Lord!Jaskier and Commander!Geralt AU part 2
You can find the first part here.
A good morning
Geralt: *knocking once and coming into the young lord's room at the previusly agreed hour ready to scort Jaskier in the castle to attend his duties* "My lord, I'm here to…"
Jaskier: *standing in a sexy pose, which is completely by chance and not planned at all, in the middle of the room,only in his underwear, which is casually the pair that makes his ass look better* "Oh, I'm sorry, my dear. Is it time to go down already? I must have lost myself looking at the view. Isn't it lovely?" *turns his head towards the window, showing off his neck and arching his back a bit more.*
Geralt: *face completely neutral, keeping his eyes respectfully above the young lord's neck.* "I'll wait for my lord outside" *does a small bow keeping his eyes locked with Jaskier's, turns around and leaves.*
Jaskier: oh you're a hard one, uh? Even more fun. Let's see how long you can resist my charm.
*Horny evil bard-lord cackling noises.*
Meanwhile outside his room
Geralt *as red as a tomato* what the fuck what the fuck what the fuck.

The Amazing Devil are underrated storytellers
Like I'm sure many people did, I discovered alt-folk band The Amazing Devil through Joey Batey as a fan of The Witcher. Someone on TikTok was talking about the song Fair and how the actor who plays Jaskier (or Dandelion, depending on preference of material) from The Witcher sang it.
Instantly, I knew I had to listen to this song and I sat with it on repeat for an hour, picking through references and laughing at how pure and simple the love conveyed in those words was. It's the kind of love you dream of, where your partner completes you and life without them seems impossible. A love that goes beyond you both, as if there was no choice but to fall for one another. It's not pretentious or impossible to understand. It's universal and I fell in love with it.
Months later, I found Battle Cries, a song of overlapping whimsies. It tells the tale of two lovers ending their relationship and trying to find pieces of calmness in the uproar of their breakup, comparing it to a war not just between each other but within themselves. There a metaphors deeply woven within the lyrics and each line is magic as Joey and Madeleine sing over each other, words occasionally syncing up, representing the way they struggle to feel in tune with each other at the end of their relationship.
Battle Cries lead me to Marbles, the story of a couple where one of them is suffering from memory loss, the trials and tribulations of watching the person you love forget who they are and who you are too. It is a beautifully told story that feels so genuine, making me wonder how close to home the inspiration was. This song is an absolute guarantee at tears while also making you laugh.
Ruin came to me next, as wells as Drinking Song for the Socially Anxious and The Horrors and The Wild, three songs with such incredibly different vibes that don't just need to be listened to but thoroughly devoured.
Finally, a song I can never praise enough, Inkpot Gods. This song brings together so many ideas and images I love. Again, it is heavy on its use of metaphors but contains one of my favourite references they have ever used. The song discusses the love you can hold for another person and the lengths you will go to so you can protect them. It talks of breaking generational expectations and being there for someone when they can't defend themselves.
The best part of Inkpot Gods, however, is the Lord of the Rings reference where Madeleine sings "you might not fear a man//but to a woman by the end you'll kneel and plead". This is popularly theorised to be about Eowyn in The Return of the King and the line "I am no man" she speaks as she ends her foe's life, a show of her strength not despite of her gender. Easily the best line of the trilogy to me, and hearing it in song form cements this, following it with "I'm more than what my mum told me", breaking this tradition what what a woman can or should be.
While Joey Batey was the draw to The Amazing Devil's music for me, Madeleine has kept me there, she has such a beautiful voice and her and Joey together have made some stunning music that I will always love. They tell these fantastic stories within a few minutes, creating characters worthy of epic tales and narratives so deep and complex it leaves you thinking for long after.

✨Round 4: Match 6✨
Tumblr media
Tom Bombadil Propaganda:
he literally just sings a little song and resists the power of all evil <3
Jaskier/Dandelion Propaganda:
you know the answer
He sings, he's overly dramatic and he's fruity af
literally a bard and 💅
Jaskier says he was made to make music, to put himself in others' shoes to write epic tales of what it feels to live and love. He is an extravagant diva with fabulous dress sense, a sunshine personality and plenty of wit. His love of the witcher, Geralt of Rivia, and his "lovely bottom" is enough to make Jaskier go down in history.
Everything about him, his songs, his voice, his jokes, his rings and necklaces, clothes, his mere presence!!!!!
he travels around and plays the lute and fucks everyone that looks at him and wears outrageous outfits
canonically bi! <3
More propaganda!

Matchup Requests - 11/30/24
Anon;
Hi! I am sorry that I got to this so late, but I hop you can forgive me!
And do not worry, you gave the right amount of info, and it wasn't too long! :) <3 I really hope you like your matchups!
{Trying a different layout}
Romantic Matchup; Lord Of The Rings, The Hobbit, Marvel, and The Witcher
~~~
The Lord Of The Ring;
Pippin Took -
Tumblr media
You met good ol' Pippin in Rivendell.
It was impossible to not notice his infectious energy and enthusiasm.
You also thought, that not only was he physically cute, but his personality was the more you spent with him in Rivendell before the meeting, and before the Fellowship was formed.
He was endearing, to say the least.
He was also quite excited and quite happy when he was able to join the Fellowship, since not only could he help Frodo, but you were also a part of the team.
Lord Elron himself wanted you to join since you were a rather skilled fighter.
In the beginning, Pippin sticks to you like glue, when he's not with Merry, and retells you the stories of his and Merry's antics, like shooting off fireworks and stealing food from Farmer Maggot.
You can't help but laugh, Pip was really something.
Your friendship starts with a lot of teasing and harmless jokes. Pippin might challenge you to a race or offer you some outrageous “wisdom” that sounds more like the ramblings of a hobbit who’s been drinking a bit too much ale. But sometimes, when the times suit him, Pipping will actually say something wise.
More often than not, he is incredibly good at reassuring you when needed and wanted.
As the two of you spend more time together, Pippin starts to realize there’s something deeper than just friendship. At least on his end.
He is also quite oblivious at times.
Maybe it's the way you both laugh at the same silly things or the way you give him that cute knowing look.
It's subtle at first, but he’s the type to be a little slow to recognize when he’s falling for someone.
It just kind of hits hit randomly.
You might notice Pippin becoming more protective of you in little ways, like sharing his food with you or making sure you're okay after a particularly intense battle with orcs or trolls.
Pippin loves to surprise you with little treasures he finds during the journey; a small bundle of wildflowers, or a small shiny rock that he thinks is beautiful.
You also don't know this, but these are all things Hobbits do to initiate courtship.
He's not hurt at all that you don't know, of course you don't know. He never told you, and he doubted either Frodo, Sam, or Merry did. Maybe Merry, but still.
Nonetheless, he loved giving you things that reminded him of you.
He knew that someday he was going to tell you how he felt.
Continuing on, he loves to make you laugh, keeping you entertained.
During camp, when you have night watch, Pippin stays up a bit with you, even though you tell him to go to bed and get some rest.
But, you both end up chatting about life or your favorite foods or what you’d do if you could live anywhere in the world. Cue, simple things.
Pippin will absolutely dedicate his best and most endearing songs to you when he gets the courage to sing for you. His voice might waver a bit, but he sings from the heart. (He has your heart in that moment.)
When he and Merry get taken, you are heartbroken and devastated. You do your best to try and go after them before the Uruk-Hai leaves, but you are no match for all of them.
It is only when you reach Isengard that you can feel the air escape your lungs. Seeing Pippin - and Merry - eating merrily, smoking on their pipes, you couldn't stop yourself from running over to him and taking him into your arms.
You bombarded him with questions, making sure he was alright. Totally missing how bright red his cheeks were.
There was a moment when he was going to tell you, but then Gandalf whisked him away to Gondor. You only reunited with him after the end of the Ring and at Gondor.
You found yourself on the battlefield - after not finding Pippin in Minas Tirith - finding him holding Merry near the giant corpse of one of the Oliphaunts.
Running to his side, you saw how tired both of them were, seeing that Merry was injured in some way. Quickly and carefully, you took Merry into your arms, and both you and Pippin made your way inside Minas Tirith.
You sat with Pippin as Merry was being healed, sitting pretty close to each other.
"Are you alright?" Pippin suddenly asked, looking up at you.
"Yes, you do not have to worry, Pip."
"I just… I don't know what I'd do if something were to happen to you."
"Pip?"
"Yes?"
"Have I told you how handsome you look in that uniform?"
It was then that he confessed, and it was then that he asked if he could have the honor of courting you.
In Rivendell, it was there that Pippin asked if you wanted to stay with him in the Shire. You said yes.
Living at the Shire, when you're feeling down if ever, Pippin’s natural cheerfulness will come to the rescue. He’ll make sure you’re laughing again.
You’d also introduce him to new music. Pippin loves all things that make him feel alive, and you could teach him some fun songs, that would have him jumping up and down and giggling.
You’d always have Pippin’s back, whether that’s giving him advice when he feels uncertain or being his moral support when the weight of the world starts to feel too heavy.
~~~
The Hobbit;
Bilbo Baggins -
Tumblr media
You lived in the Shire, already being Bilbo's close friend; you weren't like his overbearing family.
You had met at the market when he was looking for flower seeds to plant in his garden, and you were searching for your own seeds to plant as well.
You two quickly bond over your shared curiosity for the world around you. While Bilbo’s cautious nature is at odds with your adventurous spirit, you respect his quieter, thoughtful demeanor and begin to realize how deeply kind and loyal he is.
Friendship with Bilbo is a mix of quiet moments and lighthearted discussions about the world, your love for history, and everything that makes life fascinating.
Bilbo is slow to realize his feelings, as he’s not someone who wears his heart on his sleeve. He’s much more at home with a book in his hand or a cup of tea, but over time, he’ll start to notice how much more relaxed and happy he feels when you're around.
He'd start thinking, 'I wonder what she's doing right now,' or 'She'd really like this recipe.'
He may not understand it right away, but you’ll start to notice him doing little things for you subconsciously, like keeping your favorite snacks in stock in his pantry or offering you extra blankets during chilly nights when you come over to read and drink tea.
What you do notice, is the way he looks at you, and the warmth in his voice when he says your name.
You two would find the beauty in the small things. Long, quiet walks in the woods, discussing the wonders of nature or the latest book you’re reading.
You were actually quite happy when Bilbo asked if you would like to go on a walk with him - hobbit courting gestures.
For some reason, deep down, you had always known that Bilbo liked you the same way you liked him.
He's not the most outwardly with romance, but Bilbo will never turn down the chance to cook you a meal, give you a bouquet of your favorite flowers, or even just spending a night with you in his arms, both of you reading books in front of the fire.
Bilbo is always there if you need someone to talk to. Just so you know. He doesn't care if you knock on his door and wake him up in the early morning before the sun comes up, he is there for you o matter what.
You need advice, he is there for you too.
Normally, Bilbo is not the life of the party, he loves to read in his chair and drink tea before bed. But, for you, he'd go to a few parties, and maybe let you drag him on the dance floor to dance. And maybe he'd have a good time. He's having a great time.
On a quiet evening, when Bilbo is feeling nostalgic or just a little tired, you offer to read him a passage from one of his favorite old books. The calm, comforting voice brings him peace, and he enjoys hearing the words he’s read a hundred times from someone else's perspective.
"Ah, you make it sound so much more magical than when I read it."
~~~
Marvel;
Carol Danvers -
Tumblr media
You met Carol during what was supposed to be a solo mission for you.
There was a Hydra facility in the middle of a secluded forest in Canada that was holding mutants to run experiments on.
And since you were an incredibly great fighter, and had a pretty powerful mutation yourself, you were sent off to save the three documented people who were kidnapped by Hydra.
The job seemed simple: get in, save the mutants, and get out. But when you arrived, the facility somehow knew you were coming, and security systems went haywire.
Or maybe it was just a regular security system that you thought you shut off...
Didn't you shut that off?
You swore you did.
Well, you needed backup, and that's when you met Carol.
Your hero.
Once she appeared, you both fought side by side, almost instantly knocking out the Hydra agents.
She is impressed by you, to say the least.
You began to have more missions with her.
When you're working with each other, there is a noticeable chemistry.
The two of you bond over shared experiences of being outsiders, with Carol’s history as a soldier and your own past both shaping how you view the world.
She respects people who aren’t afraid to speak their minds and stand their ground. Carol sees a bit of her own rebellious spirit in you.
Carol values trust, and once she knows she can trust you, she’s fiercely loyal.
While Carol can be tough and independent, she always respects your space and boundaries, especially after learning that you value your alone time and personal space.
Carol loves that you’re one of the few people who doesn’t treat her like a hero 24/7. It's nice, the recognition, but it's also nice to be just a regular person.
When she’s feeling down, she knows you’ll be there for her, ready to help her unwind, whether it’s sharing your favorite drink or just going for a walk.
She is always down for an adventure! Road trip!
Her realization of her growing feelings for you happens pretty quickly. You had taken her to a party at a club, pulling her onto the dance floor.
Seeing you so happy, dancing without a care in the world, belting out the wrong lyrics; it was in slow-motion, the lights hitting you just right...
She also starts noticing the little things you do - like the way you check in on her after a mission, or how you laugh at her corny jokes even when no one else does.
She won’t rush things because she understands the need for patience.
Carol isn’t always the most openly affectionate, but when you’re alone, she’s soft. A gentle hand on the small of your back or a fleeting kiss on your forehead shows her care more than words.
"I’m not great with words, but I know I want you in my life."
The kiss happens after a long battle, when the adrenaline finally fades, leaving only the quiet relief of being alive.
Carol pulls you close, her hand cupping your face gently, her eyes looking over you and making sure you are alright.
You catch her by surprise when you kiss her; the kiss is warm and soft but with an intensity that says more than words ever could.
When you both pull away, your foreheads rest against each other.
Carol loves surprising you with thoughtful gestures - whether it's a quiet night at her place with dinner or surprising you with your favorite vegan dessert because she remembers what you like.
If you ever have a rough day or need time to yourself, Carol gives you space but always makes sure to check-in.
Carol has your back, no questions asked. If you're ever in trouble, she’ll come running, and she’s not afraid to get her hands dirty to make sure you’re safe.
You never have to worry about being judged around Carol. She gets that you’ve both had your fair share of tough experiences and doesn’t hold anything against you. Carol often compliments you on your chosen piercings for the day, or the type of perfume you're wearing.
She is also huge into gifts and loves getting you 80s movies, horror books, or anything else you like.
Another thing, she loves to listen to you talk about anything history. She could listen to you for hours if you let her.
You’d support her just as much as she supports you, whether it’s by getting her favorite food after a mission or just being there to listen when she’s had a bad day.
On quieter nights, you’d find yourselves sitting together, either just talking or reading quietly in each other’s company, enjoying the rare moments of peace.
The Witcher;
Jaskier -
Tumblr media
You met Jaskier during one of his many escapades with Geralt.
He was in the middle of one of his wild performances when you happened to stumble into the tavern.
The first thing that caught your attention was his passion. He was ridiculously charming in a way you couldn’t ignore.
You caught his eyes as well.
He spotted you as you walked in, and as you found a sit at a table.
Singing his heart out, he sauntered over, giving you his full attention, making it seem like he was only singing for you and only you.
At the end of his song, it took him a moment before he snapped his gaze away from you.
It wasn't long until he decided to join you at your table, and after a bit of conversation, you began to really enjoy his presence.
Jaskier has a way of making people feel comfortable, and with you, it didn’t take long for you to become fast friends.
And it took a bit for you and Jaskier to convince Geralt to let you join them, but after Geralt saw you fight a freaking Striga, seeing your fighting skills, he let you join begrudgingly.
You’re always there to listen when he’s complaining about Geralt. Giving him a shoulder.
You and Jaskier share an unbreakable bond of teasing, playful banter, and mutual respect. He’s one to joke around with you for hours, and you never shy away from giving it back. He loves your quick wit.
Whether you’re helping him write a new song or just trying to keep him out of trouble, Jaskier enjoys having you around.
You two are constantly getting into mischief together, and even though you sometimes find yourself rolling your eyes at his antics, you secretly love it.
At first, Jaskier didn’t realize how much his feelings for you were growing. It started with shared glances, small touches, and moments of silence where he just couldn’t seem to stop thinking about you.
Then he started writing songs about you...
Jaskier is not shy when it comes to making romantic gestures. As said, songs for you, poetry, and obviously singing for you whenever you wish.
When he finally confesses, it’s as overblown as expected. He stands there, looking at you with a combination of nervousness and excitement.
“It is with the utmost sincerity… That I have fallen for you. Surely, you can see how this bard’s heart beats only for you?”
Jaskier often serenades you, whether it’s in the middle of a crowded tavern or just the two of you by a campfire. He loves seeing the way your face lights up when he sings, even if the song is a bit dramatic.
Expect constant playful nicknames and jokes, but they’re always laced with affection. He’s a romantic at heart, even if it’s wrapped in humor.
Jaskier is genuinely interested in your passions, even if they’re different from his own. If you love history or literature, he’ll ask you questions, trying to understand what makes those things so fascinating. He’ll even try to learn some of your interests just to make you happy.
He is also incredibly interested in your tattoos!
When things get difficult, Jaskier will do small, sweet things for you, like fixing you a hot drink after a long day or giving you a blanket when you're cold.
growing up in a manor house or whatever means that jaskier knows where all the secret/servants’ passages are, how to pick locks, schedules, etc. i feel like this could be very important and entertaining information should him and geralt need it. also it would be so funny to see geralt so surprised that jaskier knows and can put to use so many things like that
This is another Doctor Who - Witcher crossover I’ve got the first chapter done on. This takes place in the same multiverse as my other Doctor Who fic sideways parenthood only 300 years later. You don’t have to have read it but it would help explain who Jaskier is more. He’s one of Rose and Ten’s twin boys who has accidentally got stuck in the Witcher universe and has basically been waiting for three decades for someone in his family to answer a distress call but the TARDIS got herself mixed up and brought Ten there at the wrong point of the timeline.
Forby all of that it’s basically wrote as a Doctor Who story. People have been going missing with mysterious lights being seen in the area. Geralt picks up a contract to go investigate followed by his loyal bard companion who is acting shifty.
Sideways Parenthood
The evening sun cast long shadows across the cobblestone streets as Geralt of Rivia and Jaskier entered the quaint village. The last rays of sunlight glinted off the Witcher's medallion as it swayed with each step. Murmurs of ‘Witcher’ echoed from villagers who noticed the white-haired traveler, while others whispered about the peculiar bard with him.
Jaskier, ever the observer, glanced around, noting the nervous chatter and occasional fearful looks from the locals. "Geralt," he began, his voice tinged with unease, "Have you noticed? This place… it feels off."
Geralt grunted, his gaze scanning the surroundings. "I've been in my share of strange places. But yes, something's not right."
"The lights," Jaskier continued, twirling a feathered quill between his fingers. "I've heard stories from other villages about odd lights in the sky. You know, like those elven tales? But this... feels different."
Geralt's yellow eyes narrowed as he looked up at the twilight sky. "I've been hired to investigate. But I suspect it's not just some simple spectre or creature."
Jaskier's thoughts whirled. He harboured suspicions he wasn't prepared to reveal. Despite his human appearance, Jaskier was, in fact, a Time Lord—a mere three hundred years old, young by Time Lord standards. He currently resided in a pocket universe nestled between several larger ones, all interlinked by temporal rifts. In essence, he had been cast adrift in the multiverse's vast currents. He had dispatched a distress signal to his family, but given the time-space distortions generated by the surging rift energy—locally termed as ‘chaos’—he couldn't be certain they'd receive it. His father, the Doctor, once fell prey to a world that devoured TARDISes in a similar pocket universe, making him particularly wary of such distress signals. Jaskier hoped he'd at least investigate, because if not, his mother, Rose Tyler, might very well hasten his next regeneration. Yet, there had been no sign of the Doctor or of Jaskier's siblings, his twin brother Johnny and older brother Zaiden, or even his grandfather, Narvin. The tale of Narvin's identity, tied to the Time Lords fleeing the war and temporarily becoming human, added another layer of complexity. In this intricate web of identities, Narvin had assumed the guise of Pete Tyler, Rose's father.
As the two walked towards the centre of the village, an old woman, clutching a shawl around her, approached. "Witcher! I've seen them lights! They're bad omens, they are," she croaked.
Geralt nodded, listening intently. "Where did you see them?"
She pointed to the eastern edge of the village. "Over by the woods. Just after sundown. But not just lights. Shadows, too. Moving shadows that don’t belong to any creature of this land."
Jaskier felt a chill run down his spine. "Thank you," he said, offering her a reassuring smile. "We'll look into it."
The old woman hobbled away, muttering prayers under her breath.
Jaskier leaned closer to Geralt. "Moving shadows? That doesn’t sound like any creature you've fought."
Geralt simply replied, "Every contract is a mystery until it's solved." But even he couldn't deny the growing unease.
Jaskier sighed, his gaze drifting towards the woods. Unbeknownst to Geralt, the bard's hearts raced with a mixture of fear and excitement. This was no ordinary mystery, and deep down, Jaskier wondered if he was on the brink of a reunion he hadn't expected when he followed Geralt here.
With a familiar grinding noise, the blue police box materialised at the edge of the village square. The door creaked open, and out stepped The Doctor, his brown trench coat flapping as he stretched, followed by Donna Noble, her red hair catching the last remnants of sunlight.
"Oi! Where have you brought us now, spaceman?" Donna exclaimed, looking around, a mix of curiosity and skepticism evident on her face.
The Doctor whipped out his sonic screwdriver, pointing it skyward. "Somewhere... interesting. Temporal disturbances, Donna. Time's gone a bit wibbly-wobbly."
Donna rolled her eyes. "Oh, not that phrase again. Can't you just once say, 'Donna, I've got no bloody idea what's going on'?"
The Doctor grinned cheekily. "Where would be the fun in that?"
Noticing the villagers eyeing them with a mix of curiosity and wariness, Donna leaned in and whispered, "Do they even have police boxes here? We stick out like a sore thumb!"
The Doctor, always observant, quickly noticed the subtle unease among the villagers. "Something's got them spooked," he remarked, his playful demeanour shifting to one of concern.
They began to weave through the village, the Doctor occasionally pausing to scan various objects with his sonic screwdriver, while Donna tried striking up conversations with the villagers. Most shied away, but a young lad, drawn by her vibrant hair, approached.
"You're not from here, are you?" he asked Donna.
She smirked, "What gave it away? The hair or the fabulous fashion sense?"
The boy giggled but then hesitated, "It's just... you should be careful. The lights... they've taken some of us."
Donna's smirk faded, replaced by genuine concern. "Taken? Taken where?"
Before the boy could respond, The Doctor rejoined Donna, having overheard the conversation. "What lights?" he pressed, kneeling to the boy's level.
The boy pointed eastward, "Over there. Near the woods. They dance and shimmer, then... someone's gone."
The Doctor's face darkened, and he stood, sharing a serious glance with Donna. "We need to find out what's happening."
Donna nodded in agreement, her usual feisty demeanour replaced with determination. "Let's do it. But, Doctor... no running off without me this time, alright?"
He offered her a reassuring smile, "Promise."
With that, the iconic duo made their way towards the eastern edge of the village, armed with nothing but their wit, determination, and a sonic screwdriver. Little did they know, their paths would soon cross with two other unexpected travellers.
The village tavern, bathed in the soft glow of candlelight, was a cacophony of sounds, from the strumming of a lute in the corner to the muffled conversations of villagers trying to drown their fears in ale. The atmosphere was dense, an almost palpable sense of unease hanging in the air.
Jaskier, ever the performer, tried to lift spirits with a lighthearted tune. His fingers danced across his lute as he sang, his voice soaring and filling the room. Despite his efforts, though, the applause was lukewarm. He took a seat at the bar, feeling unusually discouraged.
Donna, noticing the skilled bard, approached, her drink in hand. "That was lovely," she remarked, genuinely impressed. "Though I don't think I've ever seen an audience less responsive."
Jaskier chuckled, "You'd think they'd never seen a bard before. But thank you, kind lady."
Donna grinned, "Kind? That's a first. I'm Donna."
"Jaskier," he replied, raising his drink in a toast. Their eyes met briefly, a shared understanding passing between them. Both felt out of place, both sensed the tension in the air.
Donna leaned in, her voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper. "You know something, don't you? About the lights?"
Jaskier hesitated, struggling to keep his expression neutral. "Why do you ask?"
She shrugged, "Just a hunch. And my mate, The Doctor, he's got this... knack for finding trouble. Or maybe it's the other way around."
At the mention of ‘The Doctor’, Jaskier's hearts skipped a beat, memories flooding back. But he masked his surprise quickly. "Ah, physicians. Always meddling, aren't they?"
Donna smirked, catching his attempt at evasion. "Oh, he's not that kind of doctor. Let's just say he's... unique. And I've got a feeling you're more than just a bard."
Jaskier laughed nervously, "You're quite the observer, Donna. But some stories... they're better left unsung.”
The fact that Donna was here meant this was the wrong part of his father’s timeline. Yes he and his twin brother had been born, but the Doctor didn’t know that yet. This was between Bad Wolf Bay where his mother chickened out and lied about being pregnant and the Dalek Crucible.
He'd always heard about the running joke concerning his Aunt Donna's uncanny ability to miss every alien invasion. That changed, however, when she encountered the Doctor; from that point on, her observational skills became almost unsettlingly sharp. Jaskier was deeply thankful for his perception filter, which prevented others from noting anything out of the ordinary about him—be it an additional heartbeat or his unchanged appearance over three decades. He often pondered its effectiveness on Geralt, but given that the Witcher never remarked on any of Jaskier's anomalies, he assumed it was doing its job. Then again, Geralt had the uncanny skill of observing minute details for years, perhaps even decades, without ever voicing his observations, particularly the glaring ones.
The moment the Doctor entered the tavern, Jaskier's hearts stuttered. It required all the self-control he possessed—which, truth be told, wasn't substantial in this regeneration—to maintain his shield and resist reaching out to the familiar solace of his father's telepathic touch. He'd forgotten how much his original form, before his first regeneration, had resembled his father’s tenth. That initial transformation had been prompted by his TARDIS malfunctioning upon his tumultuous arrival in this pocket universe.
Before Donna could rope him into conversation with the doctor Jaskier got up and started to play. He played a lot of his usual songs but just to make his father twitch instead of ‘white wolf’ he’d sing ‘bad wolf’ but only some of the time. Then he went into another song he wrote for his parents a long time ago.
Well I woke up today,
And the world was a restless place;
It could have been that way for me...
And I wandered around,
And I thought of your face;
That Christmas looking back at me...
I wish today was just like every other day,
'Cause today has been the best day -
Everything I ever dreamed!
And I started to walk,
Pretty soon I will run;
And I'll come running back to you...
'Cause I followed my star,
And that's what you are;
I've had a merry time with you...
I wish today was just like every other day,
'Cause today has been the best day -
Everything I ever dreamed!
So have a good life,
Do it for me -
Make me so proud,
Like you want me to be;
Where ever you are,
I'm thinking of you, oceans apart
I want you to know...
Well I woke up today, and you're on the other side,
Our time will never come again;
But if you can still dream,
Close your eyes it will seem,
That you can see me now and then...
I wish today was just like every other day,
'Cause today has been the best day -
Everything I ever dreamed!
I wish today was just like every other day,
'Cause today has been the best day -
Everything I ever dreamed!
Jaskier took another break, feeling the crowd in the tavern wasn’t quite warming up to his music. He was also too anxious to use his empathic abilities to lift their spirits.
Suddenly, he was approached in a rather confrontational manner.
"Who are you?!" demanded the Doctor.
"It's Jaskier, a bard and a graduate in the seven liberal arts from Oxenfurt," Jaskier responded with a hint of pride.
"You kept singing 'bad wolf'," the Doctor persisted, his brow furrowed in suspicion.
"I assure you, Doctor, my song was about the 'white wolf', not 'bad wolf'. I am, after all, the personal bard to Geralt of Rivia. I've been chronicling his adventures in song for the past two decades. Just ask anyone," Jaskier said, trying to keep his composure.
"Doctor," Donna interjected softly, trying to defuse the situation, "give it a rest."
"He's hiding something, Donna! You said it yourself. And that last song... I recognise it. It topped the charts during Christmas in 2007 when I was at the Powell Estate in London."
Jaskier's eyes widened, "Truly? A number one hit? Oh, what a delightful surprise!" He then realised he said too much.
“How do you know of Christmas? This isn't Earth, and the technology here is hardly Earth-compatible,” the Doctor pointed out triumphantly.
Caught off guard, Jaskier blurted, "Oi, is that a flubble over there?"
To Jaskier's astonishment, the mention of the tiny Gallifreyan rodent usually kept as pets actually distracted the Doctor. He seized the moment and bolted. Donna, however, was right on his heels. Just as she was about to grab him at the edge of the woods, they were engulfed in a swirl of lights and vanished, leaving the Doctor and Geralt, who had just arrived due to the ruckus, staring in shock and confusion.
