Let's talk about 優鮮沛 today....

優鮮沛 yōu xiān pèi =Ocean Spray®....(yes the cranberry company.) Beside sounding like its original English name, 優 = exceptional 鮮 = fresh 沛 = plentiful...

鮮 is always a fun word to pick apart because it is a fish 魚 yú + a goat 羊 yáng which are two kinds of meat that STINK when it ISN'T FRESH. Both 魚 & 羊 are radicals, but radical for 鮮 is 魚 yú. 羊 is considered an elegant food for the higher class back in ancient China, so big goat is beautiful (羊+大dà =美 měi) goat speak is kind (羊+言yán =善shàn) goat food is to raise (羊+食shí =養yǎng)

沛 has a water radical, so we know this plentiful has something to do with WATER, which makes it the perfect word for the name of a juice cmopany, does it not?

蔓越莓 màn yuè méi is cranberries. Now, when I was little they were called 小紅莓 xiǎo gōng méi (lit. little red berry) or 越橘莓 yuè jú méi, where 越橘 is the genus of cranberry (vaccinium). I still recall being 7 years old and drinking a juice box of cranberry juice that says 小紅莓. 蔓 comes from 藤蔓 téng màn which means vines, because cranberries grows on shrubs or vines.

I believe 越橘 is now the Chinese for Lingoberry but... not many people think about this word unless you were at IKEA. As for 小紅莓? It's the name for the Irish band. The Cranberries is 小紅莓合唱團 xiǎo gōng méi hé chàng tuán. It bugs me that they call bands 合唱團. Because 合唱團 means choir. The Go-Go's are called 加油合唱團. KISS = 接吻合唱團. The Doors= 門戶合唱團 Smash Mouth=破嘴合唱團

加油 jiā yóu = (v. to cheer for someone) 接吻 jiē wěn (v. to kiss) 門戶 mén hù (n. the main entrance/door) 破嘴 pò zuǐ (lit. broken mouth)

Increasing global demand means sushi populations are being overfished.
