the sandra lynn / fig conversation is driving me Insane. fig saying that sometimes she doesn’t wanna exist as herself at all…not wanting to ask her friends how they see her (because she’s afraid to hear their response) saying that to someone she is a monster and she Cannot stop thinking about it. sandra lynn starting the conversation saying she needs to step up but is also simultaneously taken aback about what fig expresses and doesn’t know how to responds to it and suggests getting ice cream. sandra lynn saying “convincing people they deserve good things is really tough” talking about herself but how it also reflects fig. insane!!

the OIAR is coffee centered, but celia drinks tea, because she does not belong there, she's from Somewhere Else

ALSOO lets talk about what alicia's thoughts are here as she's looking at him,,, she says smth along the lines of "ur interesting to me bc i cant figure u out,,," and i love that a lot,,, maybe im looking too far into this but i read this as her saying "im seeing pieces of who u really are, i want to figure u out / explore ur true and honest self". she's learning more abt the side of lloyd thats empathetic, thats selfless, that brings out a good outcome for everyone,,,, she wants to see more of that side of him methinks,,,,, regardless of what she actually meant by this, it's a very cute moment and i really like it,,,

it again makes me think that alilloyd as a ship has soooo much potential. it could be so so good,,, this moment especially helps give it a little ground to stand on,,, i just wish there was a stronger foundation,,, it could be even greater,,, ohhh,,,, maybe in future eps who knows? we'll have to wait and see,,,

also hi artanis!! this line from her caught my eye i wanted to bring it up

im willing to bet that this belief is also one that was sourced from credos/jang-cheol, just like the rock paper scissors game and just the farming/pacifism schtick as a whole. it probably played a part in how he had to convince the demons to follow him in the first place,,,

this could also indicate that living honestly and working to earn is a principle that jang-cheol followed in korea, and he decided that he would stick with it when he became credos. alternatively, he had the complete opposite principle (he was a gamer after all, with a max level character,,, could imply that he spent all his time on the game) but when he got transmigrated, he realized that he had another shot at making a living honestly and decided to commit to that. there isn't really enough to make a solid conclusion on how jang-cheol lived, but this is an interesting indicator and i think it's worth a bookmark! i hope the prequel gets a manhwa so i can read it,,, manifesting,,,

oh also the railroad! yay!! y'know idk if this is quite the preservation of nature i had thought they would do LOL this,,, could be considered manipulating the ecosystem too much,,, but also i am not a biologist! so i wouldn't know! it looks nature-preserved so i'll take it!

seems like the demons won't be too far from home too, since they'll probably be the ones employed to run the railroad tracks once it's complete. lloyd essentially gave them jobs! yahoo!

i will be honest the glare is pretty uh. harsh but i dont mind at all bc YAYYY YAYYY NICE MOMENT WITH LLOYD YAHOO YAHOO. he seems and looks super tired here too,,, one of the panels before this was his heart freezing up again and alicia asked if they should stop bc of his heart, but he refuses,,, ghhh,,, stupid fucking martyr i love you stop doing that though please take a break

this panel is again another alicia pov panel and i really really like it,,, he's so Sun character to me idk how to explain that (javier is Moon to me). maybe ill break that down in a different post another time but yeah,,, yeah,,, sun and moon,,, yeah,,,,,,, also alicia is Comet. one day ill elaborate

lloyd got like a jump ability and according to my mutuals thats not in the novel? so im curious as to what thats for,,, lloyd says it already but yeah he's a swordmaster now and has tons of other skills and summons too. what would a super jump be useful for,,,? so far, most if not all of his skills have had some use in the story,,, skills that are deliberately brought up like this are always used eventually. what in the world will a jump skill do??? what kind of situation will lloyd find himself in?? is this not almost over??? i'm so curious,,,

i genuinely had a lot of fun reading this ep the moments were all so fun and i'm very glad that things are looking up for them,,,!!! this does also worry me that there's going to be one more final obstacle before we actually get their good ending. bc now that i think abt it, getting the eye of summer does save lloyd but it doesn't stop fate,,, so,,, there might be more trouble ahead. but i'm not gonna worry about that right now!!! i'm coping!!! i'm coping.

Opinions on copycat heroes? As in people that take up abandoned mantles.

I always found facinating how you can take over the name of someone you have never met, but my buddie thinks is kind of morbid, specially when the hero is dead.

I think "copycat heroes" is the wrong nomenclature in this case, unless we're talking about something specific. I'll give you a broader example of the kind that I'm mostly sure you're talking about and then a second example of the more...strict case.

Now, what I THINK you mean when you say "copycat" in this case are heroes who take names that have previously been used by others without having a direct relationship to that hero. Especially if said hero has passed on. Without some kind of acknowledgement from the original hero to pass on their names. Excuse me for a semi-repeated example but I just answered another ask on this heroic legacy so it's on my mind.

This Starman is a famous and beloved hero in his hometown of Tucson, Arizona and the surrounding southwest. As far as we are publically aware he has no relation to the Knight family or either of the previous aliens who held the title in the interregnum between Ted Knight's retirement and Jack Knight's temporary assumption of the mantle.

Despite having taken this title for himself, while Ted Knight was very much living, this Starman is remembered as having bravely faced menaces like Bolt and Doctor Polaris, even stepping up to the challenge of the Dominator invasion and eventually giving his life in battle against the villainous Eclipso.

When asked about this very thing, I think Jack Knight put it best in his VERY long final interview. "I didn't know the guy personally but no one I've ever met who did has ever said an unkind word about him. I read some of the things he did, some of the fights he took, even how he went out...Connected with his family pretty deep after I found out about him too. No names you understand, even for the dead but the bottom line is that he was there when people needed him and he died with his colors on. Hell, probably a better Starman than I ever amounted to."

Now the OTHER example is much rarer and shows a facet of this part of the superhero community that I think throws things into a stark enough relief to be understood.

Nicki Jones was not the perpetrator of the crime on display here, we can lay the entirety of the blame for thist "Infinity Inc" farce at the feet of Lex Luthor and we all know it, but the example is demonstrative.

The entire effort was an affront to the good name of heroes who, living or dead, had sacrificed and struggled directly in the legacy of their JSA predecessors and names they made their own. Scooped out through a dubious buyout of the Pemberton estate (which is why its now the law that superhero names and images are not under business copyright as characters but as the good names of individuals). Lex Luthor using his money to rub the JSA's noses in it. But this "fake Jade" was a step too far, as the real Jade, Jennie-Lynn Hayden, the daughter of the original Green Lantern had recently perished in a battle during the 2nd Multiversal Crisis. Her brother, Obsidian, famously inflammatory in nature confronted her in front of the public and was only barely restrained from violence by the very curt intervention of his father. The entire enterprise would be very quickly revealed as a shit show from top to bottom and none of the "heroes" within it worth the paper their stickers and endorsements were printed on but that's neither here nor there.

The deciding factor here is intent and respect.

Superheroes do not view themselves, nor do they act as if they are copyrighted beings. There is no officially enforced code of conduct within their community. There is simply a mutual understanding that that community self enforce for the sake of the public trust and their bonds with one another. The Arizona Starman was a hero, by all accounts and in every sense. He wore the name he chose well and acted with all heroic intentions. Had he ever met a member of the Knight clan I'm sure they would have worked it out amicably over coffee and a handshake.

The Infinity Inc "project" trotted out the corpse of a woman who wasn't even a year dead as if she was the newest iPhone to replace. When confronted by the people who loved and respected Jade in life, both their intentions for that name and respect upon it were found wanting.

If you are found to be dragging someone else's name, especially the name of a departed comrade through the mud. The superhero community will not settle the matter in intellectual claims court.

The Solisian Rangers are a government agency, sure, but they're like the post office.

When you need magic, you go to a Sorcerer or a Wizard. When you need something fought? A Fighter or a Barbarian, surely. Even nature can be handled by a Druid. Ranger's aren't anybody's port of call.

And a whole agency full of them? They're better off handing out fines to campers.

Useless.

Useless until the sun goes away for months. Useless until they're only people who bothered to learn the Daylight spell. Useless until they're the only people who can grow your crops and give you light so you can see.

While the rest of the Government waited around for the sun to return, the Solisian Rangers mobilised. They were the ones travelling to the more rural areas of Solace and making sure the farmers were alright. They were the ones rescuing people who couldn't see well in the dark, setting them up with magic powered lights. Defending those who couldn't defend themselves from what lurked in the dark.

While everybody else sat on their hands and waited, the Rangers acted.

Nature. Magic. Fighting. All at once.

When the world stood by, the Rangers acted.

They would never let themselves be underestimated again.
