es dann ab 12.25 Uhr weiter mit den acht Folgen der zweiten Staffel sowie dem Weihnachtsspecial "Das Fest der Liebe" um 18.45 Uhr. Die dritte und letzte Staffel zeigt One wiederum mitten in der Nacht vom 21. auf den 22. April: Von 23.15 Uhr bis 5.25 Uhr werden die restlichen acht Episoden zu sehen sein. Die gesamte Serie wird im Zweikanalton, also in der deutschen Synchronfassung und im englischen Originalton, gesendet. Am 23. April beginnt One dann, die Serie noch einmal im wöchentlichen Rhythmus zu zeigen. Jeweils dienstags ab 20.15 Uhr werden drei Folgen am Stück gesendet.

Die Serie zeigt Victorias Weg von der Übernahme des Throns im Alter von nur 18 Jahren im Jahre 1837 bis hin zu ihrer Ehe mit Prinz Albert. Dabei stehen vor allem die Schwierigkeiten im Vordergrund, mit denen sich die junge und noch gänzlich unerfahrene Königin auseinandersetzen muss. Rufus Sewell spielt Lord Melbourne, den ersten Premierminister unter Victorias Herrschaft. Zwischen den beiden bildete sich eine intime Freundschaft, die stets durch zahlreiche Gerüchte begleitet wurde und sogar drohte, Victorias Herrschaft infrage zu stellen.

In Großbritannien schlug sich "Victoria" ordentlich. Die Auftaktstaffel war mit durchschnittlich 7,7 Millionen Zuschauern und einem Marktanteil von 29,7 Prozent ein voller Erfolg. Die zweite Staffel fiel leicht ab, kam aber immer noch auf 6,5 Millionen Zuschauer. Die dritte Staffel holte dann im Schnitt 5,5 Millionen Zuschauer. Diese endet mit der von Prinz Albert organisierten Weltausstellung von 1851. Eigentlich war angedacht, in der Serie die gesamte Regierungszeit von Königin Victoria in sechs Staffeln zu erzählen, wofür dann in den späteren Jahren eine andere Hauptdarstellerin besetzt werden sollte. Melbourne, Phillip Island, Wilsons Prom og Melbourne igen

Efter turen på GOR tog Brita, Chiara og jeg nu til Melbourne. Australiens svar på en europæisk hovedstad. Jeg havde glædet mig meget til at opleve byen, da hverken Brisbane eller Sydney som by havde sagt mig helt vildt meget. Områderne omkring de to byen er virkelig fede, men selve byerne og bylivet var ikke helt min smag. Heldigvis viste Melbourne sig at være mere mig!

Byen er propfyldt med graffiti og kunst i de små gyder omrking de store gader. Det er så fedt at gå rundt i bylivet og opdage de mange farver og former. Derudover er Melbourne og selvdøbt kaffehovedstad, og har måske den bedste kaffe i hele verden. Dette skulle da komme an på en prøve, og jeg blev virkelig godt overrasket. Kaffen smager helt fantastisk. Jeg tager hatten af.

Her i byen fik vi spist en masse forskelligt mad også, og det har alt sammen smagt helt vildt godt. Vi fik også danset lidt og drukket billige øl på Workers Club som havde et mandags tilbud, hvor man kunne få en fadøl til 4 dollar. Det er altså meget billigere end de vanlige 10-18 dollar vi må give for fadøl her Down Under. Rigtig dejlig tip fra Eva :)))

Brita skulle desværre rejse hjem om morgenen d 20. december, så efter tre dagen i Australiens største by (den har lige overgået Sydney), måtte Chiara og jeg tage afsked med hende. Det var en hård morgen, da Brita jo var hende jeg delte værelse med i Brisbane, og derfor har været en stor del af mit udvekslingsophold. Jeg var meget glad for, at jeg fik lov til at dele oplevelsen af GOR og Melbourne med hende <3

Chiara og jeg tjekkede også ud af vores hostel i Melbourne d 20. december og kørte ud af byen. Vi ville nemlig gerne bruge noget mere tid i den flotte natur, der også omringer Melbourne. Og heldigvis havde vi vejret med os denne gang!

Vi fik kørt til Phillip Island der ligger ca 2 timer øst fra Melbourne. Det var egentlig en meget spontan beslutning at tage dertil, da vi bare så et vejskilt med Phillip Island på, hvorefter Chiara sagde hun vidst nok havde læst om den ø et sted. Det viste sig så, at Chiara havde læst at man kunne se pingviner på denne ø. Vi kørte dertil uden de store forventinger, og med håbet om måske at spotte en pingvin eller to. Jeg kan bare love jer for, at vi fik en på opleveren. Dette er måske en af de mest fantastiske (små)øer jeg nogensinde har besøgt. Vi fik både set helt vildt flot natur og så mange forskellige dyr! Der var grå gæs med gulgrønne næb, sorte pletter på ryggen, røde ben og sorte fødder. Der var mørkebrune wallabies med hvide striber i hovedet og en hvidplettet hale. Også var der de blå pingviner. De mindste pingviner i hele verdenen. Og ej hvor var de bare søde! Det var de samme pingviner som jeg så på Tasmanien, men denne gang fik jeg set dem i dagslys og meget tættere på. Det var så fedt! Chiara og jeg var begge helt oppe og køre over øen. Fordi den gjorde så stort indtryk på mig, fik jeg også lige lavet en lille video af den, som jeg lagde på instagram.

Efter to dage på Phillip Island kørte vi videre øst på til Wilsons Promontory eller bare Wilsons Prom. Dette var også en virkelig flot nationalpark med bjerge lige ud til kysten. Her fik vi gået en masse ture, og fik set en helt masse wallabies. De var virkelig overalt. Vi sov på en campingplads lige udenfor nationalparken, da den inde i parken var fuldt booket, hvilket viste sig at være en "blessing in disguise". På denne campingplads fik vi nemlig anbefalet at se solnedgangen nede ved stranden. Da vi sad og så på solnedgang kunne jeg pludselig se nogle underlige finne lignende ting ploppe op og ned i vandet. Altid i par. Jeg måtte ud og se, hvad det var, da jeg havde en ide om, at det måske kunne være rokker. Og det viste sig sørme at være rigtigt! I det lave vand lige op af kysten svømmede der så mange rokker. Og de var så tæt på kysten at man kunne gå ud og se dem. Der stod Chiara og jeg altså, og så på solnedgangen over vandet 1 meter fra en kæmpe rokke, der svømmede lige så stille rundt. Vi var så tæt på, at vi kunne se dens øjne og dens mønster på ryggen. Det var helt vildt magisk. Og for det ikke er løgn, svømmede der selvfølgelig også lige to pelikaner rundt i baggrunden af denne helt utrolige "scene". Det var nok den smukkeste solnedgang jeg har set i mit liv.

D 23. december kørte vi tilbage til Wilsons prom og gik lidt flere ture. Derefter kørte vi igen mod Melbourne, da Chiaras lillesøster landede i Melbourne lufthavn d 24. kl 10. Vi fandt en resteplads at sove på, og kørte afsted om morgenen d 24. for at hente Chiaras lillesøster.

Efter nogle store kram og lidt tåre, kørte vi med Chiaras lillesøster tilbage til det hostel, vi også boede på sidste gang vi var i Melbourne. Her læssede vi alle vores ting af, også fik vi gået lidt rundt i byen. Da det var ved at blive aften, tog vi lidt fint tøj på, for at gp ud og spise en lækker "jule"middag. Vi fik mexicansk mad til juleaften, og det var vildt godt! Efter aftensmad tog vi tilbage på vores hostel, hvor Chiaras søster gik i seng, efter en laaang rejsedag. Chiara og jeg tog ned til hostellets bar, hvor vi fik lidt øl og sang karaoke. Virkelig sjovt! Her fik vi en gratis entree til en klub, der holdte juleaften fest, hvor vi tog hen med en franskmand vi havde mødt i baren. Vi var på klubben i lang tid og festede og dansede og hyggede os rigtig meget. Det var en lidt vild juleaften, og også lidt underlig, men det var sku også virkelig sjovt. Jeg hyggede mig virkelig meget med Chiara og vi grinte og dansede helt vildt meget.

Dagen efter ville Chiara rigtig gerne vise sin søster den fedeste ø i verden aka Phillip Island, så vi kørte dertil for en dagstur. Denne tur var ikke helt lige så fed som vores, da det regnede hele dagen, og altså ikke var så sjovt at være ude og gå tur. Vi fik dog set de seje dyr, og fik endda også set et par pingviner.

D 26. december gik vi rundt i Melbourne og fik set lidt mere af byen. Vi tog også sporvognen til St Kilda havn, hvor vi så indgangen til Luna Park, der er omringet af det mest skræmmende hovede. Men fedt at se. Derefter tog vi hjem igen, hvor jeg brugte resten af dagen på hostel, på at slappe af og se lidt netflix. Jeg er meget bombet på oplevelser lige nu, og har brug for lidt ro i min hjerne, inden jeg skal bruge en måned med oplevelser i New Zealand. Om aftenen spiste vi allesammen aftensmad sammen på vores hostel.

Her d 27. om morgenen tog Chiara og Leo afsted fra Melbourne, da de nu begynder deres roadtrip tilbage til Brisbane. Dette var altså mit farvel til Chiara. Endnu en virkelig hård farvel, da Chiara også har betydet virkelig meget for min udvekslings. Heldigvis bor hun i Østrig, så jeg skal da nok få set hende igen om ikke alt for længe <33

De næste tre dage, fra d 27. til d 29., er jeg i Melbourne alene. Disse dage vil jeg bruge på at slappe af og pakke alle mine ting ordentligt sammen, inden jeg flyver til New Zealand for at mødes med Mikkel. Det glæder jeg mig bare så meget til!!

Um 4:30 Uhr war die Nacht vorbei. An Schlaf nicht mehr zu denken. Der Magen knurrt.

Shit, wir haben uns doch erst für 10 Uhr zum frühstücken verabredet.. okay dann hauen wir uns halt nochmal aufs Ohr und versuchen erneut zu schlafen. Aber keine Chance. Um ca 7 Uhr haben wir uns auf den Weg in die Stadt gemacht, um was zu Essen zu holen.

Mit Toast, Käse, Obst, Gemüse und Kinderbesteck bewaffnet ging’s zurück ins Zimmer. Jetzt wird erstmal geschmaust #yummi

Als auch die anderen beiden wach wurden und ebenfalls gefrühstückt hatten, zogen wir los durch Melbourne. Wir hatten in der Zwischenzeit noch ein Nickerchen gemacht #nawenndasmalkeinFehlerwar

Als erstes ging es Richtung Flinder Street. Die Gebäude haben uns beim letzten Besuch schon so gut gefallen. Dort ist auch ein bisschen Weihnachtsstimmung. 🎄✨

Haben sogar mal in die St Paul's Cathedral reingelinst, aber Kirchen sind nicht so unser Ding. Auf zur Hosier Lane, mit lauter Graffiti an den Wänden. Doch leider nur noch ein „Geschmier“. Da hat sich die letzten Jahre doch einiges geändert… sehr Schade.

Aber das trübte unsere Laune nicht! Auf der Suche nach der richtigen Tram - hier kann man nämlich einen gewissen Bereich kostenlos fahren - sind wir an einer Haltestelle gelandet. Ihr ahnt bestimmt was jetzt kommt. Jaaaa, vielleicht sind wir einfach ganz naiv eingestiegen und dachten wir kommen so zur nächsten Haltestelle. Mmmmh, der Plan war gar nicht mal so schlecht, bis folgende Durchsage kam „Sie verlassen nun die kostenfreie Zone“. Upsi.

Egal, einfach die nächste raus und zurücklaufen. #isnichweit 🏃‍♀️🏃

Weit und breit keine Spur von der richtigen Tram. Daher ging’s zu Fuß weiter am Parliament House vorbei, Richtung Royal Exhibition Building. Wow, so schön! Hier war auch gerade eine Abschlussfeier. 🎓

Zur Pipipause ging’s kurz in eine Uni. Wir überquerten die Straße und gingen in die Bibliothek: State Library of Victoria. Wahnsinnig beeindruckend!

Zum Abendessen ging’s nach Chinatown. 🇨🇳 Wir haben das erste Mal Ramen gegessen. Hat nur Steffen geschmeckt, für uns eher eine 2/10.

Puuuuh, unzählige Schritte und km später ging’s zurück zum Hotel, ein bisschen die nächsten Tage planen und dann ab ins Bett. 😴

Der letzte Tag in Down Under

Erst einmal entschuldigt die Sendepause gestern. Hier war verdammt schlechtes Wetter in Melbourne, sodass wir uns kaum aus der Wohnung bewegt haben. Nur Ulla, Dennis und Sarah haben sich aufgeopfert unser Mietbrummi wegzubringen und Nachmittags sind Ulla, Jana und Lea auch nochmal kurz durch die Stadt geschlendert. Heute wurde das Sightseeing aber dann nachgeholt und wir haben alle Spots die man in Melbourne gesehen haben muss abgeklappert. Leider war das Wetter bis auf Abends jetzt immer noch ziemlich bescheiden, was Melbourne leider nicht von seiner besten Seite gezeigt hat. Aber trotzdem waren wir am Hafen, dem Fédération Square, was das kulturelle Zentrum Melbournes ist mit dem Theater, Ballet und vielen weiteren kulturellen Einrichtungen. Außerdem der Landesbibliothek des Bundeslandes Victoria und der Central Station. Was man Melbourne wirklich zu gute halten muss ist, dass man im Stadtzentrum überall kostenlos Bahnfahren kann. Man hat also alle Stopps relativ schnell abgehakt und kann sich entspannt alle Ecken angucken. Grundsätzlich ist Melbourne eine super multikulturell und kreative Stadt, die für ihre Kunstszene bekannt ist. Das merkt man auch direkt an den Menschen und den Graffiti, die überall in der Stadt verteilt sind. Unser letzter Halt war dann am botanischen Garten wo wir noch auf den Balkon des Shrine of Remembrance hochgelatscht sind und einen schönen Blick auf die Melbourne Skyline erhaschen konnten. Auf dem Rückweg haben wir Naschkatzen uns auch noch eine Kleinigkeit gegönnt, weil das Bargeld musste ja weg.. ;) Dann ging es aber jetzt auch schon das letzte Mal Souvenirs einkaufen, Koffer packen und alles aufessen was sich so in den letzten Wochen im Kühlschrank angesammelt hat. Und morgen heißt es schon „Bye bye Australia. See ya“.

Chillen in Cairns

Wir schlafen alle vier tief und fest. Wenn man mal kurz wach ist, hört man fröhliche Kinderreime aus der Kinderbetreuung neben an oder das Rauschen der Palmen im Wind. Erst gegen 10.30 Uhr sind langsam alle wach. Es gibt Tee, Kaffee und Kekse in der Sonne. Irgendwie sind wir platt, kein Wunder, Kilian trackt die Schritt und kommt irgendwie auf mindestens 60 Kilometer in den vergangenen Tagen.

Wichtiger Programmpunkt: Wäsche waschen. Wir bummeln gemütlich zu einem Supermarkt in der Nähe, der immerhin eine Basisausstattung . Es gibt Eier und Speck, Louisa wagt sich danach in den kalten Pool, Nicole hält immerhin die Füße ins Wasser. Der Anlage haftet etwas von Mallorca-Urlaub an, gleichzeitig ist es unglaublich idyllisch hier. Dass man in Australien ist, merkt man daran, dass plötzlich eine Art Truthahn durchs Bild läuft.

Da wir noch keinen Mietwagen haben, fahren wir mit dem Bus in die Stadt. An der Haltestelle spricht uns ein sehr betagter älterer Herr an - auf Deutsch! 1956 wollte er eigentlich nur zur ersten Olympiade in der südlichen Hemisphäre nach Melbourne, doch dann hatte ihn der Bischof von Brisbane als Missionar nach Papua Neuguinea geschickt. In der ehemaligen deutschen Kolonie arbeitete er dann mit einem deutschen Bischof und vielen deutschen Nonnen zusammen. Im Bus selbst wiederum nimmt ein Mitglied der Aborigines Kontakt auf, leider in schwerst verständichem Englisch. Er verabschiedet sich in Richtung Nicole mit "Ich habe dich schon einmal gesehen" - wer sich jemals mit der sehr komplexen Glaubens und Geisteswelt der Einheimischen befasst hat, weiß: Da gibt es nix zu widersprechen. Was wissen wir denn schon.

Sehr kurios gestaltet sich der Kauf von zwei Telefonkarten beim Großanbieter Telstra: Nicole und Gerald müssen sie selbst reinmontieren, sich selbst anmelden etc. Der Verkäufer steht nur dekorativ im Raum rum. Immerhin hat er den Tipp, dass wir uns mit der deutschen Passnummer unter "Niederlande" (!!) anmelden müssen - tatsächlich, dann klappt es. PIN oder PUK gibt es keine. Danach bekommt Kilian eine Karte bei Vodafone - und muss am Schluss nichts machen, außer die Karten einzulegen. Puk und Pin sind inklusive.

Nochmal Bummel an der Esplanade, zu einem unfassbar fotogenem Sonnenuntergang. Die BBQ-Stände, die überall kostenlos herumstehen (samt kostelńlosem Trinkwasser, samt sauberen Toilettenhäuschen ....) sind belegt. Das Public Viewing der Frauen -Wm beginnt, wenn auch in kleiner Runde. Nach etwas anstehen bekommen wir eine Pizza und laufen wieder nach Hause.

Die Aussies sind weiterhin so gechillt und freundlich, wie wir es schon kannten. Bei, Aussteigen aus dem Bus bedankt man sich beim Fahrer für die Fahrt und sagt Tschüss. An der Kasse sagt die Kassiererin "Habt einen schönen Tag - nein, habt einen WUNDERBAREN Tag". Davon ein kleines bisschen was in den Koffer packen ....

Staatliche Willkür wie in "1984"

Gestern am 1. Donnerstag im Monat, wie auch an jedem 3. Donnerstag im Monat, fand wieder eine Mahnwache für den seit 14 Jahren seiner Freiheit beraubten Journalisten Julian Assange statt. Viele Jahre im Botschaftsasyl und jetzt seit mehr als 3 Jahren in einem britischen Hochsicherheitsgefängnis lebt er, ohne dass gegen ihn Anklage erhoben wurde - das ist staatliche Willkür die an Georges Orwells Buch "1984" erinnert.

Nebenbemerkung: Nicht nur seine Behandlung, auch der Umgang mit anderen politischen Meinungen, wie nach der großen Friedensdemo vom letzten Samstag erinnert an "1984". Anstatt über Inhalte zu reden, muss man sich erklären "ob nicht-Anwesende hätten anwesend sein dürfen". Auch der Orwellsche "Neusprech" hat Eingang in die poltischen Strulturen gefunden: EU-Chefdiplomat Josep Borrell hat eine weitere Milliarde aus dem "EU-Friedensfond" für Waffenkäufe für die Ukraine gefordert - also "Krieg ist Frieden".

Deshalb ist unabhängiger Jounalismus und deshalb sind Whistleblower so wichtig! Presse- und Meinungsfreiheit als Grundlage für Demokratie und Frieden!

Melbourne 11.11.22

Footmarkt, Streetart und Streetfoodfestival.

Heute schlafe ich etwas aus, plane meine Busfahrt und gehe ein wenig die Stadt erkunden. Ich gehe durch die Straßen, zum Markt und kaufe ein Haufen Obst und Gemüse für die Tour morgen ein. Hier fühle ich mich wieder wie in Asien. Marktschreier die kein Mensch versteht, wollen dir ihre Wahre um jeden Preis verkaufen. Dann sind da noch die Fisch und Fleischtheken, ich bin spät dran und sehe wie die Theken geputzt werden. Ach das freut mein Hygieneliebendes Herz, das in den letzten Wochen in Asien nur wenig zu lachen hatte 😂 und so entschließe ich hier nicht mehr unbedingt Vegetarier zu sein. (Es gibt hier sowieso nur wenig Ersatzprodukte oder vegetarische Gerichte. Schon spannend, aber mir scheint Deutschland wirklich ein Paradies für Vegis zu sein.)

Am Abend gehen John und ich japanisch essen und anschließend auf ein Streetfoodfestival (dass es ein streetfood Festival ist wird uns erst später klar😂 und so bereuen wir es bei dem Japaner eingekehrt zu haben). Super schöne Location mit tausenden von Ständen und Sitzmöglichkeiten. Richtig schönes Ambiente. Und John erklärt mir die wahre Bedeutung des Melbourners Eifeltowers der etwas mit dem besten Stück von Kolumbus zutun hat. (Glaubt mir nicht alles😂). Wir trinken den wiederlichsten Cocktail der Welt für 17 Dollar pro Kopf (contreau, Martini, Limonensaft, Salzrand und bei ihm ein schluck Tabasko) und laufen Nachts durch die Straßen zurück und unterhalten uns über die Wichtigkeit der gekauften uniklo (Kaufhausname)- Jacke😂, um die ich an dieser Stelle sehr dankbar bin, da sie so die Hände gut warmhalten kann, bei dem ganzen Wind.

Peter Watts: In this corner, the biosphere. We’ve spent a solid year higher than 1.5 degrees Celsius; we’re wiping out species at a rate of somewhere between 10,000 and 100,000 annually; insect populations are crashing; and we’re losing the West Antarctic Ice Sheet, no matter what we do at this point. Alaskapox has just claimed its first human victim, and there are over 15,000 zoonoses expected to pop up their heads and take a bite out of our asses by the end of the century. And we’re expecting the exhaustion of all arable land around 2050, which is actually kind of moot because studies from institutions as variable as MIT and the University of Melbourne suggest that global civilizational collapse is going to happen starting around 2040 or 2050.

In response to all of this, the last COP was held in a petrostate and was presided over by the CEO of an oil company; the next COP is pretty much the same thing. We’re headed for the cliff, and not only have we not hit the brakes yet, we still have our foot on the gas.
